Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
[X] Carefully accepted. She had to begin dialing down her discomfort somewhere. [Potentially, Information and improved relationship with Bao Qian, Ling Qi uncomfortable, potentially negative outcome.]

How do Cultivators handle situations when they have Insights which conflict with each other?
Pickle covered the case where the insight conflict is internal, but for cases where two different cultivators have conflicting insights slotted into their domains (Holy grammatically ambiguous question, Batman) - it devolves to a case of two people being completely incompatible. They may be able to coexist without violence depending on the magnitude of conflict and their level of cultivation, but for big enough differences and/or high enough cultivations it inevitably reduces to avoiding each other or killing each other.

[X] Blurted out a request to spar instead, that helped cultivators understand each other, right?! [Lesser information and improved relationship with Bao Qian, Ling Qi spared a bad time]

changed my mind
Might wanna delete the first one, I think it would still count for the vote so you'd be voting both at once, just to be safe than sorry.

Anyone got a tally?

Ultimately, I want to continue this romance option longer term. As such, I don't want there to be a roll that determines whether this date outcome hurts or hinders the chances of this potential romance.

I feel that I do want Ling Qi to get more comfortable having dinners and such with people, but that she should actually practice a bit with friends and family before diving headfirst into something that she is this uncomfortable about.

The way the tally is usually run counts only the most recent vote. There's a checkmark for it, so it can be disabled, but I have never seen people use that.

now, originally I wasn't going to vote. Either option was good to me. But I kinda need to make a few points right now in front of seemingly rampant paranoia or objectively false comparisons.

Lets start here
[] Carefully accepted. She had to begin dialing down her discomfort somewhere. [Potentially, Information and improved relationship with Bao Qian, Ling Qi uncomfortable, potentially negative outcome.]

What Bao gets:
-Ling Qi's attendance on a date.

What Bao offers:
-A meal
-Hopefully riveting dialogue

What Ling Qi gets:
-Pushes her personal boundaries.
-A meal - She doesn't value this, unless its also a cultivation drug.

What Ling Qi offers:
-Her presence, however uncomfortable she's clearly being about the whole business.

[] Blurted out a request to spar instead, that helped cultivators understand each other, right?! [Lesser information and improved relationship with Bao Qian, Ling Qi spared a bad time]

What Bao gets:
-Finally an indication of what Ling Qi wants.

What Bao offers:
-A demonstration of his skills and cultivation.

What Ling Qi gets:
-Training progress.

What Ling Qi offers:
-A chance to actually get to know her directly.

Okay veekie usually I like your posts, because they have your analyzations and a lot of info on the story. But here...really? Your comparison here is, pardon the language, a bit fishy. So a meal offers from Bar is conversation and the actual food to a reciprocation of pushing her boundaries and everything else being her uncomfortable or not wanting/needing. First, Ling Qi does like food just for the taste as shown in the recent family fluff where she easts food and enjoys it. Sure she doesn't eat a lot, but it isn't a trial to her. Then there is the fact that Ling Qi being uncomfortable is a completely negative thing. Uncomfortable isn't always bad and everyone has to be uncomfortable in life at some point. Going to something like a dinner also does two things for Bao, it puts the ball in his court and gives him something with some familiarity to latch himself unto while trying to talk to Ling Qi. Its also a clear indication that she is willing to try. The spar, while nice and a great friendship activity isn't a display of what Ling Qi wants, its her going to what she knows. And sure its nice and normally I would think its sweet but reading through the thread has turned me off to the option.

For me the best I can see from the options is this.

Dinner:
Pros. Has a chance to lessen Ling Qi's disdain and discomfort. Gets Ling Qi more used to dinner parties. Pushes her comfort zone. Gives Bao some familiarity and a clear sign of her attempt to reach out. Info on him and what he can give us about the current situation. Gives more insight on us (depending on how it goes)? Ling Qi has literally never tried this before so its worth doing at least once.

Cons: could go bad, could go catastrophically bad, Ling Qi doesn't feel comfortable and it backfires, Bao tries to take advantage, lose income, sour relations, spazz....Do you see what I mean? a lot of this is things that could happen, but thats a risk when reaching out no matter what. And generally the way I see it, if it goes that catastrophically badly it wasn't going to work in the longterm.

My biggest question is when did people ever think Ling Qi was the type to ease into things?

I really don't think this argument on romance is relevant to the vote.

To me, if we are voting for the dinner, it's because we want Ling Qi to constantly pushing her comfort zone because we believe she should be doing much more work there. She has been doing work, but if we vote for it then getting Hanyi to sing, doing trade work with Qian, taking him seriously and having dates is not considered enough, Ling Qi still needs to change how she approach relationships.

However, if we vote for sparring, we believe it's OK for Ling Qi to not like traditional ways of courting and to be the way she currently is as long as she is still having dates with people and taking Qian seriously and doing her job for CRX.

Basically, I am voting for the spar because I believe having a comfort zone is not a bad thing, and taking her time until she feels comfortable with a dinner- if she ever is- is OK.

This is a big thing for me as well. in the opposite direction. Ling Qi doesn't get comfortable with things this way. She never has. She throws herself at things in an attempt to change or grow. She doesn't go slow, and she does need to know how to be okay with a dinner. She doesn't like her comfort zone and wants to change it herself. Every big relationship for her comes from reaching outside her comfort zone and risking herself. If we just stuck to sparring with Meizhen we would have lost her. reaching out isn't a sin.

We are not Cai Fucking Shenhua. we do not have the luxury of going against traditions as she does. Sure, if we get to White we can go around with our mistress/lover and obsolete our sperm donor into nonexistence. But we are not her and s lovely as having our own courtship style is, and I do believe we should have our own touches, we cannot go against society as much as what you seem to advocate. Escpaically as that goes against our job with the Cai as a social smoocher. While I do not believe in making our way about it going contrary to it seems stupid.

Okay so just wanted to make it clear that I have nothing against you two, you guys just had the most reasonable points to springboard off of that wasn't "I hate romance" or "the relationship should burn!!". Had a bad and kinda spurged here. If I am overly offensive or something tell me and Ill take it down later. Just wanted to get this out there.

We're in one of those right now. We had a chat about it with Meizhen and Renxiang:

The answer to your question appears to be "you suffer a cultivation penalty until you figure out how to reconcile the philosophical conflict." This might or might not involve gaining a new Insight, we don't know.
The conflict's a bit vague at the moment. Been hoping for more of the issue's... texture to rub up against the narrative, but it's been slim. There will definitely need to be a concerted dive into past updates on us players' part when the heart demon starts to come to a head again.

This is how Long Qi spends time with friends. And while he's no Gu Tai I'm still willing to give him a chance.

I just think it'll be cute to watch them spar. That's how LQ interacts with her friends a lot of times.
