The squats might be able to help, since they probably have fairly good industrial technology and a fairly divergent human tech base. They and the assassins are probably our last sources of easy human tech anyway.

How do we get the Squats to attend the next tech-trade? Spend a few years of Ridcully's valuable time looking for human polities with good tech?
Damn, everything looks like a Divination-shaped nail. What are we ever going to do when this guy inevitably croaks?

Luckily Ridcully has a massive lifespan even without any special life-extension things, and is very good at not dying between Divination and immunity to poison.

Well Ridicully is essentially immortal if nothing kills him. Well to be more precise he will thousands of years because of his control. So he will not die of old age.

But the problem with the squats is that we do not know how far they are.

No, he certainly won't die of old age. But let's be honest, this thread is going to throw him at the apotheosis wall at every opportunity we get, just to see if he sticks, and he's probably going to break his neck on one of those tries.

  1. Can we ask the other races on avernus about there experience with the other types of demonic incursion so we could prepare and not be caught off guard with their quirks?

2. if Tranth get a tech fundamental all the way to relic could he found an admech sect dedicated to that type of tech (sort of like psyker orders), narrative wise it would be Tranth recording and teaching his knowledge and the admech shifting from cargo cultists who barely understand the tech there handling to an order of scientist and engineers who understand the tech there using and represent humanity reclaiming there pre fall scientific understanding .
Mechanically in the quest the newly founded admech sect would give a bonus to rolls for all action involving there tech specialty , this bonus would increase as the quest goes on from two things the first is institutional knowledge which the sect gains passively as they now have an understanding of their tech they can now figure out what works and what doesn't and advance their understanding through that this has diminishing returns , the second way is experience which they gain from actions as they break new and undiscovered ground this also resets the first one

Maybe Ridicully can literally do things that can change the balance of the galaxy. Biggest example is Throne of decay. The Eldar now have 1 percent population growth, cures for plagues, hope and know the path to rescue Isha when they get the chance. Which to be honest is/worth Ridicully life. Because right now the Eldar have the best chance of bringing order to the galaxy.

The real issue with the Vestri League is that, assuming my back story is more or less held to, the squats gained power when the local forge world went abomination and tried to genocide them after gutting the sector government. Understandably, the engineering guilds weren't exactly eager to help rebuild the shattered loyalist admech and replaced them instead.

If we are loooking for upgrade tech we can trade for I would put forth the fortress of the soulless. Even if they don't we make contact with the assassins guilds and the blanks.

@Durin
1 since Mechanicus civil war is one of the things that could cause a end to the trust will building titans bring down the unrest?
2 if we finish programs will we get a option to reverse engineer the gravity array ship?
3 can we do other things to bring down the unrest with the Admech?

Experimental Harvester variants.
Experimental Harvester variants.

There has been a recent development within the colegia Reconstructa. A tech priest as a masterwork fully explored a peculiar harvester variant. The seedbed pattern was an oddity, it possessed little armor, limited targting cognaitors, a vastly oversized power plant, and no weapons. Initially it was taken to be an incomplete design, but he was able to definitely prove that it was in fact complete. It appears that the seedbed pattern harvester was in fact a dedicated test pattern, the extreme modularity of the harvester apparently justifying the production of a limited number of dedicated testbed models. The discovery of a STC with the intended use of being modified has has some interesting theological implications, but had the immediate impact of meaning it was inarguably acceptable to use the seedbed to experiment with new patterns.

It is worth mentioning that due to its mislabeling as an incomplete design, a large number of magnos had access to it. The sudden confirmation that it was acceptable to use it to create alternative patterns led to an enthusiastic bout of exploration of alternative design philosophies. Eventually the headmaster took steps to redirect this energy to other endeavors. Restricting access to the design to a on request basis, requiring a proposal to be submitted before granting access.

While the vast majority of the designs were created with more enthusiasm than sense, a number of them show promise, either in their current state, or with a few small refinements.

Torrent pattern harvester
Base loadout: 72 lasguns.
Variance- lasguns may be swapped out for any other energy based riffle.

While the base pattern is of dubious use due to the lasguns poor performance, The 12 rifle mounting created to enable it is a well designed bit of technology. While the density of the weapons in the mounting makes it unsuitable for any weapon that requires physical ammunition, it should be capable of mounting any rifle scale energy weapon in our arsenal. While originally created primarily as a design exercise, there may be a use for nearly a platoon and a halves worth of firepower should the variant be fitted with more potent weaponry. Initial simulations show that it may be an effective if short range combatant. If it outperforms less unconventional patterns in real life conditions remains to be seen.

Storm reaper pattern harvester
Base loadout: 52 impalers.
Variance- any number of impalers may be swapped out for any heavy rifle.

The storm reaper incorporates an improved version of the hurricane Bolter. By using more advanced compoints the designer was able to create a modular array. While mixing different weapon types within the same array will require work to fine tune the targeting systems, and reworking of munitions feeders, it is the work of mere weeks. This has created an extremely versatile pattern, able to be equipped to deal with most targets at varying levels of resource investment. Comparing the base Strom reaper to the base harvester reveals it is somewhat cheaper, and outperforms it against lightly armored foes at close and medium ranges. It is suspected that the Storm reaper could make for an exceptionally deadly infantry killer in city fighting, where its somewhat shorter range will rarely come into play.

Cloud reaper pattern harvester
Base loadout: 18 AA missile launches.
Variance 6 of the AA missile launches may be replaced by AA mounted neutron cannons, AA mounted neutron repeaters, or AA mounted autocannons

Notable in that it was one of the few designs created by a magnos with command experience. The Cloud reaper is a dedicated AA pattern, intended to accompany harvester formations to provide integrated AA support. It is a very straightforward solution to concerns that harvester formations may be separated from other units, and be left exposed to air attack. The use of AA missiles is rather than other systems was due to the greater ease of targeting while on the move, as well as the lesser importance of endurance for a unit meant to provide short to mid term air cover rather than attrit enemy air formations. While the initial design calls for blisters of 3 AA missiles, there is an alternative arrangement using blisters of 2 as the weight of 3 launches is uncomfortably close the the tolerances of the mountings and may not function as intended outside of simulations.

Ash sower pattern harvester
Base loadout: 18 Volkite Culverin.
Variance: none

Quite possibly the least ill conceived pattern of the lot, the ash sower incorporates six blisters of three Volkite Culverins as its armament. The result is one of the most potent infantry killers below super heavyweight encountered by the trust. While it suffers compared to the base pattern against heavily armored foes, its ability to vaporize staggering amount of lesser infantry make that an acceptable trade off. A formation made up of Ash sowers would be able to rapidly burn through the hordes of chafe employed by orks and most chaos powers with remarkable speed. While they would require support to protect them against other tanks or powered armor infantry, within their niche they would be supremely effective.

City cutter pattern harvester
Base loadout: 12 Conversion Beamers
Variance: none

An extremely ambitious design. The city cutter seeks to create a potent siege weapon capable of doing immense damage at extreme range. The design incorporates extensive cognator banks to assist with the managing of the conversion beamers, however the bulk and power draw has necessitated some design compromises. To compensate the armor has been slightly thinned, furthermore the vehicle must be stationary to fire, for both power and stability concerns. However the sheer destructive power of this pattern is impressive, if it keeps its foes at range. Should they close however, it would be nearly helpless against even weak foes. There are some concerns of the feasibility of using so many conversion beamers in a real world environment, but so far test rigs have functioned as intended.

Ice reaper pattern harvester
Armament: 4 Thermal Shock Arrays, 2 Gatling impalers.
Variance: up to 2 Thermal Shock Arrays can be replaced with Gatling impalers

An effective, but currently impossible design. The intention for this variant would be to use the Thermal Shock Arrays to breach armor, and the pair of Gatling impalers to finish off the compromised tanks. While this is an effective idea, we presently lack the ability to employ Thermal Shock Array, or any helfrost weapons, in meaningful numbers. It is included primarily because it is unique in being extremely well researched and documented, with the magnos including data from a number of Thermal shock array test firrings. Should the telepathica crack the production of hellfrost weapons this would be an effective use of them.

@Durin a milidly silly thing. many thanks to anders101 for help betaing it.

Is there anything we can do to strengthen our counter-intelligence abilities?
  • More in-system patrols to catch infiltration craft
  • More in depth security checks and screening of incoming ships and passengers
  • Better encryption and information security
  • System-wide data scrambling to prevent unauthorised transmissions
Maybe any of these, or any other suggestions people might have?

@Durin, something that might be relevant to the Rescue Isha mission if you decide that it exists.
Rose of Isha - Warhammer 40k - Lexicanum
Roses of Isha were flowers with pearl stigma said to grow where the Eldar Goddess Isha walked in the mortal realm. None had been seen since the War in Heaven until Yvraine plucked one during her trials in the Black Library. It allowed Yvraine and the Ynnari to pass through the Garden of Nurgle to the Plague Planet.

@Durin

1. Is Slaneesh still an Eldar God on account of having all her Eldar Souls cut out?
2. What stopped the Abomination from gaining a claim on all Human Souls when it was born? Is the Abomination intrinsictly a Human God?
