Wait so the race that has been using partial mind control for centuries and can communicate with each other using their implants are told one of their fleets was attacked by a known mind controller (Paul and Felicity was a fairly public issue WEEKS ago, let alone the degree of subtle manipulation demonstrated during the negotiations) and they just allow a ship that was attacked by possible mind controllers to stroll through their perimeter?

Le fuck?

While Felicia's branding might have been in public view, the details likely wouldn't have become known to the Citadellians in general. Since no one in the bridge is glowing orange, there is no reason to assume that the ship had been boarded, let alone that they were ALL branded and then decided to head towards a numerically superior force.

Besides, I doubt the Citadellians would consider what is done to them as mind control so much as mind enhancement, given that they aren't the sharpest tools in the shed without The First improving them.

Paul has new minions. Given his success in growing semi-fond of literal demons (rather pathetic and disgusting ones at that) I suspect these guys should do fairly well out of it. The Controllers should have no difficulty setting up a cloning program for the new Orange servant race, should they want more minions.

Blackfire is acting like a spoiled and petulant child.

Hardly matters. Paul demonstrated the ability to mentally influence others without something as noticeable as a brand, ANY competent non idiot would have taken precautions to make sure the ship isn't a Trojan horse.

Also see again: They aren't the sharpest tools in the shed without The First improving them.

Any plan that relies 100% on the incompetence of your enemies is a stupid plan.

To their experience, 'Orange Lanterns' means The Beast's constructs

Also, the first use didn't hit the limit, there was no auto shut off be the ring, he ended it manually, so presumably there was time left on the clock saved towards the next use.

Other way around, actually; the first use reached the limit, then he ended the second himself.

Mental pathway damage limit reached. Acceleration discontinued.
The universe slows. Really, they should know not to give me audible cues like that.

End acceleration.

Blackfire continues to worry me.

Like, genuine "She needs serious help and not a civilization destroying weapon."

While you are probably correct, I feel like actually agreeing with you would set a bad precedent for me, so instead I'm going to formally take the position of; "There are no mental health problems so extreme that they wouldn't be solved by a civilization destroying weapon." Its even technically true!

Old corrections:

It's possible, but why?

It seems years of daily writing has done a good job of making Mr Zoat a better writer.

Alternatively, each successive Replacement Zoat must hold up-to-or-above the standards of the previous Zoat in order to be plausible, thus causing the average to trend steadily upwards over time.

And if we're honest, I think we'll all agree that my explanation is the more plausible one.

You know with the First Citadellian dead, I just couldn't help be reminded of the option Shep has to reprogram the Geth.

So I figure somewhere in the infinite DC multiverse there is a Paul who sets up a new overriding consciousness to be the new Borg Queen.

If only there was some sort of ruthless alien warlord type around who might be inclined to do that.

Regarding "isn't it an obvious Trojan horse?" I think the "mind control" that is commonly known leaves the victim a blatantly glowing construct of orange light. I do not believe the brands are common knowledge.

I feel like you're talking about Grayven, and I realize you're the author and have the ultimate say in what happens to your characters, but that doesn't seem like something he'd do now. Maybe before.

He used the brand right next to a citadelian admiral and his armed detail, he demonstrated the subtler mind influence techniques for DAYS right NEXT to the aforementioned admiral and his marine detail.

They are a competent military force (supposedly) and that was extremely key intel. This whole plot contrivance is stupid and the only thing that makes it believable is the fact that Citadelians are falling apart without the direction of the first.

Ah, true. Though again, with the death of the First, they supposedly are much stupider now. Not sure how much stupider, though.

"Captain. Admiral Janeway is hailing us again."

"Tell her Unimatrices zero-three through one-four are no longer hostile."

She shakes her head, "She's going to want to know how we did it."

"I'm sure she will, Commander Nerys. Please advise the Federation against investigating. 'Non-hostile' doesn't mean 'friendly when poked with a stick'. It is Lore, after all. But don't tell them that just yet." I hail Engineering, "Seven, how is that Iconian relic cooperating with the reactor?"

"All according to specifications, Captain Underwood."

"Lieutenant Tuvix. Are we within range of the next trimatrix yet?"

"Yes. Though they're jamming the frequencies we've been using. And I doubt they'll fall for the.. What did you call it?"

"Indoctrination."

He smiles, "Yes, that's it. Translink indoctrination. It was very clever, but it won't work a second time."

"Can we reverse the polarity of one of the subspace transceivers? Propagate the virus through the neutron flow."

"..That may work once, but they will adapt. They always adapt."

"Which is why it's so imperative that we act quickly, and get them on our side."

Commander Nerys asks, "Captain.. Do you really think we can trust Lore? He murdered Professor Soong."

"That was years ago. He's better now. Just ask his brothers. Oh, if Admiral Janeway's still there, will you ask her how B-4 is acclimating?"

My enjoyment of another omake from you is undermined by my profound antipathy for Voyager in general and Janeway in particular.
