[X] Is the mood among the White Sky's soldiers

Not really phased with either option winning. But more interested in this one narratively.

Cai Shenhui is regarded as a freak of nature for having achieved White by 80-ish, and normally people are called "Young Master" until they turn 100.
Shenhua reached White at 50 actually
In a setting where 450, like what Bai Suzhen is on track for, is considered genius level

She was Indigo at 40, which is already considered cream of the crop, and then somehow jumped 3 whole realms straight to White in 10 years

I don't think it's going to take us that long, but it is well beyond the scope of the Quest, or even a sequel Quest unless it's 150 years later and we're playing Ling [Firstname] in some sort of "Now you play a descendent" Quest. :V

Timeskips are gonna start coming after the summit, but either way yrs did say as long as we keep supporting him he'll write this all the way to ascension.

Straight military stuff is boring, and maybe we'll find out about their singing arts/mantles

"Thank you Meng Dan," she said, turning away from the hole and the scattering workers. She had sensed him hanging back, as she removed the last of the workers, but he'd not presented himself while she was speaking with the foreman. "I am sorry for my lateness."
"Given the circumstances, it could not be avoided," he said pleasantly, peering past her shoulder the buzz of activity around the sinkhole. "There is no excuse for that to be there. My clan's own geomancers approved the digging plans, alongside the Wang's."

"I know," Ling Qi said quietly.

Meng Dan hummed, pushing the lenses perched on his nose up. Meng Dan had replaced his flowing scholars robes with something more practical today, a dark blue tunic belted at the waist, its longer hem hanging down over trousers and high riding boots. She sensed a frisson in the air, a pulse of qi, and a faint glimmer of silver in his pupils.

"There's no sign of impurities… or anything else unnatural," Ling Qi said.

"Please do not take it as an insult, Lady Ling. These eyes of mine are my only useful trait," Meng Dan chuckled. "Nothing so obvious. However… those foundations, what remains is deeper than it should be."

Ling Qi frowned. "Sloppy workmanship?"

"Unlikely. The plans given to the workers may need review though," Meng Dan said.

"...Regardless, that core should not have been close enough to be disturbed by such a thing," Ling Qi said after a moment.
Just a little bit too deep to be safe.

That sounds like something a Green realm Earth cultivator could do given time to work with. Wouldn't even take that long, and for anyone without supernatural senses, it'd be easy to miss.

I'm definitely the most interested in seeing what their higher-ranking security people think, and although this option probably won't give us that... hey, it might!

CROW MAN WHAT ARE YOUR INSIGHTS

Meng Dan mentioned culture and religion. While I think we'll get into the meat of that more in relation to the astronomical observations, he claimed his interaction with the White Sky factored into their conclusions.

The White Sky soldiery by-and-large favor Fryja as their patron, and I've been curious about her for a while now. We might get a snippet of information or two if we go with the soldiers here.

Now that I think about it, the Meng may be behind this.
Their geomancy would be perfect to locate the mountain's hearts and perform the subtle changes needed to cause the minor accidents.
The construction plans were also approved by them so they have all the information they would need.

Of course, I don't mean Meng Dan's faction nor that "compromise choice" uncle of his.
But a mid-high green from the Reactonary faction that has slipped into the Meng delegation and is particularly mad with the "heretic" Ling Qi.

Basically, this is would be -4 reputiation we earned from the Tsu play coming back to bite our ass.

That, or the yith-ia are doubling down on yan Renshu and giving his puppets High-cyan stealth. Whoever is doing the sabotage seems to be targeting workers (by which I mean changing their orders so they conflict or cause accidents), which are probably the lowest-level cultivators around, and the easiest ones to tamper with.

I said so in another post, but the Yith-ia don't make sense unless there is another traitor like Yan Renshu pretty high in the command of the worker crew.

Surreptitiously moving the mountain's hearts around to cause accidents like this one requires at least a high Green cultivator with a specialization in geomancy and earth-mountain arts.
To subtly alter the construction plans so the workers go just a bit deeper than it's safe and other small mistakes speaks of a detailed knowledge of said plans and the ability to modify them without the changes being noticed by other people reviewing them.

If Yan Renshu has High-Cyan stealth puppets granted by the Yith-ia that can bypass the MoI and Count's security measures to do all that, we are in deep shit and it's beyond our hands to do anything about.

Really, the more I think about it the more likely it seems to me that the culprit is a middle-command Meng geomancer Reactionary that resents Ling Qi and is dissatisfied with the Summit.

Turnvoting for now, I think. x2
