Only Meng contacts are not without benefit for Hanyu. She get less popularity that way, but more acceptance which will be important if in distant future. She wouldn't stay as Hanyu the Little Sister forever, sooner or later she will become Hanyu the Great Spirit and being accepted part of the land is important. So it's +2 to Hanyu vs +1 to Hanyu, delayed +1 to Hanyu and +1 to LQ.

I'd be more wary about putting all our eggs in one basket like this, but we don't really have a support base yet, so better all in on the south than patchworks of bits and bobs.

this is literally proving the theoretical process of cooperative development and the exchange of values through communication over isolation.
not only are we a living example of ye olde Meng (and Emerald Seas) values and traditions, we also came to these ideas from the wild
We developed these ideas on our own, and it is after our way is already quite formed that we're becoming exposed to the roots of the old knowledge.
In that way, following our own path isn't a violation of tradition. We have no tradition. We make choices, and we choose connection and wield isolation. We choose to assist, and destroy when we must. We choose to use diplomacy, or choose to use force. We are free to choose the ties that bind us, and take none of them for granted.
which is something that was disturbing to Meng Dan on some level, the lack of roots and our genuine lack of interest in something so formative for an interconnected societal web which the Meng seem to have. We live traditions without being burdened with expectation, assumption or entitlement. Our connections are forged by mutual parties with intent and mutual effort.

Her brother is an Isolationist. She is a Reformer. She has reached out, and will benefit her section by reaching out and building this connection. In turn, we will benefit, and if ever he decides to reach out, we may forge connection there too. It's just so, interesting, how our "divine" connections will almost make it seem like the Gods themselves favor the connected approach.
This also is interesting for Hanyi's career because it gives her another land, a land somewhere between the grandiose ancient pacts of the Meng Capital Region and an Imperial Province, to cut her teeth on. We will have pretext to take a closer look at a mixed style Meng/Imperial region, the challenges and strengths therein, on a fairly consistent basis not as an oddity but as one in a relationship with Meng Diu. I think this'll be full of information about Weilu-Imperial Fusion styles, as well as the explicit functions Hanyi, Zhengui and Sixiang will be able to have within our potential fief.

I have yet to find an argument strong enough to overturn my gut feeling that these political ties are worth their weight in mythril. It is absolutely the one that serves our political duties to Ren, and declining the chance to nudge the Meng towards our direction is not something to do lightly. Hanyi is losing out comparatively, but this patronage is still a boost for her. I do hope we have more chances to boost Hanyi though, we really want her to keep up with us.

This seems like a choice between prioritizing Ling Qi's ambition or Hanyi's and I personally don't feel very comfortable making potentially sub-optimal decisions for others based on personal benefit. Ideally, it'd be nice to talk it over and see what her preference is, but that doesn't seem to be an option. This was supposed to be Hanyi's thing for Hanyi's benefit, was my impression, so I'll vote capital here.
