See that's why you go for the assimilation for the get go, if it doesn't work you can just cut it off. Branding on the other hand, keeps an active connection.
Assimilation is irreversible, and leaves you permanently stuck with whoever you just Larfleezed.

Are you really doing this again? Giving Paul a major disadvantage so he doesn't curbstomp everything?
Lanterns, man. They aren't perfect.

Not cutting. With two pick hand motions I pull the rings from my fingers and back the heck up. The beams cut off and the Demon takes the opportunity to pose as dull orange oil covers its flesh, sigils shining through the murk from underneath. It exhales and a cloud of orange wafts from its mouth.

I put the rings back on. Rings, what's the damage?

Thirteen percent remaining.

Ooooh poop.

Power drain again?

I know its a great way to make the fight interesting, but seriously this is feeling like a one trick pony show...

Oh, yeah. Demon Constantine works for Satanus, who joined the Light, which means the Light has a Demon Constantine.
FUCK.
The operative term there is Demon.
And demons are never trustworthy. A Demon Constantine, with the worst parts of his nature?
Watch for the pyrotechnics.

Looks like time for Mage Slayers and Crumblers.
Or would be, if Zatanna hadn't mentioned they might not be demons.

If I was going to fight a lantern, I'd start by draining their power too. It's not a cheap out for Zoat; rather, it's a sign that OL is up against a credible opponent who has done their research.

See, this is a situation where it would have been a good idea to practice non-ring based combat. I hope he's learned that lesson after Fawcett.

Am I a bad person for hoping that Paul loses access to his rings long enough that he'll be forced to look into some other method of enhancement?

Just... sorry buddy, you've got to go look into alchemical enhancement/Avarice Magic/godly empowerment/that fancy scarab.

Also, let this be a lesson as to why we don't invoke Eris before a battle, mmkay?

Well, that's not good. Someone was definitely prepared for him.

How come Grayven never runs into these power draining guys?

I mean with the sheer number Paul has encountered you would think the guy would have happened upon at least one of them. :p
Probably the same reason that Grayven isn't running into scry wards everywhere; he hasn't had as big of an impact.

Typo I think:

"They didn't set off my ward. Anything as magically powerful as a Demon should have done."
"done so"; I think it's one of those American/British phrase differences.
