Giappone 'The Gateway to the Blood Dragons'
Omake - Giappone 'The Gateway to the Blood Dragons'

*The Following is an Omnicron Level Update for the eyes of the Planetary Governors only. Security Procedures will be taken to ensure confidentiality. This report is done by the Diplomatic Service with Assistance from Saint Lin of Imperial Truth Church.*

The world of Giappone is a Civilized World/Fortress World whose allegiance is to the Blood Dragons. The world of Giappone was actually the center of it's own Petty Imperium before the Blood Dragons came to the rescue of the Sub-Sector at the behest of then Lord Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu of the Tokugawa Clan. The entire sub-sector had been hit hard by Orks in a WAAAGH that the Sub-Sector survived through sheet brilliance, willpower, and the fact that the Ork Warlord was defeated by Lord Ieyashu himself in singles combat. However Ork Freebootah's were beginning to take asteroids as there own and overran the sub-sectors meager fleet with hit and run tactics that left the the merchant convoys of the sub-sector devastated and Giappone's reputation as fearsome defenders in question.

Swallowing his pride Lord Ieyashu would pledge his whole sub-sector to the Blood Dragons in exchange for the destruction of the Orks which the Blood Dragons did all too happily in order to take such a greater amount of territory. The Sub-Sector would never again pay tribute to Giappone which had helped make it so prosperous but it would fix the damage done and increase the prosperity in the region.

Giappone for it's part began to change slightly as it changed from an economy geared for protecting it's vassal states (The other planets) and forced to become more self-sufficient. It's chief export are metals but it also boasts a notable increase in cultural items and trade goods.

Giapponese are divided into one of five sects. First are the Gangii or those who seek to migrate to Giappone for a new life. Second are the Minkan or Civilians. These are the largest part of Giappone society making up 70% and can be seen working anywhere from a university, a temple, or really anything. Minkan can be soldiers and many do serve in the PDF or Blood Dragons Guard but are still considered civilians because of there birth. Third are the warriors or Senshi who make up around 15 to 20 percent of the population. What makes the Sinkan special is that they are trained from birth to becoming soldiers and are put through extensive amounts of training from the day they are able to which is usually 4. Sinkan serve as Champions, Sergeants, and sometimes even Generals depending on the situation. Fifth there are the nobles or Kizoku's who make up 10 to 15 percent of the population. Kizoku's are similar to Sinkan in that many are trained from birth but depending on the decision of there Clan Head they may become a General or Admiral or a member of the Adminatorium. A select few Kizoku are sent to the Gikai in the Capital city as advisers to the Lord Shogun who will live a life of political intrigue as they battle each other for the power to forge policies for the world. Finally of small note is the underworld of Giappone which seems to also be not legal but tolerated in a way. Apparently the Underworld of Crime in Giappone is run by a planetary wide organization called the Yakutza who themselves will recruit many Minkan and even Gangii in exchange for money. They operate in a much more respectful code that refuses to kill a Minkan unless absolutely needed as well as other rules. Any member breaking these rules will have there thumb chopped off, sodered, and kicked out of the Yakutza. The Yakutza itself is made up of different crime families, associations, and crews which makes the Yakutza more of a loose network that follows the previously mentioned rules rigidly but what the rules are differ from gang to gang.

In meeting the Lord Shogun I walk away with the idea knowing that we have a very aggressive neighbor next to us. Should tensions or a war breakout we can expect a driven fight from the Giapponese and it's leadership. Thankfully Ieashu is also a sensible man and has promised to convert to the Imperial Truth upon meeting with Saint Lin himself in a previous meeting. He has also promised that his people will also 'Bow in the Morning to the True Emperor and his Mandate' as a sign of devotion and allegiance to truth and honesty.

How good is our counter-espionage? I mean, I suspect it has to be acceptable considering how much we search for heretics.

Do the other leaders know about our proto-assassins? I know they gave a lot of technology for it and when viewing all our requests it seems obvious but I don't recall how much secrecy was going on.
As far as I understand the operatives are not very secret.
They are essentially more military snipers, deployed to kill high-power Chaospsykers or enemy heroes who show their head, not infiltrators or any kind of political assassins.

If any governor gets killed by a Super-Exitus or gets killed in his bed after someone managed to sneak by his entire bodyguard people will propably make a short count where all the available Operatives where at the time anyway.

Pretty sure they're suppose to be a secret strike force. Maybe only there training is secret?

@Durin

1. Are Elite Operatives Secret?
2. What kind of names have you seen that you think will be a good name for them?

I'm more down with something like Hersir, Radningar, or Ulfhednar. Nice and simple with the weight of past elites behind it and none of this super long bureaucratic Ministry stuff like we're trying to hide them as line 56 subcommittee of the department of cleaning in the budgets like a CIA black op fund.

Bah, ya'll need to remember the themes we have in general here in the Asgard sub-sector, and the death theme of Avernus itself.

I suggest we call them the Wild Hunt, for they are hunters hailing from the unparalleled world of death that tirelessly seek to find and destroy all the enemies of mankind.

@Durin
1. Now that he's got the MoS stc to compare to can Tranth tell if the Well's data net is one of a MoS?
2. How did the Farseer react to Ridcully?

And yeah wild hunt seems appropriate, if not child friendly :D

I'd like to go old-school and call them the Special Combat Augmented Recon Force, the Organisation they belong to is called SCAR Force and the operatives themselves are known as SCAR Troopers or SCAR Agents.

Fun with acronyms! Let's bring a little bit more alphabet soup into this. Remember that most modern special forces are called after some sort of abbreviation, like the Speznas or GIGN.

@Durin, can you answer some questions?

1) Are requirements to a Princeps of a big Titan much higher than to a Knight pilot?
2) Are any of minor alien civilizations we've found corrupted?
3) Are any of them useful or just interesting?
4) So, how bad would conservatives react if we will use Troll mercenaries? Probably not too bad, even Imperium used xeno mercs sometimes.
5) Maybe some Sirens are willing to offer us mercenary services too?
6) In theory, can cyclonic torpedoes be downscaled to non-exterminatus weapon?
7) How much better Librarians are than normal Neoastropaths?
8) Do we have stasis chambers? What about Blood Dragons?
9) How much are cultists in stasis safer to carry through warp? What about ones in artificial coma, or criosleep?
10) How realistic are the rumors about Lamentors? How's likely that they actually are somewhere relatively close?
11) Do we have any idea if they're actually attract problems or just subconsciously attracted to problems? Or both?
12) Did we tried to bypass Questling Beast stranger effect?
13) What's happening with written depictions and with drawings?
14) Did he described it to strong psykers, to Saint Lin and to blanks?
15) Do we have lists of things that Questling Beast isn't? "It is not a plant, it is not colonel Brindos, it's not pink with violet squares, it doesn't have power to turn stone liquid..."
16) Does Ridcully have any insight if it's the Eldar who awakened Ork gods? Maybe they know that it will happen because it's their work? That passage about old allies...

This is actually an interesting question. Being a knight requires being one of the Questoris familialis as well as acceptance by the knight itself, but Princeps don't follow this rule as far as I know.

In fact I have no idea how they are selected beyond the Requirements being really really high (my guess would be much higher than the Knights, considerably so given that Titans can kill their Princeps or just go on an independent rampage, where as Knights tend to be unable to do that to their users)

2) Are any of minor alien civilizations we've found corrupted?
I hope not, but at least we have Exterminatus to end it quickly then.

4) So, how bad would conservatives react if we will use Troll mercenaries? Probably not too bad, even Imperium used xeno mercs sometimes.
Hopefully even less bad since the trolls have said they'd only do it to **** chaos.

Which everyone can agree is a good thing cause **** chaos.

5) Maybe some Sirens are willing to offer us mercenary services too?
My guess would be only against chaos... because **** chaos same as the Trolls.

Say what you will about avernus, but at least that's one area it has it's priorities straight in.

7) How much better Librarians are than normal Neoastropaths?
If I were to guess significantly.

Take the example of the blood ravens, but even then in Ember it makes sense. Like calls to like and geneseed explicitly changes a persons psycic frequency (certain geneseed lines can make exclusive use of certain psycic abilities like the Blood tree for BA descendent).

Presumably that would make it easier for Librarians to reach their brothers.

My hope is to have several Guard Librarian's stationed on important connections (Midgard to Dannan ect.) to get news and directions out to the trust quickly.

8) Do we have stasis chambers? What about Blood Dragons?
IIRC we do have them they're just not important enough to have a specific mention its not like they're useful in combat or are big enough to be deployed on a large which is what Durin seems to give specific mention too.

9) How much are cultists in stasis safer to carry through warp? What about ones in artificial coma, or criosleep?
Who knows. I believe he said you can't transport people safely in statis, but other wise who knows.

Maybe putting someone in a coma is damaging to the soul (it probably would leave them more open to Daemons at least on Avernus where they can more easily get in) (in fact I think all of these were discussed already back when we first got the option to do this... or at least one of the times it was brought up)

They're also really really really expensive.

Probably a bit too expensive to be useful for what I think your thinking.

And again before you ask in canon there is a case of someone doing something similar to what you're thinking. A navigator trapped in a battle barge in a space hulk, geller field was working on and off so sealed himself in a statis chamber hoping it would keep him safe from the daemons and would freeze his soul until the hulk was spat out in reality. It didn't since the soul isn't technically in the body and he was tortured by Daemons for all eternity (or until a daethwatch squad rolls by).

That reminds me, best ask if we can let our surveyors loose on the space hulks. Probably will be bugger all there, but you never know and its not like they're doing anything other wise.

10) How realistic are the rumors about Lamentors? How's likely that they actually are somewhere relatively close?
11) Do we have any idea if they're actually attract problems or just subconsciously attracted to problems? Or both?
They're the Lamenters, they've got a bunch of incredible stories before the Imperium fell.

Their luck is hard to explain properly (it is luck after all), but worst case scenario their luck is the result of some kind of psycic resonance with their gene seed (like how the Black Rage and Red Thirst sort of are) and now its getting even worse, making everything go wrong, but making it so that they do win/are incredible.

The even worse cases are not good, but blunder into even more assumptions, vagary and theory crafting so I won't bother.

Sorry if this is not what you want (these are mostly my rememberings, guesses and theories not WoG)

So there are some general directions where thought goes:
1) Norse mythology theme. Ulfhednar etc.
2) Less Norse, but kind of close. Hellslayers, Ravens, etc.
3) Deceptive names, like Special Social Security Service.
4) Non-deceptive acronyms, like modern special forces. Like Special Augmented Reconnaissance Sabotage and Assassination Force (SARSAF), or simply RSA, or maybe Advanced Augmentics Counter-Chaos Force. Or BADASS(Brutal Assassination Department of Avernus Special Service):D

BADASS(Brutal Assassination Department of Avernus Special Service):D
I admit I like BADASS, but I do think we have a theme going...

How about Hel Hunters?

Got some alliteration going, descriptive of their day job (hunting max level psykers and Daemon fondlers) and gets across their badassness.

Ask Muspelheim, they have his records :V
Yeah they probably do and I can tell you what they say.

That he is still on duty.

Yeah that actually happened they cannot take him off duty.

In general, Librarians tend to have somewhat better power and significantly better control than most human psykers. Compared to our neoastropaths, Librarians can and have acted in place of regular astropaths.
There's also the whole like calls to like thing to consider as well.

Astropaths all have the same frequency, and astartes (of the same geneseed) have very similar ones as well so they can reach further.

Also, I forget another variant - Avernus flora and fauna. I like Blink Spiders variant, but I seem alone in it.
I personally have nothing against Blink spiders, the problem is the rest of Avernus does.

Our entire population has arachnophobia to a level that's probably going to become genetic and for good reason so naming something after them while scary isn't really a good idea.

Especially since as far as I can tell the Elite Ops are not meant to be intimidating (well not to the people of Avernus anyway)
