Why not like selkies then? Or like Harry Potter Mermaids? Different not based on time(phases of the moon) but on environment? Changing into monsters beneath the water, only to turn to man outside it?

Need more water traits to attempt something like that maybe even a blessing;)
 
Wolf blessing is currently at 20 to 18 over fish. I'm actually extremely tired, the lock and update will come tomorrow (or assuming I wake up in 3 hours, around then instead).
 
The moon blessing is also for trickery and stuff. Dog bro was the original shapeshifter and he was the moon/stars/astrology spirit. So his blessing might not just count for moon traits. It might also help shape shifting.

That however was not part and parcel to it. We have Spirit of Mischief and Chimera for that and Mischief gates Spirit of Siren as well. The Fish Blessing could help with our conflict with the Crone, who could still be waiting for us after this turn. The Fish Blessing could be about Rivers/stream and could give us an in on reaching the Crone and other inland villages. Finding other villages to build shrines in is paramount if we want to raise Influence as it is based on having her shrine count maxed.

What about greater water actions? Those are Gaerig's bread and butter! Surely there is much we could do with that? Powerofmind is working on changing the elemental trait system. Seeing as Moon wouldn't be one, who knows what sort of goodies we can get a first shot at?

It ALL helps against the Crone. We're getting a power-up after this, and while the specifics may vary, I think it's a fairly safe bet that it will be big enough that the Crone will have to back off and reassess for a year. And if she doesn't, I'm fairly certain that she won't be getting a free pass out of it.

Or, a bit more pessimistically, it will at least enable more options for our future efforts to over come that old hag.
 
It would be hilarious if the new things we get are things that change our nature enough that all the plans she has made and rituals and crafting in order to trap us no longer works.

All true. However I'm of the belief that the Fish Spirit's blessing would work best and even as improbable as 9 9s are, they are only middling successes so wouldn't solve our problems pat and dry. Which is why I want Fish blessings. While moon may have caused her rush her schedule, I believe having more land bound water affiinities would have a better chance of doing something about it.

I am going to point out, and I've only really been skimming, so I might be wrong. You're argument is based around assumption that picking fish will get us access to inland water traits.

I've seen nowhere where this is confirmed and until then, is only blind speculation that you're talking about as a certainty.

That feels a little faulty.

From the original Amber Age. Fish Spirit was a River spirit that came from the "big lake that he could not see the other side of." It was speculated that he was talking about the ocean and if he managed to get so far inland from there, why not Gaerig with his blessing?

Yeah, but... He was foremost a trade spirit. And he slept awhile. It could easily relate to one of his other traits. (Same principle applies to mister moon!)

Why not Gaerig right now, with her inherent affinity for water and the Humanity+Trickery to impersonate people?

Seems ridiculous that people would worship us as an embodiment of the river without any local rivers.

Look at option. It does not say Fish of trade, but Fish of the River and options have pertained to Gaerig's main traits. He was a River trade spirit. All his shrines were by the river snaking all the way to the ocean. "Mister moon" on the other hand stayed in only place.

The thing is we don't actually know. We have not taken a single Explore the land option or asked Saiga about it and the map we have is if a measly 2 miles that isn't even filled out completely until we find out more. There could very well be a nearby River/Stream that we simply aren't aware of.

Mistake I see you, and most everyone else, making is assuming this is a 1 to 1 ratio.

That because we see what we recognize as a Fish Spirit caricature that means we should expect from it what we would get from the actual Fish Spirit.

In case you forgot, we're in Harzivan's Realm, so think about what that means.

Did the rivers ever run dry? Was Siviram ever a werewolf? Did Fire Thief ever run around stealing from everyone?

No. What does this mean?

Everything is filtered through Harzivan.

As a result? These spirits? They're all Harzivan. These tasks? All Harzivan. These gifts? All Harzivan.

Tl;dr: Don't think about what related to Fish Spirit/Siviram we would get from them, think about what related to Fish Spirit/Siviram we would get from Harzivan.

(I reserve the right to shrug and deflect if I turn out to be wrong)

These are the options:
[] Accept the Wolf of the Moon's blessing.
[] Accept the Fish of the River's blessing.
Not trade or stars, Moon and River. What we see is what we get you say? Then that makes it even better since it would be River Affinity that we would get and thus remove a blindspot that Gaerig has concerning landbound water sources that veekie mentioned.

My point still stands. If Fish Spirit could do it with a River Affinity, why not Gaerig?
