The Power(Harry Potter/The Gamer)

Did any of you folks want me to type out the full blurb for the Priest's version of Detect Evil from 2e (the one Harry has)?

If it detects as evil, it implies intelligence. Harry already knows about animagi and also it's most likely not going to have his name as Scabbers above his head viewed through the gamer ability. It will most likely read "Peter Pettigrew, Traitorous Rat" and then give a level.

Because it doesn't just give titles it gives real names. In the Gamer comic anyway which is where the crossover came from.

On the one hand, yes, because more information is always good. On the other hand, no, because it will give more things for people to argue over.

Yeah, there are no known intelligent magical rats in HPland.

Not even speculation in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them.

The Magical Menagerie in Diagon Alley sells sleek black rats that can use their tails as skipping ropes. These may have had a longer lifespan than ordinary rats, as the clerk suggested them to Ron as "something a bit more hard-wearing" than a common garden rat.

Maybe those rats have some magic in them?

It would be hilarious if Draco turns around and denounces his old ways to avoid the 'Evil' label after we prove the effectiveness of our detection abilities.

Draco: Harry, you were right about the mud- muggleborn! I was a fool to believe that they're inferior-
Harry: Wait a sec. Ahem.
Harry: [Detect Evil]
Draco: *EVIL*
Harry: Sorry, Draco, you have to actually believe that. No hard feelings, alright?
...
Draco: Okay. Harry, this time I've truly thought about the topic and changed my ways. The muggleborn have as much of a place in our society as any of us.
Harry: [Detect Evil]
Draco: *EVIL*
Harry: ...
Draco: But I'm telling the truth!
Harry: Hmm. [Detect Lie]. [ESP]. Could you say that again?
Draco: o_O
Draco: Alright. The muggleborn are our equals and we should do our best to help them become a part of our world.
Draco: *TRUTH*
Harry: How strange.
Harry: Say, Draco, can you think of any other people you've hurt or looked down upon for no good reason?
Draco: ...What exactly do you mean when you say 'people'?
Harry: Huh. Who's Dobby- You did what?!

[x] So... Couple of things... First, you're introducing yourself first by your surname. Indicating that you believe your family to be of the utmost importance, even more than your own identity. Then you re-introduce yourself, using your first name and your last name. Do you have a middle name? And, is that your actual full name? (Harry is wondering if he can find out Draco's True Name, which, per most magical systems, gives you some power over others. He has previously determined he will not give his full name to anybody at school, just in case.

-[X] Relax, Draco. They only laughed because the way you introduced yourself reminded us of a very famous movie. In fact, they would have cracked up just as much had I responded by saying, 'Potter. Harry Potter.' Your actual name had nothing to do with it. Now, you want to join us? I'm about to teach the others how DD works, and the more the merrier!

I will change my vote to explaining the bond joke to him then casting detect evil

because honestly we might as well give Draco a chance, I mean we could have misheard/misunderstood him... (okay, not really but sure.)

Mostly I just think detect evil is a good opening move for new people and randomly for friends because of disguise magic.

Just a note this vote overwrites your old one in the Vote Tally Program, if you still want to have your vote for DnD counted you need to include it into this vote.

Uh... I'm still voting for the option that will hopefully reveal Wormtail, but has anyone given thought to how the others will take it? I mean Harry still has to incant his spells out loud, right? And all of wizarddom's spells are faux-latin, right? So how will everyone take this kid, however special, waving his wand and incanting "Detect Evil", a spell in pure English? Wormtail and his capture would speak to it's efficacy, but that won't stop people wondering why.

Other wizarding nations presumably have spells in their native tongue, but we've never seen spells in English, so what will the wizards here think? Harry's some prodigy spell creator, it's a side effect of his mother's protection, his accidental magic expressing itself in a semi-controllable manner? This could be very important, as Malfoy is sure to write to his father, and he'll damn sure want to know about any spell that could pick Death Eaters in civvies.

Like I said, I'm still voting for it, but there's sure to be more ramifications. Especially if we do it just after introducing DnD to the wizarding world. Also, sorry if this has come already and I missed it, but I just felt this was an important thing to say.

Nope, there are several spells in English. The most commonly used of which one would assume is 'Point Me'.

EDIT: And no, Harry doesn't HAVE to speak his spells aloud. Technically he could cast everything from the menu if he wanted and doesn't need a wand either.

Can he cast from the menu? I don't recall that ever being a thing, either here, or from The Gamer. And since we never committed a option to learning to use our abilities quietly, I assumed we can't.

Maybe later but right now, he can't use wand less or silent magic.

Ron, the one who would be most in the know, didn't realize that the "spell" his brothers taught him wasn't really a spell (the one to turn Scabbers yellow) despite it entirely being english. I'm going to assume it's not his incompetence, but that there are several english spells out there.
Maybe later but right now, he can't use wand less or silent magic.
D&D spells we can do Wandless I'm pretty sure, since they never required a wand in the first place (like when we punch with Smite Evil).

That's actually a spell? I need to brush up on my Potter-lore... Still, the point still remains of how Harry Potter, an 11-year-old, came up with a spell that could've single-handedly changed the first war. Malfoy Senior's gonna want to know about that shit. Dumbledore too, probably. Definitely Madame Bones, and all her Aurors.

Those are... both really good points I should have thought of before.

Han Ji-han has cast abilities and such from the menu by touching the Icon before. You can also get more detailed information by going into the menu as well.

And yes RandomLurker every spell we have that isn't a wizarding spell by definition we don't need a wand for; they were never designed to be used with one.
