Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Hmm, I feel like the logical way for CDP's scrying to evolve would be oracle pool. Yrs rolls dice periodically to give us visions of possible futures that may be useful for us to attempt to follow up on. Or may be actively counterproductive in the time honored fashion of prophecies!

And in the meanwhile, Renxiang could ask us for guidance and we could stroke our chin in a sagelike fashion and say things like "always in motion the future is".

[X] No, she did not want to use her friend as a crutch or a shield.

I assume she can still come if she herself wants to.

[X] Convince Li Suyin to come along. It would ease things along a good deal.

Regarding the two perception successor arts, personally I'm tending towards precog. I've seen some people mention that they would like to have Roaming to keep an eye on our family and keep them safe, but not only does that evoke some feeling of Shenhua's tyrannical control in how we would keep constant surveillance on our loved ones, but depending on distance may not even help.

I would prefer us being able to predict when our family is in danger and work to prevent that situation from ever happening.

Plus, you know, precog is cool.

Now as for social arts:

Playful Muse's Rapport
The children of the Dreaming Moon, are endless in number, variation and curiosity. Playful and carefree, unafraid and unconcerned with consequence, many dismiss these creatures of dream as an ephemeral annoyance, the companions of feckless hedonists and unserious artisans. However, there are many lessons to learn from the children of dream, the playful nature of these muses belies their utmost honesty of intent, for no muse has any reason to lie or trick, and few beings are more capable of conveying their thoughts more clearly than a creature whose whole being is such.

Moonless Saboteur's Smile
Each momentous shift in court, each great change in the status quo arises from ten thousand lesser actions, each innocuous on their own. The spirits of the shadowed, hidden moon know this better than any mortal. Seeking no glory, they arrange matters to the benefit of those mortals which have caught their fancy. Long did the courts of the Weilu prosper with the hidden work of theses spirits, and swift did their order crumble in their absence.

I absolutely love both of these and depending on the specific lessons would be quite happy to have them both slot in our domain. Not sure how they would fit in with our training schedule, we probably want one of them just so we have a social art, but if we don't manage to master both of them before we leave the sect that would be a real shame.

I recall some people arguing that the keyword choices would help to get arts specifically suited to the way LQ prefers doing things when not channelling Bai, and I think that's gone really well. Open and sincere but also cunning and immune to your petty plots. If we do end up in a social/political role at court then a combination of these two is exactly the style I would like LQ to use.

Related to this and the reason I would be so happy to have them slotted (insights pending), this is also the style I would like us to use when managing the greater clan in a handful of centuries when it's more than our immediate family. That is, this is how I would like us to handle our house and home.

As i mentioned earlier, Playful Muse's Rapport and Moonless Saboteur's Smile, are more or less perfect to how i want Ling Qi to approach social activities.

We are an outsider, we always will be, and i think we always should be to some degree.
Leave others to decieve, lie, and offer smiles that hide daggers.
We will be so honest and sincere we will downright weaponize it.
In some ways that may be the most unexpected and mysterious thing we can do, just be sincere. they will never see it coming.

But going at others with honesty is not enough, we will need to see others coming at us through deceit.
So with these arts we can also see other people plotting against us, and know how to make their plots come down around them.
Potentially in humiliating and hilarious fashion.

I am going to go against the grain and say that the two social arts we focus on should be Moonless Saboteur's Smile and Melodies of the Spirit Seekers.
  • One Art to deal with Spirits, one art to deal with humans
  • Both arts help our allies
  • Both arts use the same meridians and can easily be hotswapped, and its very clear which one we need at any given time
  • They have the very cool combined abbreviation of MSS2
I mean, really, one of Ling Qi's biggest things is talking to Spirits. It's the source of so much of her fun adventures and awesome prizes. Can we really have two Arts for talking to humans and zero for talking to Spirits? Is Ling Qi that domesticated now?

I would love to get MoSS, but my problem with MSS is that it doesn't actually help Ling Qi present a better face to people. PMR and MSI both help Ling Qi to talk to people, and PMR specifically does it in a way that feels very close to Ling Qi. I'd prefer to stick with PMR and HDW until after the tournament, and then pick up MSS and MoSS afterwards when we have a bit of breathing room and can explore the sect more.

Edit: Gah the acronyms

Personally i think MSS is better.
The reactive offense sabotage has going, with the ally buff in misdirection, seem more useful to me.
Also sabotage feels like sucha Grinning Moon move that i can't help but want it.

tbh that's what I thought too until I noticed this
The spirits of the shadowed, hidden moon know this better than any mortal.
which made me shine my eyes on it even more

I like the idea of Art swapping MSS and MotSS but perhaps we should train them at a later date. PMR seems like it would be better for our immediate circumstance, the biggest plot against us is that no one likes us and PMR is the Art good for charming people while remaining safe. Later we can have PMR slotted permanently and once we've decreased the Meridian count add MSS and MotSS as exchangeable additions but for the immediate term I think we should rush fix our patchwork reputation before spending the next few months on the Foundation stage and its new generation of combat Arts before we train up to four of these new mostly noncombat Arts.
