I know I will be hijaking the next voting phase with a plan containing a few discussions with Thrant about possible developments. ;)
 
How would the cost of equipping Helltroopers with both Pulse and Volkite weaponry compare to equipping them fully with Neutron weapons?
Durin haven't updated the weapons sheet with volkites but at least when compared to neutron rifles pulse ones are 2 times cheaper Thrones-wise, cost same amount of Material, but are more than 8 times cheaper when it comes to AM. Assuming volkites are closer to pulse weapons than neutron ones would mean volkite+pulse combo would cost slightly more Thrones, more than twice as much Material but few times less AM.

Personally, I favor a mixed approach. we usually know what we're fighting, so knowing what kind of regiments to take would be easy. same with matching them against their preferred target.
 
We should field mixed weapons to keep the enemy from exploiting our mono-focus. Tyranids are a prime example of an enemy that'll adapt well to a single weapon type.

Speaking of neutron rifles, did that spy manage to send the schematics out of our forge-hives or did we catch him in time?

What I find disturbing is how did the agent committe suicide while in holding. As someone who has had to put suicidal patients on suicide watch it's hard. So unless the agent had a untraceable way to kill themselves implanted in thier body you really can not kill yourself.

It says he committed suicide before he could be questioned, that might mean they shot themselves before they could be captured. But this is warhammer, its entry possible he just traced a symbol his blood and a demon killed him. depending on how detectable minor pacts are, something like "kill me if I ask" might be a pretty solid way for a chaos infiltrator to avoid being taken alive.

It looks to me like giving them both would come at the expense of skill. Far better to go with the second option and give some regiments one and others the other. N Steps ahead mean that the right regiments would be facing the right foes.
Again, I believe it to be worth it. The general reduction in skill would be less than the bonuses the two weapon types give against their favoured enemies.

N Steps Ahead does make the second ohption more attractive, but it's hardly equivalent to giving everyone both.
The only time it would be better is when we're fighting two unit types of equivalent strength. Then, option two would be the most efficient way to win.
If, however, we're fighting two unit types where one has greater overall strength than the other, such as an army with a disproportionate number of power armoured troops, then it's worse, as the more fortunate of the two armies will be of less worth as reinforcements when they join the other.
If we're fighting an enemy like the orks on Mar Sara, where an enemy is so dangerous we have to commit even unspecialised troops to take them down, then it's also worse. Given the casualties we took in the last two Waaaghs precisely because of the orks' usage of this, arming our troops to defeat this is the best thing to do.

With a bit of favor from their gods, I bet they'll be capable of snapping their own necks.
 
Honestly, this may shape our military going forward. Looking at our typical enemies, we have mainly Orks and Chaos. Despite the Green Awakening, I doubt that the proportion of Oddboyz has changed much, so we're still mostly facing hordes of lightly-armored chaff that would be more vulnerable to Volkites rather than armies of Nobz like Da Crumpas. Against Chaos, we still have the fact that most of their forces are going to be cultist or traitor Guard chaff, and any Traitor Astartes can likely be dealt with by more specialized weapons we still have sprinkled throughout our regiments. But this is if we're looking at ourselves in isolation.

We are part of the Imperial Trust. Our big contribution is super-elite troops in frankly absurd amounts, which makes us a very good counter to enemy elites. If we are expecting other Trust forces to handle the chaff while we deal with Da Crumpas-like formations, pulse weapons may be a better focus.

That's unfortunate. I suppose at the very least, though, Biomancy (with Isha's Blessing) and Daemonology (Due to rampant warp experience) are viable branches for Rids. But then, this is surely just Ridcully limiting himself.. influenced by the Archetype of the Blind Seer.

true, but at the same time, being able to tear through enemy chaffe at insane rates is in and of itself very valuable. I'm leaning twords primarily pulse weapons, but maybe a 5th to a 3rd with Volkites. Having large formations of elites troops who can mow down the ablative meat super fast is useful against ablative meat heavy armies.

We should try to turn the Impalers into anti-armour, anti-material specialized weapons and adapt our squads with that in mind.

Ok, so first up, we create a computer program for Djinn-Skein Gladiatoria. This program is almost the same as any other program, where it has control of a bunch of troops and directs them against human players in an attempt to win. The difference between this special program and normal programs is that the special program essentially has N Steps Ahead. Since this is a virtual environment, it's an easy ability to give to this program.

Now here's the kicker. Every year, Rotbart does an action where he goes into Djinn-Skein Gladiatoria and competes against this program, pitting his true N Steps Ahead against its virtual N Steps Ahead. A 1d100 is rolled every year, same as the Spend Time With actions or whatever. On a roll of nat 100 (which would happen on average once every 100 years if done every year), the program beats Rotbart, because a nat 100 is always a victory. Further, achieving the impossible victory causes it to develop consciousness, so now we have an AI with true Paragon Martial.

Rotbart beat Jane in a duel, doesn't have Paragon Combat.

I bet the issue is that there aren't enough stakes riding on the program winning.

1 how many lightyears can we travel a day now if we upgrade with the navigator eye?
2 does Vlad know any weapon to fight Necrons?
3 would it be better to ask Vlad or Areatha about fighting Necrons?
4 if we do a sound out and every one agrees can we assassinate Demagogue without having to wait for a high council meeting?
 
I'd like to avoid assassinating Chaos leaders near us too much when they don't represent an immediate threat. Yes, it reduces the threat level of the polities in the near term substantially, but it creates opportunities for other hostile groups to expand into the region cheaply, or for current hostile groups to expand into the region previously held by them.

Right now we're reasonably safe from Team Evil located in our neighborhood—none of them are individually large/powerful enough to deal with us, and they can't cooperate for shit because it would require several of them working together to be effective and everyone else would happily take the chance to stab them in the back. Killing leaders while leaving population/industry relatively intact opens the realm up to conquest by any opportunists, and as a result should trend towards larger and larger realms being formed—realms that could pose a far more significant direct threat than their predecessors even could working together.

More, assassinating local leaders turns us into an immediate personal threat to the relevant decision makers rather than a long-term strategic threat. They will have far more incentive to find ways to move against us, even at the cost of hurting their longer term position.

there are currently 4 existential threats to the Imperial Trust in the short term
1. One of the hostile major players taking enough notice of you to crush you, the only way to avoid this is the Eldar and avoiding to much notice
2. several of the local major powers deciding to work together to kill you, if you bring Dragon's Nest to your level this might not be enough
3. Urkozz Bloodbusta uniting his domain and launching a big enough waaagh at you
4. any form of civil war (Mechanicus)
