Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

[X] The river villages.
[X] The front line.

I don't mind either of these, but would prefer the front line. Now is a good chance to get a look at what real combat against the barbarians looks like before the Barbarian Invasion Arc begins in ernest.

@Briefvoice So, you might say I'm voting to be responsible by preparing early. :V

[X] The river villages.

Mostly because watching Zhengui be upset over not being fast enough in our fights is sad. Static defense is just what he needs for a pick-me-up.

Logically speaking, the river villages should be the better option between these two. With the information we have, it's hard to believe that Ling Qi could help more in the front line than in the villages. With that said, I really do think the front line has the potential to be more narratively interesting, and I'd like to see Guan Zhi in action more. We should be careful not to inflate our expectations based on what happened in our last scouting mission though.

[X] The front line.

Easier to cut loose and stretch ourselves when we and our spirits don't have to worry about squishy mortals being caught in the crossfire.

Being a messenger seems like it would see us running around telling people what awesome things other people who are not us are doing. Meanwhile being on the front lines guarantee us some of that action but we must be careful in not reaching beyond our means. Protecting the river villages seems like it would let us fight of the inevitable barbarian incursion where we have the best opportunity to distinguish ourselves on our own. No one cares about the messenger when all is said and done but exceeding expectations by pushing ourselves where there's most danger or being the first to take on entire raiding parties on our own not only increases our standing, it pushes us as a cultivator. Both of them have the added benefits of letting Ling Qi see the realities of war more closely, something that could develop her own sense of duty and purpose which would be interesting.

[X] The river villages

We're obviously going to see action and excitement no matter what. I don't think any of these options are "safe" ... there's just less of chance that LQ will die. It says explicitly that there's lethal danger in the front lines option. And Yrsillar has confirmed that there have been actual times where LQ could've died. The chances of LQ rolling that badly r higher with something that could actually threaten a Cyan. And even if the chances are small, she could still get injured badly enough to delay her cultivation. Considering how much of a tight schedule we have, I'd think that outcome would be disappointing for a lot of people...for CRX and Shenhua...for voters like myself...
Also we're totally not going to miss out on the major plothooks. Yrsillar learned from the last training mission, don't put the major plothook in only one option bc voters might not choose that option. He's not going to make the same mistake twice. If there's something he really wants LQ to experience, he'll make sure it happens to some degree. Will stakes be a little less high? Yes but it's not exactly going to be boring and safe either. This isn't like the choice to not follow the barbarian was passing up on adventure completely.
And lastly, people were just saying last night on Discord that Hanyi ZG may not be able to keep up with LQ. Can we maybe give our spirits some time to shine then? It was established that poor ZG hasn't been feeling very useful. It's possible he can sense he's falling behind. It's important to give our spirits some chances to grow.

Because I'm tired of always playing it safe and taking "calculated risks", I want to have some fun and take actual risks and I don't want to miss out on any potential plot threads like we did with the barbarians last time we scouted.

Plus I want to see a Cyan level Cultivator kick ass and take names just so Ling Qi can get MOTIVATED!
Same exactly. Last Operation was played safe, and I was disappointed by how it turned out. Its time to dig in heels and be the best Ling Qi we can.

Everythings felt safe and ponderous lately. Safe conflicts. Safe rewards.
We're never going to catch the Princesses if we play it safe all the time.

Yeah exactly. Whereas on the frontlines, we'd be outshone by our senior commander. Depending on how fierce the opposition is, we might end up even being dead weight in need of protecting. While I don't think it's likely, it's worth noting that LQ won't be as useful as she would be at the villages.

Her winged mantle had been traded for a thicker cloak that covered her shoulders and chest, and hung down almost to her feet, with a high fur trimmed collar that brushed her chin.
"almost" to her feet ? Are we seeing ankles here ? scandalous ! :eyeroll:

She did like the sleek black calf skin boots that she had picked out though, even if she was less fond of the fact that they were visible beneath the raised hems.
Oh. Good, she's still decent!

I doubt we'd be dead weight, it's likely that the front has our Sect mates like Xiulan or Zhen Hu. We'd just join the soldier branch over the scouts. I agree that Villages are probably our best bet if we want to do the most good but after last time I think we need to show risk taking and throw ourselves where the fire's hot without being reckless.

@yrsillar can you explain a bit about the frontline option? It's unclear what LQ thinks she will be doing there and why it'll be marginally useful compared to an early Cyan Guan Zhi going solo.

EDIT: to clarify, it's not clear if the option exists because LQ is overcompensating and making bad decisions due to low war skill or something, or if this is intended as a legitimate/tactically reasonable high risk/high reward option. Somewhat similar to the "follow barbarians" vote.

Can we for once stop being "responsible" and "safe"? This is supposed to be a story, a story where we don't face any challenges or get in over our head is just plain boring.

We always do the same quester thing of turtling until we're too strong to lose to our current challenge or avoid anything that could remotely risk us not winning and it's getting stale.

We don't even have any actual cool challenges anymore because people would rather advance a tiny bit every month and be guaranteed to meet our target instead of aiming high for someone and taking part in a cool kungfu music duel so they get skipped over.

If being with the commander on the frontlines where the fighting is most deadly was an actual option for the likes of Shen Hi and Gu Xulian, then we would've heard it offered as an actual option. If we did frontlines where our boss is, it'll be going above and beyond the risk most people at our level could handle. Unless Yrsillar explicitly says otherwise, I'm absolutely confident that gu Xulian and Shen Hu will not be there.

..I guess maybe u didn't read what I said earlier about none of the options being "safe." There's been a ton of foreshadowing and hints that the barbarian threat is real and shit is going hit the fan. This is obviously not going to be a run of the mill scouting mission. It'll be the encounter we should've had last time but probably with extra excitement to make up for the mistake. Yrsillar has seen us complaining how it's been slow. This is going to be different and far more exciting no matter what we choose

To say nothing of important issues like: there are a limited number of Greens, and it's really important to have them around to cover the actual villages and areas that need to be defended. What are the other scout officers here? How much ground are we all having to cover? These are important factors.
