Omake - To be determined?

For decades now the proliferation of Junior Military schools with heavy specializations on survival and combat ability have opened in great numbers throughout the planet. Many graduating cadets find themselves a step higher than their peers in upon conscription and most stay in the service until death. Today we meet with Lieutenant Mellisa Von Crantz who is a descendant to the still aging Herbert Von Crantz of the Cadian colonists. Today we explore the life of this young lady from the point of view of the school and her early career in the military.

Melissa was the cadet commander and valedictorian of the Isenwall Military School in Hollin, Lindon. The School is a Junior Officer Academy with top class professors in the fields of mathematics, logistics, navigation, and of course tactical combat. Like many people of Lindon Melissa grew up in an environment where watching for danger was paramount. She was the subject of regular attacks daily by Carniflowers, Phase Tigers, and in the instances where she left the Hive Illusionary Pines.

Regardless Mellisa would press on with the will of the Emperor and grew through the ranks of the Academy.

[Reporter]: What made Melissa Von Crantz so success in your school Commandant?
[Commandant]: Well a number of things really but chief among them was her attitude towards life. In her words, she would never accept giving up or allowing her fellow cadets give up in anything. In the schools mandatory volunteering hours she could be seen manning the phones for suicide prevention in the school and in the Hive's Sucide prevention services also.
[Reporter]: When did she start doing that?
Commandant: As Early as 15 years old for the school and 17 for the Hives. I think on the average week she would spend 20 hours on suicide prevention and still continue to have a 3.5 GPA in our school.

Melissa was also known as in the school as 'Mother Tiger' and 'Cranky Maid' by her cadets illustrating the amount of care and snark her fellow cadets regard her with. She was very well known to keep her people marching in line and to help each other in times of need for anything from combat to academic studies and beyond.

[Former Cadet]: This one time a guy from our squad said he was leaving because he couldn't pass chemistry or Calculus in the school and that he was going to withdraw and take the classes elsewhere. He was a good guy but painfully slow in learning harder topics and we all thought it would be better if he did leave to somewhere easier. Somehow though Crantz found out and ordered the whole squad to have a study session and paired the best performing cadets with the worst performing cadets to help him out during our extra time in the school.

She never let us walk away from each other after either because she still calls us over to the bar to hang out and stuff. She really is a cheerleader man i'll tell you.

Melissa also gained the nickname 'Gentle Fist' from her opponents in the Gubernational hand to hand tournament. Her record was being part of the top 3 competitiors every single year and coming in first place by beating out a Schola Progenium cadet who would later become her commanding officer in the army. We go not to Captain David Shultz of the Helltroopers.

[Reporter]: In Avernus we hear alot about the violence that comes married to the unique fighting styles of our people. Why was she given the nickname 'Gentle Fist'?

[David]: *Chuckles* Well because when you went down it would be as fast as an aggressive fighter coming out for a one combo knockout but instead of breaking your body she would punch you in such a way that the body failed without it hurting. It was like being paralyzed when you were hit like if you were stung by some weird wasp. I remember that after her first couple of fights the referee's would call for an immediate check on her fists for something. It was almost surreal how good she was in taking out her opponents.

[Reporter] Can you tell us how fight with you and Melissa went?

[David] To be honest it was a very fatal mistake that I made due to having won the competition for so many years in a row. I know that sounds condescending but I beg you to listen to this truth. I remember leaving my feet with less attention as I slowly got closer and closer at the opening bell. She followed me up to close the distance and instead of having a standing battle she kicked my knee to the side and forced me on a knee. Before I could react she came in hit me with her opposite hand with a chopper putting in all of her weight behind it. The rest was history and I was too stun to notice why I was on the floor.

For the record though, In our spars in the barracks i'm 13-0. I still have a reputation for graduating out of the Schola Progenium to keep up.

[Reporter] Sounds like an violent romance in the making Captain.

[David] *Laughs* You think so? Ha!

During the Academy it was well known that Melissa lost her mother to a Phase Tiger ambush when she was only 13 leaving her to the care of only her father who spent more time working to pay for the tuition bills at the Academy. In these trying times she looked to none other than her two role models Samantha Khol of the Avernus Spine Regional Command and Syr Rotbart the Governors only heir and a Brigandier General in the Helltroopers. She says that at the time she tried to connect to as many people as possible about the pain she felt during the loss of her mother. Going so far as to send written letters with Khol and Rotbart.

Miraculously they and other responded in kind which brought Melissa much needed help in those maturing times. It is the goal of Melissa now to one day to serve under Samantha Khol and Syr Rotbart before going on to becoming Grand Marshal of the Avernus PDF one day.

EDIT: PM's preferably would be nice

Is it possible to shoot down or otherwise deflect all the roks landing on the city, specifically? If we get rid of them, the situation is much more simplified in our favor.
yes it is, judging by your recent experiences 16/30 will be deflected by the defences without any bonuses, if you manage to add enough force multipliers and additional attacks (and roll well) you may get the remaining 14

@Durin have the orbital defence lasers of cities not under attack not been firing on the ork fleet this whole time and has the fleet not been harassing?

I think Garkill's fleet is out of effective range. He's too smart to park his ships in range of anti-orbital weapons.
And the fleet hasn't continued harassment?

@Durin
1. What is Tranth's projected life span assuming he doesn't die... surprisingly unlikely given that he is actually one of our better combatants?
2. Can we start suggesting names for the Iota cities?

Also someone needs to start making a plan or I'm going to try... god damn it I'm trying.

yes, I will show the result of that when the main fleet arrives

1. 1,000-2,000 years unless another discovery is made
2. yes

[X] Plan: PSYKERS OF DOOOOOOOM

[] Fighter Option Four- Press the attack on ork fighters, where applicable work with Illusionists to make the Ork AA and Fighters in fight and generally make it easier for our fighters
[] Bomber Option Four- Staggered bombing of Artillery after the Fighters have engaged, see if they can drop spare Death Strike charges on the Orks while they are at it, even if they have to use Hercules.
[] Salem Rok Option Four: Cook em, have the Pyromancy choir force detonations and intense flames within as many roks as possible, while coming under fire from the rest of the city, While doing option 2 for the siege lines.

[] Redeployment- Redeploy all Members of the Govenor's Own who are available and the Felblades to Salem
[] Move Heroes- Move Rotbart and Grand Master Ridcully to Salem
[] Move Psykers- Move all psykers to Salem in preparation for the greatest exploitation of Psyker effectiveness in this games history.

[] Actions for Heroic Psykers-
Tamia- Use massive scale Siren's song, project it over speakers in fighters if needed, but use it to get the orks to in fight, play on their natural inclinations to prove themselves the toughest, flatter their egos and make them prove it to themselves and each other.
Ridcully- get rushed in with Divination choir either through teleportation or rail which ever is fastest, and coordinate with the cities gunners to get the path that shoots down the most roks, priorities the ones coming at Salem. Once the roks have landed teleport back to Dis to aim the Deathstrikes.
Xavier- Use pyromancy to explode fuel, enhance flames and change engine direction of as many roks as possible, get them to hit each other, cause domino effects within roks and coordinate with Ridcully if possible for maximum effect.
[] Actions for Psyker Choirs- Daemonology choir stand by to intercept Garkill's ritual, if possible from the ground run interference on the Weird Boyz while they're incoming. Keep a division of the best demonologists ready to teleport Ridcully back to Dis to coordinate the Deathstrikes.
Illusion choir assist the fighters, focus on making the orkish AA and Fighter bomba's confused and infight
Telepathic choir, follow Tamia's lead
Divination Choir follow Ridcully's lead
Pyromancy Choir follow Xavier's lead
Biomancy Choir keep the other choirs and psykers fresh
Telekinetic choir enhance the cities macro canons or attempt to interfere with rok movement to make them crash into one another which ever is easier.

This plan is crap, which it should be its 00:38 AM for me I don't really know tactics, but nobody was making a plan so I thought I'd at least try to get the ball rolling.

@Durin any comments on my terrible plan of terribleness?

you ahve a mention of heaving the diviners aim the deathstrikes but not any of firing them

I think the Telekinetic Choir could reinforce the Void Shields?
Void shields aren't really effective for deflecting the Roks—they seem to fall in the same category as boarding shuttles and the like.

Way I see it, psykers should be as follows:
Gerald Xavier:
  1. Lead a Pyromancy choir focusing on deflecting and damaging Roks that target Salem, most likely by detonating their thrusters.
  2. After Roks have landed, either assist in clearing the in-city Roks or helping to disrupt the Weirdboyz ritual by killing them with fire. For ritual targeting, maybe in conjunction with Deathstrikes to supplement their effects.
  3. If he's not fatigued from above, have him be part of the Garkill hunting squad.
Grandmaster Ridcully:
  1. Move to Salem and lead Divination choir to assist in deflecting the Roks, with the specific defenses/choirs he focuses on aiding based on our understanding of what will provide the greatest boost to deflection.
  2. Once Roks have landed, provide divinatory support for any Deathstrike launches and attempts to disrupt the Weirdboyz ritual.
  3. Provide divinatory support for the Garkill hunting squad.
  4. If fatigue is not an issue in completing the above, also try to provide divinatory support for the rest of the battle.
Tamia Jameson:
  1. Lead Songweaving choir in providing assistance in deflecting Roks, using whatever Psyker powers and schools expected to provide the greatest increase in deflections and damage (with the obvious caveats of not causing daemons everywhere or burning out all the psykers or the like).
  2. Once the Roks have landed, priority shifts to providing support in disrupting the Weirdboyz ritual, most likely through telepathic attacks/nudging.
  3. If it will not interfere with above priority, use Songweaving choir to help remove in-city Roks, likely either through large-scale telekinesis or damaging them with Pyromancy.
Other Psyker assets potentially involved in the battle:
  • Daemonology choir(s) are to attempt to disrupt the Weirdboyz ritual. If it will not interfere with disrupting the ritual, they will also try to boost the choirs involved in deflecting the Roks, with priority given to the choirs that would most likely end up deflecting the most extra Roks with their support.
  • Telekinetic choir(s) are to attempt to deflect the Roks in the most effective manner possible, most likely either through large-scale direct telekinesis, some form of shielding, or enhancing the Macrocannon batteries. Once the Roks have landed, their priority shifts to removing the Roks inside the city if possible and otherwise defending the city.
  • Pyromancy choir(s) are to join Xavier in deflecting Roks. Once the Roks have landed, their general priority shifts to (1) clearing out Roks that are inside the city (2) enhancing tactical/strategic scale strikes (like the Deathstrike hits) and (3) general support of city defenses.
  • Telepathy choir(s) are to attempt to convince the Orks steering the Roks attempting to land in Salem to land elsewhere if feasible, using their/our best judgement on what precise methodology to use (creating the illusion that Salem is in a different location, identifying and targeting individual minds, helping to coordinate our other efforts to deflect the Roks, hiding our bomb-shuttles that try to suicide-bomb the Rok, creating infighting over who exactly is steering the Rok, whatever else we can come up with). Once the Roks have landed, their number one priority it to help disrupt the Weirdboyz ritual in a manner less likely to have a suddenly daemons everywhere happen, most likely by creating infighting and the like. Their secondary priority will be general support of defensive efforts.
  • Biomancy choir(s) should enfeeble Orks within Roks prior to their landing in the city IF they are landing hard enough that this will likely cause significant casualties for them. They should otherwise support city defenses and getting rid of Roks by enfeebling Orks and augmenting/healing humans as the situation dictates.
  • Psyker regiments should aid in sieges/assaults on Roks where they would be most useful, and may also be used to retake breaches and the like.

don't see any issues with this, nice trick with the biomancers by the way, the Roks do land hard and if an Ork is enfeebled it will become dangerous

So the goal is to deflect enough Roks for there to be 12 Roks max headed straight for the city, and for Ridcully & Diviners to figure out which those are. Sounds reasonable.

So the goal is to deflect enough Roks for there to be 12 Roks max headed straight for the city, and for Ridcully & Diviners to figure out which those are. Sounds reasonable.
We can't blow the full 12 up then—that's how many we'd destroy if we focused on destruction instead of deflection. Basically we could destroy 12 of the 30 heading directly for the city or we can instead try to deflect as many as possible, which will involve spreading out the damage more.

Rough Draft Plan:

[] Option Two: Escort your other air forces- This will allow your fighters to escort your other air forces as they carry out their duties, reducing the number of casulties they suffer from both Ork Fighter-Bombers and AA.

[] Bomber Option Two: Defensive Bombing- This involves coordinating bombing runs with the command of the cities under attack in order to help defend the walls, it will result in a decent number of casulties from Ork AA but should lower the pressure on your cities walls.

Anyone have better ideas here?

[] Salem Rok Option Three: Assault the Roks- One option would be to have your forces set up siege lines around the Roks to contain them while elite forces board and destroy the Roks one at a time. -While this is the fastest way to destroy the Roks it will result in your elites suffering casualties as they are forced to assault highly fortified positions, likely defended by Ork elites.

[] Other Rok Option Three: Assault the Roks- One option would be to have your forces set up siege lines around the Roks to contain them while elite forces board and destroy the Roks one at a time. -While this is the fastest way to destroy the Roks it will result in your elites suffering casualties as they are forced to assault highly fortified positions, likely defended by Ork elites.

Tend to feel that leaving the Roks inside the cities alone would be bad. Seems less costly to assault them, but I'm very open to a better idea.

(Note we can move up to 858 additional regiments to Beirut, but not sure I want to pull that many forces away from elsewhere. What do others think?)

(Maybe we can move units up from Okefenokee, and then fly in units from Duat?)

Move 3 Svartalfar Guard Regiments, 4 Svartalfar Elite Regiments, 40 Helltroopers, and 150 PDF from Mirkwood to Lorien
Move 4 Svartalfar Guard Regiments, 40 Helltroopers, and 150 PDF from Hollin to Lorien
Move 3 Svartalfar Guard Regiments, 6 Helguard, 20 Helltroopers, and 200 PDF from Dorthonion to Lorien

(Probably need to move some more units from Avernus Spine to Lorien... combat should be 2 to 3 days away, and they have no psyker support.)

(Need to add a section moving more forces from Garden Grove and Nurn up to Malea)

Air lift (w/ escort) 4 Svartalfar Guard Regiments, 20 Helguard, 100 Helltrooper, and 300 PDF from The Fair Isle to Garden Grove, then use rail to transport them to Yphax

[] Actions for Psykers/Special Units

-[] Salem Psykers:

Part One: Anti-Rok defense (takes place when the Roks are landing)

Xavier and one Pyromancy choir are assigned to knocking Roks off target
Primaris Hobbs and one Pyromancy choir are assigned to knocking Roks off target
Tamia and the Songweavers are assigned to knocking Roks off target
1 Choir (divination 2), Diviner (G) assigned to assisting in the targeting of the Pyromancers and the city lasers
Grandmaster Ridcully and his divination choir are assigned to assisting in the targeting of the Pyromancers and the city lasers
Both telekinesis choirs assist the city lasers and the Pyromancers in knocking Roks off target
The telepathic choir targets the Ork armies with their new leaders, encouraging infighting
Daemonology choirs rest and prepare for disrupting the weirdboyz
Biomancy choirs enfeeble the Orks inside a Rok just as it hits the ground

Care should be taken not to exhaust anyone needed in key locations in the next phase.

(Note: If someone can draft up a version of the cargo ships hitting Roks that would be helpful.)

Part Two: Countering the Weirdboyz, Deathstrikes galore (takes place after the Roks have landed and Garkill is preparing the assualt/weirdboy ritual)

Xavier and the two daemonology focus on counterspelling the weirdboyz
Tamia, the Songweavers, and the telepathic choir focus on disrupting the weirdboyz (messing up their targeting)
Both telekinetic choirs focus on strengthening the city defences
Primaris Hobbs and both pyromancy choirs have the first priority of burning out any Roks that landed inside the city, second priority is killing weirdboyz
Launch 10 Deathstrike batteries (1,000 missiles) distributed to kill weirdboyz
Launch 20 Deathstrike batteries followed by 1 Life-eater Deathstrike battery focused on Garkill and his Meganobs
Launch 20 Deathstrike batteries focused on destroying Gargents
Grandmaster Ridcully and his divination choir assist in Deathstrike targeting
1 Choir (divination 2), Diviner (G) assist the other psyker choirs in their operations
Both biomancy choirs with Master Rana hit the Orks with enfeeblement just before the Deathstrikes hit
Saint Lin provides whatever benefit his presence and counseling can provide the psykers in keeping themselves stable

Part Three: Clean up and Boss Duel (remainder of the initial Slaem combat)

Xavier (assuming he has the energy), Surt, and Rotbart (w/ Fire Giants and Governors Own) make up a kill squad focused on finding an opportunity to kill Garkill
Grandmaster Ridcully and his divination choir focus on finding Garkill and getting him killed
Tamia, the Songweavers, and the telepathic choir rest in preparation to encouraging massive internal disruption in the case of Garkill dying.
I'm assuming the daemonology choirs will be too tired to do anything more, but if they are available they focus on killing mid-tier Ork leaders (possibly in cooperation with the psyker teams). If needed, rest so that they can provide teleportation for the psykers choirs to other cities after Salem assualt is repulsed).
Primaris Hobbs and both pyromancy choirs continue pyromantic fire support for the troops.
Master Rana and the biomancy choirs assist in providing targeted enfeeblement of Orks and buffing human soldiers (goal is to identify key battles and buff the allies while enfeebling the Orks they are fighting).
Both telekinetic choirs provide spot defense as needed by the fighting soldiers
1 Choir (divination 2), Diviner (G) assist in task assignment for the pyromancers, biomancers, and telekinetics

[] Beirut Psykers:

Launch 10 Deathstrike batteries at the forces approaching Beirut
Telepathic Choir (arriving from Dis) works to encourage infighting among the Ork, exploiting the killing of Ork leaders by Jane and the Psyker Hunters

[] Malea

Pyromancy choir with Primarus Rattary work to deflect Roks as they approach the city. Once Roks have stopped falling on Malea, transit south to Yphax and prepare to do the same thing.
Pyromancer (G) and Master Zhukov work with Psyker Regiments in supporting the assault on any Roks that land inside the city.
Launch 6.97 Deathstrike batteries at the forces approaching Malea immediately after the Roks land

That's about as far as I have gotten before burning out. Need sleep.

Haven't read all the posts since Durin went up so I apologize if I have missed any of the discussion about plans. Will revise tomorrow morning, but now I must sleep...

AN: Whoops, I made Fred too hardcore. Oh well. This is what you get when you bio-splice your genome with weird shit you found in the dungeons: Betcher's epidurals and angry-hot girlfriends.

And just for the curious, Konroy Rotbart fathered Arthur Rotbart and Eric Rotbart. Arthur Rotbart fathered Iris Rotbart, mother of Henry Rotbart V, who married Athena Magdalene to produce Frederick II.
So, is there a difference between Avernus space marines vanilla space marines? I mean, there's all the deathworld genetic whupass going on and then probably the emperor tinkering around with the Gene-seed.
That said, amazing Omake.

Tend to feel that leaving the Roks inside the cities alone would be bad. Seems less costly to assault them, but I'm very open to a better idea.
If our Void Shields can keep Garkill from teleporting in his Boyz by the millions I think it should be fine to keep the Beirut Roks under siege until we can spare some Pyromancers to cook them.
This of course assumes that the Roks don't have with built-in Macrocannons surprises or something.

EDIT: I think we should assault the ones in Salem if any land in-city. We need to focus on defending the Wall, and have better heavy-infantry to take point in assaults there (ie. Surt and the Fire Giants).

@Elder Haman
I like most of what you've done with the plan, few concerns though.

First and most importantly, I'd like to add Horatius Cocles (the Varangian Guard chaplain) to the kill team. Dude has Astares base damage and health, has excellent combat stats, and has melee skills and a Paragon trait custom-made for handling things like this.

Second, I'm not sure what you're doing with Xavier in the dispelling portion. I mean, I could read it as him joining with the Daemonology choirs for the counter-spell attempt or I could read it as him focusing on disrupting the ritual any way he wants and thereby aiding the Daemonology choirs. If you're having him lead the choirs there, though, I'd get some input from Durin for if that would be a good idea, as Xavier has no natural affinity for Daemonology and would be working with a low bonus due to lower experience there too. Having to deal with walls coming down, suddenly daemons, and losing a very hard to replace hero unit plus choir is a very bad worst case scenario that could very well happen there with one bad roll.
