"Transport to antimatter universe in progress."
At first I was a little surprised the Guardians let Paul anywhere near the antimatter portal. Considering that is where they banish lantern who are opposed to the tenants of the Green Lanterns, but want to keep the ring. Basically, prime Orange Latern Recruits.

But, then again they are effectively getting Paul to banish himself, with no guarantee he will survive on the other side (especially when considering his goals).

Depends on context. Being overjoyed that your partner isn't dead is probably violet; same for your child not being dead, parents, people you care about in general. Odds are, the context of being overjoyed is going to sort it into one of the existing emotional spectrums. I can't think of a situation where joy wouldn't be mixed with one of the "normal" emotions. Similarly, sorrow could be violet, yellow, orange, possibly even indigo, depending on context.
My interpretation is that the emotional spectrum is specifically comprised of those emotions that compel one to positive action, rather than ones that merely emerge as reactions. Joy, sorrow, relief, confusion, indifference...they are valuable and important parts of our psyche, sure, but they just don't have the same kind of power to direct the course of a universe through the influence of, say, a dedicated, feeling Lantern Corps. They don't have Embodiments in the same sense because they are generated by circumstance rather than the other way around.

Edit: Essentially, they're called Power Rings for a reason. Protecting your Love or Inspiring Fear or Hope are inherently functions of Power, that is to say, your capacity to affect your environment. Paul said as much in yesterday's chapter, as well. Inspiring Joy, for example, just...doesn't involve the same dynamic. It's a worthy goal; I'm an entertainer myself! But it doesn't really pan out as a fundamental force from which to draw Power, in my opinion. It's analagous to the difference between a Means and an End.

Edit 2: Sorrow/Contrition actually should count, but falls under the aegis of DC-Compassion, by my understanding.

Hmm. Is there any way for the Guardians to simply strand OL over there?

Then, we get an arc of OL, Guy, Ragnar, and Sinestro working together to return back to the matter universe. ^_^

Pity that Paul didn't bring an electrokinetic.

The Qwardians are a cowardly and superstitious lot, someone throwing lightning is enough for them to go "Please don't smite me, oh smitey qwa-angel!"

Which is why the elite warriors of Qward are the Thunderers of Qward, who use their technology to throw lightning like Zeus.

Fun fact- The demons of Qward are the Predators, as in the entity DC later retconned into the embodiment of love.

Someone could probably write a paper about a people deathly afraid of electricity angels while love demons plan their slaughter.

And it shows their mild dickishness that they sent one of their Honor Guard along for the banishment. If they plan on stranding him, Guy may well end up an "unfortunate casualty".

I must say, all of this seems a little reckless.

Paul spent weeks planning his break into a Dominator prison. He recruited back-up uniquely suited to the job. Now he's going to try to bust into Qward, a far tougher target, with a guy he met hours ago.

I think the difference is in the tertiary objective of maximum property damage. He never wanted to actually fight the prison, just crack it open, and he really wanted to extract a specific prisoner unharmed. That took more finesse.

Wait.
His goal is maximum carnage... while attacking a entire planet of evil, in a universe of evil. So no risk of collateral damage...

Maybe he'll finally merge with the Ophidian and show everyone just how powerful she really is.

He says, after Ragnar presumably used long distance faster than light travel to reach the greeny space station.
Not really. In galactic terms it's practically next door.

I'm going to be toning down the stupid. Think 'Syndicate Rules' Qwadians.

Guy didn't bother getting their specific approval. Which is perfectly in line with Corps rules for those of his rank.

The fact that it's made of antimatter doesn't make it evil. Do you think Mr Data from ST:TNG is evil?

I don't remember that episode of TNG, but hey, there are evil parallel universes. Why not a evil antimatter universe?

Well, the evi parallel universe we saw in this fic wasn't actually made of evil people. It's just a few key people who swapped good and bad (so we have Evil Superman and Good Lex Luthor, but the average civilian is basically the same). Collateral damage would still have to be avoided in their case.

That said, this fic has also shown that 100% evil species exists, so maybe the Qwardians count as one.

Just remembering (sorta) something from the YJ canon. Doesn't the whole Jason Todd crowbar-boom thing happen during the timeskip? More than ever I wonder what kind of team Paul is going to come back to...and just how they are all going to react to Paul's absence. Having your most powerful member taking off, and then having some serious shit go down, is generally cause for some resentment.

I could be way off base though.

Especially if that member left on less than glowing terms with some of the bosses.

Of course, if it's "with the bosses" and not "with the team," that resentment easily gets shifted to said bosses for "driving him off." Even if they rationally knew he was planning to leave all along.

I do think interesting stuff will have happened, but I feel like Jason happens later in the timeskip. Paul is gonna pop back to earth relatively soon, IIRC.

So, given that Ragnar is a complete amateur at using his ring, this is basically an escort quest. And not one of the ones where the quest giver runs away when combat starts either. Not only is the guy completely focused on fighting, he is liable to be overwhelmed by the orange ring he has little idea how to use or control, and he thinks he's the baddest thing around and wants to prove it. This seems like an ill considered quest.

I'm not saying not to ever do it, but give him some pointers at least, such as:

1. Unless you have an extremely good reason, do not use melee weapons.

2. You do not have a good reason.

3. Hide behind me at all times.

4. If Guy is smirking, do not follow his advice.

That should let him survive for at least a little while.
