Traveller, The Rise of Empire: A Naval Design, Procurement and Command Quest

I am against issuing a challenge until we figure out what the terms are gonna be - we don't have technology they want as far as we know, so if we lose what are they going to want?
I assume the next vote would deal with that. We express interest in challenging them now, and negotiations of terms happen in the next few updates.

What if they want land for some of their young men?
Then we reject the terms and the challenge does not happen.

Wouldn't we want to choose personal combat or some sort of prowess challenge instead?

They seem to be both taller and stronger on average and also have much more advanced personal weapons technology, so I'm not sure that's good for us either. :V

IDK, still seems high risk to me. What if they view us as issuing and then withdrawing the challenge if it's too rich for us as a sign of weakness? Or cowardice? There's a lot of unknown variables.

Yes, that's their likely reaction if we walkback the challenge. If we issue it, we'll have to commit to doing it and be willing to accept the potential loss. That said, we negotiate first and perhaps we can get away with wagering some intangibles.

A one v one duel against a warrior culture that has fighting claws in the palm of their hands sounds like a terrible idea.

They have more advanced tech than us; they are naturally better fighters than us. In either realm, we are likely to be outmatched.

I do not think this challenge is a good idea until we have both a better idea of what their ships are capable of and we have our own more advanced models coming off the slips.

Would really rather not commit to a challenge right now. Maybe later after we know more about them and have been trading for a while. Meanwhile I am very wary of the complete silence from Xyri.

The Main questions I have about Daughter infiltration are these.

-What percentage of the force are Daughter sympathizers

-Are they spying on the fleet, and if so, what kind of information are they focused on gathering

-Are Daughter agents concentrated on specific ships

Given they are motivated by religion, I doubt we could turn any of them into double agents. However, we could feed bits of false information to them and see how they react

Not a fan of a challenge without knowing what's on the table, and I'm more interested in Xyri

For those who do not know: behold the true horror of aesthetics as it is practiced in the Kerensky Cluster.
I'm mostly interested in what's their end goal. What does their prophet want? Can we accept these guys as part of our political scene or do we need to be purging their influence?
Their goals and their methods, for me. What's been revealed so far sounds extremely culty, and figuring out where they stand on the spectrum of "weird but harmless" to "group with countercultural beliefs that have the upper classes fuming" to "abusive and subversive cult" is more important than learning how pervasive they are in the service. Are they actually a problem? If they are, are they a problem for Home and its people, or just for entrenched interests and the careers of conservative politicians? Better to learn those things before going around asking people "are you now, or have you ever been, a daughter?"
