Then Durin has a flaw in the system, however if you look closely then you'll see that almost all combat is deployment. Actual tactics come down to the dice rolls and when we have tactics decisions then it's in relation to enemy plans like marching on the DE city and is narrative with a mechanical bonus/malus to the rolls.

As soon as the Ork landing sites became clear you began to deploy the light forces of Avernus to prepare their approaches to your cities. Thanks to careful use of the transport regiments and cargo wings of Avernus they were able to get within a hundred and fifty kilometers of the Ork Shantytowns by the end of the first day, the closest that you judge they can safely approach. In this time tens of millions of Spider Mines were set up on the most likely approaches to the cities of Avernus, where possible at good sites for ambushes to that your light forces could take full advantage of the disruption that the mines will cause.

A day after the Ork's finished landing they began to stream from the Shantytowns towards your nearest cities, a process that your analysts expect to take around five days in the more open regions, more if Orks continue to be landed at the Shantytowns. More then anything else the footage that your scouts have recorded of the seemingly unending tide of Orks pouring out of the Shantytowns drives home exactly how many Orks there are, and how much of a threat they could be. At their current rate of movement you expect the first Ork attacks on your cities to occur in around six days time in Aridia while the last attack will take place in sixteen days in Duat. Given that a hundred Gargents have joined each of the armies they will have the firepower to breach your walls.

For the next five days as the Ork hordes advanced your light forces harassed the Orks, taking full advantage of their disorganised nature to attack isolated warbands, lead them into ambushes and conduct hit and run attacks on the edges of the hordes. While these engagements were happening your fighters fought a fierce battle to keep the Orkish Fighter-Bombers away from the combat, and succeeded due to the Orkish airforce being split between anti-harassment and escorting landers, as well as the fact that the engagement has moved away from the Rok's AA. However as time went on the continuous stream of reinforcements that the Orks received started to tell as did the level of fatigue that you pilots were slowly developing. However on the fifth day the Ork Fleet stopped sending down extra Fighter-Bombers, leaving your airforce outnumbered a bit over two to one which due to the superiority of your fighters and AA is something that you can handle, unless of course Garkill has even more fighters waiting in reserve.

In Elysium Marshal Bruhn dispatched most of the Red Tracks to work with some the Magos Biologis in order to attempt to drive Thundabeast herds at either the Ork Hordes or the landing zones. The group working on the north achieved a measure of success quickly, and managed to divert a Thundabeast Herd of almost half a million into the path o he Orks approaching Malea that reached them two days after leaving the Roks. While the southern group took a bit more time to divert their target herd this was because it was one of the larger herds in the region, numbering around two million Thundabeasts. Interestingly this herd will hit the middle of the Orkish Horde just as the front ranks reach Yphax, providing an oppetunity to sally in force. The first herd of Thundabeasts hits the Ork Horde with seemingly unstoppable force, shrugging off all but the largest caliber solid and the weaker energy weapons, of which the Orks do not use many of in the first place. In return the Thundabeasts had enough force behind them to stampede over everything that the Orks tired to stop them with, which unfortunately did not include any Gargents. To make matters worse your harassment force took full advantage of both the damage and the massive amount of confusion inflicted on the Orks by the Thundabeasts and the weakness that your Psyker were inflicting on them to launch a series of devastating attacks, over tripling the kill count, which is now over a hundred and twenty million. It took half a day for the Orks to recover from the combination of the Thundabeast stampede and the raids that followed it. Raids on the southern force were not nearly as effective due to the lack of disruption. One interesting facet of this conflict has been that the Ork Speed Freaks, who would normally be the first line of defence in situations like this seem to have been kept back from the fighting for some reason. With a Thundabeast herd of two million being expected to hit one of the Hordes in the net day and a eighth of the Orks already dead the situation in Elysium is far better then it could be, though reports that there are Orks gathering near the railway connection to the rest of Avernus means that it could soon be cut off from contact.

It is in Aridia that the greatest number of Orks are gathered and therefore it is in Aridia in which you use the greatest amount of your resources, ranging from tens of millions of Spider Mines to Priamris Xavier and the Phase-Tigers, who assassinate one of Garkill's subordinate Warlords shortly after he leaves the Shantytown and then take out a massive number of the lesser leaders in his horde. Between the attacks of your soldiers, the minefields and the actions of your psykers who convinced many of the Ork bosses to send their forces out to hunt down the wildlife, often resulting in Titan-Scorpions eating well, over half a billion Orks fell in Aridia over the last five days, a full eighth of their number. However this leaves three hordes bearing down on Salem, containing over two and a half billion Orks and three hundred Gargents. Beirut is also under major threat, with an Orkish Horde of almost a billion being expected to attck it in a bit over a day. To make matters worse you have been forced to collapse the tunnels connecting Salem to both Hollin and Silver Lakes after Ork siege tunnels dug their way in, leaving only the connection to Babylon intact and even that is likely to be found once the Orks reach Salem.

Where in Aridia the Orks suffered massively from the power of your military the carnage in Duat was primarily wrought by the wildlife, which killed three Orks for every Ork killed directly by a human. Many of these losses were caused by your Diviners locating Sun Beetles near the Orks and then your telepaths making a nearby Ork kill the Sun Beetle, triggering massive explosions. More Orks died as they forded the Duat, right where the King Ammut Crocodile was currently resting. Between the King Ammut Crocodile, the other nearby Ammut Crocodiles and the other monsters of the river over a hundred million Orks died crossing the Duat, though the Ork Warlord personally killed the King Ammut Crocodile and claimed a breastplate from its corpse. With over a third of their number already dead and two weeks left to travel the Ork Horde in Duat is the least threatening of the Hordes, particularly now that almsot all of the Speed Freaks and Boyz that have been shielding the major elements have fallen.

A bit over three and a half days after the Orks arrived in the system the Imperial Trust Fleet started to exit the Warp thirty seven AU from Avernus. It took ten hours for the entire fleet to arrive, showing why it would have been so dangerous to exit the Warp in the middle of the Ork fleet. The Imperial Trust Fleet is commanded by Admiral Freyr from the Alexander Class Command Battleship Memory of Light, and includes dozens of Battleships, hundreds of cruisers and several thousands escorts along with a few hundred military transports containing the Imperial Trust Guard and a Midgardian expeditionary force. It will take around two weeks for the fleet as a whole to reach Avernus, though the faster elements will start arriving within ten days. Admiral Freyr estimates that he will be able to clear the orbitals of Orks within a few days of arriving, with only Death's Harbinger being able to put up any real fight against his fleet. In fact if it was not for Death's Harbinger he believes that the fast elements of his fleet could take the orbitals before the rest of the fleet reaches Avernus.

As the Ork horde start their final approaches to Salem Malea and Yphax you consider the events of the last five days, and what can be learned from it. To begin with the Hordes approaching Salem are currently your biggest threat, though those in Elysium may soon cut off the region from easy reinforcement which would give them the potentional to become major threats tot he region if they are reinforced. On the flip side the Horde in Duat is likely to be reduced enough that it is no threat at all by the time that it reaches any of your cities, especially given the fact that at current speeds it will still be reproaching Iota Two when Admiral Freyr takes control of the orbitals. The battle in the skies is currently looking like your forces will be able to win with massive casualties, though if Garkill has many Fighter-Bombers in reserve that may change. It may be wise to withdraw your airforce for a day in order to let it rest before restarting operations, though that will leave your harassment forces without air cover for a day.

Sorry for the delay but I had to entirely rework my combat system for this update
I will post current forces and options tomorrow, or the next day if something comes up
as a remainder I provide bonuses to war turns for Omakes, and they can have a major impact when operating on this scale
 
Rakes is not exactly our greatest fighter.
Should we import a better personal combatant to Duat to claim that Ork's life and breastplate?
