Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
This should be the art whose successors let Ling Qi keep a literal eye on everyone should loves, so. I like this art the best.

[] Convince Li Suyin to come along. It would ease things along a good deal.
Pros:
— Multiple (friendly!) people to bounce off of opens up more conversational options
— Suyin and Bao Qiang together means more opportunities to have Bao shower her with favor
— Suyin needs to get out of her workshop more (most compelling, in my opinion)

[] No, she did not want to use her friend as a crutch or a shield.
Pros:
— Ling Qi and Bao Qiang alone together let's Ling Qi see more of his character, how he treats people when he's alone-ish and she's without friends (not the best circumstances for real interrogation, but acceptable...)
— More intimate outing allows Ling Qi to poke at him more than if she needs to think also about Suyin's desires and comfort
— Less people to split the loot

In light of further consideration of my update. I have decided that the previous vote was generally kind of pointless, given narrative progression, the end of the update has been edited, and the choice changed as follows.

Ling Qi considered, between her cultivation, her family, and her other obligations, her time was limited. Had she been asked a week or two ago, she might have considered begging off, but given her recent resolution to improve her interactions with the rest of the nobility, it seemed foolish to refuse. However... she still was not wholly sure she liked the idea of going off alone with a man she had just met, and he had given her an opportunnity to make it a group affair...

Please vote on the new choice, the this threadmark will be left in for tallying purposes.
So does this mean that this event will no longer eat one of our socials?

Too bad we can't learn MSS just for that.

It's hard to get a read on what Suyin herself wants. It seems weird to insist on going alone when Suyin and Du Feng were invited. That does depend on how the vote is interpreted though. Does voting No mean that Suyin doesn't actually want to go, or does it mean we insist on going alone regardless of her leanings?

Also, there probably should have been another moratorium for this vote.

EDIT: I changed my mind. One-on-one interaction with Bao Qian is too valuable to pass up. I agree with picklepikkl's post below that it will be tough to get sincere interactions with or answers from Bao Qian should Li Suyin come along. Considering Ling Qi's insights and her ability to communicate better one-on-one, as previously noted by CRX, this is the better option all around. I'm confident that yrsillar can make the expression of this choice believable and not unfair to Suyin.

In particular, I am interested in this:

Though she could not really judge off one meeting, her initial impression of Bao Qian was good. However… the real purpose of all this still ate at her thoughts. She had been praised and praised, and while she was certain that Li Suyin was sincere, it was wholly possible that he was just using her friend to be able to flatter her without seemingly coming on too strong.

That was one trouble with studying social arts, it put her in the mind to scrutinize things over and over again. How much of this impression was a well arranged mask?

Removing Suyin from the equation prevents this sort of roundabout flattery and lets us get a closer read on him. Also... it is possible that there is a level of honesty that he'd be willing to have with us, and us with him, without witnesses. What's it like to be a scion of Bao? He's obviously quite talented. Why him? Why us?

I love Suyin, but we know she has a lot of insecurities wrapped up in her progress through cultivation and an idealized image of us. I think this meeting will be most productive if we can speak maximally frankly to one another.

Eh It's a missed detail so... Bao Qian is 18 Luo Zhong is 17. For reference, Ling Qi will be 16 pretty shortly.
Green 7 Soul at 18 is pretty impressive, right? On track for Cyan at 20?
If Cyan by 22 is considered prodigy level and by 20 is "Shenhua before she got on a rocket" then Luo and Bao seem awfully young for their cultivation when they aren't even heirs to their respective clans. Might want to reconsider the age or cultivation level.
Right so for anyone who wasn't a part of, or didn't see the ensuing Discord discussion I have some information to summarize for you
Yrsillar on Discord said:
He'd be fairly comprable to Yanmei which is what I was going for

well six also works for that if I fudge around with how far he is
Basically it takes a good 3 to 4 years, maybe even 5, for even a genius to move from green 7/bronze 7 to the full 4th realm
Highly talented people make it to Cyan at early to mid 20's which Bao Qian was on track for, Yrs is considering pushing his cultivation back slightly, but he's meant to be comparable to Yanmei

On the Divination Art I think I'm leaning towards Precognition because of its reactive nature in opposition to the Clairvoyance's proactive one. It's unfortunately unclear if it actually gives future sight though or acts more like omniscience in a moderately large radius. The Weilu Sages were able to use their precognition to rule their tribes so it's not limited to combat but is probably instead about for example whether we want to know every threat against us in a given location or be able to search entire areas for things or people we're looking for. Ling Qi is still very much ruled by her need to be in control of her surroundings and I think this fits her more, even though the scholar route is wonderfully diverse for our toolset.

We are getting the Spirit Ken Art. Later.

But on the Social Art side the Politics Art (MSS) initially interests me the least since it doesn't feel like Ling Qi nor what Ling Qi wants to be. The Secret Exchange (MSI) and Sincerity (PMR) Arts are what Ling Qi currently is and one interpretation of what she wants to be respectively. PMR obviously lets us act like a Cai retainer is supposed to at minimum. The next and last level of Harmony of the Dancing Wind also protects us and two others like SPI's second ability does for us alone. Add to that that PMR make close friends just as well as SPI and SPI is only really useful for doing shadier things for CRX. Also for PMR, punishing the untruthful is Cai Shenhua's call sign so it'd work perfectly as a agent of the Cai if a future tech lets us force others to be sincere. We'll just need to find some other way to remain mysterious.

Li Suyin deserves some loot as well and adventuring with someone we just meet... Wait for the third date because even Xuan Shu's quest didn't really work when it was just the two of them.

Chaperones or double date, I like either reading.

I find this art to be fantastic, and it dims the joy in my heart to know that cultivating it will have to wait for a better time
My feeling is that it would be a good idea to drop 1-2 ap into it in ~3 months. Could give good marginal returns, even if investing further wouldn't be worth it rn.

Also, on the cde front I'd argue that even if wma and scs are techically mechanically redundant in many ways, narratively the arts' themes and abilities should reinforce each other. Combat precog+super dodging is basically a match made in heaven.

No offence meant to Bao but while I'm happy to get closer to him and his clan, he isn't as interesting as Suyin and certainly not as interesting as seeing more of Suyin with her new partner.

Wait, what does noble etiquette say about proper young ladies going off alone with boys?

75% odds the "correct" thing here is to have our "handmaiden" with us so it doesn't look like there's canoodling.

He did offer, and easing herself into this with a familiar face is helpful, maybe Suyin will find more worthwhile material on this little adventure as well

I want to be able to have multiple social interactions with people at a time where possible anyway
