[] You're conflicted. You hope Gnaw only did what he thought was best for the village, as you don't want to him to be a bad. But you can't help compare what he did and how he acted to that Goblimon and that terrifies you. Because if Gnaw can "delete" so easily, does that mean your other friends can or have done so too? Does that mean you are expected to be able to do the same when you grow older too?
-[] You need to talk with Gramp's.

Because of the relative "closeness" of Gnaw's trap returning to the village proves to be a fairly quick task. Unlike every other outing this week, you hadn't walked for hours, but rather just only gone outside the gate then circled around the walls. During the walk you can't help but uncomfortably start contemplating the what had happened just a couple minutes ago, how you helped allow the death to happen and it leaves you highly conflicted.
You hope down to your very core that Gnaw only did what he thought was best for the village, as despite his demeanor and bullying of you it's clear that the Blackgabumon
does care. He's not a bad digimon, or at least....that's what you want to believe. However despite that, you can't help but find yourself comparing his actions to the threat made by that oddly colored Goblimon. Both of them were ready to kill, to delete others without any sense of remorse and you can't help but be terrified upon realizing said connection. That one day Gnaw might decide that you have to *be gone*
The quivering running down your body doesn't stop until you reach the villages gate, but then another thought freezes you in place. If Gnaw can "delete" others so easily, does that mean that the others had done so as well? Not to mention you're a rookie now too so.....
Does that mean I'll have to d-delete others too?
A nervous swallow makes its way down your throat and you realize that there's only one digimon you can talk to about this. Gramps. The Scarred old Elecmon is in charge so he has to know! While Flamemon would be a more comforting option he isn't actually much older than you and might not even know about it! So with fear driven speed and no small amount of trepidation you scamper back inside the village and begin looking for it's caretaker. Gnaw
He proves to be standing the tree of rebirth, speaking quietly with Flamemon over something. As you get closer it becomes clear that the pair of rookies are speaking about a search for where the many Goblimon are based, Gramps is trying to stay fairly quiet, Flamemon....not so much.
"-en darned...we didn't find anything this morning. Spirits above where could they be?"
"Heh, don't worry so much Gramps, this is just one step in our heroic journey!" Flamemon shouts before heroically thrusting his right first into the air. "We'll find those dastardly villains and defeat them!
"Grr. Ten give me strength" The scarred Elecmon prays angrily, looking up into the sky. "We're not fighting yet. I'm only
allowing you along so I can keep an eye on you.
Otherwise I have no doubt that you'd do something stupid"
"....would not." Flamemon mutters, turning his head away and stubbornly crossing his arms.
Gramps snorts in derision then shakes his head, ending the conversation and allowing the much taller rookie to head off. Flamemon spots you waiting nearby, but surprisingly doesn't try to talk to you. Instead he grins for some strange reason, then sprints away towards his hut. This gives you the opportunity to clear timidly clear your throat and then explain the mornings events. Upon hearing your explanation and worries about being forced to delete others, the villages eldest rookie takes a deep breath, then slumps down. He doesn't look all that surprised by your words but rather seems more....sad than anything else.
"Verge.....I'm not going to force you to delete others, I swear by the
Ten Legendary Spirits themselves" Something about his emphasis on the words puts you strangely at east and the fear you'd been harboring since entering the village slowly begins to fade away. "I thought that he might be the type for it, ever since Flamemon evolved the darn fool's been struggling to keep up any way he can.
Would also explain why that Goblimon attacked you and Auger, that short-sighted...." Gramps trails off into a weary sigh. "Deleting other digimon is a tough choice Verge. I've done it before to protect this village
and I'm going to hunt down that ten damned bird at some point, but it's never a decision to be made lightly, one I'll never force on others." Gramps pushes himself back up to his hind legs, steps forward and then lays a paw on your head. "Don't worry about it Verge, you didn't know what was going to happen." He says running his other paw through the fur on his head. "I'll talk with Gnaw about what happened"
At this point you're sure he'd hug any of the other members of your village, but he restrains himself from doing the same to you. He stays like that for several seconds, silently reassuring you then drops back down. For the first time you can't help but notice just how much smaller he is than you. The elder Elecmon barely makes it up to your chin once he's down on all fours like that.
"Th-thanks Gramps"
He sends you a warm smile, then looks past your head where Gnaw is sitting by the Cauldron and then grunts.
"It'll be lunchtime soon. I should start cooking.
Before everyone starts whining about being hungry"
You watch the tired old digmon hop away and for some reason find a feeling rising in your chest.....happiness. Flamemon interrupts you a few seconds later, bursting out of his hut with a ball of orange fire in-between his hands.
"Hey Verge!" He shouts excitedly, waving the small figure to and fro. "I taught Demi-Meramon his first words!"
F-first words? Really?! You're awesome Flamemon!
"
Haro!" The In-Training digimon shouts proudly. "
Haro! Haro!"
A slight feeling of nervousness rises up from your core as the new digimon closes, but....for some reason you find yourself not wanting to cower. The nervousness is still there, but the fear you thought you'd feel is completely absent.
Huh....Yes Verge! I-I'm better!
The Demi-Meramon flies out of Flamemons hand and happily begins flying around your head, whooping and shouting "
Haro!" all the while. Unfortunately the fiery digimon leaves little sparks of fire raining down as he does so, lightly singing some of your fur.
"Heh, I can tell Verge. He shall be a great ally of justice one day!" Flamemon grins. "I've already taught him how to say hero!" You open your mouth, wanting to point out that the baby digimon isn't exactly saying "Hero" but the happiness on his face forces you to say something else.
"Y-yeah"
"Hmm. Demi-Meramon is a bit too long. Heroes need nice short names!" Flamemon rounds on you, one of his hands clutched around his chin. "Hmm. Ah! You're good with nicknames Verge! What should we call him?"
