Crystalwatcher's Magical Girl Quest!

I believe you are referring to the Spell-Boost ability?
Not really. More like, a rough equivalent for a conditional Omni-Caster - in that making a basic attack with a Document has an additional effect of casting one of the spells so upgraded. Spell Boost has little to do with it.

You can see this in The Fire That Burns quest with Endless Soul - where every swing of her blade casts Sever (Dance of Death).
The idea was that you aren't just slapping someone with a unnamed Document - but that you are slapping them with a Warrant, an Acquittal, a Subpoena and so on.

It seems to me the main difference between the two is whether you could then use multiple spells per turn or not. Because Spell-Boost is where you are using the weapon to cast the spell; so she'd be using a document to use a warrant on someone.

That said, I think that may be better than what I have now. Right now Righteous Lawyer is based around the cross-examination ability, but removing that and making Lawyer's 'thing' be the document weapon having various different abilities by having it cast a spell each swing would be more fitting, as a Lawyer has many tricks to succeed in a court room.

Edit: This is what I mean. I feel like this way has a more unified theme, but I'm not sure which sheet is better.

Disregarding the Shops, option 1 feels a lot more like a Story Maker, but the limitations on fighting style inherent to feeling like a Story Maker also mean that you'd need to be careful as to what type of situations you put her in. She's the kind of character who acts as a support unit for a team, not someone designed to go solo.

I'm glad you think that way since her not being able to go solo is actually an integral part of her backstory. I think if no one else disagrees then I will go with that version then.

Yeah, that was mainly just to make sure that you as a QM are aware that its a character who isn't meant to fight like that, so you make sure not to make her be in the type of quest in which fighting that way is normal.

For everyone who cares (and is too lazy to go back and re-read the section of the update) I've finished edits on another section.

The last edits are waiting approval from @LostDeviljho before I put them up as well, but in the meantime work on the next update has commenced.

You find Hero WEAPON next. The blonde girl is at the base PX, collecting several bags of popcorn while the multi-colored hair of Gaia's avatar bobs around the candy isle.

You blink once that last part registers. "Do I want to know?"

Hero shoots a look over her shoulder as she finishes paying for the popcorn. "She likes Twizzlers. Don't ask me why, because I don't have a clue. I'm already paying for all the ones they have on the shelf." The girl at the cash register nods awkwardly in confirmation.

You look back to Gaia. "I sense a story there. Would you care to share at all?"

Hero chuckles, "It's a bit of a long one. You sure you want to hear it?" You nod firmly in confirmation, even as the cashier finishes placing Hero's purchases into a bag and passes them to the magical girl.

The older girl picks up the now-bagged candies. "Well... the first thing you need to know is that Mother loves us. No matter what it is, she is fascinated by all that Humanity has to offer. Though she has different morals than we understand as normal and can sometimes come off as callous or even cruel."

You and Hero walk a few steps to the side, away from the cashier. Gaia's avatar drifting away from the candy isle towards the pastries. Hero herself comes to a stop next to a vending machine, ruffling through her pockets for loose change. "If she can be so cruel, then why become a WEAPON?" Hero looks inquiringly at you. Blushing, you continue. "I mean... what would the point be? Wouldn't she force those morals onto you?"

Hero smiles. "It's actually because she's cruel I decided to become a WEAPON, something we each made a choice for. You see, I lost my original family in a fire that was started by one of her thunder storms. She could have saved them, but she didn't because the event awoke my Magical Girl powers. I hated her over that for a time... but I eventually learned that she did not do it out of malice, or to torture me. She let them die, because she did not see a reason to save them. Their deaths, despite being caused by her actions, were a natural thing. Or that is how she sees it. Which is why I eventually agreed to my post as a WEAPON." The vending machine rumbles, spitting out a Doctor P. Hero crouches down to fish it out of the dispenser. "Angel became a WEAPON because she agrees with Mother's plans for Humanity. To uplift them. Sin became a WEAPON because she wants to protect our world. I became a WEAPON in order to help Gaia understand her connection to us Humans better. To keep things such as what happened to me from repeating itself."

"That makes a bit of sense." You reply as she stands up. "How long have you been at it? Make any progress?"

Turning to you, Hero waves her soda towards Gaia's avatar. "Two years, I've been able to help Mother understand. The amount of tragedies caused by her Apathetic Love have decreased from a common occurrence to a rare thing. She does not understand, not truly, but she tries. Her Table Top sessions have been helping, but it's still a long road."

You look from Hero to Gaia, raising a pointed eyebrow. "Do you think she'll ever fully understand?"

Hero shakes her head. "I doubt it. As much as I love Mother, she is too far beyond a Human perspective to ever truly value individual humans she's never bothered to directly interact with. She sees time as it's described by the movement of the Tectonic Plates. We are far too fleeting to ever have any real meaning when measured against that. All of our history, recorded or otherwise, doesn't even amount to a blink to her." Hero trails off as the ambient light surrounding the two of you suddenly shifts.

Gaia's glowing avatar -literally glowing- comes out of the isle with her artificial shirt ("Flat Is Justice!") wrapped around a payload of more candy in a makeshift carry bag. "Hello Nepgear." She grins, causing the mouthful of candy sticking out to fan up in front of her face. "It's been a while."

"Hello Gaia. I'm visiting Magical Girls on Base, and well... I heard you and Hero were sticking around for a while so I thought..."

"Ah. That makes sense. I've actually been a little interested in you." She throws an arm over your shoulder and swallows her candy with a slurp. "We could sit down and talk to each other for a while..." She leans in, "get to know one another a bit better..."

You swallow, uncomfortably aware of how her artificial body is pressing up against you. "I... need an adult?"

She smiles, breathing across your cheek, "I am an adul-"

Hero's Doctor Pepper hisses as it's opened right next to your faces and both of you squeak in surprise. She gives Gaia a flat stare, looking less then impressed. "Mother, you're being weird again. Stop that." She pops the soda's lid off and takes a drink.

Gaia pouts, suddenly looking a lot less mature than she had a few moments ago, "I am not! Take that back!"

Hero rolls her eyes and walks out of the PX without a word. "Hey! I'm not done with you! Get back here!" Still pouting Gaia looks at you. "You see what I have to work with? Claims to love me like a mother, and she goes and does this to me. I am so unloved!"

You fidget awkwardly, "Uhm... don't worry? I still love you." Gaia looks at you looking slightly stumped for a moment. You fidget some more.

Then she squeals and physically leaps at you shouting something along the lines of 'imotou aura' and 'sister cancer'. Hero makes her escape in the chaos.

Glad to know you guys approve of the rewritten parts.

The scene between Fable and Nepgear is/will be the last part to be rewritten as well. My hope is that it'll give a bit more interaction rather than just be the "now feel bad" scene it currently is. I'm also trying to find other scenes similar in my future plans so I can add more depth, since recent work with Fusou on another story is showing me how shallow a lot of the recent updates have been. Especially when compared to the first few updates.

Apologies on the delay.

Confirmed Magical Girl
Sup everyone! It's your favorite Magical Idol, Grey Champion, here! Today I'm going to be talking with everyone about a belated subject that I had been meaning to go into before I died, but we all know how that ended.

Also, @KirbyQuestVets . What the fuck?! Five thousand pages of What. The. Fuck?! I trusted you guys! I'm going through with the surviving administration to see what else was missed in that mess, but there's going to be a massive reduction in administration staff in the near future. I never thought a Cake Singularity could get someone banned, but dammit!

Gah!! Internet!! I hate it as much as I love it.

Crap I'm getting side tracked again. Anyway, this post is meant to be a big info gore into the less-known aspects of what being a Magical Girl nets you as well as certain limitations that comes with these bonuses and up ticks.

Be grateful.

Anyway... where to start...

Automatic Identity Protection

This is the Big One. An inherent part of being a Magical Girl is the fuzzing of the girl's identity when transformed. The Counter Force did a bit of research into the phenomena while I was six feet under and pushing up daisies so I can give some more details then I would have been able to originally, but bleh.

To start with, there's a kind of "this is not the girl you're looking for" field that hangs around Magical Girls while they're not transformed. It's strong enough that even facial recognition software with magical enchantments specifically designed to pierce it will read false negatives. They even used a brand new system with only that girl's image on it to try and it still said it wasn't her, even after she transformed on camera for them. It's that strong. Now for squishy organics, they get a protection against it if the Girl in question personally confirms it for them, but without that confirmation it makes it hard to actually connect the two egos even for those who watched that girl transform right in front of them. It's really neat.

The problem is it also works for "Dark" Magical Girls that hopped onto the Unified Darkness bandwagon, and it also doesn't keep another Magical Girl from connecting those dots for themselves outside of help. Makes it a bit awkward when you end up with groups of Magical Girls in secret shadow wars running around.

Transformation Time Limits

This one's a bit harder to explain, but still useful to know. Especially since a number of recent Girls have found ways around the limitation and how to use it to their advantage.

I'm sure everyone knows that a Magical Girl can remain transformed for a limited amount of time, but there's a reason for that. Namely, when a Magical Girl is transformed they have a functionally infinite pool of magical power to draw upon for their abilities. Sure, their ability to access this pool is limited by their ability to channel the power, but the pool itself is also limited in size depending on the Magical Girl.

Right now you're probably asking "wtf mate? didn't you just say it was infinite?" and I now reply with "Yes, I did. But not in the way you were expecting."

For, you see, the pool that Magical Girls can draw upon are limited in size, they also don't regenerate while the Magical Girl is transformed. Instead what happens is a steady stream of magic is pulled from this pool as payment for them to pull off their bullshit for no extra cost: even the cost of their biggest powers can be completely ignored so long as they remain transformed. It's like a universal cheat when it comes to magic.

What makes it "functionally limitless" though is that when they drop their transformation, that Pool of Magic regenerates at an outright ludicrous rate. Something that Magical Girl Summit figured out and proved: a Magical Girl's power regenerates fast enough that simply dropping the transformation, then calling upon it again allows it to fill back up to full in that same instant. It's stupid but useful. The trick though is dropping your transformation just fast enough to keep it from 'timing out' and triggering a feedback effect that freezes its regenerative abilities and knocks you out.

Summit found a way to make a timer in her transformation to let her know when it's nearing time-out so she can abuse that to always remain transformed. I'm so jealous.

Using Infinite Magic To Your Advantage

Now, the whole 'infinite magic' thing above was actually figured out by a small team of Magical Girls that had a big knight theme going on. What they decided to so with it was find a way to unleash all that limit-cheating-magic all at once in order to throw out a really impressive "fuck you" attack at an opponent at the cost of firing off the "feedback trigger" immediately.

It allows you to power up your attack into insane output, but limits it to where you can only use it once before your transformation crashes. It lets whatever spell you use it for to grow really fast, and get far stronger than it has any right to be, but at the same time sucks out all your reserves in order to pull it off. They call their spells V.I.C.T.O.R.Y. and R.E.B.E.L.L.I.O.N., though don't bother asking me what the acronyms are supposed to be. All I know is that nearly nothing is capable of stopping their spells except maybe for each other or an equally strong wave-motion Fuck You.

I know I wouldn't be able to.

But yeah, Magical Girls continue to break the Rules of Magic like they're made of tissue paper. I've got a bunch more info on this from my new research (sitting in a hospital with nothing to do sucks), so if any of you need questions answered, feel free to chime in!

I don't know why, but for some reason this fills me with a strange existential dread that something terrible is gonna happen soon in-story.
