Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
Uhhhhhh since when did Hanyi have dark hair? She had silver in our first meeting, or is this some weird thing where she's growing to look more like Ling Qi due to the anticipated binding/adoption?

Ends justify the means, is a bit of a weird take on it for me. Lessons we get are based on what the character takes from the arts. So that would mean that LQ is a Ends justify the means person? I really cant see that.
But she was? Or rather, she didn't think about the means, focusing on the result and reward until recently
Mmm, thinking about the extremes of the philosophy is, I think, valuable given the context of being a cultivator.

That being said, we must be careful not to oversimplify. It is also important to consider weighting things. For example, the idea "beauty justifies suffering" could mean:
  • Creating a beautiful painting justifies busting your ass for a month
  • Creating a beautiful painting justifies having your toenails ripped out
  • Creating a beautiful painting justifies killing that village to create a delightful shade of crimson
These are all clearly not the same thing. Just because they can be loosely related to the same general idea doesn't mean that acceptance of that idea entails acceptance of all these courses of action.
Exactly this. A message is just a message.
We now have:
-In the Home of my dreams
-Don't lie to yourself about why you're doing this.
-Suffering is worth it for a beautiful result.
-Some things will End to make a new beginning.

Based on the leading votes.
This can currently, lead equally well to an approach of dedication and self sacrifice to achieve great works.
Or to bloody revolutions .

We'd have to look to the next one with care because I'm seeing Nationalist Revolution as the current extremist outline.

gotta admit, thought this turn would've been enough to get Physical Appraisal, but I guess it was a huge overestimation.

Are there any repercussions of us mastering a Green 2 art while we're still Bronze 1.

[X][FVM] Though a path might be hard and lonely, it has worth if you can present something of beauty to those you care for at the end.
[X][FSS] There are endings and Endings, only the very last one is final. Just as winter ends in spring, small endings are new beginnings.

*thinks*

Worth it :p

The FVM insight seems like it'll go places, and I've been waiting for seasonal insights.

I feel the first FVM is the most appropriate for an artist with an uncertain future like Ling Qi. Having a home to share with others is more important than the physical location, and I feel this option embodies this best. The second FSS is essentially how we run this quest, every arc is a new end and a new beginning up until the final arc. Since we are Ling Qi, this insight is how Ling Qi will live her life, never giving up, always finding a new beginning.

Well, seems like we got all our training goals for this turn done. We got the free virtual green stone, and maxed out both FVM and FSS without needing all of the omake points being spent on FVM, which indicates we had better than expected luck. The main question now is how will we handle Hanyi and Zeqing's issue.

[X][FSS] The end comes for all things, without exception. In accepting this, you are freed.

Call to Ending: B
Duration: Immediate
Damage: B(Special)
The final verse of the Serenade is a quiet, sad thing, lacking the furor of earlier verses. Upon Singing it, a single target which suffers from Hoarfrost Refrains cold feels a terrible pain as the chill infecting them grows to a terrible potency, and every last shred of heat flees their body. This effect ignores armor, and the damage dealt changes based on the distance between the singer and the target. At Close distance it deals the baseline damage, with each range increment out to very Far reducing it, and each increment closer increasing it. However, should the singer lay hands upon the target when activating the technique, damage is increased by a full letter rank.

This ability really tickle my paranoia and made me think about our defenses. I hope we get at least B rank in Dodge, Fortitude, Fade and Resilience + art for each one.

Currently we have

Sable Grace: B (1/35) (SCS)
Fortitude: D (1/20) (TRF)

Fade: D (4/20)
Resilience: C (8/25) (SES this turn)

Looking at the keywords there are:

Ephemeral Nights Memory - Fade - mostly offensive/stealth art
Audacious Fairy's Lark - Dodge - flight and touch based larceny
Imperturbable Manor's Hearth - Resilence - group spiritual defences
Darting Labyrinth Shadow - Fade, Resilience - defensive art with extra stealth

Or more realistically wait for archive 2.

"Big Sister is such a show off," her gaze was drawn to her right as Hanyi spoke. The spirit had changed since that day last year, when she had met the little brat in the middle of a blizzard. It had begun recently, and only accelerated with each passing day, but Hanyi was older in appearance now.

She had the same corpse-like pallor, and wore the same threadbare childs dress, but she resembled a young girl of ten or eleven now. Her dark hair was still worn in a child's pig-tails, but it was longer now as well. Yet that stance, with her hands on her hips and her cheeks puffed out in frustration, was still purely Hanyi.

"Is it really showing off if I can still do more?" Ling Qi teased back with a smile, gesturing to the field of flowers. "I'm only meditating after all."

The 'younger' girl glowered at her. "Big Sister is getting to cocky."

"And you've been slacking," Ling Qi replied pointedly. "Just like someone else."

"Oh don't you start, how I am supposed to cultivate in a place like this," Sixiang grumbled. "What kind of atmosphere is this for a poet?"

"Our house is great and pretty!" Hanyi retorted. "Your just a dummy!"

Ling Qi sighed. Sixiang and Hanyi kind of got on like a house on fire. Not the least because Hanyi really didn't like being teased and Sixiang was… Sixiang.

The wind was stirring as Sixiang formed a retort, but it suddenly fell still and silent as a cold shadow fell over them. Ling Qi looked up to find her teacher looking down at her with blank white eyes. "No squabbling in the yard children," The elder spirit replied tonelessly. "You are finished Ling Qi?"

Ling Qi smoothly stood as hanyi scuffed her foot in the snow, and bowed low to her teacher. "I have mastered both arts teacher," she replied. "Thank you very much for your instruction."

Ling Qi felt the brush of translucent fingers of ice against her cheek, and a faint cold pressure on her meridians. "You have, haven't you?" Zeqing said, a touch of fondness and something else hard to identify in her voice. "What a gifted student."

Ling Qi felt herself flush with pride even as she glanced over to see Hanyi looking down, her bangs shadowing her eyes. "Teacher is too kind. I am not the only one who has been working hard though."

"...Indeed not," Zeqing replied, an uneasy edge to her voice. Ling Qi knew without looking that Zeqing was not looking at Hanyi, she had noticed over the last week that the spirit had seemed to almost be avoiding her daughter, it worried her. "You as well, Hanyi," she said nonetheless.

Even that much brightened the younger spirit up, and for a moment, it looked as if she was going to rush forward to hug her Mother, but Ling Qi saw her look up and hesitate. "...Can I consider this months lessons complete, teacher?" Ling Qi said, breaking the uncomfortable silence.

Tough situation.

I really like this insight but 2nd is more practical.

Once refunded, can spenders spend their points in the upcoming training rolls this turn, or do they have to wait for the next?

O_O

...Huh, I noticed we haven't been spending much on meridians lately. We should probably do that soon cause I'm seeing a severe lack of Head (& Spine for the coming arts) right now.
