Guess: They are trying to break the Guardian programming on Ma'alefa'ak and turn him into a Burning Martian, with no clue as to exactly what the Burning were actually like.

They apparently know just enough of the truth to screw up, like knowing power rings are associated with the Guardians, but not that OL is an exception. I suspect they are trying to resurrect/unleash the "true Martians" without knowing what that means.

870? What is this? An update for ants?

Joking aside, I'm kind of hoping Teekl works some cat mojo and locks down her chew toy for interrogation. It's been awhile since Paul bypassed the traditional comic book tropes and did the story equivalent of a dungeon bypass.

Seems somewhat hypocritical for a group that seems to have mentally influenced Ma'al to think like a Burning Martian.
Oh most of these groups, real or fictional, have some deeply buried hypocracy they pretend doesn't exist.
Like pol pot and his glasses and university education >.>
Allways so willing to make sacrifices.
But never THEM, never the leaders no......

*checks links*Huh.
So we have a million-year old survivor from a pre-Martian race pulling shenanigans with White Martian dupes.
And he's a sorcerer to boot.

I'm betting he's one of those guys the Guardians stomped right at the beginning when magic users were everywhere; Empire of Tears or something similar.
And it would help explain how the Burning Martians managed to gank the Guardians who were running the Martian project long ago.

Lol, did the Guardians even used rings to mess with the Martians? Sound like good olde genetic tinkering with mind raping/wiping/rewriting, done with da green lightz powered tech of course, but that is more the Guardians using that in everything rather then waving a green ring of magical bullshit over their ancestors. Wonder how much the Martian Klannies think they know compared to what is really happening. They seem to be arrogantly thinking that whites were the superior Martian way back when and that the Guardians raised the primitive Reds above them. Or I am reading too much into it.
Maybe it was just me, but I found this update hard to follow...
Its the switching between who is talking/telepathy. Other then OL, everyone is in the quotes or ** and they talking right after the other with no indication on who of the half dozen persons that are there talking. Inserting some words/lines/dialogue like **xx** from Martian, A or **XX** broadcasted Martian B, "XX" said Kon or something like that.

You see, this is why when that last Burner showed up I was arguing that the Guardians should have exterminated them down to the last: clearly, the things still aren't sufficiently dead yet, ergo the Guardians didn't go far enough in handling them.

On a related note: salting the earth upon which your enemy once lived so as that nothing can ever grow there again (thereby preventing future generations from regrouping) doesn't work as well if you build your enemies enormous subterranean habitats to live in instead!

I suspect quantity of knowledge is less of an issue here in comparison to quality of thought. Specifically the inability to understand that their first guess as to what it all means might not be fully correct.

You could probably hand them a full history and it wouldn't change their minds.
"See! See! This part here supports us!"
"But the rest..."
"Is less important than this part because this part supports our views!"

Yes, but if you make sure to set bombs in the enormous subterranean habitats, you can wait until any remaining survivors move into them and then blow them all up.

Which still leads to the fact that the Guardians really dropped the ball on this one.

They didn't have the rings yet, it came up in the episode with the Guardian ship with the Burner on board.

Possibly. Or it might be that OL won't be able to specify what to scan for, given that Martians are rather protean. Unless he already did a medical scan on Züm, which I don't think he normally does to people, she could quickly change her shape enough that a scan wouldn't find her.
It came up earlier, he's been deliberately avoiding internally scanning the Martians in an attempt to be polite. And yes, without a scan of whatever Martians use for genes I doubt he can find her.

Seriously? No branding her pronto? The situation is dire enough that asking questions to a terrorist who is in no way guaranteed to answer honestly and has shown to be talented at lying and distracting is downright stupid.

Tired of Paul's incompetence when he's supposed to be genre savvy.

Branding is a violation of a person's soul, not exactly quick under normal circumstances and she was his prisoner. If you want an SI who's a dick I suggest the Renegade sections.

Violently killing multiple innocents seems like a much, much greater violation of a soul than a temporary branding. She's an important source of information during a crisis where people's lives are at risk.

And while I read the Renegade sections, and believe they had significant merit (and still do), it's not possible to take them seriously since a few months ago. You titled the episode 'Fool's Canon' for a reason.

He was perfectly willing to do it to Cobra cultists and they hadn't tried to blow up his friends. Also why didn't he break out the anti-magic gear when she said they were using sorcery? Even if he didn't believe her having mage slayers loaded and anti-magic manacles ready would have been a wise precaution to take.

Paul sitting down across from a captured attacker. Just stares as the wards and jammers continue their work.

"You'll get nothing out of me."

"I dont have to."

*takes out a subspaced jerry can. Begins splashing it around*

Wait that might be more renegade...

Though somehow I expect a

"Green Lantern's aren't supposed to do that!"

"I'm not a Green Lantern."
