Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
The first Dancer we saw assassinated a milatary commander immediately before the village he was defending was to be assaulted by indiscriminate forces.

That is an attack on civilians.
OneArmedYeti, paraphrased, "The attack on the military commander, that was an attack on civilians."

There were at least two people who posted in between my post and yours who mentioned the sect town attack - is it really so hard to just use the same example as someone else rather than try and argue a military officer is actually a civilian target?

It's an attack on civilians if you murder the head of the local Army Corp of Engineers while arranging a dam sabotage upriver of a town, yes.

I'm not disputing that the man himself was a legitimate target, I'm saying that everyone operating in a theater coordinating with allies committing war crimes as a matter of strategy is committing those same war crimes whether or not they're lining folks up next to ditches themselves.

[X] A fully fortified 'Panic Room' fortified to the limit of Xuan Shi's skill (7 Green Stones, owed favor to Xuan Shi.)

I'd like to imagine the look of the next homeowner's face when they see how many random things are added to the house. Should make for amusing content.
We literally have skeletons in our basement, courtesy of Li Suyin.

I am feeling bad for how much we rely on Xuan Shi. I know it is not the case, but it feels like one of those situations in which you ask a friend to help you move and forget to tell them that the elevator broke so you need to take the furniture ten floor up the stairs. And you know they are either trying to impress or are too nice to say no so they will always carry more than you do.

It doesn't help that I can't recall whether he has any close friends in the sect either.

On more amusing thoughts, I am not sure if our mom will be exasperate about Ling Qi stringing around a duchal boy to do complicated formation work while it looks like he is still recovering from an injury (an arm on a sling is probably a minor thing but our mother was a mortal until recently) or frustrated because after expresing worry about getting involved with the Bai and the Cai when she first heard about that, we bring yet another duchal dude explicitly to ask them for a favor.

That said, as amusing as it is to ship him, I am of the opinion that Xuan Shi is just too nice for his own good rather than him having a crush. It doesn't help that the way he answered to our mother (brief hesitation followed by earnestness) is usually what I associate with thinking the exact opposite of what you end up saying and then overcompensating. At least that is what it is like in my experience.

I feel the same way, which is why I'm so excited to owe him a favor.

I want to interact with him in a situation that's about HIM, except not in a weird makeout cave.

Probably worth it. Someone was joking about it earlier, but "resale value" actually has merit even if it is not used by our household. Though I sincerely doubt anyone will be able to afford it except maybe if someone decides to join the Sect and bring their family here (surely there is a higher year commoner who decided to join the sect?).

We choose to keep our family here, and not somewhere safer. If that didn't matter, we wouldn't have voted on it. And so I'm not willing to regret this later, or lose anyone.

Plus, plus a favor is a tie that binds as much as a personal relationship, and ties to his clan seem like something that Cai are pursuing.

Hmmmmm who would win Ling Qi or this expensive Panic Room?

well I am sure Ling Qi will test it very very thoroughly

Cost of panic room: 7 green
Cost of testing: 10 green
Cost of keeping everything hush hush: 45 yellows
Cost of peace of mind: Priceless

This was my first instinct when i saw the vote and the arguments against it have failed to convince me

With a bit of luck, Zhengui an watch and learn a thing or two about Xuan Shi. And maybe even grow genuine, if begrudging, respect towards him.

Can we keep the house for Biyu once we leave the Sect and she joins? It'd make a nice gift, like a military-grade summer home complete with Skelly Butler-Security Guards!

War's only going to get heated more after this plus isn't Qi's family in the town that's the bulwark for the Cloud Tribe? Shishigui could come up with a surprise army from below doing a joint effort with each other at any time.

Even when they were repelled from our town it was mainly the Outer Sect with Oracle Fox's and Gan's help that saved everyones ass's from the fire IE Unawakend/Mortal's to Red and Yellow's as the main attacking force with a small pool of appraisal green's leading I'm guessing.
They were very lucky indeed otherwise we'd have no family to go back to this is why we have stone's to burn for in the first place, and math cabal agrees it's within our budget!

Besides it's not like Xuan came here to Immediately get to work, it's a social visit and it's when he get's more healed up that'll be when the defenses truly are born.

Neither the Shishigui nor the Sect has deliberately targeted civilians as of yet
....Just because the Cloud Barbarians did most of the killing, doesnt mean the Shishigui are absolved.from their part in those operations.

They are just as responsible for.giving the Cloud Tribes the confidence to move.against the villages and civilians in such force as they did.

Hm. A panic room won't save them from a strike that comes too quickly to panic about. And might not have room for everyone Qingge wants to save.

I get friendship vibes with Bao at most, tbh. They simply don't really have that much chemistry.
There's friendship vibes because that's how far Ling Qi's willing to take any possible relationship with a guy. But, there's certainly quite a few interests between them, like money, working out or looking at someone who works out, and making or recording music. Things have certainly started on less than that.

Don't diss Bao Qian just to try and prop up Xuan Shi even more than he already is.

We have wog from discord that a panic room will be big enough for the entire household, staff included. So we don't need to worry about size.
