-[X] From what you gather, the incubators, puella magi, TSAB are not the only factions at play or even the only supernatural groups, there probably exist even factions both mundane and supernatural who don't know about each other and you two haven't seen yet, tell Nanoha about your dreams encounter with monsters, Yuuko, the berserker who is not a witch or a puella.
[X] Tell Nanoha that you guys deserve a break from the fantasy magical girl genre and to switch to a situation more sci-fi instead.
-[X] Kayaba is not part of the supernatural world, for all intents he should be a mere mortal and human, but there is no harm in investigating any important events involving him and his technology the VR helmet.
-[X] Joke about Kayaba being either a robot or a robot sent by aliens to either use the helmet to create brain dead zombies or brainwash enough people to turn into cultists to worship a eldritch digital god. Joke about you and Nanoha starting a justice league similar organization along with other do-gooders out to save the world or something. Make sure she knows your serious about investigating Kayaba.

Some basic accounting...
Time: 9:37:58 P.M.
Grief: 320/1000
Sanity: 177/1000
Stability Multiplier: 0.9
Time: 10:07:34 P.M.
Grief: 330/1000
Sanity: 168/1000
Stability Multiplier: 0.9
Since the moment Homura decided to explain the deal with Puella Magi to Nanoha, some things changed:
Time + 29min 36s
Grief +10
Sanity -9
Sanity/Time -0.3 SAN/min
So, it was a mildly stressful interaction... but how much is it, exactly? Compared to other stresses of Homura's life?
Let's compare to something bigger...
Time: 3:49:58 P.M.
Grief: 179/1000
Sanity: 136/1000
Stability Multiplier: 1.4
Time: 4:07:21 P.M.
Grief: 184/1000
Sanity: 115/1000
Stability Multiplier: 1.4
Time +17min 23s
Grief +5
Sanity -21
Sanity/Time -1.21 SAN/min

Explaining Contracts to Madoka was a bigger deal. About 4 times bigger.
Still, there are the Stability Multipliers- Homura right now is far calmer than then.
What kind of drain is explaining things about Witches regardless from Homura's emotional state?

True_Sanity/Time * StabMulti = Sanity/Time_we_see_in_update
So.. True_Sanity/Time = Sanity/Time_we_see_in_update / StabMulti

For the current explanation, it was:
-0.3/0.9 = -0.33
And for Madoka's interrupted contracting:
-1.21/1.4 = -0.86
It was still a bigger drain on Homura. About 2.5 times bigger.

What does it mean?
Right now, nothing besides the obvious. Homura was more affected by trying to prevent her lady friend from succumbing to soul scam from corporate alien environmentalists, rather than explaining her job to yet another lay(wo)man.
If we got more samples to compare, we'd see exactly how many fucks does Homura give about certain kinds of situations.
Of course, there's the question- is True_Sanity/Time even a thing? Is there a... baseline, which measures how Homura would feel about certain situations, were she in a neutral mood? Or is her reaction to different situations and her general state of mind connected too deeply to try and analyze them separately? Why am I even writing all of this, since there's seemingly no reason behind it?

Answer is: I missed my bed time and basic accounting post turned into... this. Half-tempted to just delete it all, but it's a shame to waste all that.

If we got more samples to compare, we'd see exactly how many fucks does Homura give about certain kinds of situations.
Hmm ... here (and following posts) she goes from 125 Grief and 231 SAN (STAB = 1.15) to 150 Grief and 229 SAN over the course of five minutes explaining that Witches are Magical Girls to Kyouko. And then four minutes later, after explaining Soul Gems to Kyouko (and seeing her own Soul Gem has changed), she goes to 155 Grief and 228 SAN. The explanation on Grief and Spiraling (ten minutes) changes that to 170 Grief and 225 SAN.

So over the course of a twenty minute conversation, she gains 45 Grief but only loses 6 SAN. About -.3 SAN per minute - the same as with Nanoha (although a much larger Grief change due to interactions with Kyouko and memories). Factoring Stability in, it comes out to -.26 SAN per minute.

10 minute warning.

You pause for a beat, hesitant, but agree, "Okay. That's enough for today...just, please, don't act on this quite yet. There are still numerous factors you don't understand, and...well, you know how dangerous it could be, if you misstepped."

She nods, forcing a weak smile, "Of course. I...I probably won't be doing much tomorrow, anyway. This is...a bit much."

You're...not really sure what to do here. On one hand, you could just leave, as she asked. On the other...you're not really comfortable leaving her alone here. She should be fine, but...

"...maybe we could talk about something else, for a few? Help you clear your head?"

Her smile tightens at that, "What did you have in mind?"

"Well, we could talk about Magic? I mean, yours, not ours. It's pretty abstracted in the show..."

She nods, "Well, you see, it's all about using magic formulae to guide the energy that is produced by Linker Cores, which--"

She cuts off, biting her lip, "Let's not. Just...not right now, okay? I really just want some time to myself, alright? Later."

You still don't like it, but you accept it, "Call me if you--" If she what? Starts Witching?

She shakes her head, "Don't worry. I'm not...I'll be fine, alone. Thank you, though."

You head off, trying to decide where to go now...

Magic was not a good choice of topic, considering the recent revelations.
I told you guys, a gun 'n ice cream date would be perfect, but of course we have to be workaholics and try to game the system for more practical advantages over socializing.

No, really, it's actually in-character for Homura.
