Well. This paid off big time for john. Golden boy eat your heart out.

He just won the lottery. Just needs to make sure he doesn't end up like those few idiots that fucked that up.

I kinda want to read about John and maybe skip OL/Grayven for a while.

Reading this...doesn't really change my previous disappointment. The fight was poorly planned and orchestrated, so many tools that could have been used weren't. Weren't even considered or addressed. I'm ambivalent about Siskin being dead, because we barely knew him, and there's perhaps a chance he could be brought back for all we know.
Then tell us your plan. In order to be fair, you get 8 months to come up with it.

Okay, this stinks of anticlimax at the moment. While I have faith that you'll make other parts of this the actual climaxes of this story arc, this section feels like a placeholder / space maker rather than the emotional climax / relief it should be. Also, the complete and lack of reaction on M'gann / Superboy's parts towards SUPER Constatine and the conversation is... weird. Like, it hurts what's already a very weak chapter. It's not so much bad as it is just an emotionally weak chapter.

I...don't really understand how OL was knocked unconscious? I mean, everyone else was more or less fine, and OL was protected by both his power armor and construct armor, plus spelleaters. If Giovanni didn't get blown up, I don't see how OL was instantly knocked out. Doubly so, since stabbing the mana battery apparently sped the mana drain up even further, so it shouldn't have even triggered a significant explosion at all.

And yeah, this was still a timeskip from the middle of the climax. And I think everyone is feeling annoyed at how anticlimactic it all feels. Like an essential part of the story was just cut out, with no rhyme or reason behind it. The whole thing just feels unsatisfying and confusing.

Speaking as someone who hasn't noticed any of this, could you please elaborate? Or if you already did, point me to where that was?

I'm rather glad that it's sort of an anti-climax. I'm rather wrung out on emotional climaxes at the moment.

Too much magic at once, directly to the soul through his tattoos?
How?

Spelleaters, remember? It should've drained whatever came his way that managed to somehow penetrate both his construct armor and his power armor. And even if that wasn't enough, absorbing mana shouldn't make one lose consciousness, let alone instantly. And if it really was that much mana in the explosion, then Giovanna should have been killed.

Besides, stabbing the mana battery just sped the process of draining Nabu up even more. It shouldn't have even resulted in a major explosion, if that was the case.

Also, if magic worked that way against OL, then he should have been rendered unconscious by any powerful magic being used near him in the past.

Well, that's a Constantine resolution alright. John has a chance to become if not the most powerful, than at least the most versatile mage around, but it's not going to be easy.
You can't honestly believe that the Justice League can contain the Ophidian if it wants to be reunited with its Agent. The instant Pavlos wants anything the Ophidian will react to supply.
Guy has Ion. Guy + Ion + The League > Ophidian on her own. The conflict would devastate the Earth, most likely, but it could be done.

The consequences are going to be interesting. For a lot of people. Adom and the political fallout. John and the "has to harmonize his torn-in-half soul in order to not die horribly" consequences. Jade and "what does my family think of me" consequences, etc.

Not everything in life gets resolved like a story. I like that it went like this, makes it more realistic. Besides, it's only 1.1k words, and he's just waking up and coming to. We're yet to see peoples reactions beyond being hopeful that he's survived.

Side note re:Kon and M'gann not reacting to John. He may not have been noticeable to them.

"M'gann, Kon and Wolf all ceasing all movement."

I get the feeling that we also missed the vast majority of the fallout, too. Everyone's reactions and responses. By the time OL is back up and running, everything will be old news, and none of the reactions will be fresh.

Just...ugh. Months of buildup all down the drain...for what?

....It's over already?

We didn't even get to see Nabu's end!:(

Well, if Paul ever goes into the outer Planes/Realms of the afterlife, I hope we'll get to see where the former Lord of Order got sent to!
Constantine, Lord of Balance/Harmony/Whatever? Well, I didn't expect that.
You SHOULD have if you read his little line on his personal view on the whole, Order vs Chaos in The Books of Magic.
JOHN: Chaos versus Order indeed. I thought everyone had heard of fractals these days. There's no chaos, no order; just patterns of different levels of complexity.
He looks me straight in the eyes, glaring slightly. His eyes are bloodshot and red and gold lights dance in his irises.
As your Witch-doctor, I recommend utilizing the Taoist Qigong "Microcosmic Orbit" technique for a period of time to purify/attune those energies you've absorbed into pure soul/chi/mana, (WHATEVER you call, ugh, "Arcane" energy), and the Macrocosmic flow/spin of the Universal Soul.

That should fix that eye problem of yours RIGHT up! Give you a lovely shade of soul-piercing blue!

Sometimes, the main character isn't a god.

Sometimes, they don't win absolutely and without question. Sometimes, in reality and in very good stories, things go messily. Plans unravel and become chaos, people die who weren't meant to, and outcomes that were not planned for come to fruition.

And that is not evidence of poor writing. That is evidence of realistic writing. Sometimes, reality doesn't follow a dramatic arc. If it did, placebomancy would be real. Sometimes, you get hit in the head just before a dramatic sequence and don't get to see it.

And you know what? That's just the way it is. Deal with it.

No handcuffs is interesting. But no rings tells the true story. He's not leaving Earth for a while.
Or they didn't want him to wake up and flatten the building. They've seen more than enough to realize that orange rings don't need the user to be fully rational to work; if OL woke up still thinking he was in a fight and lashed out things could have gotten messy. Recall how one of his first thoughts was that he might be in an illusion and the fight still going on?

So OL basically just blew up London and killed a good number of his own allies through sheer concerted retardation.

If he leaves Earth immediately after this, he's not coming back, not without everyone immediately trying to put him down like a rabid dog.

I mean, he's obviously not going to leave, since Map will fucking murder him on the spot for doing this to his city, but still.

A malfunctioning beta fork with a sharpened lump of magic just cast the world into chaos, and OL apparently intends to run away with his tail between his legs rather than face what he's allowed to happen. Meanwhile, the Light will be merrily exploiting the situation to undermine the Justice League, so that by the time he bothers coming back, the Earth will be even more screwed.

I'm sure the survivors will appreciate how Paul abandoned them to go beg a race of malevolent alien sociopaths for more power.

And turns out this prediction along with others like this turned out to be completely wrong.

Personally I'm not mad about the climax, just disappointed really, I was expecting more I suppose. Kind of felt railroaded to this ending all thing considered, oh well.

Come on man, the best fights that you've spent months planning shouldn't ever be all out superpowered brawls. They should be over very quickly because you planned to negate all of their advantages and apply your own advantages well.

A well planned assassination.
