Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
I have a question for you @yrsillar, and for the whole thread really if they like. In the first thread, in tournament 9, when Cai Shenhua and Bai Suzhen had that exhibition "match", what were those representations? The Idealized City and the Black Lake? Because when I first read that it connected a lot of dots in my head that I'm not sure of.

I will say that this quest is the only piece of Xianxia media I have read so maybe I'm seriously off here. But when I read that scene the first thing, the first concept for what I was reading, that popped into my head was that those representations were Reality Marbles from the Nasu-Verse.

For those unfamiliar with the Nasu-Verse a Reality Marble is the greatest of the ability-line called Marble Phantasms primarily utilized by the highest tier of beings known as the Dead Apostles. Basically Vampires that originate from the moon. What a Reality Marble is when the user imposes their personal view of reality, thier Soul, upon the world around them. For those familiar with the anime Bleach, imagine it as a Shinigami bringing their inner-world into the real one, making it real.

Reality Marbles often take the form of environments like the Black Lake and the Idealized City. Often they can form entire landscapes. If you need an example go to YouTube and type in Shirou Emiya vs Gilgamesh.

Now the main and needed aspect about a character that is required to actually use a Marble Phantasm is that their mind/personality/view of reality/Soul must be totally Inhuman and Unnatural, not Supernatural, Unnatural. Something completely Foreign to the World itself. Dead Apostles originate from the being known as the Type-Moon, the spiritual personification of the Moon, as in the celestial body/planetiod not the concept, itself much like how Gaia is the personification of the Earth. This is how they are able to use Reality Marbles. As they age and grow in power they also become more and more inhuman and unnatural.

This comparison clicked in my head that all of the older and more powerful Cultivaters have very strange personality quirks and such, most emphasised by Cai Shenhua and her monstrous presence, Inhuman personality, and unnatural view of the world. How that as they cultivate they grow less an less mortal.

The fact that the representation of Cai Shenhua, after establishing that she is obsessed with making everything as orderly as possible, is a city that is the very picture of Order and uniformity with her face plastered on the largest building in the center of said city . . . . . . Well damn if that doesn't sound like a Reality Marble to me.

You know, I just realised that regardless of whether or not we go back we've likely torpedoed the possibility of any future Outer Sect student using the Mystic Vale.

Not only has Heizui been training his arse off, this us reducing the chance challengers have of taking him in a fight, but after repeated exposure to our mad flute skills his standards are likely higher as well for potential supplicants.

Is there some reason that the art might not be placed within a different challenge?

And on the note of FVM, I am rather against it's pattern of operation from a tasks used to accomplish position. Ling Qi primarily operates as a rogue sort of archetype when not fighting, and I find the fact that most of her primary offensive abilities are notably unsubtle to be disadvantageous to this. I am rather less concerned with the musical parts, than I am with the large and unnatural cloud of fog announcing her presence.

I do get that FVM stacks well with SCS, and those were the cards available when Ling Qi built her hand, but I do not particularly like how FVM functions.

I do suspect that I will be wholesale overruled, but these are my thoughts on the subject of this Art.

It's like a Reality Marble, but what they were was the depiction of Shenhua and Suzhen's Domains.

Ling Qi will be able to do something similar at higher realms.

And yeah, it's been known for awhile that going up the realms requires becoming less human in some ways.

Oh? I more connected their Domains to a Nasu-Verse magus's Origin. As in it shows what kind of magic/arts they would be most talented at and what main concepts the magus/cultivated should focus on when learning and creating magic/arts.

While there's like thematic similarities to the Nasuverse, Yrsillar isn't really pulling from there.

Some of his cultural inspirations are from Dominions games and some character inspirations are from Kill la Kill.

But yeah, the Domain is what created those images. Look at Zeqing. She isn't a woman in a blizzard. She's a blizzard that can make a woman body for her use, and that blizzard is her Domain or at least part of it.

Not really how it functions here. The Domain is shaped by the arts the cultivator is training, and there comes a point where the Domain actively restricts what can be added to it and thus implicitly influences what kinds of arts a cultivator will go for and make. Because past a certain point cultivators have to make new arts for themselves instead of taking from pre-made arts.

They are very much dissimilar. An Origin is more closely related to elemental alignment than anything else. Origins, once awakened, can define an individual, or enhance abilities when the individual acts in line with that Origin, but both Origin and Elemental alignment are something innate to the individual.

Domains are instead constructed by an individual intentionally, accidentally, or incidentally. In some (decidedly imperfect) ways, I would treat a Domain more like a Crest than anything else native to the Nasu-verse.

I see, so Domain are Reality Marbles in a sense. Newborn/young Dead Apostles don't really have a connection to their Marble because thier mindsets are still human-ish and natural. It's only the oldest, powerful, and Inhuman Apostles that can actually utilize and manifest their Reality Marbles. Interesting parallels here.

What Tallamee said pretty much.

I don't like using the definitions of Nasuverse for cross description in other settings, considering how unique Nasuverse can get.

The big thing is that 'Reality Marbles' (and they are called many different things) have been a staple in some form or other in fantasy for the past 70 years. That they are used in a specific way in Nasuverse doesn't mean much in how they are used in FoD/ToD.

If we don't invest some social effort into Li Suyin, she'll be stolen away to be a Bao vassal.

Also note that you shouldn't take what we saw literally. It was more of a metaphor for what was happening rather than an accurate depiction of the fight.
