The Perfectly Normal High School: A Slice of Life Quest! (Defunct)

[X] [REACT] Yumika lets Silas convince her to go home.
[x] [BONUS] (Special) Her Undivided Attention

I think it might be best for her to go home if we go this route, to avoid potential drama from Drama with misunderstandings.
I'm kind of torn between waifuing Best Girl and being able to eventually learn everything about her (trust option). I guess I'll go with this for now.

[x] [REACT] Yumika lets Silas convince her to go home.
[x] [BONUS] (Special) Her Undivided Attention

I feel like in the long term this option has more chances of getting some of the information trust would have granted us eventually than trust would have a chance of leading to a crush...

Also I just really like Yumika so no other justification needed for my vote.

I want to note for the record that I still ship Hana/Silas very hard and will be voting for Silas to develop feelings for her at the soonest opportunity.

It remains to be seen how Yumika would take such a thing but if "Yandere" is her designation then it'll probably be explosive.

So here are my thoughts on the options presented for us...

[] [BONUS] (Special) (Danger!) Her Protection
After being shown such genuine concern, Yumika feels obligated to return it in kind. She can't deny anymore that Silas has started to make her worry. He seems like a nice, honest kid who wants the best for everyone his friends. He's socially maladjusted but earnest; he's quirky and clumsy but bright. So why does it constantly feel like there's something malevolent hidden between the otaku-ness? Does he have a good home life? What are his parents like? Bad guardians, bad... siblings? The questions start circling around her until she can't help but do something about it... (???, Effect will not be felt until next week)

This one is flat out because this is the main reason why Hana is mad at her to begin with
LuciDreamer said:
"I was going to… uh…" Yumika twiddled her thumbs again. "I was going to… to make them not suspect you anymore. By making them focus on me, instead."

"What?!"

"I was messing with Ichiro-kun's communications a little bit," Yumika said sheepishly. "And making it obvious. So they could trace it back to me. I also left a journal on my personal computer that makes me look super guilty. I even used some of the descriptors they use to describe what they thought Hana-chan was. 'Paranoia-inducing,' 'intensified stress-response…' that sort of thing."

"Yumika-san, t-that's a horrible idea!" Silas exclaimed.

"It's the best way to protect everyone, though…" Yumika replied. Her lip quivered slightly. She bit it, and a defiant, confident look washed over her face. "If they get closer to me, I'll be able to learn more about them. So I can figure out how to pick them apart better."

"So you made yourself into a honeypot?!" Hana seethed.

"I didn't have a choice - "

"You absolutely - "

"Hana-chan!" Yumika shouted. "I-I… I didn't think… I didn't want to involve you…"

"But this was about me, wasn't it?" Hana hissed.

"It wasn't when I started…" She replied quietly.

"It - ?!" Hana's nose twitched. "How long have you been doing this, then?"

"Since… last week…"
Continuing on with Silas being the target would only serve to make Hana madder. We need a solution to the whole Hana-Yumika schism, not something to make it bigger.

And on a related note, she might do something to Big Sis, or Nanami if she thinks they're a "problem"

[] [BONUS] (Special) Her Undivided Attention
Silas's concern is touching. Really touching, in fact… so much so that it makes her feel something strange and familiar and... scary. The feeling reminds her of how horribly she acted towards Hana a long time ago... and that's very scary. She doesn't want to go back to that. She promised herself she wouldn't. But the feeling lingers, no matter how hard she tries to shake it... (???, Effect will not be felt until next week)

This option has he delve back into something she once was and never wants to be again. You'll notice that it refers to actions she took TOWARDS Hana a long time ago. A story that Hana has mentioned in times past, mentioning that it was unpleasant.

"So. She's, err. She feels like she is in a special position to do that. She tries harder than most students ought to. She… she doesn't think much about... " she lowered her voice. "...she isn't above causing harm to others, if she thinks it'll protect those she cares about. She's done it to me before."

"Y-You mean, for you?"

"Nope!" Hana grinned. "To me. It's all water under the bridge, though. I deserved it, anyway."

Its an option that very much jeopardizes her relationships. Hana is already mad at her for acting without care for herself, a revision to an earlier time may break the entire drama club into two factions permanently. And even if it doesn't any action taken against Silas will not be received nicely. And we are rapidly approving a point where Madea is going to try Something, maleveolent or not, with the intention of getting Silas on the SC's side. it just doesn't seem safe for anyone...

[] [BONUS] Presidential Favor
Someone with Silas's character is rare to find. She starts to get the idea in her head that she ought to help him grow as a person by tacking on more responsibilities to his role as a Drama Club member... and... maybe by giving him some role and direction as a part of her pool of information sources. So he wouldn't do something so stupid and reckless again. In time, of course; she kind of feels like a piece of shit right now... (Yumika +5 Favors. Yumika will begin to enlist Silas in Club work and "other" work starting next week.)

This one... This one seems fine. Nothing particularly noteworthy here. Just her trying to grow Silas to be a person defined by a little more then otaku-ness.
You'll also notice that nobody is picking it up for some reason...

[] [BONUS] Her Trust
It starts to occur to Yumika that maybe being so guarded with her feelings around Silas isn't a good thing. If she could trust her with such a sensitive piece of her past then... why shouldn't she trust him with other, mostly inconsequential things? It's not like she's planning on providing him with her entire life story or anything. (Yumika gains the Trait: Trusting(Silas). So long as she has this trait, every time Silas initiates a Social Interaction with Yumika, she is guaranteed to reveal something about her personal life. She will also be more comfortable with confessing information to him if pressed. By trusting Silas, Yumika expects not to have her trust broken.)

I've already spoken on this one.

Let her leave VS She'll Stay

We had unique access to her mind this round. She's not okay. Or maybe she's normal. We don't actually know. Either way she needs to deal with these emotions, and maybe being in proximity of someone who can twist and amplify emotions that is currently mad at Yumika may not be the best way to deal with that problem.

On the other hand, her not showing up at all may be just as destabilizing as her showing up. She's been avoiding Hana all day and then she misses that one time where she is forced to interact with her? This may start the faction war she was worried about without her even being there.

If you don't mind, I'll step in here, let me know if I'm being too confrontational.

I agree that encouraging Yumika into yandere is not fixing the situation in front of us, although I'd be curious if this was the only choice to influence this. A lot of the work we'd gonna need to do to fix this fight is probably on Shinohara's side, in this option.

Yumika vs. Nanami is a legitimately scary Yandere fight, but I think Big Sis vs. Yumika only really ends one way.

This option has he delve back into something she once was and never wants to be again. You'll notice that it refers to actions she took TOWARDS Hana a long time ago. A story that Hana has mentioned in times past, mentioning that it was unpleasant.

I respectfully disagree. Assuming it's this incident or something similar, (which I am because speculating on unseen events will get us nowhere considering we would only have two people's heavily emotionally influenced opinions) it seems like Shinohara is mad because Yumika goes off the handle to protect those she cares about. That's not a bad thing, especially in this case, and I'm not convinced her 'just' trusting us won't provoke Yumika if Maeda does something to us anyway.

If she develops a crush on us, and we pull the trigger on forming a relationship, we're in a unique position to try and help Yumika understand what is and is not reasonable responses to people antagonizing people you like. We could do this as her friend, but as her boyfriend we're in a stronger position, while at the same time teaching her that not everything will work out the worst way every time. If we stick around and don't get mad at her if/when she does do something a bit rash, she'll slowly start to feel better about herself and likely come to us for advice if she considers doing something.

To put it another way; The best way to help Yumika is to maneuver these two into a position where they'll communicate more. A relationship is the perfect way to do that, considering all the other benefits that will come with it.

I mean, it just seems like an enormous waste of potential here, I think. We're too busy for extra work, and Yumika gives favors to her friends anyway.

If it starts a Faction War regardless of her being there, her being there is not going to help matters. If Shinohara starts anything (not that she would), it would be better for Silas to deal with that over Yumika.

Can you be more specific there? What do you think she 'delves back into', and how exactly would this be 'a revision to an earlier time'? What do you believe could happen, whacking Mikado once more for the sake of old times? :V

I don't think she wants to remain a kid with emotional hang ups she got at 14, who refuses to engage with people too closely.
"It's just… it's strange. Yumika-san doesn't reach out to people like she reached out to you very often. Or at all."
[...]
"Between you and me, Yumika-san has a lot of… bad experiences with people who try to flirt with her. She doesn't really... how do I articulate this? She's... she likes being close to people, but only so much. I think the closeness of a real romantic relationship is actually kind of scary to her! Hah. Imagine that. Yumika-san, scared of something. So uncharacteristic of her, right?"
Yumika is afraid of... let's call it overattachment. She is afraid of people leaving her orbit, for whatever reason, and that makes her avoid getting too involved with people she already isn't involved with. Makes me wonder how she got her in-group in the first place.

The split that happened a year ago probably didn't help matters. The graduation coming next year must really scare her.

She is also very controlling. She controls her breathing, her reactions, her emotions... and she has to restrict herself really hard to avoid controlling people "for their own good" even knowing they won't take kindly to it. That might be the other reason she tries not to care too much.

I think a harem that includes a Yandere is a very bad, terrible, no good idea and no sane person would do it. So I'm glad we're all in agreement that that's exactly what should happen to Silas. :V

Chii-kun gon' kill us.

Is there any girl in Silas' vicinity who is not a yandere? Nanami has clingy, jealous and protective traits; BigSis casually jokes about murdering people who as much as look at Silas wrong, and Yumika has just revealed herself in all of her glory.

If Shinohara doesn't show at least some tendencies, I'll be gravely disappoin-- oh wait!
"[...] and she screamed and screamed but there was nothing she could do!" Shinohara slapped her fingers to her cheeks. Her expression was ecstatic. "'HELP ME HELP ME HELP ME!' Hahaaha, oh god, that was funny! 'GET AWAY FROM ME I DON'T WANT TO DIE! NO, NO NO!!' Hahahhaa… hahah... ahaah… hah… ha…"
I think at this point it isn't a mere coincidence, and it's safe to say he attracts the type.

Hmmm. We still have 2 favors from Kei, right? Could we use them to probe him for information on the Foundation/SC? Maeda's group wants to get Silas on board with them, which means they'll have to give him more information eventually anyway, so they might not even mind too much. It would certainly be a rather gutsy move for Silas though.

Reading this conversation has made me seriously question my life choices.

...have I ever mentioned that the core conceit of most of my characters is that they represent flanderized versions of personality traits I perceive myself to have?

Soooo apparently I'm a yandere, then. Huh.

Time to go find someone to stalk obsessively I guess :rofl:

If it helps, you're one of the good yandere!

The thing with quests is that, since we don't know their motivations or any personality traits that they haven't shown us yet, they're essentially double-flanderized. :p

"Sheesh, sheesh! Sorry. I meant nothin' by it. It's an old nickname. It's hard to shake it off, sometimes! I don't even know where I got it from!" She said quickly. Yumika ceased her glaring... out of guilt more than anything else.

So this isn't just Dorima's nickname for Hana. In fact, it sounds like she originally picked it up from Yumika herself:
What, you think you can judge me on something like this? You're quite the person to have an opinion on that, yeah?! What gives you the right to talk to me about what I can do? You think you can just scream at me and… Mocking laughter. ...you're getting off on this, aren't you? Ahaha… I can't believe it. You love it. You're such a nightm… a night...

Oh, you're gonna go there, huh? You're really going to go there. And here I was thinking that you'd grown out of it. Well? Say it. Say it, you coward! Scream it into my ear! 'Nightmare bitch!' 'Nightmare bitch!' That's me, isn't it? That's what you think of me when I'm not around, isn't it? Don't act like you don't know. Say it! SAY IT!

Yeah, Yumika wasn't kidding. She was a real jerk in middle school.

"No, actually. Only Yamigawa-kun. I mean Self Introduction Kid.

On the subject of nicknames, I find it hilarious that she actually remembers Silas' actual name, and then corrects herself with the degrading nickname. She really wants everyone to think she's a jerk, doesn't she?
"Oh what-ever. I don't even care. I already failed the last unit. It's not like this fucking time's gonna see any change," Dorima said. There was a barely-perceptible crack in her voice, and Yumika noticed her suppress a sniffle.

Come on, Dorima. You've already put so much effort into making me hate you. Don't you go making me feel sorry for you now!

"R-Right?! And the sakuga moments in the animation are so… t-they're… they're so…" A cloud washed over Silas's expression. He kept staring at that corner of the room, for some reason. Yumika glanced behind her, but all she saw was a blank Distance Learning monitor.

"Ah… sorry," Silas said slowly. "Now is not t-the time nor place."

The way Silas keeps glancing at the monitors throughout the conversation is a fun little detail. I can't tell if Big Sis is actually there coaching him, or if he just keeps checking the monitors out of habit.

Seeing things form Yumika's perspective pretty much confirms what we thought of her character. She has an obsessive need to involve herself in the problems of others, even when they don't really need help. She gets insanely protective of her friends, and severely overreacts when that friendship is put in danger. Just this one spat is enough to convince her that the entire club is about to fall to pieces around her. And her reactions to thises kinds of problems tend to be very emotionally and quite violent. In short, this girl is incredibly messed up.

[X] [REACT] Yumika lets Silas convince her to go home.

Instead, we should have a harem of all yanderes.
Yes. Then put them all in a single room and wait for the ultimate victor to emerge.
This totally should be one of the endings.

Nooot really... but now that you did, it's going to make the impending waifu wars rather awkward.:D

So this isn't just Dorima's nickname for Hana. In fact, it sounds like she originally picked it up from Yumika herself:
Ha, good catch. I didn't consider this; I thought Yumika was feeling guilty for almost calling Hana that to her face.

Big Sister should be absent this week, though it didn't stop her from checking up on us from time to time.

So, the Waifu wars are going to be which form of @LuciDreamer we prefer?

..
Darn, I think I need to vote for the Harem route.

Edit: As I prefer not to vivisect people. Not even mentally.

I just have this image of Silas managing to trap all the harem Yandere's in a room, only to have them come out some time later and explain that while they were in there, they all fell in love with each other too, and they have managed to work out a deal where they all get Silas all to themselves.

Then there's a jump cut to a very, very crowded ferris wheel booth, with arms and legs and half a military drone sticking out of the windows.

Or, they amalgamate into a single dude thats just really disturbed at the way the world's turned out
