It depends, when the someone is a deacon prince of tzeench with a talent for making hero's fall by talking to them and many similarities to the diviner, even Ridcully has a single digit percentage chance of falling. Main reason I am speaking up here is that Ridcully would know this and I get the i,pression that people are viewing the action as safe
That is why we ask. Some rewards are worth the risk and others simply not.

@Enjou Ney

Since there's some controversy and new information on this matter, can I get a straw poll of yay or nay on the matter of divining Turoq's True Name?

I say nay mostly because I don't think this will help move down the path to godhood. Doesn't seem big enough we really need to get that paragon piety trait. I say we go for Nurgle and equip all the appropriate black Crystal gear.

I am off work today, going to Costco get a chicken bake, and some other stuff I need. Than going to see a movie this afternoon maybe venom.

Alright, I'll be removing the True Name action. Let me rejigger Ridcully's action slot - I'll post the new version once I have.

EDIT - new slot:

SLOT A - Year 1 (Ridcully)
-Y1: Fanning the Flames
-Y2: Greater Divination (Turoq Anti-Divination Countermeasures)
-- DOUBLE DOWN YEAR 2
-Y3: Research: Power of Belief
-- DOUBLE DOWN YEAR 3

so possibly dumb question, but is there a reason your not building this in Tarascon? did I just miss the construction of the lonely mountain hive?

Rotbart already is building a Tarascon hive at Lonely Mountain. We won't be able to build more cities there until that hive is finished, since it gives us a secure location to build from. (we're only able to build there right now due to the Hold Ground action we did)

@Enjou you sure you want to do a 8 year research option? We do need to do a fanning flame ever turn now or face a Waagh. Also if we figure out his countermeasures we can finally divine his attacks and be there to ambush his forces somewhat.

1. While you've adequately addressed the risk of the action, I don't think you've given a clear idea of what the reward would be. On the one hand you say that a thousand year banishment is within our power, but on the other hand you say taking him out of the fight is something we can't do. Would it merely be a moderate bonus as Aeondrac said or would the benefits be more substantial?
2. Kaldor Draigo knocked Mortarion out of the fight by blasting his mind with his True Name. Given that we have Grey Knights and we can't use True Names to take daemons out of fights with them, can it be assumed that Kaldor Draigo's feat is non-canon in Embers?
3. In one of the Dark Heresy books, there's a type of weapon called the Truename Staff. Created by the Ordo Malleus, Truename Staffs are staffs inscribed with the True Names of 99 daemons. They tear at the essence of daemons, which in the book just means their strikes ignore a daemon's daemonic toughness (but not their regular toughness). Are Truename Staffs a thing in Embers and do they work as in the book?
4. If so, could we inscribe those True Names on ranged weapons and other melee weapons to similar effect?
5. In Dark Heresy, knowing parts of a True Name can give you power and influence over the daemon, if not anywhere near as much as knowing the full True Name. Is the same true in Embers?
6. If so, can Ridcully limit his search to just finding parts of True Name?
7. If he can, how safe corruption-wise would it be?

The reason I'm asking about some of the stuff in the books is because some stuff that's canon in Embers comes from the books. Because of that, my interpretation of Durin's "books aren't canon" statement is "don't assume the stuff in the books are canon".

1. It would be a significant bonus but mostly in making your damage stick. Without the name killing him might banish him for years, with the name for centuries
2. It is canon but the use of true names is not taught to Grey Knights until they hit captain or librarian and have proven to be able o handle it
3. Pretty much
4. No you can't
5. Yes
6. Yes
7. Safer, pretty much in a direct relationship with how much less effectivnit isAnd you are right in don't assume books are canon. There is enoungn contradiction in 40l that if all bookms

1. if Turoq was banished would he be able to manifest on his demon world?
2. would he still be able to send out his spy demons?
3. would he be able to communicate with his followers?

would it be fair to say it would have someone else doing day to day stuff (and using their stats for boni), but Turoq would still be doing the equivalent of picking the actions?
