The Perfectly Normal High School: A Slice of Life Quest! (Defunct)

EXAMPLE: Kei Tachibana
[] [SOCIAL] CHAR: Plan an outing with a friend: Maeda-senpai
-[] Intended Turn: Next Weekend
-[] Location: Cupcake Sensei
-[] Event: Celebrate Yuuko's Birthday

Glad they're back to having fun. Might be worth checking out Cupcake Sensei this weekend. Just coincidentally.
EXAMPLE 2: Dorima Shiryu
[] [SOCIAL] CHAR: Plan an outing with a friend: Allen-kun
-[] Intended Turn: Whenever I damn well feel like
-[] Location: Let Make him choose
-[] Event: Don't care

Any bets on how long until these two become an official couple? I'm going with three weeks.
EXAMPLE 3: Mikado
[] [SOCIAL] CHAR: Invite a friend home: Kirino
-[] Intended Turn: Second half of Week 5
-[] Event: Apology Dinner
-[] Spend Two Favors

Aw, Mikado's little crush is cute. I wonder what he's apologizing for. Movie night, or something else?

Whew, okay, I think my fingers have stopped jittering from the overconsumption of fruit punch and ice cream. Sooo... responses!

@veekie, don't worry, I'll try to put the original spoilered version back up sometime tonight or tomorrow morning. I kept all the original Character sheet's text, just not any of the formatting.

Hmm yea. As if she needed a pretext.
Hey Nanami, you interested?
Does she need a pretext @LuciDreamer or will she just do whatever?

That's up for Shinohara to decide. Silas is going to have to ask her to find out! The act of inviting in it of itself cannot fail, but depending on Shinohara's schedule or plans she might propose a different event location or time or place...

...I really want to try my best to simulate how these kinds of things work out in real life. Heh. :<

oh and Lucid, could we have the country expansions put into informational?

Oh, sure! Lemme just go dig that out from whatever hidey-hole I've hid that in... oh wow, that alliterated. Sweet.

In unrelated news... do we really need two separate actions? They depend on the same stat, and follow a similar structure with the single exception that the invitation has a fixed Location: Home. Otherwise they both can be neatly rolled under 'Invite a friend to hang out'.

Mechanically, inviting someone out is going to have a completely different range of ST modifiers than inviting someone home. See, for outings, I'm going to roll dice for a bunch of environmental factors - dice that are functionally entirely out of your control. Of course, Silas's social traits and CHAR and COUR will also factor in depending on where he plans to go and what he plans to do, but advantages brought about by these have the potential to be offset by something like bad weather, or the atmosphere of the venue not being right, or a political demonstration nearby ruining the mood, etcetera. Despite the dangers, outings will have more of an effect than inviting someone home.

So basically, outings are more interesting, but more risky.

Home, on the other hand, is a controlled environment, so ST modifiers will be more predictable. And, in Silas's case, they would be bad.

...reaallly bad.

One thing that I noticed from the Char Sheet...

Does this apply to our invite action, @LuciDreamer?
I may be swayed to change the location of our event to another place, if so.

Yeeeeeep. Inviting someone home may invariably lead to him attempting to show off his new game to them, which probably won't bode well, because that would probably just devolve to him playing the game instead of paying attention to his guest...

I'm speaking from personal experience. So... yeah.

This is very much WiP, so if you have a question or a discrepancy please feel free to stamp this post DENIED and return it to me for re-evaluation. Also, please feel free to drown me in questions - it's my job to have an answer for them all, after all!

what @LuciDreamer?
the text here is about Yumika not Shinohara, though I will admit I did just say "she".
No, not these lines, the original quoted message
Though sometimes you just have to read Between the lines

I mean, if you just replace "Shinohara" with "Yumika" in his answer the result is probably still about right.

I get that,
In my mind I had been clear that Yumika was the one with the Causus Belli, but upon rereading my statement and the statement I was quoting, it becomes quite clear there are two ways to read it.

I assume - will be coming with us wherever we go. She's struck me as pretty limpet-ey in nature, so...

I dunno, she seems busy. Besides, her coming along is far less exciting then her interacting with Silas. And you know, invalidating a chat with Hanamura.
Plotting to mess with/assist/whatever "-" is doing has to take some deal of ti-
Nanami, not believing her luck, pumped her fist into the air and quietly whispered a few words of cheer. Her elaborate plan, which she didn't even know she had until about three minutes ago, had worked! Flawlessly, even! Quickly, though, she slinked away, with a head full of fresh ideas...
never mind.

Looks like Hanamura is locked in, with YumiHana combo vying for the 2nd place with RakuRiku. :p
YumiHana actually has 7 people in favor, but they can't agree with each other over where to meet and what to talk about.

In light of a -20 ST modifier due to Silas being a game addict, I am favoring switching away from our home as a rendezvous point, and changing it to a Hypermall event.

Now, can we settle on the details?
1) When do we want the outing to take place - a weekend, or during a week in place of an AS slot
2) What do we want out of it - just hang out, or something more substantial. Personally, I want to ask Shinohara if she noticed anything strange about the Student Council, and, Yumika willing, bring her on the conspiracy. Or is it counter-conspiracy? Oh, and have fun at the RikuRiku event, of course.

I am open to hearing why it might be not that great of an idea, and to the counter-suggestions.

Not sure on all the details, but I feel like we might as well go ahead and do this now if we want to do it at all. Is there some benefit you can see to delaying it?

Not a benefit, per se... It's just that if we go to an event, common sense dictates that the organisers will go all out on a weekend, as that's when there will be a lot of people. The crowds are smaller on working days, no? So we are more likely to see something grander or more memorable... which should help with keeping our little group happy and together.

(Of course, Silas is not a big fan of crowds, so there is that. To keep in mind what was said about the external factors)

Having a whole day free would probably be better if we have a lot to talk about. Just going to an event is one thing, but if we want to talk about something, be it Drama stuff or the Student Council business, it's best not to do everything at the same time.

As this is his first 'big social event' with the first friends he made in four years, and it coincides with a once-in-a-year event, Silas would want it to go flawlessly, which might require a bit of mental preparation on his part. Boots waxed, hair combed, tie tied, you name it. A weekend just sounds more fitting for a special occasion.

I'm...not sure we want to make a big thing of this, with Big Sis unavailable & Silas already stepping out of his comfort zone. Maybe try and ease him into things a bit instead? Home is not a good idea on account of the -20 ST, but I feel like doing something relatively relaxed and effort-light would be better to avoid inflicting even more stress.

@LuciDreamer Would it be possible to ask Big Sis to disable Merika for the expected time period?
Obviously she's leaving but that doesn't seem like an intensive diversion.

otherwise, yes, home might not be the best place, I had forgotten about the "Level Grinding" ST penalty.
Out of all the other options Wyrm's seems the best, since we will still have another social action, and just seems like an incredibly Silas thing to do.
...
Uh, when is the vote lock anyways?

Would it be possible to ask Big Sis to disable Merika for the expected time period?

Uh...psychologically speaking, almost certainly not. Silas doesn't recognize his level-grinding as a problem; if he did, it would likely be significantly less of one.

Well, you'll notice that I am a big proponent of dragging Silas out of his comfort zone. So far I've voted to enlist him in Kendo club, talk to Shinohara who at first freaked him out somewhat fierce, take up Acting as a hobby, and separate him from Big Sister's vitrual tit (although in light of the latest updates I am not sure if the last one would be good for them). That's because his idea of a comfort zone is to be a self-deprecating socially stunted Internet addict hiding behind Big Sis' broad digital shoulders.

But don't believe me and listen to the best Friendship Specialist on our roster:
"Good, good…" Evil Yumika giggled, a familiar yet dissonant facsimile of normal Yumika's lighthearted giggle. It sent a shiver down Silas's spine. "Now… the one thing you have to understand, Sai-kun, [...] Is that professionals like I am, and like you will be, have to learn how to… adapt to stressful scenarios. We often don't have the freedom to pick and choose who we have to act out - we have to be flexible."
[...]
"Sweet." Evil Yumika pushed back into her seat, and suddenly she was Yumika again. She giggled a bit guiltily, forming a little tent with her two index fingers. "Ah… sorry, by the way, if you're a bit creeped out by this. I need my practice too! And I figured that you responded well to stress and tension. I think I was right!" she said, proudly.
Silas does respond favorably to stress, particularly because his 'Low Self-Esteem' trait makes him constantly underestimate his true capabilities, which could only be brought out by pushing his perceived limits.

I am likely to continue pushing this angle and keeping Silas off his balance that he has found in four years of his shut-in life. I actively want Yumika to push us into a spotlight at some of RikuRiku's public events (do they hold contests?), and I want Silas to talk to people like Dorima, Allen and Hanamura so that he would develop appropriate responses when similar situations arise in the less controllable environments.

I broadly agree that Silas needs to be pushed out of his comfort zone, and that some amount of stress is good for him. The key phrase there, however, is "some amount" - as you say, we've already been pushing this angle pretty hard, so I'm proposing we exercise some caution to avoid going overboard. Doing anything without Big Sis as backup is stressful & new for Silas. Inviting people out for a social meetup - especially in an unfamiliar space - is stressful & new for Silas. Stacking up the pressure of a Big EventTM on top of that just seems...excessive. Dosis venenum facit.

That's true of most problems, actually. There are exceptions (ie, sucking chest wounds), but they're the exception rather than the norm.

I agree, and I feel like Big Sister would agree, too. (To some extent.) But you have to keep in mind, we're not Silas's parents or even Big Sister (right now)—we're Silas, and Silas is quite comfortable in his comfort zone. That's why it's called a comfort zone.
What fun is there in roleplaying a flawed human being if we're just going to ignore his flaws and force him into a perfect-person mold ASAP?

The funny thing is, we are not. Hanamura would attest to that. :p
Well, yes. But when choosing these actions for Silas, I prefer to try and think like Silas. Because that's how roleplaying works, you know?

I find it perfectly entertaining to throw him overboard and watch him try to swim.
So do I, but I prefer it when it makes sense for him to throw himself overboard (or for other characters we control to do so).

I expect the SC will force Silas "overboard" at some point, followed by holding him under until the bubbles stop coming up. Assuming we don't join them or something.

With that said, given LuciD (see, I read the A/Ns) has weighed in that home will have a non-insignificant chance of Silas fucking off to play Merika, I begrudgingly accept that it's probably not a good idea. While it seems super appropriate for a shady conspiracy between schoolchildren to start in a non-descript apartment... Maybe it should happen somewhere else instead.

Not cupcake sensei though. There's no way that place isn't laced with enough bugs to make Gonta flinch.

[X] Nevill

I'm passing you my vote because I'm on the road and probably can't vote for myself.

Alright. Putting the question of 'when' aside for the moment, what do we want the event to be about?

Spectrum wants us to chill.
Karnewarrior wants us to plot 'compare notes'.
GreatWyrmGold wants something in-between.
The rest have voted for 'Federation Formation', whatever that means. Which I vaguely understand as 'bond over stuff'.

What exactly do we want on the Federation's agenda?
