Shepard Quest Mk VII, Age of Revy (ME/MCU)

The research system is complicated and sometimes there isn't really a choice but to accept a higher level of overflow then designed.

Speaking of which however I noticed a couple things while re-reading the system while writing this post. So I need to revamp it anyway and I think if I'm right I'll be able to reduce wastage and possibly squeeze in some more tech.

@tri2 - So Revy, Gaven Dor, Mordin, and Shatom are all based out of Mindoir (although I'm not sure about the last one) but Hwan is based out of (IIRC) Elysium. Are research heroes restricted to using just the Labs on the planet they are based out of or can they use any of our labs?

Also can multiple labs can work on the same project (for example Hwan + Lab I + Lab I)? If so I'm guessing the Research Hero only benefits from the Lab's bonus once (So [150 * 1.85 + 50 * 1.85 + 50 * 1.85] rather then [150 * 1.85 * 1.85 + 50 * 1.85 + 50 * 1.85]). Would that be correct?
Yes, use lab on planet they are on
multiple labs can be assigned to same project, but only the lab being led by hero unit can do skill rank locked research project
so hwan + 2 lab 1 for mech 5meter project
but hwan +1 lab 1 only for say dreadnought project.
hero units can only supervise so many people after all.
plus too many cooks in the artisan's kitchen and all that.

I mean we totally could spin off a QEC communications subsidiary, but it's take a lot of startup. That gets into national military necessary infrastructure. It'd need a lot Revys genius innovation to get around the limitations of one to one pair only comms, but it's very valuable.

But like how we were generous with genetic treatments, it gets wildly impractical to try and do it for all of Council space rather then just the SA, and it's the kind of infrastructure we want as it gets around the reapers mass effect specialty and military dominance to allow for communications after the destruction of the comm buoy network.

So I think we'll need to reach out council partners to proliferate it in non-human space.

How come Arc Reactors come in Industrial and Dreadnaught sizes? Doesn't their power scale linearly?
think that was just more hardware issue, connections to fit cities and giant ship power systems compared to say a single power armored designed for it in mind already.
plus was before me taking over so not quite sure.

l really like UberJJK plan for the most part only exception being Spend Time With [Liara]. l really hate this idea l have no problem with actually going and catching up with her but to romance her .....please no

I'm also not super down to deliberately try to romance Liara so early. I mean I like her, but I think it'd be better to spend time with her let something like that develop organically.

Also we should fund her next expedition sometime. The war is pressing but we shouldn't forget.

Transiting to a distributed power system is a design challenge in some ways, but it should actually lead to cost savings overall - you don't need to worry about maintaining electrical power conduits that way. Otherwise we're... literally stuffing a bunch of arc reactors into a trench coat and calling it an 'Industrial' or 'Dreadnaught' reactor. :V

@UberJJK What do you think of liasing with the SA military and effected colonies about building more defenses on at-risk colony worlds? Probably not as extensively as we did already given how that was paid for by a windfall of Eezo, but perhaps we could make a business model of 'send in Paragon troopers to secure the planet for a quarter, then send in the builders to construct the necessary GUARDIAN emplacements, then set up camp as the new largest employer on the world'?

Also, I'd like at least one Hammerhead for our PMC to play with, and @tri2 are we allowed to buy war bonds, or is the SA not doing that right now?

Whew; that is a lot of Research.

@tri2 - Some quick questions;
1) Where would a vote to get Hanar/Drell assistance for curing Kepral's Syndrome go?
2) For Personal Mass Effect Small Arms we can in fact afford Arc Reactors since Gen II Arc Reactors scale down to 1MW for 3 credits and 0.000015 Production (market price of 6.9 credits). The actual concern would be that personal scale weaponry probably can't handle 1MW of power; or maybe it can?
3) Would you mind double checking this to make sure it complies with all the rules? I don't think I've missed anything but it is a somewhat complicated system.
4) Since this is a pretty large vote, not everything is interdependant, and people have strong feelings about certain parts how do you feel about breaking things up into four sections to make it more accessible? I was thinking Paragon Industry Actions, Spare Time, Paragon Industries Research Allocation, and ParSec Deployment 2174-Q4. None of those four sections particularly interact in such a way as to require monolithic plan voting and areas like Spare Time or ParSec Deployment are probably more accessible to regular players compared to something like Paragon Industry Actions.

@CyberEnby - I was going to dump all the RP I freed up by rejiggering things into curing the Drell, since they are an 800RP project, but it turns out neither that nor curing the Quarians is actually available right now. We need to go out and recruit assistants before we can start work on them.

That's unfortunate. Could we instead do both Peak Salarian and Peak Turian at once?

That's unfortunate. Could we instead do both Peak Salarian and Peak Turian at once?
Almost. After ICS and MEW we have 720RP remaining which isn't enough to complete Peak Salarian (800RP). For something like the Drell that would be worthwhile to easily complete it next quarter. For Peak Salarian well it is almost certain to get chosen as Mordin's primary project next quarter so there isn't really the same benefit.

As a side note I went and looked up what exactly the Dream Entertainment Drugs do since I mostly picked that because I had 100RP left over and damn it is amazing. Seriously that Tech Description doesn't do it credit compared to:
Either there was a mistranslation or it's a case of aliens being aliens, but the Litinana when asked for entertainment media sold you several cases of drugs, complete with a full technical sheet. The drug puts the brain into a an altered state much like sleep. While in this state the brain enters a sort of maintenance mode, repairing, healing and similar things. The use also experiences a series of enjoyable dreams. Doses can be dialed for up to twelve hours of effect, after that the body purges the chemicals too quickly, barring toxic levels.

As far as a few tests and the technical documents show the stuff is perfectly safe unless you drink a few liters. It's not chemically addictive, though possibly psychologically addictive. You'd need a different version for Quarians and Turians it does funny things to their brains. All told it could be used a safe recreational drug or a medication.
Even if it behaves exactly as it says on the can that is basically the perfect sleeping pill delivering nice dreams, dialable sleep duration, and safe from overdosing. Depending upon the exact mechanics it could also be an excellent anesthetic rendering operations significantly safer*.

*There would still need to be a qualified anesthesiologist to handle the paralytic drug levels since that can also kill you but it would remove one of the factors from the equation.

Hmm, if we're looking for stuff that will give us an edge against the Batarians, why not go for Battlefield Analysis VI instead? It's software so we'll be able to instantly roll it out to the SA military compared to hardware which will need to be manufactured. The SA is already well versed in VI usage, and it sounds like it would apply to both space and ground combat.

tri2 do you have any plans for the merchants and laser tag omakes? if not can l trade them in for 50 reserch points each and if so l let anyone use them freely this turn?

I thought about that but I think our VI would be superior once we've got Improved Computer Software and can write them in the new language. So I'm holding off on grabbing any, for fear of having to rewrite them, until next quarter at which point I plan on going for all we can afford.

tri2 hasn't got around to answering this but since it is getting close to bed time and we only have 9.5 hours until the vote closes I'm going to throw these up for those interested.

I made sure to provide some good coverage on Research since that can be kinda a pain to calculate but I figure other people can come up with ParSec and Spare Time plans on their own. Just remember to include the [ST] and [PSD] tags at the front to ensure your vote is properly sorted.

Edit:
Just had to make some changes to ensure things play nicely with the vote tally system. For anyone voting for one of my pre-made plans don't worry if there is "Proposed" in the plan line. That only discounts the vote from the first poster (IE: me) so you don't have to remove it for your vote to be properly counted.

A whole week for voting? Alright I guess. I dunno, Uber's plan seems fine to me, but we can talk more about details and future goals.

Like, do we actually want to build a secret deep space base, and run the risk of getting caught?

What do we want to do with the proposed planet? Turn it into Cadia or Reach? Ok that would be pretty awesome, yeah. If we want to do that I say we find a world on some strategic bottleneck in the relay network between Earth and as many other connections as possible. Doesn't even have to be garden world, in fact, I would be fine with terrrafroming a rock into a proper death world, like Cadia, with engineered flora and fauna. We can go set up a lab on Tuchanka for inspiration and start from there! Finally get to do something with the Science Council, make some kind of deal.

Imagine the memes!

But what would we call it? Cadia, Reach, Armageddon....Thermopylae!

Make that one quests Avernus look docile by comparison.

Alright, it'd probably be super illegal to genetically engineer a death world but I can dream.

Actuaria Colonial Transport Craft (+50 RP to ship research of your choice)
OK, I decided to make a cargo ship:

Actuaria - Colonial Transport Craft

I'm going to preface this: I know it's ugly. This is SketchUp, I'm just using it to get a rough feel for the layout. I have done literally nothing to make it pretty in any way. Consider this the 3D equivalent of a shitty MS paint diagram.

From left to right:
The SR2 for scale.
An Actuaria in it's space-borne configuration with the tug section at the top, the habitat module underneath, and the cargo truss under that.
An Actuaria a's tug with a cargo container slung underneath in it's space-lift configuration. It lands like a rocket and the engines are up top for both stability and to not destroy the landing field.
A cubic volume equivalent to what a 20 000 TEU modern cargo ship can carry. This vlume is what highly developed planets would be trading, but because both repulsors and arc reactors scale lineraly, there's actually no reason to build a ship this big instead of just making 81 Actuarias.

Transatmospheric Cargo Carrier
A self contained propulsion bus/tug that can be used for both spacecraft propulsion system and heavy space-lift provider. The use of arc reactors and repulsors allows for higher thrust to be obtained for the same cost, leading to a greater practical mass that can be landed on a planet. The Actuaria can thus readily set down large 10 by 10 by 10 metre standard cargo pods in rough field conditions of the frontier of colonization. The elimination of the need for shuttles to ferry cargo to and from the surface of a planet cuts out a major barrier to the flow of goods to and from developing colonies, while on further developed planets an Actuaria can be assigned to full time orbital lift duties.

Modular Lightweight Cargo System
To maximize ease of loading and unloading, the Actuaria is designed to haul standardized 10x10x10m cubic cargo pods in a truss support structure. As the structure is largely under tension while under thrust, the structural mass is minimized, increasing the ship's payload fraction. When in orbit, the tug can detach from the rest of the spacecraft, extract a relevant cargo container from the truss, and deliver it directly to the surface. The drop-and-go nature of such a system eliminates the need for specialized cargo handling a infrastructure at the destination, allowing smaller colonies to take advantage of a higher standard of shipping.

Reduced Vulnerability to Pirates
The combination of repulsors, arc reactors, and multi-core FTL allows the Actuaria to traverse space faster than traditional cargo ships, generating more profit per unit time. The reduced need for FTL drive discharges also means that Actuarias need to make less stops en-route to their destination, raising the costs of piracy significantly by both reducing the number of times a vessel is vulnerable to engagement, as well as making it easier for military craft to patrol the reduced number of way points.

Lizardtail Escape System
The core systems of the Oneraria are housed in its tug section, and to a lesser extent the space-borne habitat module where the crew spend their time while underway. In the event of catastrophic damage or imminent takeover by pirates, the tug module can detach from the rest of the ship, and thus freed from the mass of it's cargo, accelerate at truly breathtaking speed to evade its pursuers. Though the loss of the cargo is unfortunate in this case, the preservation of the ship's crew and core system (where the bulk of the ship's capital costs come from) is far less financially damaging to the ship's operators than the loss or ransom of the vessel itself.

@UberJJK can you make an alt plan, that doesn't have Liara romance? It seems quite a few people don't want to vote for that. Other than, the rest of the plan seems fine. I guess we can have a social to see how Jack is settling in with the 'rents.
