[x] Ino's not saying much about her issues with Mariko and her friends, but that doesn't mean you haven't noticed them. They're being petty, and there's no better revenge than living well! Help Ino leave those girls in the dust by studying together and training with Gai Sensei!
Helping Ino regain her worthless old friends from the original isn't what she needs. We should be helping her get swole instead, and then help her get new, better friends once she's swole enough, and has utterly demonstrated her superiority.
While I understand where you are coming from, this would not really work with any Yamanaka, especially Ino. The Yamanaka clan jutsu are heavily Yin oriented, while Gai's taijutsu style is heavily Yang chakra based.
It looks like we mostly just have to beef up on Academics if we want to reach first.I'm realizing how much of an issue shooting for number one in the class is. Like, yes, aspire for as much as we can feasibly achieve, but #1 implies a variety of skills we simply don't have the time to spec into. We Taijutsu main, and while having a degree of utility is fine, it's a bad idea to split off too far at this point. We noted that in particular, Sasuke wasn't superior to us in Taijutsu. This says nothing of Ninjutsu, or academics; fully aware Ninjutsu is less likely a concern given chakra at this age, but he's got some other stuff to use, like shuriken training and the like.
Currently, I'd rather focus on our primary abilities so that we have something to throw at people that can actually do significant damage. Which as of now, seems to be Taijutsu. We have the most time to develop that now anyways, without any chakra, and hopefully we're given a teammate who has a fair amount of academic know-how, which while we shouldn't forgo, I believe we shouldn't prioritise.
Those were my thoughts on the matter though. I don't want to get a big head and risk wasting time by trying to drift too far into other fields that may not suit our playing style, simply so we can say we were Rookie of the Year . . . which is actually probably an achievement if I'm thinking about it. Crap.
I think branching out enough so that we can have a decent education is all well and good, it's the part where we compete with Sakura and Sasuke that such a thing poses an issue. It's not really time well spent, and we know Sasuke covers a multitude of fields by the end of the academy. I don't wanna constantly be playing catchup every time he seems to one up us in a given category. It looks like we mostly just have to beef up on Academics if we want to reach first.
It is branching out a little, but in a relatively minor way that will serve us well (since we'll have a good basic knowledgebase).
