Ugh, while waking up at 3 AM after one of the weirdest dreams I've ever had can certainly be productive, that doesn't mean it's fun.

[x] "Possible, but they are likely to treat the people of this world like the Western settlers of old did your people back in the day. Happy and friendly enough at the start for aid when in need, but slowly start to expand and move to 'enrich' the savages of the new world with their better ways when they are stable.

As they were prefectly fine in taking captives and using horribly invasive probing methods to find out what kind of forces would be needed to relocate and pacify enough people to settle enough land in this world as their first action."

Might as well be honest and up front with the people on this subject now, so as to cut off to many boneheaded ideas here.

Nigeria had to deal with western settlers?

This is way too generous and sympathetic.

They're Europeans settling America without any attempts to buy the land, trade, etc.

They're more comparable to nazis seeking lebensraum.

Well what else would you call the european settlers of Africa?

As they did kind of shit all over that place once they got there and set in roots.
Honestly didn't know they had to deal with settlers, period. Thought all they dealt with was Imperialism, which to me is pretty different from settlers. One is taking control of you, the other is kicking you out.

True, but I was trying to not paint a picture that will have everyone here pushing for a total war.

As we do kind of sort not want to ash all the coming aliens right?

Or has that change and we do want total war with the coming aliens?

Well it was more first came the settlers and then after they got a foot hold, the imperialism came shortly after. Since having a support base in the area is always nice for moving for a take over.

We KINDA want to ash the aliens. More specifically, we want the option.
We want funding to arm Humanity greatly enough that the Aliens would be unable to push them over and take control, so that unless they want to all die they are forced to face a peaceful solution. And it feels like a European vs American-Indians is better fit for that, not to mention more accurate. I doubt the Aliens would engage in much Imperialism, instead would just kick humanity aside when it wanted the land.

Alright then, I'll go switch around my terms then to be the harsher tone.

We NEED total war because we're not sure what they're fully capable of. Given how Sectoids were basically cannon fodder, we could very well be facing 13 million troopers, especially given their desperate situation. 13 million conscripts with rayguns and armor that conventional firearms won't pierce. That's why there's this push to arm Earth's militaries on such a short notice. The UN meeting is to raise the alarm, so we can speed up our expansion of manufacturing capacity via more $$$ and co-operation.

I'm okay with people not wanting to completely wipe out the aliens. But we should completely and utterly defeat them so they're not only a threat to us, but not a threat to humanity down the line either.

Alright guys, does this vote seem more you vibe here?

[x] Plan Iron
"Possible, but they are likely to treat the people of this world like Nazis following the ideal of lebensraum would the people of the lands they take over.

As these aliens don't see those that live here as people, so much as just savage primitives that need to be dealt with and if possible retrained into something that can be used for there own means.

So if we are to deal with these aliens in a way that won't see those here under their boots. We need to prove to them that we have guns just as big as theirs, if not bigger."

Maybe a bit more actually saying that we would need enough military might to destroy them to dissuade them from this approach.

[X] It might be possible, but currently they have shown total disregard to human life. Instead of negotiation they started out with kidnapping. Those they kidnapped were subjected to "destructive psychoanalysis", their current plan is to displace enough humans so that they can take over enough land to support them. We can't actually provide them with what they need and want without massive human sacrifice since all our land and infrastructure is currently being used by people. They are clearly hostile, expansionist, and think we are beneath them. Maybe if we win enough fights they might rethink our supposed inferiority and/or get desperate enough to negotiate and accept lowered conditions, such as settling in what would essentially be refugee camps and relying on our good will for food instead.

They actually came here with the intent to conquer us, this is an invasion fleet that was supposed to rely on support it doesn't have
Pretty sure they were actually sent to set up a colony, not to take us over. I think the only reason they are heading our way is because Earth is habitable, and they need to settle down quick.

We actually totally can. Combination of Megaman tech, and Starcraft Tech, means we have more than enough means to take care of them. Just need funding to set it up.

You know, looking back I don't see anything about them coming here to conquer in character. Out of character we know they are here to conquer us (xcom), but in character I can't find explicit backing to it. So changing

funding doesn't magically create infrastructure and food overnight, nor does it magically free up land from the people who live there. They need mines, factories, cities, and farms.

@Trondason that was before they accidentally ended up in Sol.
I know. Meaning, they aren't a invasion fleet. They don't have the armaments a invasion fleet would.
<To be completely blunt, we're in deep shit. 13,000,000 colonists aboard, and we suddenly lost contact with {Sirius} without warning. We sent a fast scout back to check, and the system was completely different. Our telescopes were good enough to tell this system had an inhabitable planet, but we didn't know whether it was inhabited or not. While we could theoretically start up on this system's fourth world, we foolishly assumed we'd have plenty of provisions being shipped in from {Sirius}.
They were sent to set up a colony, they did not come equiped to overthrow a hostile force. They CAN do that, if they must, but that is not what they were equipped to do.
No, that is wrong. Both meta info from source and in character info from the interview. They are conquerers.
From the source, yeah, they were conqueres. From the interview, she explicitly says they were colonists, sent to set up a colony. If Earth was inhabited, they could have set up on Mars, assuming they had supplies coming from Sirius. They don't now, so Mars is no longer a option to them.

But it does over the 6 months it will take them to get here. Megaman gives us robots who can work on building 24/7, and perform many times the work of a normal person. Starcraft gives us plenty of tech ot set up habitable outposts on alien planets, including food from Hydroponics.

Yea, I edited that post

Robots who can work 24/7 does not equal enough infrastructure for 13 million people. And you have not yet answered where they are getting all the land from. As colonists they surely have the means to set up their own infrastructure. They need land, and mines and so on. Basically, they need to conquer a country and evict or kill its population.

Also, I shudder to think of the consequences of spending all of our output on building infrastructure to gift them rather than weapons to stand up to them. That would end up very very very poorly for us.

@Trondason did we even bother trying to see if she was lying? IDK if we can take what she said at face value. But the latter part tells us they're now here to conquer/wipe us out.

I say we make the means to completely take them out. If they try to surrender after completely neutering them, then we can consider it.

You know, I'm surprised no one in the UN actually questioned what he said about the ship being a colony ship. I mean, the idea itself is absolutely stupid for many reasons. These aliens are advanced enough to travel all the way to Earth and don't bring enough food? Well, why go to Earth in the first place? If they can get to Earth, they can get to any other world that can sustain life, and possibly some that won't involve needing to invade. Not only that, but why go so far to colonize in the first place? If the reason they can't settle Mars is that they don't have enough food (and I guess it would take too long for support to get to them), then why not travel to a planet that's closer which they could easily supply with things like food. With that in consideration, they don't even need a world like Earth.

Nothing about this situation makes any sense. Someone should be pointing out these (what I figured would be) obvious flaws. If there are circumstances involved which led to the aliens being in this situation, then that still doesn't explain why the people in the UN wouldn't bring those flaws up, because they wouldn't be aware of those circumstances.
