[jk] How about we name him Loser because we are totally better than him and Flamemon sempai loves and respects us way more than him... what I'm not jealous!
Hehehe. That's actually pretty funny. You've inspired a sentence or two in the next update!

So, a question for everyone, what do you guys think of the quest so far? In terms of pacing and the general content/theme that's been going on so far? Do you think that Verge has at all improved since his first introduction, and has it been organic? Have the characters mostly been believable and consistent?
I'm going to be working on another lore entry next, the the next update should be sometime tonight.
Pacing's been fairly good, not too slow and not too fast, balanced.
Decision making overall has let us do some things (like us having the choice for Verge to respond with either willpower or wrath) that have had a major impact to our character and how we go forward from here, unlike some other quests that tend to have a problem of railroading a bit too much.
Us being able to do write-in's is rather nice and adds more discussion to the mix. Though with the current vote we are doing (making a name for Demi-Meramon) I think it would have been better as to not have had any suggestions added on, as to make more voters look at the discussion and think about it further.
The character of Verge has been established the beginning, this makes it so we don't have that early confusion at the start of quests with players being "What is our character like?" for too long.
A good-natured coward that secretly feels pure wrath as our protagonist really intrigues me in how the future of this quest will be like, and the problems that we will have to face due to it. I can also relate with the whole "I feel this utter hatred inside of me but I don't wanna act on it" myself.
It's fairly early in the quest so some characters haven't been fleshed out too much, but I can get an overall feel on how they are like on the surface. I'm personally betting on Gnaw being a total tsundere.
This about it for how the quest has been to me, fairly good in it's somewhat short time-span.

Thanks Romanceninja! Still got a couple weeks to go IC before the prologue ends so I hope I can flesh everyone out in a satisfactory manner! Are there any specific character you feel might not have been touched on enough in the first week?

As our biggest weakness right now is our complete lack of ability to move, dig or react fast enough to do anything in a fight. So I want to fix that so we can help make tunnel fighting a viable option for us right now.

I would like to see more of how Fu and Lunamon are like. But it's been fairly equal from what I've seen with how much screen-time each of our cast gets.
Evolution, a process every digimon goes through to reach their next tier of existence. It is a quick process and most often catapults the one undergoing it into far greater power than before. Though as with Numemon, there are exceptions to this rule.
Every digimon will "digivolve" multiple times in their life cycle, sometimes as many as five or six times with each occurrence boosting them up a stage. Rookies become champions, champions become ultimates, and ultimates become Megas.
The act itself tends to be a fairly simple affair, as the digimon in question will emit bright light, their data losing it's former shape for a brief moment before shifting towards their new form. Most of the time this comes with an increase in size, though in something like the case from Golemon to Knightmon this is not the case.
Because it happens so fast (perhaps a moment) it's rare to see evolutions get interrupted, but in the rare case that it does happen the mon undergoing the transformation is highly vulnerable and taking damage may cause them to revert back a previous stage or even get deleted if the damage is bad enough.
Digivolving itself is a natural process, one that tends to happen once a digimon has grown powerful enough in its current form that the potential within it is able to trigger. Almost every digimon save most Megas have the potential to access said new forms, it's just a matter of building themselves up to it. Naturally some digimon have harder times reaching this state than others, with a small number of them finding it exceedingly hard for their data to reach that critical state.
Destabilizing the data with high emotions, or even physical damage can often work to circumvent this however, and can even cause some digimon to evolve before they're "ready". Though the former can cause a dark evolution, while the latter may accidentally kill the mon in question. A truly massive intake of data may also trigger evolution....or make the digimon in question explode.
Reaching to that point point is normally accomplished through two ways. Training to improve their bodies, or taking the data from other digimon to increase their own power.
There are several types of evolution that exist in the digital world, but the most common one is by far "natural" evolution most digimon have after enough time has passed, and their stats rise high enough.
Dark evolution meanwhile is when a digimon evolves because of a powerful, overwhelming emotion such as rage. This will more often than naught force them into a different form than their normal evolutionary line, most likely a virus type of some sort. It also comes with emotional effects as well, temporarily or in some cases permanently overwhelming their mental state. Those with particularly strong wills however have been able to avoid that fate.
Artificial evolutions do exist as well however. "Digimentals" small objects that look almost like digi-eggs can potentially bond with a digimon to trigger their evolution. In many cases this tends to create a more powerful form than natural evolutions, especially if the base level of the mon in question is high. However this is extremely rare, simply because digimentals are very, very, rare and when one appears it's either extremely expensive or fought over by other digimon to see who can claim it.
Supposedly the "Legendary Spirits" can be used in a similar way, as if a digimon is able to bond with one they can become an extremely powerful champion or ultimate level digimon depending on the type of spirit in question. Of course, with each spirit guarded inside fully staffed temples reaching them is not something your average mon can do anyway.
Perhaps the most obscure and rare evolution however is the "Equipment" evolution, where a digimon is able to bond with the equipment left behind by another deceased digimon of a higher level. Though this only works if the data of the mon in question is compatible with that of the preserved equipment.
A tiny minority of digimon have been noted to be able to *slide* in between different forms through some unknown process. Though the term is used to label two seperare phenomena, digimon moving up and down their evolutionary line at will, and those moving between different species.
Lastly there is the most powerful of all evolutions. *Fusion* or *Jogress* is the process in which two ore more digimon combine their power and then evolve into a new more powerful form. Because it is two seperate digimon adding their power together isntead of simple one, the resulting multiplier from the evolution itself ends up working with a higher base. Thus propelling the new singular digimon in question to strength far greater than the norm for its level. Sometimes this is a temporary process and the digimon will split back up after enough time, but for some reason other Jogresses seem to be permanent.
Actually reaching the potential to Jogress is difficult as the two digimon in question must be very close on a personal level and the right species to allow for a Jogress to happen. Triggering the process is generally not easy either for that matter usually requiring great stress on the part of both partners.
As a final note, it is possible to be knocked out of an evolution, this mainly occurs when a digimon is brought to a near death state and their data loses it's stability in that form. Sometimes instead of death this merely results in the digimon going down to their previous form. This however can make it even harder for them to evolve next time.

Hmm, well quite honestly getting to that point where digging in combat is viable is a fair ways off. And it's going to require higher strength as well. Well that and a much higher digging skill.
Edit: Sparks as a name has won.

I agree with your sentiment, although I agree that they do get a fair share of screen time. Plus its early on so, establishing everything takes precedence of course.
Though the latter can cause a dark evolution, while the latter may accidentally kill the mon in question. A truly massive intake of data may also trigger evolution....or make the digimon in question explode.
Heh, in hindsight there was a better way to do things. This basically just gave a bunch of votes. Instead I should have just had 1 vote prioritizing a couple different things or something. Lesson hopefully learnt.
So is "extremely powerful and important Digimon (such as the Seraphimon from our dream) gifting some power to a trusted subordinate (without gifting an item)" not a means of evolution here?
It's got some similarities to some of the other methods, but seems like it would also be a bit distinct from them. Presumably being mostly similar to gaining data from deleting other Digimon, but with your evolution slanted slightly in the direction of the Digimon empowering you (like a much lesser form of Equipment based evolutions).

All preparations for the New Years festival end up being temporarily put on hold by Gramps, as even so much as he wants to keep preparations going, the scarred Elecmon posits that the villages overall safety is much more important. In the face of a new threat (the Goblimon) going outside the village far outside the walls is heavily discouraged, with a new rule put forth that none of you should head out unless it's part of a group of at least three digimon.
Gramps himself is not beholden to this rule as over the next few days he keeps venturing out in the mornings and afternoons to investigate the areas new occupants. The villages caretaker mostly ends up taking Flamemon along sans sparks in the morning and opts to take Gnaw with him in the afternoons.
Speaking of the Blackgabumon you're still a bit more wary of him than even before, but you've managed to get past the idea that one day he might try and delete you just like that trapped rookie. While you don't get much of a chance to interact with him over the following days, in the few moments you spend together he seems slightly more affable towards you than before. Not that it stops him from trying to scare you every now and then.
With the three of them busy investigating, and festival preparations put on hold, you're not actually left with that much to do in the mornings besides sleep in or play with Lunamon and the newly christened sparks. Admittedly at first you find yourself a little jealous about how the In-Training digimon had been monopolizing Flamemons time, but you quickly end up warming up to his presence. You're even able to introduce Lunamon to Sparks and to your surprise the two of them actually get along quite well with your ward even going so far as to help the Demi-Meramon learn to speak properly. Thankfully she doesn't try and teach him her *special* word for you.
The care-free games end up being pretty fun and you do enjoy being able to go about things without having to worry about unfamiliar digimon. Once again your ability to dig comes in handy allowing you to dominate the *hide* portion of hide and seek. Still.... you can't help but think that it won't last forever.
Your afternoons are a different story entirely. After getting back from "heroically exploring" with Gramps, the tall rookie spends his time training, making sure to bring you along for the process each time. The exercises he suggests that you do are difficult, pushing your bodies strength, endurance and fortitude to their absolute limits but by the end of things you can't help but note a visible increase to your general physical prowess. It was a bit difficult to notice it at first, but now you run at nearly the double the speed you had at the start of the week for much longer than before. Breaking through the ground, also proves easier as you can simply put more force into pushing your paws down. Sparks, who has a habit of watching the training, does his best to cheer you both on even if his way of doing so is a bit limited. Oddly enough your eyes also start playing tricks on you, as there's no way that everyone else has shrunk in the last week!
However even so much as you improve, Flamemon is simply on another level entirely. While your own growth is mostly incremental Flamemon improves in leaps and bounds, to the point where he can literally run circles around you and that's when he's taking it easy. Your best friend can move nearly double the number of stacked wood that you can and then continue running with it long after you collapse from the strain. When the two of you "Spar" on the last day you're not able to much as clip him when he doesn't want to be hit and proves himself able to easily throw you around without much apparent effort. Then when Flamemon intentionally stands still, he somehow manages to withstand your very strongest swipes without earning more than a few minor scratches here and there, but he still has to avoid your more thrust oriented attacks. His body isn't as tough as stone, or at least it's not that tough yet anyways.
While his increased power is awe-inspiring, you can't help but feel melancholic when pondering his improvements. You'd sworn to keep by his side and help him become a great hero but with just how powerful he's becoming....will there really be anything that you can do to help him? Even if you keep training as hard as you can, then Flamemon might be forced to leave you behind.
Over the next few days , Auger spends most of his time inside his hut, only coming out for meals or to go buy things from Sorcerymon. You don't actually catch sight of what he spends his bits on as he always brings the white champion to his hut first, keeping it a mystery. Fu occasionally join in on your morning fun, but spends most of her time either tending the villages small fields or spitting at the wall while running as fast as she can. At some point you actually ask both of them what they're doing but Auger isn't the most responsive while Fu just cheerily asks if you'd like to join her....as target practice. It's more than a little worrying honestly, but there's little you can actually do to get a straight answer from the older rookies. In the end you best guess is that Fu is somehow training and Auger is....well you don'y know enough to make one about him.

The peaceful times end on the eve of the eight day when Gramps calls another assembly in front of the villages Tree of rebirth and announces that he has an update on the situation. It's not a particularly pleasant one.
"Listen up!" Gramp barks from his position on the roots of the tree. "I've looked into the Goblimon coming around and...." The red digimon grumbles something under his breath, "Spirits above, It's worse than I thought!"
O-Oh no.
"Hrm. We managed to find exactly where ten damned idiots are gathering south of here, but I can't drive them away myself. There's too many of them" Gramps turns his head and spits angrily on the ground. "I counted over a hundred Goblimon in between visits and they're mining out the nearby small mountain an-"
"Enough!" The Scarred Elecmon growls, cutting the larger rookie off. "Be quiet while I'm talking!" The Armadillomon blinks seeming to only realize now what he'd done, takes a look around to see every other rookie (yourself included) staring at him in shock then let out a chagrined smile while Gramps gets back to speaking. "Rgh..they're set up in a number of mine shafts" Gramps explains, "Digging out whatever they can find. We already know some of them *wander off* so it's only a matter of time until they find the village." Something on the rookies face changes, almost as if he's remembering something. "That. Can not. Happen. They will destroy everything."
You can't help but swallow nervously upon hearing that bit of information, the image of a horde of those green rookies swarming in through the gate and trying to smash everything with their clubs fills your mind. Then a comforting hand lands on your back and you stop shivering. Flamemon gives you a happy grin before pumping his other arm into the air first first. For a moment you wonder just why he'd possibly act this way. Then the horrifying truth hits you.
F-flamemon he....he isn't s-scared of them. I-he. Flamemon wants to fight them.
"-drive them away one group at a time" Gramps voice chimes in from the background. "Force them away from the village"
"We'll heroically defeat them in the name of justice!" Flamemon shouts giddily. "They won't stand a chance against our combined might!" Flamemon takes a breath to say more, but closes his mouth as Gramps shoots him an annoyed glare.
"I..." The scarred old Elecmon grimaces, clenches his teeth and then forces out a final set of words. "....ten forgive me. I need volunteers, to help me fight"
Gnaw lets out an eager howl and steps forward, grinning maliciously towards something far off in the distance.
"Bwahahahahaha! I'll tear them to pieces!"
Auger waddles forward next, his face uncharacteristically angry.
"Mmm. Me too"
"Fufufu! I-I'll help too!" The Lalamon cries jumping up into the air.
"Heh, of course we're in!" Flamemon announces, using one hand to casually drag you forward. "It's the heroic thing to do!"
Nononononon! I don't w-want to! He'll delete me he'll....I-I
You nearly try and scurry back out of his grip wanting no part in the fighting ahead, but something stop you and it's not Flamemons grip.
Ah-I'll h-help you Flamemon! T-to be a h-hero I mean I-I'll support your awesome dream n-no matter what!
Gramps looks down at you worriedly, waiting for an answer. You hesitantly let out a shaky nod and surprisingly the Elecmon smiles. Despite the resolve, you can't help but feel absolutely terrified about what might come in the near future.
"Ooh! Ooh! Can I join too!" Sparks shouts, excitedly flying up to Gramps. The old rookie shakes his head but you catch from his expression that Gramps is somewhat...amused. As you watch him and Flamemon try to talk the In-Training digimon down a small hand tugs on your fur.
"D-do I hafta fight too?" Lunamon mumbles, staring up at you water-filled eyes. "I don wanna hurt anyone"
"No Lunamon. Y-you don't"
"W-wiw you protect me?"

Everyone goes to bed shortly thereafter the assembly, with Sorcerymon having volunteered to keep watch over the village during the night even Gramps is able to get some shut-eye in preparation for tomorrow. It doesn't take Lunamon very long to nod off after getting on your bed, but you find sleep a very illusive thing. The threat of that dark green Goblimon lurks in the back of you mind, a threat on your life should you ever go back...which was exactly what you'd just agreed to do.
Then the's the fact that you volunteered to help fight what could be hordes of other rookies, other digimon that would beat you up with their clubs in a fight and surely delete you if you lost. While you'd done some sparring with Flamemon, the fact is that you have no idea how you might compare to more 'normal' digimon in a fight.
One moment you're thinking of the future with untold amounts of dread, and the next everything suddenly seems....calmer. Darkness crawls around your eyelids as the worries of the day simply slip away. The last thing you see before sleep takes you is the same grey blurry figure from last week appearing inside the hut.

So. I managed to fisnnly show just what exactly Verge said after that devotion choice. Feels good.
As one might expect, the coming week in game is going to shift things a bit to a more combat focused game. Though I should note that I'll also be doing my best to keep the character interactions and pacing roughly the same. We'll see if I'm able to do it.
Sorcerymon's Shop will see a return at some, once Verge actually has the bits needed.
