Shepard Quest Mk VII, Age of Revy (ME/MCU)

Because dismantling their entire purpose for being works better?
Spreading a bunch of colonies won't really make racism go away, they will just adapt their rhetoric to appeal to the new voter base. And again, what do we care about the inner workings of some earth-based party when we can drown them in donations to their opponents if they are ever stupid enough to go against our interests? We practically own large parts of the SA as is.

Not the hardliners, I'm talking about the people who vote earth first because they live on earth.

The hard-line anti colonials won't leave and we don't want them.

Imagine if we have what, 20 colonies and we are able to move around 10 million people to them each over a year?
My point is that our existing colonies likely can't handle an extra 10 million people at all let alone each year.

Perhaps looking at colony growth will help convey this better. Here are humanity's million-plus population colonies (including the ones inside Sol) and their growth rates (from founding to 2183 when the pop figures are mostly from) ordered by age:
  1. Luna (2069): 4.1 million over 114 years = ~35k/yr
  2. Mars (2103): 3.4 million over 80 years = ~42k/yr
  3. Trident (2144): 6.8 million over 39 years = ~174k/yr
  4. Terra Nova (2152): 4.4 million over 31 years = ~142k/yr
  5. Eden Prime (2152): 3.7 million over 31 years = ~119k/yr
  6. Benning (2153): 2.3 million over 30 years = ~77k/yr
  7. Bekenstein (2158): 5.4 million over 25 years = ~216k/yr
  8. Elysium (2160): 8.3 million over 23 years = ~360k/yr
  9. Joab (2171): 21.5 million over 12 years = ~1,792k/yr
Luna and Mars being outliers is understandable given they were colonized in the really early days (pre-Eezo) and are fairly hostile locations so slow population growth fits. Our various post-FTL but pre-Contact colonies (2148-2157) all grew fairly consistently at around one or two hundred thousands per year which fits since they would have been founded with the Alliance's pre-Contact tech. Our post-Contact colonies grow significantly faster in the two to four hundred thousand range which fits with them benefiting from post-Contact technology.

Joab is a bit of an outlier but honestly it is that in general; the planet's description:
Joab is a two-mooned habitable planet that is most well known for its mass extinction event. Thousands of years ago, Joab was home to a primate-like spacefaring civilization as well as abundant flora and fauna. However, this can only be deduced from time capsules put into the ground well outside habitation centers -- all cities and detectable dwellings were targeted in a massive orbital bombardment that turned them into vapor. The resulting dust shroud killed all photosynthetic life and all fauna dependent on it.

Today, humans have recolonized the planet and are rapidly introducing their own species, beginning with cyanobacteria and heterotrophic bacteria to bring a suitable level of oxygen and nitrogen for respiration.

TRAVEL ADVISORY: Atmospheric pressure at sea level on Joab is double that of Earth. Visitors with upper respiratory infections, emphesyma [sic], cancer or a history of thoracic surgery should consult their physician before landing on Joab.
does not at all fit with it's massive population. Honestly I'm fairly confident that population has to be an error. Like its more habitable then Mars since you don't need a pressure suit but given we are explictly terraforming the atmosphere to have the right mixture of gases you clearly need some sort of oxygen supply to be outside. Having more then double the population of our various garden worlds despite that just doesn't make sense.

Joab tangent aside it is pretty clear that the Alliance's colonies can handle (low) hundreds of thousands of immigrants per year not millions and certainly not ten million. So if we want to get migration off-Earth up above the couple million per year level I've been talking about we'd need to:

A) Change the colonies in whatever manner is necessary to handle 100x their current growth rate.

B) Establish 1,000 new colonies.

C) Some combination of the above two.

What about improving/founding more (non-Earth) Sol-based colonies? Surely it's faster to move people in-system (and less of a security risk) then out along the relay network.

Still a bit too close to a single basket but it would certainly help.

And full system infrastructure would increase how quickly the colonies could expand.

Not the hardliners, I'm talking about the people who vote earth first because they live on earth.

The hard-line anti colonials won't leave and we don't want them.
Wait, so if the hardliners aren't the problem them what is even the point of doing this at all? Yeah, people vote in the interests of the place where they live, how does that impact us? Why do we need to artificially induce such a massive exodus from earth?

There's no one real big reason, but a lot of little ones.

Spread our population out, improve overall living conditions, dismantle the terra firma party's legitimate components and issues without adhering to their tenets, encouraging further expansion and build up outside Sol, general flexing, potentially wanting to do things with Terra that will be easier with less people around.

Feels like it should really be pointed out that you are basing things off of previous capabilities of SA space instead of current ones that have been improved thanks to our tech along with vastly improved infrastructure. Just look at how much construction drones an construction VI improved our ability to build up. Another thing to consider is that SA's economy is far superior to it's canon version thanks to the advanced tech. Meaning our capabilities are far higher than canon which means it should be easier to do things like move people and upgrade colonies. Especially since again we can probably design an economic VI/AI to help with such things.

Why is spreading our population out in such an artificial manner important? Why is dismantling Terra Firma in such an expensive manner better then just funding their opponents, especially when they can easily adapt their rhetoric to the new situation? If we want to improve living conditions what is stopping us from just doing so on earth itself?

I must admit that I don't quite get the current debate over arcologies. Isn't it enough to put it to market and let SA, local governments and private enterprises decide what they need?

Colonial Construction Inc.: CCI has been massively expanded in terms of manpower and capability with all your new offices, supervisors, foremen, transport ships, raw materials, drones, and VI's. The sheer amount of work they can handle now is astronomical compared to before and their rate of completion blows their previous works out of the water with the inclusion of a 24/7 drone workforce and the ability to nearly instantly train anyone for any position with just a quick change of a chip, well those willing to undergo the surgery anyway. Not everyone is willing to get their heads cut open just so they could get access to a higher paying job.
This is something that I've been thinking about after looking at the current in real life issues with vaccine hesitancy. In real life today you have numerous people that are completely against vaccines due to fear of them eve during a global pandemic with a deadly virus going around. Convincing people to undergo surgery to have a strange device that is able to download data and information straight into their heads seems like it would realistically turn off many, many people to the idea. Just look back at people in thread bringing up possibilities of how it can be abused in horrific ways.

It would especially be bad for the poorer nations and places with lower education. It also seems like there would be issues from people who are not just against such implants but them being against other people taking them. This just wouldn't be about some bullshit conspiracy theories but the real issue being that those people would be justifiably worried about needing to compete with people who could just download skills into their heads. Making it seem like they have an insanely unfair advantage against people who are against having their heads opened up to receive implants.

Which is most likely not going to be helped in the least with our black box tech. So can see a lot of protests against this from across Earth. Leading to issues with trying to implement it on as wide scale as it could be.

For the people willing to go through the surgery imagine only something like 10-20 percent of the population actually being willing to go through with the procedure for numerous reasons. We'd likely need to wait years or even decades for the number to increase significantly from people getting used to idea of them. Which isn't really an issue for PI since we can just recruit from the people that are willing which would at the least still number in the millions.

also remember that only your company has access to the new tech you have developed, so things like construction drones and such are not available to the rest of the Alliance.

A most interesting thought struck me today.

I was doing some reading on the social effects of various advances for an unrelated game, and I stumbled upon this book called Future Shock, which describes a process by which "the accelerated rate of technological and social change leaves people disconnected and suffering from shattering stress and disorientation". And that got me thinking, we have been doing a TON of revolutionary advances lately. Have we induced anything like this?

well mainly to the scientific community, and some in the military? and probably alot among pirates?

Hmmmmm. Well then, why don't we take some of our research into these areas? Surely the average person ought to feel the changes we are bringing about as well.
only things that are prevalent to people are dream drugs, arc reactors, and peak human treatment, and the latter two are pretty out of sight out of mind for most people. The dream drugs are the only thing and it is not earth shattering to what people consider their world view.

Well, for now. But we can invent more stuff that will be relevant to people.

Don't think it's actually that big an issue for canon ME since they are already at a high tech level. Humanity especially just officially met aliens around 30 years ago. Basically people are already used to a bunch of crazy stuff, epecially since they have been upteching by tech trade from other races since after first contact.

We do have tech like omni tools and arcologies. Not to mention other stuff like terraforming.

There was a "massive space station" research option unlocked through an omake too though i dont see it in the research document so i imagine that building massive space stations would benefit the average person.
