FFIX where Zidane is in a funk but then the other party members snap him out of it.
They helped him snap out of his funk because throughout the first part pf the game he was the one who helped them snap out of their funk. Zidane is this really friendly, really cheerful guy who is the glue that bonded them together. Yeah he may be a pervert he may got a lot of snark but when the others were in trouble he just smiled and help them out.

Vivi was questioning his existence and Zidane was the one who convinced him that being originally a battle puppet does not matter. Dagger was insecure of her worth as a princess and he's the one who encouraged her to be more confident. Quina because Zidane able to accept her/his weirdness with zero fuss. Steiner have issues with him but he helped Dagger out and he finally able to get past Zidane's peasant status after a while. Freya is comfortable with Zidane because they are old friends and Zidane actually cared about her quest to find her mentor. Eiko likes Zidane, nuff said.

After all the effort he put into helping them overcoming their issues, suddenly his own issues came up with Kuja and Garland and the whole 'he's actually an alien' which put him into questioning his own purpose. For them to actually help him back is pretty logical by that point because they are all indebted to him so why not helping him to get over his issues?

It's not so much 'Power of Friendship' from the get go as it is a natural progression of the plot. Don't you want to help your always cheerful friend who had supported you during your darkest hour overcome their problems?

I can't really say about the other FF installment but I gotta say FF9's 'Power of Friendship' is not just a tacked on theme as it is part of the plot progress. Without him around the whole plot would have died off by the Forest. Dagger would certainly incapable of moving on with Steiner around as he will inevitably drag her back to Alexandria or alerted the troops with how loud the guy can get.

I realized recently that, while it may annoy me, I don't care too much if some of my favorite games sell out with fan service if the plot, characters, and gameplay are still good.

This mostly comes from Fire Emblem Fates and, to a lesser extent, Awakening. I love the gameplay of Conquest and would be incredibly happy to have more of it if the story was better and certain characters, Camilla, had actual character without any of the rest of the art design changed.

If Nintendo has to do the same with, say, Metroid to make it profitable enough to produce, I'll be more annoyed with video game fans than the company.

Second unpopular opinion from going into NG+ of DS3, Dark Souls isn't hard, it's just frustrating to play at an aggressive pace.

I don't think Fallout: New Vegas is a better written game (or a better game in general) than Fallout 3. I'm not going to say Fallout 3 is a great game, or some paragon of exploration or RPGs (many other games do one or both of those things better), but how it facilitated the exploration of the world is miles better than New Vegas, in that it actually puts the player into a situation where the expected answer is to go out and explore. Moriarty extorting caps as part of the main questline is eminently logical given the man's character. Sure it doesn't give time or space to put forward an introduction like New Vegas' trip around the center of the map does, but I found that sequence to be stupid, ham-handed, and boring, with the end result being that I found all of the factions to either be incompetent boobs , or so fucking sanctimonious that when the stupid Revenge Western premise ended and I was thrust into an even dumber Kingmaker plot, I was totally done with fucking everyone, and wanted to throw the Platinum Chip into a fire and leave Nevada entirely.

Steam's website is utter garbage. All I want to do is comment in their forums, yet they make email verification impossible via their very unclear instructions.

EDIT: apparently I need to download Steam to get the stupid Email, so there goes my interest.

So is there any point in responding to you, or are you just going to vomit up other people's opinions because you're too stupid to argue the point yourself?

The stuff Hykal linked is a bit hyperbolic about NV. It's not the best game ever written. It's incredibly well written but not the best. It vastly dwarfs FO3 in every way however. Writing and gameplay wise.

Like gameplay wise?

The map is more varied and interesting. There's different climes. There's landmarks that you can navigate by. You can navigate without the map in NV. FO3 is a near flat plain with crap randomly dotted on it. Stuff also makes way more sense.

The enemies? Way more variety and quality in NV.

The weapons? NV vastly surpasses 3 in every way. The variety, the feel, the tactical options, the looks. And the sounds. Goddamn did the gun sounds in 3 suck.

The combat? So much more fun. DT did so much to counter the Bethesda hp sponge nonsense.

The writing? I'm unsure how this is even arguable. FO3's plot is garbage and full of shit that makes no sense and tons of arbitrary shit. NV's core plot, works and has a core theme that makes sense and even then offers you the option to reject it. The only characters in FO3 memorable enough for me to remember are remembered for annoyance or stupidity. NV? Tons of good characters. A few wet farts but even they were better than the cardboard FO3 foisted on us.

This sounds a lot like a tacit admission of 'Okay the core game is uncompelling but the loooore' to me.

As the guy who coined that joke I feel obligated to point out that you're pretty severely misusing it.

"But the lore!" is a mockery of Watsonian defense against Doylist criticisms (It's unrealistic for black people to be in this fantasy setting because neeuurrrr). The post Hykal links is an argument that New Vegas' experience is not spoonfed to the player like Fallout 3, but left for them to explore and claim ownership over. You can disagree with that, but it would help if you didn't misinterpret the position right off the bat.

I actually prefer a lot of NV's game mechanics to those implemented in vanilla Fallout 3. The damage modifyer and perks to allow easy maintenance of firearms and armor were essential in my eyes to elevate combat to something vaguel playable without VATS.

There's no need to be rude about things.

But to explain my position to you and the fellow below:

This sounds a lot like a tacit admission of 'Okay the core game is uncompelling but the loooore' to me.

New Vegas is one of the best RPG made in the last two decades. It sits up there with Witcher 3, Undertale and Trails in the Sky.

It is, hands down, the best Fallout game ever made.

It has excellent lore, amazing characters, and most importantly, freedom. Freedom to influence the politics of the land. Freedom to become a master melee puncher or a savvy talking demolitions expert. Freedom to become a living legend or a true terror.

The dialogue is better. Gameplay mixed amazingly well with stories. The game is a breathing living world. And unlike FO3 or FO4, the quests are actually very complex and varied. With multiple ways to complete the better designed mission and coming up with more results.

You say the game railroads you? It's entirely possible to run to Vegas before hitting level 3. You say the game is barren? No, the locations are actually well hidden.

New Vegas is one of the best games ever made and you do a disservice to yourself not to play it till the end.

Right, sure, because 'The main questline is uncompelling but if you follow sidequest chain #36 to the end you get to watch a dude cry' is a completely different thing.

Don't get me wrong, I liked New Vegas well enough- But saying 'This game is better because you've got to fight with it in order to get character development and interactions, rather than having them spoon-fed to you in the main quest line' is a shitty fucking defense. Imagine that defense in any other medium. "Oh, sure, Anime X is boring if you only watch Anime X, but if you watch Side Series Y at the same time it becomes way more interesting." "This book is boring, but the author wrote canon fanfic from the perspective of a bunch of side characters that is way better." "Look, I know the movie is garbage, but if you take the time to watch the other movies set in the same universe, you'll understand why everything was in character and had to be that way."

The main quest of a game should be able to stand on its own merits. If all of your good content is on the periphery of the game, complaining when people don't go out of their way to find that content and instead end up thoroughly unimpressed with the game is just dumb.

The main quest does hold up, and it's literally better than Skyrim's, Oblivion's, FO3's and FO4's main quest combined.

Not that those games had much of a main quest. :p

If you're going to keep insisting on responding to an alternate reality strawman of what we're saying while simultaneously being a condescending ass, then people will stop taking you seriously.

New Vegas' "main quest" does stand on its own merits, but that's like saying the patty of a burger should be an entire meal on its own. New Vegas is all about the fate of the Mojave and the people who live there, so if you don't bother to experience either outside of the bare minimum then no fucking duh you found the game uncompelling--you barely played it.
