At the very least he seems to be turning it towards productive insanity. Like Batman.
No.

No, he isn't, and he doesn't, because Batman - for all that he would be the prize of any psychology study in the world - is actively helping to make it a better place. Thaddeus Sivana, in comparison, takes away. It doesn't matter what, or where, his insanity is productive only insofar as it helps him make others less, whether that other be people, institutions or the world.

That he is also a terrible person on top of that makes it only worse.

"Oh, no, don't worry about that. Some complete lunatic was firing a gravity converter back through the link between the Huntsman and their control centre. Not much left of the place now." He smiles cruelly. "Completely flattened, with hundreds of their people dead."

Oh.

Sivana Senior nods. "Children, I've been doing some thinking."

Their faces fall. Georgia shakes her head. "Dad, no."

Thaddeus Junior's eyes widen. "Say it isn't so."

Luthor, Doom, I am deeply, intensely, almost incomprehensibly sorry (at least relative to how much sorrow I am used to experiencing), but I think I have a new Favorite Supervillain.

One of the best kinds of insane, second only to Yandere. The kind @Jamie Roberts wishes she were

No. There are many kinds of what we would call crazy that have strong positive qualities and Thaddeus Sivana as a character has none of them.

"Positive qualities" are over-rated.

Oh I was thinking about the seemingly somewhat common notion in this thread that Jaime won't end up with the blue beetle scarab.

Of course that doesn't mean Jaime won't end up a superhero.

For example, if he has talent for gaining an amicable relationship with alien parasites, well there's always Blackrock from Metropolis- A black jewel that was originally presented as a technological artifact, then later an alien being that possesses people and gives out such powers as flight, energy blasts, superhuman strength, and resistance to injury.

Or heck Jaime can get even closer, like say being a legacy character for Scarab- An egyptian scarab artifact that gives superstrength, resistance to injury, flight, energy blasts and other magical powers. The costume is even bluish. Despite the fact that Scarab was originally a stand in for Dr Fate in Vertigo, his origin really screams "Khepri took one look at the blue beetle scarab and decided to get in on the magical scarab superhero action."

And if a magical superhero old enough to have served in WW2 needed an apprentice, a guy who's deepest darkest urge is growing up to become a Dentist because they make good money seems like a very valid choice.

Are you serious?
Criminals are a superstitious cowardly lot. So my disguise must be able to strike terror into their hearts. I must be a creature of the night, black, terrible...
Batman's entire self image is built around terrifying the shit out of people and then beating them to a bloody pulp. He literally dedicated his life to taking away people's feelings of safety, to being a living nightmare. He just does it to more socially acceptable targets. If he just wanted to help people he'd have dedicated his life to running charity foundations and wiped out world hunger or something. He's The Batman because he wants people to experience some of the pain he feels.

I'm not saying he's wrong for that mind you, or that he doesn't do a lot of good by doing so, but don't forget his motives are not entirely altruistic.

Nothing can be done about that. For one, Thaddeus is a man who at this point is completely unchained from modern societal terms, except for his family which is arguably nearly as unchained as him. He doesn't see a necessity in making nice with others, and whatever has turned him into a villain has made the concept of 'progress for the sake of helping others' alien to him.

However, that doesn't mean Paul can't point him into more constructive goals.

The entire point of Paul's philosophy on villains is turning villains like Thaddeus and Abra into somewhat productive members of society, even if a bit unhinged, and kick complete monsters like the Joker and Klarion into jail. Or dead, depending on what choice is available. True, Thaddeus is a complete mad scientist, but at least he is a mad scientist that is currently on the side of good. A bit like Kurotsuchi Mayuri from Bleach, now that I think about it.

No, wait, compared to Mayuri even somebody like Thaddeus looks sane and moralistic. At least the man openly cares for his family, unlike Mayuri who is too attached to domestic violence. And bombs. And giant baby-headed caterpillars with poison breath.

So... This should be the moment to throw grant money at him, right? I mean, OL is right there. His whole thing is reforming villains by giving them productive employment. Hook Sivanas with Kadabra (from a different future than Sheeda), give them money (lots of money), involve them in research of truly bizarre and arcane.

Also, current Earth-16 has FTL even outside Sivana's tech - Zeta tubes are a thing, and Dolmen gates are a thing too

In general OL feels missing from the latter part of Sivana's talk.

If I were to guess the realization of just where his attacks on the Hunter were doing plus SIvana's Heel-face turn currently have OL's mind going 'wut?'

give him a minute to recover and he'll probably be offering some under the table aid.

Also.. why am I pictureing OL giving the 'breakup' news to Captain Marvel about Sivana's new nemesis

"Look Captian.. its not you... its them... they've decided to seek out new and different opponents to their mad science....."

I wonder what the Guardians' response to the Sheeda would be? Quarantine Earth so they can't spread? Because they're great and all but they're currently confined to one planet. If they get off Earth though it's an utter clusterfuck on a galactic scale. Or at least it will have always been once the timeline settles.

Not really. Keep in mind SIvanas estimated that a 40-50 year advanced and FTL capable earth would be able to defeat the Sheeda in conventional warfare. So most galactic powers (Hell probably some space pirates!) could probably beat them to, the corp would probably just be overkill.

Hardly a threat worth quarantining Earth over. Especially once they actually learn of the threats existence and add it to the GL database.

Not exactly. Once Humans have FTL they can flee the Sheeda, keeping their technology and knowledge safe so they can rebuild once the Harrowing ends. Actually winning is a little further off.

Ehhh, I don't think he would need it or want it. He has a base on Venus and goes on trips to other stars. He has the whole resource thing down pat. I don't think there is much of anything OL could give him at this point that he wants and doesn't already have.

The Sheeda are powerful enough that Darkseid traded the Earth to them in exchange for Aurakles in the comic books.

They have magic, which was enough to make the Empire of Tears a power. They stole New God technology from Aurakles. They apparently learned how to use the Glow- truth lanterns, emerald giants. They know how to produce an army of Grundys and Chemos.

However, their ambitions are small. Instead of attacking several planets they just attack Earth over and over again.

okay but this isn't information OL has, possibly not even sivanas has. Thus its not going to be intel the Guardians have when this is reported.

"I think I've… We've… Been stuck in a rut, just throwing things at Marvel and the other children. What I saw in the future… The civilisation there is.. contemptible, beyond even the idiots who rejected my inventions in this era. I'm going to rest up for a few days, then I'm going to start building weapons."

They start smiling again.

"And save them for fighting the Sheeda."

And they stop smiling again.
Okay, here's a chance Paul can use to convince Sivana to make a fortune.

Supervillain or not, if Dr. S, (under a nom de guerre more likely), and Paul can convince the world that evil humanity from the future wants the pillage the past...

Well, nothing like the fear of being pillaged, to make someone whip out their wallets!

And besides! Sivana does have a mercantile side!

...Admittedly, one bolstered by egomaniacal aspirations, but he's a work in progress in this fic, so that's understandable.

Really got to point out here that, if the Sheeda have that kind of technology, they wouldn't have concerns about resources. That's like three different post-scarcity tech-bases right there.

So, in a moderately sensible universe like Earth 16, either the Sheeda are utterly retarded in applying what they have, or the Sheeda don't have the tech.

I liked how you teased with a heel face turn, only to reveal that he is actually only concerned with his enemy being too boring and not good enough opponent to push his children to grow.
small steps!
there MIGHT even be a small ,quiet part of him that has been hoping for an opportunity like this.

i know, i know. call me naive/ childishly optimistic >.>

you know, THAT would make their situation (society caving in, so desperate for materials they are plundering THEMSELVES in the past) make ABSOLUTE SENSE.
they dont HAVE any other planets to mine, or pillage depending on their level of despiration.
they dug their own graves, and the Guardians (or ANOTHER Galactic superpower) simply filled it in above them.

I'm guessing it's the former, than the latter.

Remember my theory, regarding there may be a force/embodiment of the "Reed Richards is Useless/Cut Lexington Luthor a Check" keeping humanity from rapid development by Super Science?

In the case of the Sheeda, this theoretical "Suppressor", may very well be acting in the Universe's best interest, to subtly keep those psychopaths bound to one planet.

I'd assume it has something to do with the sun being Wrong. Not so much an issue of them expending the resources as anything that produces resources for living slowly withers away under the baleful gaze of the sun. So they can build weapons all they want but replicators set to create food are destroyed. Or they're just crazy and obsessed with plunder, either works.
