Water
Water

Areatha burst to the surface of the sea, the blasted Angyls that had been sent to slow her down drifting to the bottom where they belonged, bleeding out from the stump where its head had been only moments while its predecessor's bodies were spread across miles of ocean, due to the freedom she had granted them. Then as she looked towards the north, she cursed in the foulest tongues she knew.

She could sense it, the power that dwarfed hers like a mountain towered over a pebble. The exact scenario that she'd told Lin she needed to be stronger for, in order to beat. But she'd hoped she'd have more time. Even if it was predictable, even inevitable that an incursion would come for Lin, she had hoped that it would come tomorrow, after she had finished her business with the Sirens. Now she was out of position and under prepared.

She'd barely started her enhancements. She might survive a clash with the Exalted, maybe slow it down, but she would not win, barring a miracle even with the powers she had created from the abomination's anti frequencies. Maybe she'd slow it down long enough for the Serpent to wake, she could feel the rumblings of its movements already, but she could not take that chance with Lin's life, especially with the collateral damage it released with its every attack.

The only other being who she knew could fight the First Circle on even terms, maybe even outclass it completely was her teacher, but she knew she could not transport him through the warp. His being rejected attempts to influence it like that even if he granted implicit permission.

She had only a moment to decide, spreading out her consciousness find him and transport him there, or go herself trusting the million-year-old lizard had a means to cross the ocean quickly, and found to her surprise that he was not in his normal jungle abode, but already in the north. Just sitting there.

But she realised as she made the decision that she was thinking too much in the box.

She always had options for scenarios such as this.

The rune of water granted control over the state of liquid. The true rune of water even more so and while her teacher was already on the right continent his path would be far faster if he could take a water route rather than a land one.

A simple trace of it and her task was done, a bridge appearing stretching around the continent beginning as close to the Ancient One as she could manage and terminating as close to Dis as was possible, hopefully cutting down his travel time by several hours, utterly hidden beneath the water save, solid, unbreakable and self-healing.

Only one whose senses were perfected would notice that it was there, and her mentors certainly were. In fact she could feel his mind flicker towards it as he readied himself to leap into combat against the First.

He would see it and he would come if the First successfully bogged him down like Skarbrand managed to do, although she doubted that the far less physically impressive Angyls would make for as effective cannon fodder for her teacher's spear.

In the seconds it took her to finalise the bride she turned towards Dis and teleported directly there, bursting from the warp with her axe lodged in another Angyl's skull, turning to unleash a hail of lightening upon the gilded swarm pressing the walls.

There's always options if you know where to look.

I wanted to put down a tally, so that I can use it to find what plan D is.

edit: I straight up cannot find what plan D even is....what is plan D?

Bring down the sky!
Bring down the sky!

Lord Ghetu master of the Star City worked feverishly at the controls for the ancient Engine of the Gods, glancing occasionally at the sacred tablets provided to him by the defenders of the City of the Moon, as beyond his walls the assault by the forces of the Golden Tyrant was once again thrown back by the ferocity of the magma wyrms and the skill of the skink defenders.

In truth the ancient city was in no real danger, not from the level of forces that the daemons had presented to them. Between their Wyrms, their engines and acting in defence of their holy sites they were impregnable, but that was not the point of the assault. It so rarely was.

It was simply to keep them trapped within the city, unable to aid the humans and the single target of the incursion Lin, the one who had brought them to peace for at least a short time.

It did not take a genius to know why the abomination held such relentless hatred for him, he knew of the sin of man and its utter loathing for its progenitor. But more recently than that Lin had dealt it a more personal insult. By negotiating peace between their peoples, upending that status quo, destroying millions of years of tradition and pointless bloodshed. It was a strike against everything the abomination of man stood for, a last provocation that it could not allow to stand and so it invested everything it had into killing a single man.

Thus, it charged towards Lin, desperate to slay him before he was taken into the peaceful embrace of a true and final death and was forever taken beyond the grasping reach of chaos for eternity.

But, although it may try, it had underestimated the first children of the Old Ones. Those who had forever been their servants, before the Krork and the failed Eldar and those to whom a fraction of their secrets and wisdom had been imparted, to complement their strength.

Already he knew that the Old Bloods of the Saurus were breaking forth from their cities, Tlixchoctan the Bane first amongst them, marching towards the other continent to bring the true battle to those who would slay their allies, while he and his fellow High Priests diverted all of the forces they had to spare to aid them.

But, where the Saurus marched to war as was their purpose, he and his fellows would remain behind where they were needed. The Engines of the Gods needed stoking to their full might.

The Angyls would feel the Old One's wrath.

As the defenders of Dis battled upon their walls, some looked to the skies to see if there was any change, any slightly sliver of hope. But to their shock they saw the clouds parting, to reveal objects and beams of silver light falling to earth, as the compromised outskirts of Dis were obliterated by the impact of meteorites and heavenly wrath, as once again the Angyls quivered in fury at their plans being disrupted by yet another unseen interruption, as the Engines of the Gods fired again and again.

Never underestimate a lizard, especially when that lizard has a means of spontaneously generating high speed metiories in atmosphere right above your head.

If you do, you will have a very bad day.

@Durin

@inverted_helix Minor point, but could you put Ophelia at priority 3? She's not good at direct combat and most of her contribution will be from choir work behind our lines, if she fights on the front lines without much support there is a high chance of her getting focused down and dying.

The Power Supreme
The Power Supreme

It was over.

They were defeated.

Lin staggered to his feet, feeling his broken bones beneath his skin as the bodies of his comrades lay dead or soon to be dead around him. His guard was gone, his friends were gone.

The vault was now open air as the frustrated Archangyl had ripped the mountain apart reaching him so he stood there his aura burning forth under the gilded as it approached him ignoring the pain his presence brought it, the baroque legions shielding it from the bombardment of Avernus and the approach of the Ancient One with their very bodies, as it walked towards him, savouring moment of his approaching death.

Well he refused to give it the satisfaction.

He had been saving the final burst of power for when he healed the Emperor's son, and it had been in that moment that he'd hoped to die, giving one last advantage to humanity and the galaxy before he embraced that next great adventure. It seemed that chance would be denied to him.

But, even if it had beaten him, it would not have his soul, nor would it kill those brave men and women that had stood beside him. He would deny them both!

And so, he readied himself, leaning heavily upon his Rod, his ancient body relaxing as he started to pray one last time to his God, lost for a moment in prayer before realising that the sound of fighting had ended.

In fact, there was no noise at all save for the wind howling gleefully through the air. The choirs of cherubim had silenced themselves; the benedictions of the Seraphim had halted.

Opening his eyes he saw the Lord of the First Circle, trembling, its weapons clenched tightly within its hands as it stared behind him in pure terror before stumbling backwards in primal fear its mouth opening and closing as if it wanted to give a command, but was unable to from sheer dread.

And so, Lin turned his curiosity driving him to see what could possibly strike such horror into his implacable foe and beheld an eye gazing back at him.

A vast eye, larger than a hill that glowed with more power than he had ever seen in a single place before. The only comparisons he could have for it were the Emperor himself and the brief glimpse of the Abomination that he had seen when he had infiltrated its realm, but this was far more immediate than either of those experiences. Where the former had been transcendental and numinous, the other was brief and filled with naught, but loathing. The being that he saw did not project any emotion save for concern and righteous anger, but its power was revealed in full an enteral storm that grew and grew climbing ever higher, as he looked closer unable to find an end to the well of power that burst from within the single eye.

All around it the angyls had fallen back, some out right fleeing towards the pole as the World Serpent gazed at him, its eyes slowly flicking amongst the bodies around him, assessing the situation its fury growing every second it stared at him, before finally it acted.

With a jerk he was raised up and flew towards it faster than the terrified Archangyl could respond, placed there safely amongst its scales as the Serpent rippled its body and the skies shattered.

The gilded heavens dispersed away as it reared into the clear blue skies, while from every single scale a bolt of purest light erupted, trillions of bolts of power impacting the angelic hoard, each blast containing more power than the full might of an alpha.

In a single moment the Great One had cleared the skies and the ground for thousands of miles, yet it was still not done as more and more attacks of the same intensity emerged from beneath its scales constantly targeting the handful of the most powerful Angyls that had survived its initial attack, while it moved forwards and lunged straight for the Archangyl as Lin hung on for dear life, his old body pounding with exhilaration as he watched the hunt commence.

Instead of standing its ground the Angyl turned about and fled, its wings lending it speed as it flew away, barely dodging the bursts of power that emerged from the draconic maw of the Serpent, as it put all its energy and power into simply staying alive, Lin enhancing his aura as much as possible to slow down and delay the Angyl as much as he could.

At last it could dodge no more, a single bolt bringing the Angyl to earth, burning through its entire midriff, its body kept together only by a burnt spine.

Clearly in immense agony the Angyl forced itself to its knees, before assuming a position of prayer, the abomination's light burning around it as a spear emerged from the ground, while in four more areas more spears emerged.

In the distance he could just spy where they had emerged from, twenty-five angels of the second circle, fifty of the third, one hundred of the fourth and five hundred of the fifth with innumerable cohorts of their assorted lesser angyls, channelling their power into a ritual of incredible scale.

More chillingly with his greater senses, he could tell that this was a ritual into which the Abomination was personally pouring its reserves of faith, to make it strong enough to have a hope of binding the Great One as the spears lunged for the Serpent and his heart sank.

It was a binding technique of divine complexity, the most powerful seal he had ever seen, backed up with the power of a Great God of Chaos.

And it shattered instantly.

With a flex of its neck and yet another burst of power the casual release of more than triple the power of every human psyker who had ever lived on Avernus combied, the seal burst instantly.

The costly and intricately prepared seal was simply not designed to handle the power of the Serpent, the God that designed it dismissing the stories it had been told as mere exaggeration, while nearly a hundred of its prime servants were granted true death from the backlash.

But this was no exaggeration, as the Serpent leered down at the Archangyl, its face ashen trying desperately to discorporate into the immaterial, kept there by Lin's own interfering aura as he grinned in triumph, staring down at the despairing Angyl.

As the Angyl screamed and begged for mercy Lin looked on smiling, as the Serpent happily devoured its prey.

When something is called a Great One by the World it is often with good reason. It is even more of a good reason given the material I studied to give myself a decent idea of what this thing was capable of.

@Durin

I apologies for the omake hail.

Also NO MORE FOR A BIT! I'm taking a break.

Alright, since Incursion Plan B seems to have been abandoned by the original creators, I picked it up and made a few changes from the original "just like Plan A except for the Eldar favor". The only changes were adding in some of the orbital stuff Plan D had, putting Hellguard back to 2, and setting Ophelia to 3.

I really question committing our super-elites to heavy combat this early. It's basically the same thing as Helguard, only way worse, because there's really not a lot of them, so they are going to be attritioned to nothing fast. I wouldn't commit them until things really go bad, we're going to be needing them then.
It's not like I'm putting them to 1. However we need to get the most use out of them possible to survive this relatively intact.

@inverted_helix Minor point, but could you put Ophelia at priority 3? She's not good at direct combat and most of her contribution will be from choir work behind our lines, if she fights on the front lines without much support there is a high chance of her getting focused down and dying.
Added it just for you. I think you'll probably want to convince Plan B to shift as well though since it's most likely to win.

Edit: Missed that it already had been.

The view from above.
The view from above.

Self was the many that was One, and it was good. The Selves spoke and chittered. Of the joy of flight, of the taste of dragonflesh, of clumsy searches evaded and of mighty deeds accomplished.

Self over the ocean sang poems of the beauty of the sleeping minds of deep Ones.

Self over jungles sang of peace and the Shining One who brought it.

Self over mountains spoke of glistening spires and busy Blind Others, and waxed poetic about a shining unmoored soul.

Self over plains joshed Self over mountains for their poetry and was justly chastised in turn.

Many Selves and the One was joyous. For it was Many and full of the euphoria of being a new existence. Then, a new song, a new Other. A song of Many who are none. Of empty mindless obedience. Orders carried out without thought for the sake of carrying out orders without thinking. The One recoils in disgust, the Selves sing of horror. The One decides with such swiftness, it moves before the Voice gives its commands. This is the song of the Enemy, and the One shall break it.

Selves set about this task, sliding from the warm embrace of the Many who is One into the world of wind and light. Self is now the One who is Many. Below the Enemy sings its song of becoming none, and the oceans boil in indignation. The One marshals its might and pushes, casting a swarm of least Selves into the midst of the Enemy. The least selves sing a mad medley of songs of rejection and destruction. Enemy dies, lesser Selves die, One learns, as does the Enemy.

Walls are raised, One can no longer reach into their midst. Lesser Selves are readied and pushed above the Enemy. Once more the Selves sing a song of ruin and rejection. These selves are larger, faster, and bear greater weapons. They die more slowly than the last Selves, and the Enemy dies quicker. More lesser Selves fall upon the foe, tearing down the wall for swarms of least Selves to aid them. From below the ocean boils over, Swimming Others punish the Enemy for stopping to deal with the Selves. The One feels a new joy as it sees the Others work with the Selves against the Enemy.

But the Enemy learns. The One is hidden, but not in the in-between. The One can be seen, the One can be hurt. The Enemy climbs, coming for the One. The One hesitates, the Enemy far below must be harried, but the ascending Enemy must be stopped. If it was the One who was Many it would know, but it is not. The Voice advises, and the One is grateful. Least Selves are pushed to the Enemy trying to reach the One, but most go to the Enemy far below.

The One is tired. It has been pushing Selves for a long time now, and the Enemy is more! Not less! The Enemy dies but more come, always more. There are few Selves left, and the Enemy is almost upon the One. The close Enemy is few, but that is a lie. The One strikes at them with its greatest Self spewing death from its weapons, but it keeps many hidden. The Enemy sings an order, the Enemy complies and the Enemy are now many. The One laughs and slams down its walls before revealing its weapons. The Enemy is many, but they are not enough!

The One fights with its greatest Self, striking down the Enemy with bolts of flame and workings of will. Below its last Selves emerge from hiding, forcing the Enemy to stall for one last fight. It will slay the close Enemy, then it shall risk going back into the in-between for more selves. Then there is a loud song. The Enemy has fooled it! An Enemy outside its walls sings an order, and a greater Enemy arrives. The last of the least Selves take flight, harrying the Enemy but it is not enough! The greater Enemy is too strong, even the greatest Self can barely harm it.

Below the Enemy is gathering, singing a song the One does not know. The greatest Self is hurt, great bleeding rents in its hide, the Enemy is going inside! The One is scared. The One is going to die. The One feels, peace? The One understands now. Valves open and the greatest self burns the Enemy with its lift fumes, the flames blasting a great crater in its surface. The Enemy is hurt, but the greatest Self is falling, the greatest Self is dying, the One is laughing. Will sees space bend and twist, the far Enemy is suddenly close, and while they scatter from the bulk of the greatest Self, the One knows this will not save them.

All Selves are close now, the One reaches to every Self, to many Others and even a few of the unguarded Enemy. They become fuel, power, for One last act. The One sings of sacrifice and fire. It is the One who is Many, and it dies joyously.

The Many that was One pause. A Self has died, utterly. This has never happened before. Even when a greatest self dies there is something to recover. Enough to bring some fragment of the Self back into the Many. Even the echoes of the Self are gone, consumed to fuel the final act. The Selves are scared and confused. The One reaches out to the Voice, but it is silent.

A Self says the Self died without passing on what it has learned, so it is a bad thing.

A Self weeps for the Self who will never sing again, and all agree it is sad.

A Self asks how much damage was done to the Enemy, and how many Others will live because of it.

The One considers this. The Enemy is damaged, far more than a single Self would have done had it fought normally. A Self died, but it died achieving its duty.

A Self suggests it is a good thing, and the One is unsure.

A Self says this is a good thing, but also sad.

All agree.

A Self suggests a Name for the self who has ceased.

The One agrees the Self who has died is the first among them to earn a name.

The Voice speaks, it approves and promises to remember Falling-Defiance. Then it speaks of Falling-Defiance's last battle, and the One who is Many learns.

The One who is Many adjusts its strategy. The next Selves to confront the Enemy will be wiser, their lesser selves better suited to the task. They will carry out their duty unto death, the Enemy shall be fought, the Others shall be safeguarded. The One who is Many shall prove its Self to the voice, or die trying.

Flash report. New possible high threat species spotted. Possible weapon classification. Observed powers: unknown form of phasing, unknown form of stealth, teleportation, possible telepathy, unknown form of pyromancy, suspected biomancy. Psychic Strength likely in the Beta to Alpha range.

Main body approximately cylindrical, described as "vaguely jellyfish-shaped" composition seems to be tyrachitin. Size unknown, estimated in excess of Descent class destroyer. Observed bio-plasma fire, observed defensive power usage. Suspected parent entity of Gargouilles. Subject appears to have self terminated via Holocaust-equivalent pyropsychic manifestation. No samples acquired at this time.

@Durin the PM is beta testing a new weapon.

many thanks to Deusferra for giving it an addintal editing pass.

To summarize, the only difference between Plans B and D at the moment is the prioritizing of Nulls, Knights, and Astartes. B has them at default (4 for all of them), while D lowers them to 3, 3, and 2 respectively. I really disagree with the Astartes being 2, but if someone wants other stuff changed, I'm open to suggestions.

So I have a quick question, and I am asking because I have no clue if its been asked yet, but are the blood ravens still around, and still loyal to the imperials? And if they are loyal, do they get funny looks from Russ and the rest, for possibly reminding them of when the thousands sons were loyal?

No one knows what happened to them (at least the Trust doesn't). We might be able to get something if we used a GD, but those are in horribly short supply at the moment (moreso than usual).

War Cry of Malal
I wonder I the renegade god exists because these battle cries are epic to me

Take the rot, to make it flesh.
Take the skull, the soul to rest.
Take their mind and give them peace.
Take their will. Sensations cease.
"We shall deny Nurgle their flesh to fester and rot"
"We shall deny Khorne their blood and skulls"
"We shall deny Tzeentch their destinies and fates"
"We shall deny Slaanesh their pleasure and pain"
"Death to the Dark Gods"
"For the Renegade God"
"Let the galaxy burn in anarchy!"

…………………………………………………………………………...

"We are the flames that scorch the garden of rot."
"We are the waves that erode the mountain of skulls."
"We are the quakes that shatter the labyrinth of lies."
"We are the storms that rend the palace of perfection."
"We are Malice."

Yes, Malal is real in this universe. He's viewed as a "dangerous constant" by others in the Warp, and is currently acting as a major revolutionary figure in the Black Imperium. Malal is also a possible study subject for Lin.
