Surprised only one Controller is waiting at the door and not more. Though I suppose others could be standing by in case of the worst.

This would be impressive if the Ophidian participated in the story outside her Macguffin status. Participating in actions where her presence could help. Readers would be able to more viscerally identify the potency of her appearance through past actions. The huge amount of force she can bring to bear when she chooses. Exemplified by her huge form here.

Instead, this feels like a dog and pony show. 'Look at this embodiment, so mighty and strong...every blue moon because the author is worried about ruining suspense'.

The fuck is this? I legit don't know what you're going for here.
That is the name of the insectoid race that serves the Controllers mentioned in the last update. Well that is what the name sounds like when the race speaks their own language at least.

Pretty sure main reason why the Ophidian is not used often is cause she can't control her own strength most of the time/doesn't think in the right way to keep things controlled.

Also merging with her causes problems thinking as well. She is a double edged sword most of the time and should only ever be brought out in the worst situations.

just a random thought, but the exo-mantle's seem kind of wimpy. I'm not expecting the controllers to be able to be able to match power rings, but shouldn't they be able to match the scarabs the reach use?

Not that i think it's intentional but there is something to be said for teaching the manifestation of avarice a modicum of control. Just because Paul likely could use her all the time doesn't mean he should. Most of the time it's a case of squishing ants with a pile driver.

Of course, there's always the option of improving the exo-mantles by combining them with power-ring tech, but we'll get to that on a later date I think!
Actually it is an important point that access to a Central Power Battery will let the Controllers amp up their equipment in general, not just power rings. It's come up before that the Guardians and Green Lanterns use Green Light-based technology for all sorts of things besides the rings.

The best combat model exo-mantles nearly can. Most exo-mantles are not the best combat model, but more general purpose.

The heavy exo-mantles need a full squad and the element of surprise to usually win.
Heavy Exo-mantles can take on a scarab warrior reliably and consistently with 3-to-1 odds. I imagine 2-to-1 is a bit more iffy, but that means 1-to-1 isn't an impossible fight.

The fight we saw was 1 heavy exo-mantle, several general purpose models, and 1 Lantern vs 1 scarab and a bunch of reach soldiers.

Word of Zoat is that the best Darkstar Exo-suit is slightly less good than a scarab, where you need three Darkstars to reliably take one Scarab.

One Scarab is better than one Lantern fresh out of basic, but in a one on one confrontation, one Paul can comfortably take one Scarab, and it was one Paul and a bunch of Darkstars vs one Scarab and a bunch of Reach soldiers.

EDIT: The relevant quote

"I haven't completely decided yet. Basically, at the moment the best Darkstar Exo-Mantle is slightly inferior to a Beetle. They'd want to engage at three to one to be condifend of winning. Regular Darkstar Exo-Mantles struggle against moderate numbers of regular Reach soldiers, but those aren't really designed for direct combat. A Controller in situ would win against anything other than utterly overwhelming force, but if the Controllers forced a confrontation like that overwhelming force is what would very swiftly turn up. The Reach has a vast fleet but it has a very big empire to protect and no allies. The Controllers have allies but those allies are fairly weak. The Reach fought non-Guardian Maltusians once and has no wish to do so again but they're fairly sure they can isolate Maltus by occupying all neighbouring worlds.

When Orange Lanterns start getting involved everything starts to change, particularly when the presence of the Orange Central Power Battery not only boosts the Controller's powers by makes Controller faction membership more appealing. The Controllers outnumber the Guardians but still represent a very small proportion of the Maltusian population. In combat an Orange Lantern just out of basic would probably be at a disadvantage compared to a Beetle, but would have a much wider range of abilities to draw on. Someone like the SI could engage a single Beetle and expect to win." - Mr Zoat

Finally after 3 and a half years.

I can only hope Paul isn't crushed if the controllers aren't happy to see him. He started to sound like a kicked puppy when they wouldn't respond to him.
