Reminds me of one time I was playing a Shadowrun TTRPG and went to see the neighbours...
they were being attacked by a vampire and my PC died.
let's hope Silas doesn't suffer a similar fate
I think Silas himself wants to go back to Ozzetche? He clearly misses home, and if it is true that Silas Yamigawa is a made up identity, he has kept being Ozzetche a part of it.
He may be less eager to go back to what he has been doing there. "You can influence people so much, if you'd just let me let you" is a very ineresting wording.
I am kinda curious what's keeping him away. Wasn't there a revolution? Unless the revolution was exactly what put Big Sister and whatever the man-in-TV represents in charge of the new Republic, and that is what he was trying to forget.
Silas slowly opened his eyes. His clock read 9:43 and his room was bathed in the warm, inviting glow of the morning sun. It looked to be the trappings of a beautiful day. Morning Reporter Minami herself said so, chirping about how the cold snap seemed to be retreating for now and that warmer temperatures were abound, at least until winter proper. She called it fortuitous how the cold weather seemed to recede just as the week-long RikuRiku holiday was about to end.
...our greatest victories...
He moaned, rolling himself off of his futon.
Even though he had just had a nice, long sleep, he still felt kind of fatigued. His eyes were all droopy. His arms were slow to respond when he tried to tell them to move around. He didn't feel all that great at all, if he was being honest with himself.
Morning Reporter Minami, having concluded her morning report, started listing off news headlines - apparently some Amberrish politicians were hastening a call for an international investigation into the Gama Weather Manipulation Facility - but as Silas stretched out his arms, he saw Big Sister's avatar slowly replace Minami's face on the screen. She smirked.
"Good morning, Silas," Big Sister said.
Silas grinned brightly. "Morning, Big Sis."
"I hope you've had a better night than I, Silas," her avatar sighed. "It has been… well, among other things, eventful." She looked at him warily.
"Actually, if you'd believe it…" Silas closed his eyes. "I don't feel like I've… slept. Well, err, I know I've slept, but I don't feel… rested. Is what I mean to say."
"Really? Hnn… That's awful." Big Sister shook her head. "...do you think you've been having bad… dreams?"
Silas blinked. "I don't think I was dreaming last night."
Or was he? Silas could almost make out the faintest sliver of a memory. A bitter cold. A lifeless control room. But the details flittered away in his mind, and then there was nothing there.
"Hmm. I wish I could help you, but without a tangible problem for me to solve, I'm a bit useless. Forgive me," she bowed her head, remorseful. "Well! I think I can leave you to your own devices for the rest of the day. I will - "
"U-Um…! Wait! You mean you're… going…?" Silas asked, voice uncertain.
"Well yes. Of course. You were - " Big Sister hesitated slightly, and her avatar froze for a few seconds. " - you were fine with me not… being overbearing. Yes?"
"Well yeah. I… well I mean… so soon?" Silas felt an unnerving dread creep over him. "Because… you know…"
"Is there a problem?"
"It's just, I don't feel all too comfortable without you around?" Silas tilted his head. "I don't know. Maybe it's nothing."
"Silas, like I've said, if you ever need anything… I am always watching. Okay? Don't think you're ever alone."
"But that's… hard…" He looked away. "Ah - ! Tonight, I was planning on trying to work with Dreamer on her forum. Can you… be there for me, then?"
"Of course, Silas." Her avatar chuckled. "How could I ever turn you down?"
Her words made Silas's heart soar. "Thanks, Big Sis. I'm… grateful."
She nodded. "Take care, Silas," she said, and then her avatar faded away.
In other news, several left-leaning diet members have made a scathing joint-denunciation of the Pravic government following the Aubern Post exposé claiming that Pravdustanian-funded criminal organizations were deliberately sabotaging humanitarian aid efforts in the periphery.
Silas rolled his eyes, and tried to feel for the remote control underneath his bedsheets. After finding it, he pushed the button, and Morning Reporter Minami's face flickered away.
He stretched out his arms, again, and let out a long, loud yawn. He was another day older. He ought to make the best of it. The crucible of time stopped for no one and all that. He tried to push the odd, scary feeling that he was forgetting something important down into his chest, and let himself out into the morning's frost.
<><><>
Gingerly, Silas knocked on the door.
"Um… hello?" he said, voice soft. There was no answer. He sighed. That was the seventh one so far.
He stumbled back as the door opened. "Wha - oh. U-Um. Hi! Hello!"
A balding man with sunken features and a walking stick was staring at him very crossly. Silas sniffed the air involuntarily; a joint was pressed between the old man's cracked lips, and he smelled vaguely of tobacco. Or was that... marijuana? "What the hell do you want?" he asked. His voice was raspy and cut up by his own rough coughing.
"A-Ah… um…"
Already, the man's scowl was deepening. "Are you Hikari-chan's new delivery boy?"
"N-No…?"
"You have something to sell to me?"
Silas shook his head. "O-Of course not…!"
"...disciple of Miku?" the old man was starting to look confused. "I have no more spare change to give. My pension doesn't arrive until..."
"I-I'm not religious, sir…"
His squinted at him. "...you're sure you're not trying to sell me something?"
Silas looked to his sides. "U-Unless you w-would like to buy my shirt, sir…"
"Are you kidding? The thing's an eyesore and a bastardization of Her image. Miku preserve me," the old man rolled his eyes. "Just… get out. I have no patience for young people today."
"E-Err - "
"Would you like me to ask again?" The old man dangled his walking stick aggressively in Silas's general direction.
"No! No, of course not, sorry, ojii-san."
The old man grunted, gently shutting the door, causing the faint, earthy smell of his joint to waft away. Thoroughly dissatisfied, Silas stepped away.
His next couple of attempts to find a neighbor to talk to were halfhearted at best. Scant few people opened the door for him, and fewer still really seemed to have much interest in conversation. After a while, the sheer emptiness of his entire apartment block started to get to him. Most of the time, it felt like no one was home. Where was everyone?
Silas meets a cranky old man, but that's about it. The option to attempt to meet neighbors remains available.

It had been a long, loooong evening… and Silas wasn't happy about the results. Not at all.
By all means, he thought he had done a good job. He had followed Dreamer's plan to the letter, and had - somehow - managed to convince the subforum to trust him. Dreamer had gotten her access privileges and was bragging into his inbox about how she had successfully cheated the system. It… admittedly left Silas feeling kind of uneasy, but it was okay, he thought. So long as Dreamer was happy, and the people were happy, everything was alright.
And then the site administration caught wind. In what felt like less than half an hour, the whole house of cards went crashing down around him, Dreamer, and Musk-kun. Needless to say, they were all in a world of trouble...
You have one (1) unread conversations.
(SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: Okay. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: Let me get this straight. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: You come up against a problem. That problem being the collapse of order and civility in your subforum, which is something largely outside of your control. This is something I can absolutely empathize with. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: You attempt to address the problem the normal way - banhammers, threadlocking, the works. That only seems to make it worse. Again - I can empathize. Sure, maybe your actions were akin to wielding a sledghammer where a scalpel was needed, but I cannot fault you for being overly defensive. As far as I know, this is your first try at managing a site, after all. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: You "hire" a new "moderator," this YamiOtako fellow, without informing staff and paying him through a third-party online money transfer system. Alright. Now you're starting to tread the line of legality, but again, I can see where you're coming from. The situation has gotten out of hand at this point, and you need extra manpower, and I will admit that site administration was a bit hamstrung this past week thanks to the Amberrish federal election cycle, so I can believe that you would assume that we'd be unhelpful. Doesn't excuse you not asking us, but no matter. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: The problem arises, however, (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: When you decided to hatch a hare-brained scheme to present a sacrificial lamb - yourself, DreamerLuci - to the subforum, and then rule from the shadows via your proxy, YamiOtako. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: And allowing yourself to keep all your old privileges, as well. (SITE ADMIN) Rkon: BY HACKING INTO (SITE ADMIN) Rkon: MY FUCKING (SITE ADMIN) Rkon: WEBSITE (SITE ADMIN) Rkon: AND LEAVING YOURSELF YOUR OWN SPECIAL BACKDOOR (SITE ADMIN) Rkon: THAT ANY SCRIPT KIDDIE WITH HALF A YEAR IN UNIVERSITY-LEVEL CYBERSECURITY COULD FIND FROM THE FUCKING MAIN PAGE IF THEY LOOKED HARD ENOUGH (SITE ADMIN) Rkon: AND THEN FUCKING UP SOMETHING CRITICAL AND EXPOSING THE PERSONAL INFORMATION OF UP TO FOUR FUCKING MILLION USERS TO THE INTERNET AT LARGE VIA THAT SAME FUCKING BACKDOOR!!!!! (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: Rimokon, please, don't over-exaggerate the security breach. Also, come on, we don't have anywhere near four million users. One can dream, though. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: Joking aside, DreamerLuci, what you did was a serious breach of the Code of Conduct and also very illegal in every country that matters. You have forced me to shut down the entire website without warning to implement the emergency code fixes necessary to prevent a privacy breach disaster, and when confronted you denied everything and tried to blame, of all people, a 17-year old who became your, "moderator," not two weeks ago. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: And you, IronicallyMusk, saw all of this and did virtually nothing. In fact, according yo YamiOtako here, you enabled her at some points. As her friend, you should have known how horribly irresponsible she was being, and you should have been there to steady her when she obviously got drunk on her own power. IronicallyMusk: ...yes. I apologize for that. DreamerLuci: How dare you apologize to this cretin. Betrayer. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: And don't think you're free from guilt either, YamiOtako. You participated in this mess, and never stopped to question to yourself, "Hey, wait a minute. Does this sound like something that people could potentially get into a lawsuit over?" I do understand that you were ignorant of the scope of the problems, but the least you could have done was at least try to contact the site staff, the real site staff, and not these two (and pardon my harsh words) bozos when things started to get iffy. You treated your time here like it were a video game. YamiOtako: I am so sorry DreamerLuci: Fucker. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: Needless to say, I am suspending you from Juubun. The whole affair leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Dreamer, I put a lot of trust in you, and you have let me down in a horrific fashion. (SITE ADMIN) Rkon: We should have sacked you the second we learned that you tampered with your site profile to give yourself the title "Site Director," despite the fact that such a thing does not exist. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: In all fairness, I found it funny. (SITE ADMIN) Rkon: Senpai, not the time. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: How many times do I have to ask you not to call me that? YamiOtako: So… we're not welcome on the forum anymore? DreamerLuci: Wait a minute what. No. nonono . u can't do this to me YamiOtako: Will we still be able to participate in the Quests? IronicallyMusk: Wait, hang on a minute, I have a lot of projects on here, I can't just abandon them. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: Let me append my statement. I am suspending you, DreamerLuci, specifically. I'll get to the two of your punishments in private. DreamerLuci: yo what the hell you cant do trhis to me isnt there some sort of court sysmth this has to go to u fucking tyrant bitchface (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: DreamerLuci, in all honesty, you are probably the most hated person on the site right now. If I were to put you through the spectre of public opinion, you would be eviscerated, and everything you have touched would get burnt in the oncoming fire. This would include your two friends here, and probably the reputation of the entire Alt History subforum. I cannot in good conscience put any of you through that, as satisfying as it might be for Rimokon here. It will be easier for everyone if we just removed you without spectacle. DreamerLuci: nno DreamerLuci: i didnt think (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: And that besides, we're not talking about a behavioral infraction here, Dreamer. Although if it was, judging by your past behavior, as well as your behavior in this very conversation, I would still probably have to ban you forever for violating rule number 1 - Be Civil. No - this is about you committing a number of crimes against the Senporo Coalition, which under normal circumstances should lead to me contacting the nearest International Digital Crimes Court and pressing charges for criminal negligence, violation of the Universal Data Privacy Act, unlawful handling of Coalition funds - oh yes, and don't think we didn't notice that. What were you thinking when you redirected IronicallyMusk's donation box to yourself, by the way?! IronicallyMusk: ...what. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: Needless to say, I don't want to do that. You're a minor, as far as I can tell, and this whole mess is at least partially my fault. I shouldn't have given you this much power to begin with. IronicallyMusk: Hang on, can we return to the donation box thing. I am more impressed than anything. YamiOtako: I don't think that's the focus right now, Musk-kun… (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: Anyway. That is my reason for suspending you: It is, to be frank, the least I could do. We will not be pressing charges, we will not let your reputation burn everything you've touched to the ground, and in return, you are not welcome back onto the forum again. Do I make myself clear? IronicallyMusk: She's gone. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: ? IronicallyMusk: I'm… sitting next to her computer. She just stormed off. (SITE ADMIN) Rkon: You should probably go after her. We'll… continue this later, probably. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: In the meantime, YamiOtako, I just sent a PM to you. I'd like to talk to you. Alone.
You have one (1) new alert! User PrincessMio has invited you to a private conversation.
YamiOtako: Um. YamiOtako: Hi. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: Okay. Let's get to the chase. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: First off, I would like to say that I believe you've done a great job with what you were given. For the four or so hours that you were the, "Site Director," of the Alt History subforum, you behaved calmly and managed to turn an awful situation into a stable one. You cleared that subforum's report backlog and resolved a number of support tickets on your own initiative. You made several wise decisions regarding temporary user bans and even thread locks, although you stumbled more than once. You, apparently, had no knowledge whatsoever of the site civility rules, yet you followed them anyway. How much of that was up to luck I really do not know, but still, I applaud you. You survived. YamiOtako:Thank you? I thought I was being punished? (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: Let me finish. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: Your actions are, of course, not free from reproach. I've had to deal with at least four upcomplaints. In an egregious example, you very blatantly favored one user over another during a debate of politics. YamiOtako: ...sorry. I have a very low tolerance for that kind of person. I might have let my rage blind my judgement... (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: Well, if you're ever in the forum in the future, I'd advise you to keep your rage in check. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: Anyway, in spite of your rather sterling record, I'm afraid your working relationship with Jubuun is over. You've done well, but a combination of the circumstances surrounding your, "employment," and the fact that I have reservations about having minors work in moderation staff means I just can't in good conscious keep you hired here. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: I'm having someone from the financial department send you an email. Since you were *technically* an employee of Senporo for a period of time, we need your name and banking info for recordkeeping, as well as to settle some legal matters. Are you aware of the letter of the Worker's Protections and Compensations Act? YamiOtako: No? (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: Cool. YamiOtako: I'm sorry for having disappointed you. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: Please, you didn't. (SITE ADMIN) PrincessMio: Truth is, this whole experiment shouldn't have begun in the first place. Moderation, especially on a site like this, where things regularly get heated and political, shouldn't be left to people so young. Frankly I'd have a hard time trusting half of the adults at my place of work with such a job. You did what you could.
"For all the posturing… she is correct."
Big Sister climbed above the window box and wedged herself in between the tabs. "I believe she's being awfully fair."
"Yeah… I know she is. It still makes me feel oddly dissatisfied with myself."
"I don't suppose you want me to tell you about the inherently chaotic nature of the condition of man?" Big Sister rocked her legs on the tabs a few times before losing her balance suddenly and - "Eep" - falling into the invisible space behind Silas's web browser.
Silas gigglesnorted. "Ehehe… yeah, nevermind. I guess I'm just happy no one's angry… at me… too much, anyway. And it's all thanks to you, Big Sis!"
Laboriously, Big Sister climbed back up through the browser tabs. "I disagree. I didn't have that much of an…"
"No, no, Big Sis, without you this would have been an even bigger mess! I'm sure of it." He sighed, and stretched his arms. A curious, troubled expression seemed to cross through Big Sister's face, but Silas paid it no mind. "I wonder how DreamerLuci's taking all of this…?"
"I, for one, hope she's feeling humbled. The girl was too confrontational and ambitious for her own good."
"Huahh…? Big Sis, so harsh."
"It's merely my opinion. My magnanimous opinion, but an opinion all the same." Big Sister's avatar waddled over to the edge of the browser window and clicked the minimize button, causing her to fall in the direction of the taskbar… but her body grew and grew, taking up all of the space on Silas's monitor until her face covered the desktop. She smiled slightly. "If I remember correctly, you have a very important meeting tomorrow. Best you get ready for that."
Silas's nose turned slightly pink. "O-Oh, right! Yeah. That. With Yuuko-san. I hope she's in… a better mood."
Big Sister muttered an affirmative, and powered off Silas's computer. Silas yawned, flopping onto his futon. An overall productive day… more or less, anyway.
His sleep was blissful and dreamless. As it should be.
He would come to miss that feeling of bliss quite sorely in the coming days.

The forum action succeeded! Unfortunately, Dreamer's plan caught the attention of the site administration. Silas is now jobless, and, as a result, DreamerLuci has been removed from the Character Database. IronicallyMusk appears to have disappeared into the Internet. Silas may never see them again.
On a completely unrelated note, Silas received the following email from his bank:

Tomorrow, Silas meets Yuuko for her "Test of Courage." This will be an Event.
Should Silas make any specific plans for the event?
[] No. He will attend to test of courage and see if it fazes him. Surely it can't be… that… bad… right? And even if it turns out to be something threatening, Silas's iron courage will see him through. (No effect.)
[] Silas sees no reason to go into this all cloak-and-daggery. He will attend the event as if it were a social gathering, and try to get closer to Maeda and her clique. (Silas rolls for three Talk social actions, one each for Maeda Kirino, Yuuko Takahashi, and Kei Tachibana. Standard DC.)
[] Silas absolutely has good reason to act very cloak-and-daggery. Just about everyone in Maeda's clique is wrapped in suspicion. He'll treat them as such. (Silas rolls for three Observe intrigue actions, one each for Maeda Kirino, Yuuko Takahashi, and Kei Tachibana. Standard DC. +1 to succeed.)
[] There's something fishy going on, no matter how affable Yuuko might be. Before the Test of Courage starts, Silas will try to find out what, exactly, Yuuko is going to subject him to. (Silas rolls for INT, DC 16. On a failure, no effect. On a success, ???)
Should Big Sister helicopter Silas during all of this?
[] Why not? (Big Sister will be present during the Test of Courage.)
[] ...Silas can do this himself. Right? (Big Sister will not be present during the Test of Courage.)
So! New thing here.
I'm changing Events entirely from a structured mechanic to more of a… QM fiat kind of deal. Events will now be occasions where you will get to choose the specifics of what Silas does during the event, which may or may not trigger dice rolls. Thanks to the new dice throwing mechanics, I can do this without tearing my hair out in frustration! Also, be aware that, for every event, I may decide to through dice at you without telling you first. In short, the whole system has become much more abstract! Making rules for the sake of rules was never a good idea, anyway.
This is sort of a test to see how this goes. If I don't like it, we might go back to the old system.
Sooo, I've been gone for a while. Sorry about that! My family was in the Philippines for two weeks, and then when we came back it was already time to move into my dorm, and for the first couple of days I had to learn how to live with other people in one confined space. It was pretty stressful! Not to mention the start of classes, which is its own brand of terrifying. Apparently I, in all my wisdom, decided that it was a great idea to put myself through three Physics classes in one day: a Recitation, a Lecture, and a Lab. *pitiful crying*
I'm not sure how much consistency I can promise from now on, with classes starting and about to get busy. I'm not exactly the most reliable writer on this site, after all, heh... but, I'll do the best I can.

YES! You're back! Awesome. Sadly, we lost DreamerLuci; I liked them, even if they were a bit machiavellian. Also, if at all possible, could we have Big Sister taking part, but in an observatational function only? As if, well, she was a friend? I don't want to exclude her; if I just don't want her to be the emergency nuke Silas could trigger if he fails.
Also, if at all possible, could we have Big Sister taking part, but in an observatational function only? As if, well, she was a friend? I don't want to exclude her; if I just don't want her to be the emergency nuke Silas could trigger if he fails.
The problem with that is that Big Sister exists through observation. Having her around, even if just as a friend, would be no different than telling her to shadow Silas's every move and trigger the nuclear scuttling device if Silas is in harm's way. She'll do it regardless, because if she sees, she will act. She can't not act; it goes against her rules.
Hmmm. DreamerLuci is probably Silas' age? I wonder if she's someone we already know, like Dorima or something?
Edit:
We have a -2 to spying on them, and a -1 to social. I kind of want to try the Int roll, although we'll need a 15 to succeed if I understand the mechanics correctly (DC 16, +1 from Int). Failing it has no consequences, which is nice.
Not sure what to think about treating this as a social encounter. On the one hand, 3 chances to succeed an encounter. On the other hand, that's also 3 chances to fail one (and a -1 to rolls). Do we think that succeeding a Talk action is more impactful than failing one?

As far as Big Sis goes... I'm just gonna hope she doesn't nuke anything.
[X] Why not? (Big Sister will be present during the Test of Courage.)
"Hey, Big Sis?"
"Yes, Silas?"
"You realize that if you nuke someone who's trying to mug me, I'll die too, right?"
"..."
LuciD, you have the most bizzare ability to post updates when I'm unusually irritated. Like, you must be psychically linked to me or something.
Not saying this as a bad thing, of course, you've got no real way of knowing, but as a curiosity. It's actually kind of good, I guess, because reading this requires me to war with my inner Amy Dallon which helps fizzle it out. So...
Yeah, I dunno what to do with that.
I'm tired, after getting frothing mad at the Precise Definition of a Limit for what's sure not to be my last time, so I can't really do a good overview post like I'm sure Neville is cooking up, but I'm curious to see if we see any IRL repercussions from DreamerLuci getting the axe. Would seeing if Dorima is more irritable than usual take an Observe action, or would it be something Silas could just notice? We do kind of skip a lot of time, and I don't think that it would take more than five minutes of looking to say "Yup, that there's an angry SCP."

we're with totally normal no danger here friends, right?

I wouldn't count on the algorithm too much. After all, right now its trying to convince me that PNHS and Terminus Quest are related.
...I mean, the similarities are so obvious! Terminus is a grand strategy thriller about a diamond in a rough civilization, a single, lush garden world in a metaphorical ocean of dead space rocks and ruins of civilizations, struggling desperately to survive against a homogenizing swarm while at the same time managing their diplomatic relationships with the decadent Citadel that left them behind (well not really but I like that narrative so I'm sticking to it) and the upstart Alliance that's doomed to splinter apart the second the Out of Context threat is defeated, all the while desperately trying to make sure the economy doesn't explode and that political factionalization doesn't destroy the country and that the military remains at the cutting edge while also having enough ships to make up for attrition losses and attending to the internal affairs of the nation like taxes and healthcare and bureaucracy reform and the POV character's girlfriend and .
Meanwhile, PNHS... is about a highschooler trying to become friends with the members of his Drama club and maybe date one of them if given the chance.
