I dropped this from my corrections the first time around because I was ninja-ed, but it was only half fixed:

mild disinterest

What actually happened there anyway? What did OL do exactly?

Did he simply kill the leaders of the religion and remove all of the women from the planet, or did he take any males who genuinely had a problem with the practice as well, or what?
Sounds like he personally killed rather a lot of those responsible - bearing in mind that he can look into their souls and judge their attitudes - and recruited at least two Lanterns, very possibly more, who were quite motivated to off the rest.

Call me a perv, but as someone who has made the gesture that I think Harley just made to someone across the room, I like her significantly more then Jade now. The prison shrink, miming a BJ right in front of her boss and somewhat crush.

I'm almost expecting Paul's rejection to be the thing that puts her over the edge now. Because, well if Joker can whammy someone, then they probably had some serious issue before hand.

But other then that...well I assume that because this chapter happened, that Sportsmaster IS going to get out at some point, and do something. Or...well it WOULD if this were a comic book. Zoat might have other plans.

And thus, the Reverse Shovel Speech was invented...

The Shovel Speech is basically telling someone who intends to court your daughter, "You harm her, I'll be burying you with this shovel". What Paul just did is nearly the exact inverse: telling the father that if he comes anywhere near his own daughter, he's dead. Thus, Reverse Shovel Speech.

I believe that this one is called the bubble speech.

You are ignoring content by this member.
Oh, well, that neatly makes the whole problem a moot point doesn't it? Good on you.

I'm not entirely sure what I've done to offend you here, but if you've got an issue I would appreciate it if you'd actually tell me, rather than sarcasm-ing at me, so that we can work it out in a reasonable manner.

As far as I can see, we were talking about kill count, Death of the Endless was brought up, I mentioned that Paul was talking specifically about kill counts for humans so the Endless weren't actually relevant, and then... something about that offended you? I'm not trying to be passive-aggressive here, understand, I'm genuinely not getting where the issue is.

'the Denarians should be way more powerful than they're shown to be in the books,'

Easy explanation for this: they're always sandbagging because the alternative is Uriel getting awfully smitey. As far as we can tell, the White God and his minions may only act to counter magical attacks upon human agency, and only perfectly in kind. Six words of despair become six words of informative hope. The mass use of Hellfire gets Harry granted the ability to use Soulfire. The White Council trying to unilaterally kill Molly becomes Michael singlehandedly saving multiple members of the High Council, Showing Up, clearly On the Clock for the Almighty, wielding the Sword of Love. We can be fairly certain that, if Nicky and the Nickelheads started going on a superpowered rampage, not only would every Sword immediately have a bearer, but all of them would begin channeling absolutely astonishing amounts of power and making them completely unstoppable. Think Murphy charging through thousands of vampires and absolutely curbstomping all of them, taken up to eleven, but with only a maximum of thirty targets.

So, instead of using their supernatural prowess at every available opportunity, they work mostly in the shadows. Nicodemus has been building up influence, wealth, power, and a cult following for literally thousands of years because the angels can't do a damn thing to stop the mundane humans he employs from making those decisions. They only go full monster mode against people who can magically defend themselves, like Harry, or against the Knights of the Cross. They have learned over a very, very long time that using anything but their immortality and intelligence to accomplish their goals tends to go poorly for them.

I could just tweak my brain to achieve a similar result… But I'm still trying to cut down on that sort of thing.

Damn it Paul, cutting down on that sort of thing is the LAST thing you should be doing... I hope someday Paul gets less squeamish about brain modification. While from an out-of-story perspective there are good reasons not to make him superintelligent (characters FAR smarter than any human are next to impossible to write well), not improving your intelligence AT ALL is just idiotic (On Paul's part, not Zoat's).

I recently finished binge reading this and am curious exactly how long it is so far.

Is there a current word count available anywhere?
Nothing current, but you can go to the storyonly thread, look at how many posts, multiply that by a thousand and you have a minimum.

Minimum 1,625,000 words
I'd say 1.2 or even 1.3 k rather than just 1. Posts with less than a thousand words are far more rare than posts with 1.5 or more.
Thread Twelve alone is nearly a million words. The story as a whole is around 2.14 million words. (The average word count is somewhere in the neighborhood of 1320 words. There are 1625 posts in the Story Only thread.)
Not built into Sufficient Velocity as far as I know, but there might perhaps be third-party tools?

One guideline is that there are 25 posts per page, with an average of slightly over 1K words per post, and we've just started page 66. So, more than 25 * 1000 * 65 = 1625000 words.
I have a word-count in my epubs so:
754.351 + 975.703 + 347.573 = 2.077.627 up to my last update. That is 25 snips ago. So if you consider 1.200 * 25 = 30000 words on those posts the story is around 2.107.627 words.
@Coda was the closest

Link? I'm always down to read more Dresden Files speculation. It's criminally underrepresented in the fanfic-space.
Here you go.
The discussion goes on for a few pages but Ryuugi's point is basically if you take what Lasciel's shadow did for Harry, take into consideration the immoral ways to power that Harry would refuse ('I need to ritually sacrifice a thousand people for this black magic power up? Sure! I wasn't doing anything this weekend!!'), multiply the effects by a fifty* and consider the extra buffs the hosts get anyway(access to hellfire to boost further, combat form, high speed regen, perfect memory, speed up though-processes etc) => any Denarian over 100 years old should be at Kemmler's level

*since Harry only actively asked help from Lash for like 2 years

Oh, and Savage, dependng on what he got up to in his life. What was the cause of Black Plague in DC? If it had a (super)human origin point, that could still be the top mass killing in Earth-16 history.
Well, considering the Bubonic Plague had three separate major outbreaks(1 2 3)(beware of pictures) between 541 and 1959, and still pops up occasionally, if it has an intelligent source here it's probably not human.

Absolutely, I think Harleen would be a pretty cool girlfriend for OL (OI?), and I'd love for them to discuss supervillain rehabilitation with each other. But god, her accent is annoying to read, so I'm pretty happy with OLxJade.

You perv.

Weaponer Compassion?

"I feel so sorry for you that it took so long for me to get around to killing you."
No, no, no. Think about this. A device that can lock down someone's mind to feel only a single emotion? Turn it into a ray and you have a GREAT anti-Lantern weapon. It's basically the Medusa mask, mass-producible and without needing high concentrations of magic, and would probably work even on someone Enlightened, since it doesn't just inspire one emotion, it blocks all others.

What? No "I killed Klarion?"

Also by your own words while not human Klarion did kill millions.
Killing Klarion doesn't prove much. He was about as evil as a villain can get, and couldn't be imprisoned.

The point OL wanted to make is, "I have killed uncounted thousands of people I never even met because I decided it was necessary; I am emotionally capable of crushing you like an insect."

OL didn't kill Klarion. He handed him over to the Chinese, who had Ghost Fox do the deed.

Also, am I the only one who is flat out sick of Waller and her attitude? It isn't OL's fault that her super prison is made of cardboard and her guards are pretty much red shirts.

OL asks out of courtesy. He could probably walk in, and out, of your little prison, and you'd never know. Even without his teleport.

He and his two local recruits killed all of the religion's priests and tore down all of the religion's monuments. Komand'r and Koriand'r were then put in charge by right of force majure.
Paul is starting to remind me of nicodemous of the knights of the blackened denarius in his manner, Nick is intelligent, driven, ruthless, powerful with allies and subordinates. A blackened denarius might not have the same utility of a power ring and the drawbacks are pretty heavy if you cannot control yourself with the cost of 98% damnation but they are incredibly powerful. Paul's really luckycut he got a power ring because despite how terrifying to his enemies he is now I think denarian Paul would be much worse.
Don't Denarians almost always end up outright possessing people who pick up the coins?

Thank you, corrected.

That was Grayven. OL fed him to Constantine.
No...Grayven hacked Klarion's head off on live Television with the sword of the fallen. He handed over Klarion's wizard helpers over to the Chinese.

OL fed Klarion's power to John, and then gave the near empty husk to the Chinese. Said they could have the credit, as long as it wasn't Socialist Red Guardsman. Still...not entirely sure why he didn't want mentioned. Seems like it would be useful for him politically.
