Yeah, but the time for us to get the most out of them is not now, it's when we have giant armies going into Dis from all sides. Committing them to heavy fighting from very beginning would waste them, in my opinion.
From past experience with battle turns, I don't count on having that fine a control over things. I expect this turn will go all the way to the point of giant armies starting to breach the walls.

It seems highly unlikely we're going to sally out to meet them in the field given we gain +275 from the Dis defenses (that represents a 6.72x multiplier on effectiveness). So the first combat our troops see will be when the deamons are assaulting the Dis walls. That's already where you want the super elites to be used.

Since we're not going to meet them in the open field I don't see why there would be an additional vote between now and them assaulting the walls.

To summarize, the only difference between Plans B and D at the moment is the prioritizing of Nulls, Knights, and Astartes. B has them at default (4 for all of them), while D lowers them to 3, 3, and 2 respectively. I really disagree with the Astartes being 2, but if someone wants other stuff changed, I'm open to suggestions.
They're the only super elite that we can replace in time for the next war, so they're the ones we can most afford to lose. We need the super elites to have an early presence so that our chaff stays intact so that the enemy numbers don't just drown us.

Cry of the Raptor
Cry of the Raptor

Gerokar Var, veteran of the ongoing Tyranic War found himself once more thrust into the fires of conflict. The sky turned ever brighter shades of gold as he and his brother Thunder Warriors girded themselves again for war. Armor was donned, weapons were checked and Var himself readied the power banner he was entrusted to carry before the order to deploy was given.

————

The ride was tumultuous, their vessel was nearly destroyed by the flocks of blasphemous Angyls. Still by the grace of the Emperor Var and his brothers made it to their field of strife. The ramp was barely lowered as he and his squad immediately sped for the nearest group of Angyls assailing a large group of PDF.

They did not make contact with the Angyls, they did not crash into their ranks. They Thundered in as they had been made to do. They had been made to ravage the horrors of Terra standing in the way of Unity. Now Millenia later they once more set to annhilate the abominations standing in the way of humanity's destiny. The Lesser Angyls fell by the score mere moments into the combat. Var's Hammer rose and fell many a time in the blink of an eye. His geneforged strength providing the power needed to shatter any Angyl who dared stand before him. One Angyl who managed to slip past the reach of his hammer did not last much longer than his cursed kin. Reversing his grip on the banner Var impaled the offending Angyl, the Raptor Imperialis tasted the essence of that which stood between Humanity and Destiny. Mere minutes later the combat had ended, between the physical prowess of Varys well as his brothers and the PDF's firepower the flock of Angyls had been sent howling back to their infernal realm.

Once the appreciative soldiers had regrouped Var and his brothers made for the next available drop ship. Towards the next flock that threatened Unity. For this was the conflict, the conflict that would prove the superiority of the Raptor over the Aquila.

Oh, damm. Can you confirm? So I can change it immediately.
Raise the Raptor High

Before the Aquila, There was the Raptor. Before the Crusade, Unification. Humanity could use some unity. - Planetary Governor Frederick Rotbart
In the aftermath of the birth of the abomination, countless symbols were corrupted into uselessness. The Imperial Aquila, turned into a source of corruption. The sigil of the inquisition, spreading the chaos it fought ruthlessly against for so long. The flag of the Adeptus Ministorum, the sign of Tjapa, rather than the emperor. The sisters of battle, once so pure, fell one by one to their own holy iconography. Even as the death of the Emperor shattered the political unity of Mankind, so did the birth of the Abomination shatter mankind's symbolic ties to each other. One by one the Human remnants cast off the signs of the Imperium, for to hold on to the banners of that time was to court damnation. They back onto less regional symbols. The standard of a particular noble house, or the banner of a Space Marine Chapter. For however much they wished it, there was no major imperial symbol left uncorrupted, no rallying banner that remained. Or, at least, almost none.

One day in the Imperial Trust a tech adapt of Muspelheim was reviewing early historical records dating back to the great crusade, when he came across as banner that he had never seen before. Curious, he spent the next month inputting obscure data sequences and sifting through the immense historical databases, chasing his lead. What he found astonished him. The Raptor Imperialis, the banner that the Emperor himself fought under during the Unification Wars. Yet after Unity it fell out of favor, replaced by the Palitine Aquila that would go on to become the symbol of the Imperium, and later the Abomination. He reported his findings, and after extensive testing, Inquisitorial interrogation and confirmation by Saint Lin the Raptor Imperialis was judged true and pure.

Adoption was rapid, spreading from unit to unit, and world to world with incredible speed. By the time that the Trust High Council considered its official status its use had already begun to spread to worlds in The Dragon's Nest. They ultimately decided to demure adopting it as a realm wide standard at the moment, agreeing with Dragon's Nest that the Raptor Imperialis, the Lighting Standard, would be raised in the council chamber the first time upon the moment of unity.

Yet it has spread even beyond the Trust and the Nest, as with every human world saved from the remorseless advance of the Tyranid threat, another world raises the banner of the Emperor, the banner of unity...

@Durin This has been bouncing around the back of my brain for a while.
Here sorry I missed it.

In regards to your use of the gravatic array if tranth uses it there will be major collateral damage among your forces as well as the deamons

@Durin He can't just use it on the areas between our cities and the polar incursion? As I understand it daemons continue to flood in the whole duration of the incursion so targeting those areas could reduce their rate of reinforcements to the attacks on our cities without threatening our forces.

You can try but it is not exactly bout for that sort of precision. It was built for naval combat where ten thousand kilomters is point blank range

I get the feeling that will just result in irate penguines if we target the polls.

Ok nixing the Array.

@Durin What about orbital bombardment? Would that be accurate enough to not cause too much collateral damage?

  • [X] Plan Incursion B
-[X] Dis- The capital of Avernus is a massive hive with a billions strong militia and the most powerful defences on Avernus, and has your Ultra-Secure Vault buried under it as a final fallback.
-[X] Evacuate your trainee psykers to orbit - Make psyker cities less valuable targets and less vulnerable, lose decent number of trainee psykers and cargo wings in transit.
-[X] Redeploy your forces in Tarascon - Increase the number of available forces significantly, lose some forces and cargo wings in trasit.
-[X] Have Ridcully divine the plans of the attackers- All you know of the assault is that its primary goal is to kill Saint Lin, finding out how they plan to do this could be useful.
-[X] Lin and Rotbart will make motivational and preparatory speeches to the populace before the Incursion hits.
-[X] Tamia & Other Telepaths will warn all Avernite peoples they can reach of the incoming Incursion, and also ask the Ancient One to come to Dis - The Exalted is targeting Saint Lin in this incursion.
-[X] Order our orbital fleet to assist the Island turtles in bombarding targets of interest, as well as bombarding our targets.
-[X] Do not shoot the World Serpent.
-[X] Archmagos Biologis Maximal (5)- The senior-most member of the Adeptus Mechanicus on planet, a mighty warrior and a valuable researcher.- Grandmaster Combatant.
-[X] Primaris Ophelia Jameson (3)- Ophelia Jameson, while good in combat, does not specialize in that field. She should be kept out of the worst of the fighting.
-[X] Knights (3)- While few in number your Knights are some of the few forces that can match greater deamons in city-fighting conditions- 10 Maniples of Knights, additional 40 Maniples if you pull forces from Tarascon
-[X] Dis (6)- Dis is your capital, the centre of most of your departments and the home of almost a third of the people who call Avernus home, also your most heavily fortified location by a wide margin-
-[X] Cassarondo (5)- Cassarondo is your northernmost hive and likely the site of the largest attack, if it holds it should greatly reduce the size of the more southerly attack, but the forces required to make it hold will need to come from somewhere
-[X] Write-In: Southern Cities and Hives (2) - Pull forces from the southern cities and hives to reinforce the northern hives.
-[X] Write-In: Spend a major favor for Aeldari assistance but use a minor favour instead if it won't impact the forces they have available.

-[X] WITH: Spend a favor (major if necessary, minor if Durin allows it) for Aeldari assistance.
[X] Saint Lin (6)- The Last Saint, one of the most important people in the Imperial Trust but one that has less than a century left to live and one of the greatest possible foes for daemons.

Best bet with the Gravitic array in my mind would be to use it if at all some point later in the siege to disrupt reinforcements from the poles. That way we could target it well north of our area (to reduce collateral damage/friendly fire) and gain a tactical advantage by temporarily cutting off reinforcements when their main force is in range of us.

Of course, I'd want to verify that we weren't blasting territory belonging to one of the Peoples. Would be a pretty shit thing to do even by accident, and so far friendly contact with the existing groups has paid massive dividends.

Penguins we want to make a trade deal with. When we expand North we are going to have to make those hives the most heavily fortified and defended ones on the planet. Maybe even one level higher than our current average. They will be the new Frontline of any future incursions.

And we have to spare a GD with a DD on it to check for future incursions first (that works by Durin preemptively rolling the corruption levels several turns ahead).

This is a really good point. If we aren't expanding north soon we should see about upgrading cassarondo to the next level of defenses so it can better break up these attacks.

That's a massive forest region, by the way. Any ideas on its schtick (something it has that can differentiate itself from Lindon)?

Something to add to the plan
[] Try and get incontact with the appearing Guardians for coordination purposes.

Durin confirmed in the discord that we have ideas on how to do so thanks to our interactions with Vlad, HWWO and the Sphinxs and coordinating with the Guardians is likely going to be crucial in the coming engagements.
