The Path Unending (A Cultivation Quest)

[X] There are several volumes of primers meant for neophyte Servants. They are supposed to help ground new walkers of the Path, but you can use their insights to further refine your breathing technique. (Cost: 2 Bronze Talents. Benefit: +1 Knowledge (Cultivation). Procs a follow-up vote to select Breathing Technique Refinements.)

I think we should ask for a Fire/Wind Archer tech. Maybe having both of Smoke's constituent aspects will make it easier to add it with insights?

The five talent 2nd grade tech option is a good economic choice. However, I have my doubts the offered list will contain the perfect Fire / Archer / WIT technique some envision here.Still, even if we never find the time to integrate it, we might find someone else to sell or trade it to. Because make no doubt, after integrating Plume, StM, SotP, WC and an Earth Tech from the Sect we will likely move on to the Farmer step. By which point 2nd Grade techs will have a hard time staying relevant.

We can guarantee it'll be a fire archer tech at least, if it's Wit or not will just depend on Ves.

And Kumi mentioned once that she wishes she had integrated more than 6 techniques before going to Farmer so integrating more techs, esp easier ones like Grade 2s, should only help out farmer step progress.

[X] Mockingjay's Archives have no shortage of minor techniques that are tested and true. You will use this opportunity to fill a void in your arsenal. (Cost: 5 Bronze Talents. Benefit: Gain a Grade Two technique. Procs a follow-up vote to select Type and Aspect (Limited to the Basic Eight).)

I've been want to do technique shopping for ages.

Of the two long-term benefit, yet lower cost options, I feel a new tech is probably the most useful. Beyond the technique itself, we get to integrate it and maybe even gain some insights. Add the fact that we get to chose a technique that we can fuel easily with the wonders we know, I feel this is a standout decision.

Well all our tech's + Xiong's recommendation puts us a 7 so that takes care of that for me. With Exploration, Warrens, Charms crafting and socials also on the table I don't see the space or need for more techs. I fear we will not get around to this tech, should it only proof of avg. quality. However as stated it is still a solid economic choice.

We've also got no way to level up Warhound's Cry without Nokai. I'm definitely down to hang out with her more, but I'd rather we didn't hinge our cultivation on someone else if we could help it.

[X] Of course, you do not have to spend time discovering the hidden knowledge of Mockingjay yourself! They have several Archivists on staff who are here just to help people seek what they need. But they don't work for money. No, they only take other knowledge in trade. (Cost: A record of Blooming Spear of the Auroch. Benefit: Gain a Grade Two technique of a randomly chosen uncommon aspect.)

Spin that mystery wheel bb. Also pretty sure we have more uncommon than basic anam spots at this point, could go right into our wheelhouse.

Yeah, we havent really even touched warhounds cry, nor have we really tried to do things to germinate insights for the aurochs. We dont need another tech to pick up.

Much rather get the permanent passive buff that will always help us.

I do want another tech. But even though it's a "practical choice" (when exactly will we find the time to master the tech and gain the benefits that makes it practical?) I have no desire for low-grade filler techs.

Techs can grow, though, and lower-end techs are probably somewhat easier to get insights for. Plus a Fire tech would be pretty easy to integrate, which could increase one of our stats and would likely come with at least one other benefit at the halfway point. Plus more techs means it'll be easier to carve channels.

As a reminder, our available natural wonders back at the Delving Heart are as follows:

A Second of Eternity (Time 25)
The Prospector's Tears (Earth/Water/Mud 75)
The Black Anvil (War 50)
The Bathhouse (Water/Fire/Steam 200)
The Twice-Forged Thicket (Steel/Wood 125)
The Firesnake's Coil (Fire/Smoke 50)

We also have a small amount of smoke/fire/wind and a larger amount of royalty from treasures, and the possibility of more aspects being found on the road - just recently there was the Wood/Life/Peace wonder available to us, for example.

[X] The Archivists keep the truly rare gems to themselves. For one of those to fall into your hands you will have to show them something that will rock their foundations. (Cost: A record of Shatter the Mirror. Benefit: Gain randomly aspected Grade Four technique.)

I feel like Grade 2 is the worst of all worlds. It's likely to be too weak to use seriously in combat, and it won't be something we have a Treasure for, meaning it's going to be a time sink for modest benefits. 5 talents is not a small cost either.

I don't think this will be our last or best opportunity to pick up a technique on the trip, either. There will be bosses to fight, and inspiration is a source of techs

it's the same tier as Auroch to start with. Filler would be t1. t2 is the bread and butter for soldiers.

And were it not for Zhi's knack for melee combat, Auroch's would be filler too.

Sure, but techs are slow and difficult to grow. So at what point would it actually become practical?

mhm, 5 talents is... were going to honey drenched hills and whatever future locations may hold or the new path we take home may be their will always be something interesting or useful to spend talents on.

for a tier 2 tech at that which we'll have to rely on insight to make it not filler is meh and time we'll have to spend cycling it i meh as well when it won't even apply to our core.

So Shadow of the prince, a technique given to us by Siani himself from his personal library is fodder? Because it's a t2 tech. So Hummingbird's dance our main way of self-defense is fodder? It's t2 as well. So Stallion's Enclosed Garden is utter trash because it is only a t1? Techniques are not doing to be fodder simply because they are low ranked. If we get a one that is worthwhile to filling wholes in our abilities? It is well worth the cost, and frankly right now people are aiming for either a Wind or a Fire tech specifically because we can hopefully level them up easily due to beign basic AND having a treasure for them in the interim.

For future time related shenanigans

Something I will point out is that most of our techs cost a lot to use. Having some options that don't cost an arm and a leg in terms of anam would be a good thing - it's not filler just because it's not as powerful as all the techs that cost us 3-5 anam to use.

SotP is Grade 3 and SEG is Grade 2, just FYI. But Grade 2 is hardly bad, as shown by SEG.

Shadow of the Prince is Grade 3, Hummingbird's Dance is indeed on the weaker side because it's Grade 2, and SEG is G2.
