Why would that stop other telepaths from reading his mind? They can read non-telepaths, why not a subconscious telepath?

How did a transformed Pony not born on Earth or affiliated with the Justice League get that so easily?!

The SI took a few seconds to think about it and decided that 'it' was more appropriate.

But at this point OL's power ring is practically just a glorified gun.
How so?

I mean, sure, he has other abilities and equipment now, so he doesn't need to use ring charge to, say, draw a tremendous sigil on the sea in ice, or avarice-port everywhere. That doesn't diminish the ring's value to anyone else. And he still used the rings to eg scan the Earth for Amon. And the tea he served to Konvikt came from his rings' subspace pocket, after which Konvikt used a ring to rebuild a town and heal the injured bystanders.

Just a glorified gun?

What do you mean by this?
That the most effective thing in his arsenal tends to be "Throw bullet at it." That he can drop singularities, and gravity bombs, and massive four point sonic attacks, but at the end of the day, something some disgruntled punk on a backwater planet made in his garage trumps it all. (ALL HAIL THE ALMIGHTY CRUMBLER!) Also, yes I know Paul doesn't like to destroy things

Although, he does make freeze gun constructs so, there is that.

The equipment he carries always seems to be more useful/powerful then his power ring. Alright then, correction. A glorified gun/backpack.

At this point, I perceive magic to be the most powerful force in the universe, with a power ring's only advantage being it's quickness of use. (little study required)

I never read it, but I'm reminded of a fic I heard about years ago where the Shocker pulled a Heel-face turn, and his admittedly impressive vibration tech just stunned the pants off of guys like Tony Stark and Reed Richards with its "amazingingness"

(Edit)

Please understand. I've always understood the whole point of a power ring was that it was so powerful/versatile that you didn't HAVE to carry anything else.

And he still used the rings to eg scan the Earth for Amon
Meh.

And the tea he served to Konvikt came from his rings' subspace pocket
Double Meh.

after which Konvikt used a ring to rebuild a town and heal the injured bystanders.
The dreaded triple Meh.

Just a glorified gun?
Swiss army gun?

Alan nods. "Are you going to take them to China tomorrow?"

I sit back. "Nope! This is a job for the Justice League, or more specifically for the Justice League's Chinese member. Unless I rejoin the team or join the League, not only do I not have to involve myself in this sort of problem, I'm not legally supposed to."
Dang it all.

I wanted to see Paul witness green-ghost Klarion's PROFOUNDLY irritated reaction to the Witch-Hunters and his big sister!

Bad enough he got tricked out of all his power, executed by mortals, and since then, his soul has been enslaved to some eastern hag.

But NOW, people from the very homeland he despised are going to be visiting him and are likely to gloat at his misfortune?

Unbearable.

You know, Oh El has worked very hard to not be ring dependent but he still uses it a lot.

Is just that anti ring measures are so common lately that it just seems to always end in crumbler rounds + magic sword + freeze rays.

Is getting repetitive.

I mean why mere zombies couldn't be binded with construct chains? Grundy is way more powerful than these guys, and unless a power ring killed him, he is not particularly resistant to power rings.

"Make gun to shoot bad thing with special bullet" is a thing, but the ring lets him generate and control a bunch of guns as necessary, which is a major step above simply using a tool. It's doing targeting, repositioning, all kinds of fun stuff to make the gun(s) way more powerful than they would be normally.

Just remembered that the SI does have an additional secret that he could tell Jade, although it's related to the DC thing and I can see why he wouldn't necessarily consider it separate. During the Ambush Bug thing, he saw red Lantern him in Teen Titans while not remembering Teen Titans, and likewise for indigo. So it's very likely that he doesn't have completely accurate information about his current universe not because he had never seen media featuring it, but because he had his memories edited to erase all that knowledge while keeping general DC knowledge.

@Mr Zoat ? Was wondering, was the enchantment on the gun, the projectile (assuming there WAS a physical core), or both?
Was curious if it/they are a once-off design or can be reprimed.
I mean, them only having one shot would make sense- given how much power/durability klarion had I could totally see a group of artificers spending days/years charging single-use weapons that either completely discharge or outright burn out their power structures/ "circuits" when discharging, in exchange for being able to hurt the twisted little maniac...

Edit Godammit that's not It how it works. Imunna memorise the quirks of B.Bcode even if it kills me >.<- err- what is the thingy for directly mentioning a username again? Memory allways goes to hell around 3 AM

It really shows how much an effect Paul has on Jade that she used his ring to make herself more empathetic, due to growing up under her abusive father, and how earlier she was able to feel hope much more strongly. Compared to her canon self who didn't seem to have much empathy for anyone save maybe Artemis and later her daughter, possibly CloneRoy and her mother, or her comic book version who was a psychopath.

Maybe Paul could look into getting Jade a yellow power ring, if she ends up passing on either the Danner or Garrick formula or not, and she could use her previous experience as an assassin to put the fear into criminals especially since she lives in Gotham. Plus not only would she be less vulnerable Paul could recruit more possible lanterns, since his experience with the Fear Thing left him more understanding of his own fears and the fears of others, since it's been brought up multiple time how certain individuals like Starfire feel hope and compassion much more easily than avarice.

But he returns to saying "he" in the following chapters.

The SI doesn't know.

I'm surprised Ol isn't more interested in networking with these guys, by all indications they seem to have a pretty advanced If ideologically problematic spell casting tradition. They may not be useful for getting magic into the mainstream, but someone who can make magical weapons that high end is at least useful to know. For example he could have them swap secrets with another one of his magical acquaintances.

the SI should put them in contact with Sivana Senior.

"...so, it was mentioned you have had some slight problems with the Sheeda, yes? I believe we may have Much to talk about..."

Witches. Not wizards.

There is something of difference in terms of approach, practice and application.

In regards to how the Witches of Roanoke came to be...

Methinks that one or more of Melmoth's "lovers" must have known something of The Craft, (even if none of them were fully witches themselves at the time), and thus might have taught their FAR more potent sheeda-hybrid children what few charms and hexes they had.

And the stories they knew of course.

Tales of those who could conjure and consort with all manner of spirits, whether familiar, unclean, or even with the dead themselves.

Of those who worked such magic enough to raise storms so that ships at sea would be wrecked and their crews all drowned.

Of those who could change their likeness into that of animals and other shapes and forms one dares not think of, much less name.

Of those who could fly, away from harm and hardship, away from toil and trouble.

With the supernatural inclinations and instinctual understanding of the hidden workings of the world available to them, it makes sense that those kids would have had the means and ability to "cobble" together the varied superstitions and practices of their many mothers into workable paradigms, and thusly turn them against their inhuman oppressors when they were grown enough.
