This Bites! (One Piece SI)

one thing I always found fascinating about Foxy is that he put up a legitimate 1v1 fight against Luffy. As a guy who prides himself on cheating, that is a hell of an accomplishment. Sure he was pulling tricks out left and right during the entire fight, but just having the ability to punch Luffy and have it actually hurt him says wonders about his fitness.

Honestly, I was surprised Foxy picked Cross outta the crew, I expected him to catch on faster than he did and count the snail as part of the crew, and pick Soundbite instead. Cross doesn't really bring an immediate advantage, as Foxy already had all of his tactics on lockdown and a tactician who isn't familiar with what he is working with is rather useless. Maybe Foxy could have ordered Cross to spill the beans on the Strawhat's plans/strengths, but that didn't really happen. Soundbite would have been the most directly useful (barring Robin, but she didn't show off her strength here) in ensuring that the future rounds would be won.

Finally I am truly disappointed at you not having the Going Merry participate in the Donut Race as a "contestant". would be even better if you had her enter by herself for the sheer WTF factor.

That was actually brought up--he assumed that Soundbite was Cross' 'Equipment', and not that Soundbite was recognized as a separate member of the crew, and he got real salty when he didn't get the snail too.

To be fair, this is an image that they've cultivated--given how Cross and Soundbite are pretty much one unit under ordinary circumstances--it's just hard to grok that it's because of teamwork rather than a tool/master relationship, because they work together just that well.

I didn't even look up as a finger tapped my shoulder. "Hey, Cross, any clue where I can find the reference books?"

I absentmindedly raised a finger and pointed to the left. "That way, I think. I saw an index thataways if it helps."

"That works. Thanks, Cross."

"Anytime, Nami."

Ten seconds later, I glanced up from the book with a mutter of "The hell…?" but a quick glance around showed me to be completely alone, so I shrugged and returned to my reading.

Okay, so, did Nami actually raid the ship or was this a figment that shows off how Cross has gotten so used to the crew that he can't subconsciously imagine one of them not being around him?

Are you going to have the more of the Franky family join the Strawhats?

How about that CP9's sword-elephant join?

Or having a Bigger boat than the Thousand Sunny, or just a larger version of it?

Also, Cross could get that invisibility devil fruit from Moriya's subordinate?

Either Kaku or Paulie would be good ideas for extra crewmates, but considering Boss's ropedart specialty and the eensy-weensy fact that Kaku is a government assassin... Likely, but with some difficulties, plus the crew is already getting huge enough without the Galley-La members having to pitch in as well.

As for the Franky Family? Quite Frankly - aha, see what I did there - none of them have that individuality that would make them good for the crew. As far as I can remember, most of them used guns, hammers, hacksaws, and cannons - and not much in between. Between Conis, Usopp, and Chopper, they would only fade in the background should they join, Franky himself as the exception of course. And if the Cross-Brain really wants to give a twist, add in Iceberg to the mix... wait nope, the man's a noncombatant.

As for the elephant-sword - order matters after all: it's a sword that 'ate' the Elephant Elephant Fruit, not vice-versa - the problem is, Cross isn't a swordsman nor is he planning to be. Lassoo was completely unplanned and was practically given to him by force by his previous masters, so the dog-gun is the exception. The elephant, however? Very unlikely, and if we're going along the usual high-sentience of crew animals in this story there would certainly be loyalty issues unless this particular elephant is the easy-going kind.

Plus, elephant on a ship. On a ship with Luffy. Starvation would happen within a week in the sea, with said elephant as possible emergency food munitions.

It might not have to eat when in sword form. Also Elephants eat vegetables it would have little competition with luffy.
I do seem to recall the elephant eating fruits in the Anime, yes, but considering how the rest of the crew most likely subsist only on vegetables from time to time due to their captain... Yep, Luffy might not be competition, but the rest of the crew certainly would be.

depends on how large the thosand sunny ends up growing. anndd... why do I have an image of them converting water-7 into a giant ship now..
uh.. back to the question.
they would make good generic crew if the thousand sunny grows large enough to need a generic crew to man it. they would fade into the background, but they could have the purpose of being the officer-crew's support.

Well, to be fair, Iceburg did reveal after the Enies Lobby incident that he did plan on turning the island into a giant ship to keep it safe from Aqua Laguna.

So when are Cross and Soundbite going to turn on the voice controls for Cross's cell phone and allow them to look up the new one piece content that they haven't read or watched yet?

That's specifically banned by the ROB I think.

I'm reading it again and I so far haven't seen anything like that. In fact the way the story reads at the beginning it looks like it is actually explicitly allowed. Now he might have come around again later and banned it then but in the beginning it looks like Cross was originally supposed to have ready access at all times to the Internet. From chemical formula's to video's.

Another thing to note. Soundbite has the Noise Noise fruit. Considering that Observation Haki has been described as listening carefully... well I'm betting Soundbite should be able to throw out false positives with it and or basically make the Observation part of Observation Haki his bitch after the time skip. Just needs a bit of more practice of using Haki to strengthen his abilities or something.

On the subject of recruiting: as of this chapter, thanks to Cross Luffy has set himself up not just as a captain, but, essentially, as an Admiral. Sure, Going Merry is the ship of his crew, and he's her captain, but Straw Hats are now an organization with divisions, and multiple ships. Luffy is slowly transitioning to become an equal to Yonkou.

Okay after reading a few chapters in it appears that Soundbite definitely has access to the whole internet(including the knowledge stored there). Whether or not it is an updating version of it or if it was simply a copy made at that single point in time Soundbite has access to it which means he has access to at least some of the One Piece manga. Chapter 13.

It's stated to be edited:
"A piece of technology from my world, a communication device known as an iPhone," I explained matter-of-factly. "It was somehow modified by the same force that brought me here, so that it would have infinite energy and would always be connected to the information network we had. What you're hearing is known as the world wide web, or the internet, for short. Or, at least, you're hearing the audio of it anyways. Apparently tastefully edited so that you didn't realize exactly what it was until now."
And the fact that Soundbite doesn't know anything about One Piece's future stuff (not knowing about Awakened Devil Fruits, for example) suggests that One Piece itself is included in the stuff that's edited out.

Yeah I am reading the fanfic. It says that and your interpreting it incorrectly. The context of the quote your using is after soundbite has already been pulling out data from it several times previously. Your basing your entire argument on something said by someone that literally knows nothing about what information is or is not known. Scrolling through the internet is hard for a first time user. All the elderly people in the world as my evidence. It is second nature for us, not for a snail from another plane of existence.

All right, here's the Word of God: Soundbite has access to nothing related to One Piece. B.R.O.B. has a block in place that prevents him from accessing any details on the series—canon, filler, movie, soundtrack, anything, even the stuff that's already happened, even the stuff that Cross already knows.

Just curious, is fanwork also blocked? Aka, anything remotely OnePiece related gets black ink'ed/REDACTED?

Out-of-Universe, fanworks will be blocked too because that's not what the story is about. Or at least I'm pretty sure thats not what the authors want it to be about.

In-universe, we're literary talking about an omnipotent being. Blocking out fanworks would be completely doable, and even rather easy. Heck, she could even filter out anything but specific One Piece songs and such that wouldn't reveal any information, but enhance the quality of the adventure.

Soundbite doesnt even get access to Bink's grog?

Or as the transliteration goes Bink's sake?

But this is the National Anthem of Pirating...

Or are you going for a New Anthem for a New Age?
