At first it I woulda thought it was because have been all the sales he was making because we needed supplies and healing but now....
While Gramps paying him a lot to stay and keep watch was a factor in the first couple weeks, he stayed another entire week that was wholly peaceful. Thus in which he wasn't paid.
The Festival has more significance than we think.
Actually it's pretty common in the digital world. Gramps got the idea from somewhere after all.
He needed a place to lay low.
Oho! And why might a traveling merchant possibly need to lay low? Though the village is pretty far from any civilization and in a low danger zone.
Finding someone who could learn High Programming was worth sticking around a bit longer.
Not the case. He was planning to stay anyway before he learned about Verge being decent at learning High Programming.
Looks like he maybe is preparing for a ritual.
What like sacrificing the villages inhabitants for Ultimate power? *Innocent Whistle*
:p

I doubt that due to it be a really recent development.

Anyways for me maybe he gots some ties to this place. He could personally know Gramps or heck maybe he could possibly be a kid that didn't die on the old mon and actually made it to champion-hood.

He has some rather rare and expensive things like a chrome digizoid sword and seems aligned with the Blessed Host.

He might have made some of the Gloaming guys mad with a deal or "Deal" or maybe just straight up stole from them, and they're between him and home.

Or the Blessed Host is less than please with him Trading things like the Digizoid sword rather than handing it over to the host and he's waiting for them to cool off.

I can confirm you're wrong on the first bit.

On the second half... It would explain why he knows about the village, and why Gramps trusted him to guard it in his place. Plus why Sorcerymon would even accept it in the first place.
He has some rather rare and expensive things like a chrome digizoid sword and seems aligned with the Blessed Host.
As far as Merchants go, his stock certainly isn't low tier. Which makes it odd why he'd spend so much time in a village that can't really afford his high end products that much.

He seems to dislike them enough for it. Though that would probably hurt his reputation as a merchant.
Or the Blessed Host is less than please with him Trading things like the Digizoid sword rather than handing it over to the cost and he;s waiting for them to cool off.
If they were doing that to him, then why would he like them so much?

To give a hint. It does have something to do with a certain mon.

He's going to steal our Imouto!

Or maybe he knows the Gladiator was reborn here but doesn't know who it is yet.

Or He's here for Flamemon since the Ten Legendary Warriors are a full religion here, and he evolves into one.

Kek.

Would be funny, but he doesn't really have a reason for that.
Or maybe he knows the Gladiator was reborn here but doesn't know it is yet.
...He really has no reason to even think that might even be so much as a possibility. Reincarnation's can't just be randomly found out for no reason other than *plot*
Ignore that please. I still have trauma from something I'll not speak about.

Close. But remember, going by dialogue he doesn't seem to be an inherent to the Ten.

[X] Wait on it like he's suggested.
[X] Don't Train, Focus on the first spell. (No stat increase, but increases High Programming skill, and puts progress towards learning the first spell)

This new info is fucking sick, I love it. Makes pretty good sense with the established setting too. Too sleepy to think of anything else to say.

I'm going to guess our wizard friend is here because of something in the mines and is waiting for something to happen.

As considering the amount of focus Drexal has place on that place and all the hints he kept giving about how special the crystals we keep getting from that place has me thinking that is all tied into the reason for our mentor's extended stay.

Verge's hut is the only shelter that has one, and kek.

Okay, if we are the only ones with a t.v. then we are officially the sheltered rich kid in town that recently got their taste of reality. (jk)
Beyond that I have a question to pose at the thread at large. Why would Sorcerymon, a traveling merchant stay in a random village for so long? An entire month.

are we supposed to guess out loud or see if our suspicions are confirmed?

[X] Wait on it like he's suggested.
[X] Don't Train, Focus on the first spell. (No stat increase, but increases High Programming skill, and puts progress towards learning the first spell)

Mainly because the sooner we can cast at least one halpful spell, the better. But medium term, if able to 'div' multiple training sessions, would still advocate Agility.

[X] Don't Train, Focus on the first spell. (No stat increase, but increases High Programming skill, and puts progress towards learning the first spell)
As a note, the reason Sorcerymon is suggesting this is because he thinks Verge has a crush on Lunamon and this will help things along by making the gift giving more more memorable and special.

He thinks "Oni-Chan" is just a cute nickname.
...As someone with a younger sister, this utterly infuriates me!

And suddenly Sorcerymon has taken on a whole new sinister light. He may be an agent of the Holy Host that's on the lookout for something or someone important to them, which may be in the mountain. Hell, for all we know he's the one that hired the Shamammon in order to excavate the place.

...

That's going a wee bit far don't ya think?:p

So, while I was lurking in Discord, noticed there was quite a brewing chat on possible digimon. And well...

For sanity's sake, I'll just throw an abriviated summary of what was discussed, before throwing my own extra cents on the mix.

-
  • Drexal initially asked for two digimon, Rookie tier. But one's that ain't as high as Guilimon
  • Eventually asked for more fine tuning *Under "Something the local trees of Rebirth might produce"
  • Got forest creatures, with Floramon, Kotemon and Betamon being suggested. Before Kotemon got axed due to "I have plans", while Beta mon for first was fine.
  • Then Drexal asked for "Some sort of aggressive rookie"
  • Suggestions were added, such as "Otamamon", Dorumon, Impmon and PawnChessmon (which I added, 'can fit under a Don Quixote angle')
  • Psychemon was also suggested. But since Lockdown used a Psychemon awhile back on a quest, it was gunned down.
  • I then suggested Terriermon (under a "Digivolve to Rambo" angle.) And a list of suggestions led to Gazimon being thrown.
  • Drexal likes Gazimon, so he picks it. And with his descrition, he said it like thus
    Drexal15 said:
A Mammal Digimon with large, sharp claws. It is bipedal, which is rare amongst Mammal types; the claws on its forelegs likely evolved to allow its forelegs to be used as arms, therefore resulting in its bipedalism. It has an extremely aggressive temperament despite its small size, and it never warms up to humans. Although the claws on its forelegs are very effective at attacking, they are also surprisingly suited to digging holes, which it always does as it enjoys watching other Digimon fall into its pitfalls due to its mischievous personality. Its Special Move is breathing poisonous gas (Paralyze Breath).

AKA: Rule 63 evil skinny Verge
  • "Grey Fur, has some anger issues" eventually. Along with Nega Verge comment later... Waifu war jokes were added. More so when he could be the "Gnaw that we could have had." :p
  • Reverse names where suggested (Egrev), along with some speculation on "theme" that's opposite of Verge. Before I realised/suggested, that going by "Daunt" would be better (since it was a 'runner up' in our MC's name)
  • Mirror wise, Drexal15 accidentally threw up Rule 63, which led to a few jokes on Female Verge (when in truth, Digimon gender's can be... very fluid. Mostly...)
  • Some iniitial speculation on "Daunts" personality was held. Until Drexal went 'hmm' on Opposite Personality Verge (like, "Wraithful all the time?") Who in irony, was compared to "Is our opposite Gnaw"?
  • And I (after looking back at the Prologue some more.) Suggested the traits "Willpower", and "Diligent" for our "Nega verse" Verge, (or Daunt. Under "Daunt the Dauntless" meme.)
  • Which would have then, led to "Diligent" Verge (or Daunt), being a training freak. Who would have (in my words), no doubt forced Lunamon to train/study all the time, at set times.
  • Then, went on this statement on if (at first glance.)
    *Daunt, on seeing Verge...*
    "Tch, weak..."

-

And... That's it, rough draft vaguely skim/recall wise. But more seriously, I'd see "Daunt" as being a workaholic, "anything to not think about fears" sort of Digimon. Even if it's to the point of looking like a stressed Digimon, with a fear filled glare (instead of wraith filled.) And will NOT break a promise, once it's made, in seeing his duty through to the bitter end.

The sort of digmon, who'd be as diligent/tenacious as a Terminator, if pushed. And as reliable/hardy as an anchor, who is only just recently began to learn the joy of digging...

That, and may or may not be more physical focused, in contrast to our current Style. Under specialization.

Warning. This update may contain large concentrations of Weeb. You have been warned.

===

That evening and night you do your best to work on the very first spell Sorcerymon gave you, trying to commit the first set of lines to memory before focusing on saying them in sequence. Of course, just as your magical mentor had warned in the past week, actually using a spell is difficult. Trying to read and fully understand the champions explanations within the book as to how the spell itself works proves to be vexing. It's some complicated thing about using the casters internal energy to encourage natural regeneration of the target digimons own source code. By the time you finish off the night your head is positively spinning from trying to get everything. Beyond that there's another problem. You end up having a bit of trouble actually vocalizing the constant stream of numbers with what seem like random pauses, which is only made worse by the occasional stutter that means you have to start all over again.

Much to your gratitude, the next night leaves you with no dream of any sort. Instead it is just a pleasant, completely and utterly dreamless slumber. The next day your morning is once again taken up by another round of chores from Gramps, but then when you're done something particularly odd happens.

After stocking up the village's supply of cooking firewood, you'd expected a few minutes rest before anything else. However that is proven not to be the case as Lunamon hops her way over to your position and then, grabs you by the paw. Before you can so much as question what's going on, the small digimon then starts dragging you towards your shared hut. Here she proves to be stronger than you'd ever previously estimated, as the *Dragging* is entirely literal. She's moving you, a rookie at least several times her weight, even if it's a clear strain.

Of course, you're still actually stronger than her and all it takes is a single tug in the opposite direction to halt her progress. Now that you're actively resisting she can't so much as budge you from your position.

"L-lunamon. What's this about?"

"It's..." She brings down her voice to a whisper. "A secret"

"A-a secret?"

"Yepyep! Now shhh big brother" Lunamon replies frantically looking around the village. Thankfully(?) no one else there seems to have noticed what's happened as Gramps, Flamemon and Sparks are out while Fu is busy tending to the fields. Hesitantly you go along with her, morbidly curious as to just what this *Secret* could be.

So with a nervous gulp, you follow her inside and get ready to face whatever revelation she has in store for you. Lunamon hurries you over to sit on the bed, then after you're comfortable takes a few steps back to stand in the center of the hut.

"W-well. Here goes Onii-Chan" Your ward nervously mumbles before taking a deep breath.

A moment later she breaks out into a sudden smiles, then spins around starts singing in some weird language.

"Aitai na ae-aenai na setsunai na... Kono kimochi!" Lunamon stumbles a bit over the first sentence, and seems to have some trouble keeping her balance with all of her odd dancing motions, but as the song continues she seems to get more comfortable, singing whatever that is without more mistakes. "Ienai no iitai no CHANSU nogashite bakari"

I.. What does any of this mean?

Despite your reservations about this entire affair, Lunamons voice is fairly pleasant to listen to (at least you think so anyways) and her odd spinning bending, and thrusting out her arms is cute in a way. Unfortunately disaster strikes as she gets to what sounds like the very last line.

"Tonde tonde tonde-" She tries to flip backward mid-sentence... but ends up just crashing back down directly onto her face. Quickly you step over and try to help Lunamon back to her, only to be surprised as you see her eyes are filled with water and she's on the verge of tears.

"D-d-did you like it?"

"Umm... Yeah! I-I did Lunamon it was..." You think hard on what Flamemon would say in this situation. "Aw-awesome!" An instant late the tear-filled eyes dry up and Lunamon hops up in victory.

"Yaaay!" She thrusts a hand up into the air in victory and smiles at you bouncing giddily up and down. "I saw that stuff on the Teevee and it sounded cool and I practiced and I think it'd be cool for the festival and..." The hyperactive mon freezes in place and winces. "But-but I don't know if Gramps will let me. "

I-I don't see why he wouldn't... Maybe? Actually do I know much about the festival at all?

"So big brother can... Can you maybe watch me practice? Just for a bit each day pleeeeease? Then maybehelpmetalktoGrampsaboutit?"

=== (Choose One)

[] Yes, you'll agree to help Lunamon by watching her practice and eventually talking to Gramps about her performing in the festival.

[] No, you'll decide to opt out of this one. While you like Lunmaon quite a bit, you're not sure how this might go over with Gramps, thus it might be better if she dropped things here.

=== Skill Changes:

Basic High Programming: 4/100->5/100

Verge is 1/6th (He thinks) of the way to figuring out the first spell.

Authors Note: No beta tonight. Ended up folding the update in half, since I don't think I could get the second part done by the end of tonight anyway. Hmm. I'll see if I have time tomorrow morning to get the other part out. It has something to do with Auger!

Beta-er's Note: Lies and Slander I did my work.

(Authors Clarification. @no wasn't able to help tonight so the illustrious @Rathous helped instead. Thank you very much for you help)
