The Power(Harry Potter/The Gamer)

You have no idea how much I want this to be canon.

Oh wow, thank you for the compliment.

Still, that is something that would never really work in canon. Even if we did know the spell, doing something like that would just make future updates unnecessarily complicated for Halpo because it would mean he'd have to come up with ideas as to what would come of such a crazy action.

that was a pretty nifty omake.

Thank you. I was nervous with writing these at first since before I started writing the omakes for this quest I had never written anything that wasn't related to a class assignment. I do have a pretty active imagination though, so being able to get it out for others to see for the first time, along with seeing other people enjoy it really makes me feel great. I can definitely see why so many writers are passionate about their work.

although it is worth noting that:
1. It says "be sorted into 1 of the houses" not "only one of the houses". by being in all 4 houses the quest is completed (he is in ravenclaw (and 3 others), which is one of the houses, quest completed). For it to not complete you would need to have invented a 5th house for him. or have him destroy the hat, or have him leave hogworts, or some such

I had thought about him just turning around and walking about, but I didn't like that option because it felt, well, petty. The entire point was that Harry always wants to have choices, since this is the first time he's ever been able to have choices in the first place. See, he wants to go to Hogwarts, so having him simply leave feels like him just spiting himself.

As for the wording, I think it could go either way. Saying be sorted into one of the houses strongly implies that only a single house is possible. It doesn't outright say it, but I feel the implication is enough for it to work. If nothing else, being sorted into every single house is bound to break something despite how it's worded. :p

2. impossible to fail doesn't mean that you have to complete the quest, you can have the quest sit in your quest log forever. it just means that there isn't an action that you can take that would make it impossible for the quest to ever be completed. Although it is still wrong, to actually fail is possible if harry dies before being sorted (although res magic does exist, we might be resurrected by the next person to get the gamer power). Destroying the hat might work... or it might just result in manual sorting by teachers. Destoying hogwarts could work, or it could just be rebuilt. Getting permanently expelled for, lets say, murder? could work, or we could get pardoned.

Good points, but once again I feel it could go either way. If you get sorted into all four houses, then it becomes impossible to be sorted into one single house.

I lkike the idea at first glance.
The thing is, you are honestly answering an inanimate object's questionaires that is going to decide your future life
Gamer logic is that we try to guess what the answers means OOC and then give the answers that it wants to hear to place us in the house we want to go into for min maxing purposes

Otherwise, While looking at the answer I discovered that I am a Slytherin. *FEAR ME MUGGLE I AM THE NEW DARK LORD*

You have no idea how much I want this to be canon.
While I thought it was a lovely omake, it is way too snowflaky to be allowed to ever be canon. Its not bad for that because the author was clearly joking rather than actually creating a mary sue

Otherwise, While looking at the answer I discovered that I am a Slytherin.
best house for the best people... don't listen to propaganda by that hag rowlings who was a butthurt gryffindor and wrote revisionist history into a children's book of fiction

They were only a few of slytherin that didn't sucked. Lord malfoy (the father, the son is just a joke) and Lord Voldemort are the only exemple that come to mind. And Voldemort got killed by a baby. Honestly it's hard to take seriously the slytherin after that.

But that means I'll have to do it when I call the vote! D:

Nah, I don't mind that. I'd expected a fair bit of work when I call this vote due to the quiz.

The good news is that the new tally program at least pre-sorts by which options have the highest votes, so you only have to sort the top options to see what's winning.

What house would actually be best for Harry I wonder?

From meta POV and from grinding efficiency POV?

I don't think he has any real idea IC which would be best does he? Or did he get propaganda during the train trip? (I think the Pettigrew thing kinda avoided that).

Hermione and Neville are obvious. Would have chosen Susan, but don't want to separate her from Hannah. Why Su Li? I liked her in Harry Potter and the Wand of Uru, so why not?

And there goes my vote. Lets see where this ride takes us. I'm leaning towards Ravenclaw a bit, too bad we don't know where our friends were sorted so far, wasn't in the update. I wonder if any butterflies changed Hermione to Ravenclaw... I'm assuming not. That's why I'm going to go with Gryffindor among other reasons. Such as the want/need to be heros.

Luna's in Ravenclaw, would've been great to spend more time with her kookyness. Imagine all the insights she going to have about us and 'The Gamer' BEFORE we reveal anything to her. It's her thing folks!

What house would actually be best for Harry I wonder?

From meta POV and from grinding efficiency POV?

I don't think he has any real idea IC which would be best does he? Or did he get propaganda during the train trip? (I think the Pettigrew thing kinda avoided that).

Gryffindor or Ravenclaw, I'm thinking.

Gryffindor has the advantage of being where Hermione and Neville are, and we clearly want to be close friends with them, so that makes spending time with them easier - we'd share classes with them, . Easier access to Fred and George as well, and they're probably geniuses even if nobody realizes it. It also makes it so we might get access to the Sword of Godric Gryffindor at some point, which is a good item to have. On the flip side, it comes with a house rivalry with Slytherin and all that entails. (though we might be able to downplay this by emphasizing "everyone has their bad apples *coughtraitorousratcough*, or try to make it a more friendly rivalry by not antagonizing Draco)

Ravenclaw is nice and neutral, though none of our friends are there currently. Luna Lovegood is there, which could be fun. They do have a private library that likely has a number of unique skill books, though we could potentially sneak in to get access even if we don't join them.

Hufflepuff has Susan, but... it's Hufflepuff. It's undignified to join a house with such a silly name.

Slytherin would be interesting, though.

@Halpo133 - I notice we haven't had any relationship values change as of yet? Will that be an end of day thing, given all the events going on?
