The main advantage factions besides CHAOS have on the IoM is that they don't have their techs literally religiously opposed to actually understanding the 'hows' and 'whys' of their tech. At some point AM decided to declare the scientific method Political Heriteck. As in your only allowed access to it if you have enough political weight within the local politics of AM. Which is why Avernus is likely doing so well... the high ranking members of AM are more interested in results than in micromanagement by dogma. Remember Avernus is a newly collonized Deathworld and the gravy train of STC and ancient tech is still coming on strong. It'd be a political nightmare to try and stop that train while its still spewing forth glorious things.

If the IoM wasn't going to implode soon, long term I could see Avernus AM actually importing STC fragments just to complete them. Eventually trades are made for STC fragments in exchange for completed ones and occasionally some production. Avernus would end up Atlas' golden cyborg goose. Subcontractor of STCdex that Fortress Deathworld would be. Even better you can banish low level fodder priests to Avernus if they are too inquisitive and everyone will think your punishing them.

I've been watching a lore mine on youtube called 'Vaults of Terra' and one of the things that really helped out the Orks is that they managed travel the warp regularly while it was all screwed up after the Eldar Empire pokevolved into Slanesh. So if the Warp is completely borked post IoM, the Tau and their shallow Warp skimming with help them spread. They only move through the Warp at 20% of IoM speeds. Which would be comically fast if the Warp is only calm enough sporadically to use in the meantime. 20% speed all the time instead of partial speed some of the time.

Also, there is apparently some evidence that the Etherial cast are psykers... which is why the Greater Good thing works. Also, a few thousand years ago an entire cast of Tau were winged fliers... now they aren't but are all the pilots. Basically, I'm now convince that Tau are actually pokemon and once they evolve bigger souls they will gain the ability to pokevolve. They already have types Etheral (psychic), Fire (fighting), etc... I fully expect that the ral reason the Tau keep throwing mooks at the Dark Eldar is the Etherals are actively trying to get Poison and Dark subtypes and the DE are falling for it.

Someone should make that happen.

Didn´t the Tau get eaten by the Tyranids? I thought their sept worlds laid directly in the of one of the latter swarms...

I`m pretty sure that`s false. There is a book called Xenology if I remember correctly. In it the ad mech dissected a lot of various xenos and wrote reports on what they found. One of the dissected Tau was etherial. They have some kind of organ that produces pheromones and is very, very similar to the organ that Q`orl have. The effects are also the same. They even speculated that some third party bioengineered etherial caste to be what they are now for some reason. Probably Eldar.

You are finding printouts not full STCs, there is a 2% chance that there is a full STC on Avernus, if there is you have not yet found it

If he did that, then we wouldn`t have 2% chance of finding an intact STC. It would either be there already, or it wouldn`t. Since we have a chance of finding it, I assume durin is rolling it every time we do an exploration action.

That's not what I'm saying. I think he has already rolled for each ruin and set the loot table for each one. Sometimes he might get an idea for more interesting loot and switch out something less interesting.

My guess is that durin rolls the loot tables for each ruin when we find it. However, we know there are probably more ruins then just the ones we found. Probably durin has a max number of ruins that are possible to find on Avernus. We find another ruin, and then durin then rolls up the loot table. There must be a small chance of a ruin containing a true STC.

Heck, we will soon be getting access to ruins on the Moons of Avernus IV. I wonder what we will find out there.

Is there anything that we can do to protect Avernites from Warp radiation that just drives anyone exposed to it nuts and causes mutations.

:eyebrow: Avernus is Warp Touched. We are constantly exposed to warp, that's why we have so many psykers and so many cultists.

Rough ideas for next turn:

Military (2)

- Some new option
- New Option? Or maybe Deathstrikes/Heavy Armor (Don't think we want to do both)

Administorum (3):

- Something to do with population pressures?
- New option: Mining on the moons of Avernus IV?
- Survey Avernus V?

Diplomacy (2):

- Trade with Asgard? or alternatively Request Aid
- Diplomatic Contact (Nilfheim?)

Arbites (2):

- Police Training: Common Crime, or alternatively Find Them (locate cultists)
- Targeted Cultist Hunt: Yphax?

Mechanicus (2):

- Explore Ruins
- Stealth Plane?

Ministorum (1):

- Signs of the Plague

Personal (3 to 4):

- Personal Attention (probably Administorum)
- Courtly Manners
- Way of the Blade part 3?

For our next turn I definitely want to try and get the Ordos malleus to send aid. Don't know what they will send but the last time they sent aid it granted us a +10% to select research projects that has really helped us out. We are warp touched and a death world X2. Think about that, our psykers are head and shoulders above regular psykers when it comes to fighting, we might be able to become a recruitment world for the Grey Knights. We produce a prodigious amount of psykers and they all get incredible amounts of military training. Our Ministorum preaches constantly against heretics, chaos, and rogue psykers. Our military has major bonuses to fighting against chaos in general and even higher against heretics and psykers of those forces. We are setting our self up as an ideal recruitment world for the Grey Knights. We have a Scholastica Psyckana outpost and they send their most promising to the grey knights. We might manage to get some of their people stationed here.

Potentially also have the adeptas ministorum send aid as well. Decreased cult chance. Need I go on? This alone is worth doing the action while we still have the chance. I for one want to max this sort of thing out as quickly as possible. Having Cadian Level trained forces equipped with our PDF level of equipment is something that rather not have turn heretic on us anywhere on our planet. Making our planet inhospitable to chaos would be great.

Anyways Durin: Our military gets +15 against Chaos and a +5 against heretics and psykers. Since we are training all of our people would that do anything to our cultist hunting chances and our finding psykers rolls? The chaplains would be everywhere and keeping an eye on everyone at that point I think.

Listening to "Welcome to Nightvale" again, and this line seems like it fits Avernus pretty well :p

Episode 10 - Feral Dogs said:
The episode.

"Sheriff's Secret Police confirm that the dog pack has already attacked a group of elementary school children around eight as they were getting on the bus. Injuries were minor, as the children protected themselves ably with their school-issued nerve gas cannisters and automatic pistols."

Current tally. @durin - I don't think there's much chance of changes in the winners at this point, so if you wanted to get the next bit done early you could.

You know, I feel a little bad for the Cadia style training we're going to inflict upon our people. 32 hours of training a week on top of 49 hour work weeks means they're busy for 81 hours a week. Given 8 hours a day for sleep and showers, that would leave them only 31 hours for leisure time a week, and 2-4 of that is probably already taken up by church attendance. I imagine Henry will throw out the policy proposals to have people work longer hours, as working them any harder would break them.

Hopefully the total needed training time tapers off a bit over time. Maybe we can figure our a few ways, like doing some of the training during while children are in Schola so that they get familiar with the program young enough that they don't need to train with it quite so much when they're older. Or maybe we'll find an STC for a safe but cheap drug that lets people sleep less so they can get more free time into their day.

Or, we go full cyberpunk(we're already two steps from being a bastion of the Omnissiah) and mass-produce Sleep Regulators from Shadowrun(wetware implants that stimulate the brain in specific ways, notably by putting some parts in stand-by mode when unused for extended periods of time, reducing the need for sleep to 3 hours per two days). There is a precedent for it - the Astartes got an implant that does that.

We just need to find an STC to make a Catalepsean Node or equivalent suited for humans and we're good to go. Or we could potentially find something to that effect by researching the wildlife.

Yes we shall find a way to have our people sleep less so we can length the work week.

In exchange they can get some more feast festival days.

We don't need to lengthen the work week. We haven't done it since it was offered on Turn 3, and I don't expect we'll ever take it. I'd rather have their morale back up to their 'normal' (aka absurdly high) levels.

Yeah, I was kind of wondering why we never went for that extra 30% productivity, but this does make for a nice Self-Imposed Challenge.

When I want to think about how grimdark the world of Warhammer is, I tend to think it must be something like this Shiki AMV.

(Warning: Major spoilers)

Maybe we'll get an option to reduce their work week instead. With the fewer deaths due to training it might even come out close to break even.

I was okay with not increasing the working week (which is no longer feasible now), but let's not actually reduce our productivity. We have an excess of morale; we don't have an urgent need to generate more, especially using such a costly method. @durin as much as said that the lack of downtime isn't going to cause issues for our civilians.

Posts like this make me wish there was a "smack upside the head" option to tag a post with. We don't need any grimderp in this quest, thank you very much.

Too late, its in 40k some degree of grimderp is to be expected. I just like the 80s aspect of its origins which was a response to all the happy fairy tail ends of fantasy and sci fi of that era. The light work week is obviously only for the fortunates of our population. The rest of our undocumented underclass works backbreaking hours under constant surveillance and is already militarized to the degree of Cadia/catachan.

Besides not like I am being serious.:p

I expect that even after we introduce Impalers to the militia lots of people are going to keep their lasweapons.

They are also now recategorized as spider swatting implements. The average Avernite with their heightened spider-sense will tingle when a spider comes close and quickly Shoot it with lasers.

That's actually not a terrible idea.

Impalers are less likely to do collateral damage when killing a blinkie than a laspistol would. I suspect that most of our civilians have, and have always had, a laspistol and combat weapon close to hand for just that function.

How common are laspistols anyways (both on Avernus and in the wider galaxy)? Is it normal in 40k for most civilians to have a laspistol?

Most people would have access to solid projectile weapons such as stub and auto pistols. Las weapons are generally considered "military" ordnance and thus the Imperium tries to keep out of civilian hands.
