(no I am not feeling the least bit generous since he is the one who hurt Frederick when the latter just tried to help).
What he said was entirely accurate. Frederick (Acting as an extension of the thread) has had a near sociopathic obsession with treating Syr and Tormod as baby incubators first and people second since day one. I distinctly remember a large reaction towards first finding about Tormod's life expectancy was "Disregard him and try again".

Funny how he was not upset at all the advantages of effectively being a prince gave him, but talk of responsibility that he might find distasteful was enough to get him to cut off Frederick when he needs supoort the most.
I'm sure he'd be quite happy being dead if that were the case like the majority of avernites his age, and talk of responsibility, to what?

To continue a bloodline doesn't need to continue since that necessity up and died with his mom.

And no don't twist the facts he cut Rotbart off after Rotbart went and insulted him for not immdiately jumping to do his "duty" after his mother got eaten alive by Tyranids, basically making Rotbart look exactly like he said, an imperial noble interested only in continuing his bloodline by any means necessary.

And yeah its not nice that he's cut off Rotbart, but Rotbart is so good at surpressing his emotions and burrying himself in work he's basically a robot, so he's fine as unhealthy as that is.

You appear to have misunderstood me, it is not a case of me being angry at Tormod, I simply believe that lashing out in this moment disqualifies him from being made governor of Avernus. I'd still vote to mend bridges with him for Frederick's sake.
Apparently, I have, but it doesn't change me being annoyed at people attacking him personally for not sitting up and taking his shit.

Especially since Tormod himself, doesn't consider himself the best candidate!

I distinctly the remember a large reaction towards first finding about Tormod's life expectancy was "Disregard him and try again".
Oh it was and it was horrible.

It is strange how Avernus is the planet that kept the most stereotypical imperial gpvernment: A guy appointed by the Administratum.

Our unique government could easily be a meritocracy.

what responsibility? from his point of view (and the point of view of 90% of Avernus) if he doesnt have a kid to inherit then the most competent will be chosen. The Governorship being hereditary is actually considered a potential issue by some Avernite Academics due to the fact that literlly everything else is merit based and if a situation comes up where there is a obviously better choice outside of the Royal Family there could be major problems

The responsibility that is implicit to a good bit of the world outside Avernus, most specifically Vanaheim. Being unable to look past his own cultural prejudices does not a great governor make. He should not even be upset at being struck from the list of potential successors after all given his reasons for being upset in this instance.

It is for the most part, at least a type of one.

Hence the concerns with the govenor's position potentially not being one.

Why the fuck should he care about what Vanaheim thinks when he's talking about what's happening on Avernus?

They do it that way, cool, sucks to be them we do it this way I think its better and most avernites would back him up!

And again, HOW IS BEING DISTRAUGHT AT THE LOSS OF YOUR MOTHER AND YOUR FATHER TRYING TO FORCE YOU INTO MARRIAGE REASONS NOT TO BE UPSET?

If he cut off all contact and buggered off to live with the dragons, maybe but that's not what's happened.

And you know, screw him for being upset and wanting to be seen as a person rather than a peice of meat and no it is Rotbart's fuck up

Pretty explicitly.
Not Tormod, Rotbart, he made the hurting
Oh come off of it. The operative word there is 'whether'. Rotbart phrased a question badly. He didn't demand and insist. Yeah- his mom died. And he basically told the person who only has him left to go fuck off. Any lick of empathy would reveal that Rotbart has buried so many people he's loved and respected over the years and is terrified of being alone.

Henry, his wife, Ajax, Lin. How many people can Frederick actually expect to treat him as a person rather than have to treat in an official role or deal with a populace who's impressions of him prevent any personal bonds from forming? That Tormod is still too caught up in things to realize that Fred could never be an Avernite because they've placed him on a absurd pedestal? Being Fred fucking sucks.

Seriously, it's like Klovis, Odysseus, Jane, and Ridcully. The latter two are always busy and have their own crushing weights to deal with, and Klovis while I like to consider something of a friend has his own agenda and everyone involved sort of knows that.

of the original 9 worlds 3 have hereditary rulers,4 have meritocratic rulers and 1 is strange

How does Muspelheim choose the champion that leads them?

Edit: that answers that.

If inheritance really is that important, can't we just adopt and train someone? Instead of it being genetic, adoption could come to mean you are being trained to govern.

you mean only has him, his older brother and his older brothers wife, their 3 chidlren, his aunt and her son. Yes Fred has not other family at all

To add to this, Rotbart has four centuries of this shit under his belt and has lost people over a far longer period of time and has become an expert at burrying that grief to the point its basically invisible, he's used to burrying the dead, Tormod is 50 years old lost both his parents in 17 years and lost Lin who he was very close too in the middle of that on top of all the other shit and deaths he deals with on a daily basis in greater quantities than any other avernite.

Because that is what the heir to the governorship should do, the fact that he does not disqualifies him for the job. it really is that simple for me.
Why should he do that he's not Vanir.

He's under no obligation to get married like one and he's under no obligation to think about their concerns when or if he gets married, just as he has right to judge how they do it unless he marries one otherwise I'm not even sure what you're arguing or how that is disqualifying.

Oh no the Vanir tabloids are pissed! The eternal shipping war of the Rotbart bloodline's getting interupted!

This is gonna be a weird statement, but I really like that nat 1.

Sure, it's painful, but as a storyline the idea of a lord of a planet, disconnected from its people and his own bloodline, trying to connect and speak with the last remaining (genetic) member of his family and fucking it up due to grief and stress buried under his unhealthy coping mechanisms is pretty sympathetic, and a good turning point for him to try and consider what the bloodline really means to him, to consider not only duty, but the people themselves. Because we've already settled people on a goddamn deathworld to make soldiers. If we have to sacrifice everything that makes us human to win, I don't think we've won at all, and by the end, when Rotbart dies, he'll need to confront himself and ask if sacrificing himself upon the altar of duty was truly worthwhile. Sometimes that answer has to be no.

You are being a bit glib here, it's not about the tabloids, it's about the general expectations of all Vanir nobles which if brushed off with a summary 'us Avernites are better, meritocracy all the way' would only increase the abrasiveness of Avernite arrogance.

To be honest I never really got the thread's obsession with having dynasty when our planet is super meritocratic. Like it just seems like forcing standard square CK2 stuff through a round hole at this point.

[X] Give up and hang yourself.

Seriously, Avernus doesn't need Fred anymore(even with all those high stats). And Tormod can go do his own thing. Quest closes. The End.

And he somehow forgot that his grandparents were wed in an arranged marriage which the expectation from the Vanaheim side that there would be hereditary rule. He is ignoring the concerns of the governorship in exchange for his own personal expectations, while also cutting off Frederick in his moment of grief and depression. Still no sympathy on my side.
Mistakes happen. The big test is how it's handled afterwards.

Why?

The expectation ended with Syr, Tormod would be expected to inherit in the Asgard way if in anyway.

And guess what their way of inheritance is very meritocratic with the most qualified members of their government getting together and beating the piss out of each other in a series of tests to determine who is best and marry those they consider qualified.

So yes I was being glib but I ask again why is Vanaheim important in this? Their major interest in ended in Syr and who our leader is, to them is also elected, even if who they can be isn't.

It'd be utmost arrogance and hypocrasy on their part to accuse us of arrogance here if they want to interfear with how we do things like inheritence.

While this does suck it does touch upon the idea to begin scouting for an heir in case that something happens to Fred. Tormod wants it to be meritocratic so there should be no issues there and everybody can rest more easily with the position secure.
