And OL wont end up punching through his facehole and yanking out his vocal cords? Because that's what I feel like doing already. Then again...I'm faced with such utter incompetence at work daily that I really have very low tolerances these days.

Huh...wonder if that's a British thing, or an enlightened Orange lantern who modified his brain thing.

Any sufficiently large community will have fucked up members. Really, the most anyone can expect of the rest of the community is that they occasionally point out that it is fucked up.
It gets worse, but this isn't really the place for me to bring stuff like that up. The Transgendered comment merely sparked it. Moving on.

He knew in advance that Dox would be difficult to work with. And he was expecting a certain amount of distaste to come his way. As long as he dos a good job the SI will probably shrug everything off.

Has OL mentioned the ability to accelerate his own mental processes to Vril Dox? Because I'd guess Coluans can also handle it longer than humans can, and given that OL has accelerated to something like 100x baseline speed...

And if you've got a Controller or a power ring on hand, that requirements can be bypassed fairly easily.
Either "those requirements" or "that requirement"

I think I like Brainiac 5 better than Mr. Dox. But he won't be born for centuries, so we'll take what we can get.

Then again, I was introduced to Brainiac by the animated superman series, so I prefer mine to be pure AI/robot to "coluan," which is a pretty big difference, really.

There is a bit about Dox that might be interesting here.

He invented a brainwashing device the "charisma program" but ultimately rejected using it. His son had no such compunctions so that's how Dox lost control of LEGION.

Well one of the bottlenecks to the orange lantern corps is useful desires.

Dox strikes me as the type to consider the obvious solution is to invent something to change someone's desires.

Not that I'm necessarily suggesting that he'd want to shanghai people like the indigo tribesmen, but he might be open to some horse trading.

"You want that, our priority right now is this. Would you be willing to be made to want to do this first and then you'd get to that with an orange lantern ring?"

Did that term exist in 1989 when the character first appeared?
After a bunch of googling: literally? Maybe: I totally failed to find a decent history of the term. If it was an intentional reference? Probably not... the term "transgender" itself has been around at least since 1966, but I was seeing claims it was not "popularised" until 1993, and seems like the gender stuff was before L.E.G.I.O.N. vol 1 ended in 1994.

In practice I guess you would have to ask the writers, but I didn't see anyone talking about the character at all.

Looking into it some more, apparently Brand in Canon just gets randomly through a space-time anomaly chucked forward in time to the 30th Century so he can be the founder of the Legion of Superheroes. I hope that's been butterflied away - it seems like a really contrived, random, and silly way to strip Dox of his support structure for no plot-related reason.

Not randomly, sent by Glorith the time witch. So arbitrary yes, random no.

That being said, Zoat doesn't seem worried about the legion future.

And even if he does, most versions of Brande have him being a native of the 30th century anyway.

Do you mean "don't use spoiler tags" or "don't use multiple spoiler tags"? I started using them at @Coda's request, but I can stop if you'd prefer.

(Hmm. I've now had negative feedback from a moderator, another reader, the system itself (when I started using spoiler tags, with nothing outside them, apparently that meant my reply was too short), and the author. Thinking of switching to PMs, but maybe they'd have their own issues?)

"Something that might lead to me baking a giant cake?"
He may have been mocking Paul here, but I think the correct answer is, Yes, if you're not careful, the orange light may cause you to bake a giant cake in the air and spin the moon around just so everyone can see the other side and that's if you've first trained yourself to value altruism and cooperation!

To be fair, Paul had a lot of orange light in him. Consuming a energy field larger than your head is bad, consuming a energy field the size of the universe is so terrible that sometimes it overflows back into good and some poor shmuck decides to try it.
