We sell like 100 a year to them in our trades with them.

And still the question will be will we attack garkill first and if we do then there is some point to go plop urselves down on a weaker ork world and fight him there instead of the incoming attack or do that after garkill attack but more thourghly especially if u manage to kill him and garkill should be met with serious forces in space to try to slow down his main advantage if we let him come. Counter raiding valinor to cripple their ship production is a idea to think about aswell and i do like the basic ambush plan currently . (raiding after the ambush is a pretty interesting tought especially if garkill gives time for it)

Knowing Thy Enemy
Omake - Knowing Thy Enemy

General Syr went though paperwork much more quickly these days as monster attacks were no longer her worry in Void duty. With nothing to distract her from paperwork she could focus indefinetly in logistics and patrol routes and with no casualties to speak of she didn't have to fill out form ITA 10B-Zeta. But Syr was not as content as she would like to be here on the station. Even now her Father, Ridculy, and the Chief of Staffs were in Midgard for the strategic talks. She wasn't told much about it due to how her Father wanted to keep confidentiality on this issue, which was fine. What wasn't fine was her requests on Valinor military capabilities were not being fulfilled..an she could do nothing about it.

Requests to her father, the Inquisition, and the original source of the Astartes. The first two rejected it outright due to how her father simply didn't want to give out that information until she had earned her place in war truly and earned higher ranks within the service. The Inquisition simply said that 'the information is too critical to give out and will be declassified at the pleasure of the Inquisition'. But the Varangian Guard were Syr's real interest.

Why did they never affirm anything? She knew they had to all be busy with founding an entire planet and organize a PDF but surely they could make some time?

She sighed as she reacher her 75% completion of paperwork for the day. Her autoquill going through several vials of Inks and her eyes finding looking at anything other than papers to be disgusting. She reclined in her chair and reached for her Vox.

"Margerine could you send me some coffee please?"

Margerine had been a great help to her. She was a secretary at heart but a fine shot with her rifle better than Syr on average as Syr simply took her time to prace sword play rather than shooting bullseye all day. Margerine was also really good at getting the perfect blend of coffee for Syr when she needed a boost of caffeine in the day.

"I'll be up soon ma'am. By the way we have a visitor wanting to speak with you from Byzantium. May they pass through the checkpoints?"

Syr fell into quite for a minuite as her brain processed this. Were they going to deliver a datapad on Valinor? Or were they here to just respectfully say to not bother them anymore. In the end, it matters not though for Syr. She gave the messenger access and waited patiently as she heard double door after double door open for him. As an outsider whoever they are they may not enjoy the redundant security that Avernite architects sometimes used but even in the void the need to fortify was strong.

A knock on the door goes three times and she raises her voice slightly to tell them to enter. The door opens an Syr see's a brown robed man with his hood down. He wears a large necklace with a symbol of the Varangian guard and comes with no weaspons. He is balding slightly with only grey hair covering the sides and a medium sized beared hiding most of his face save his lips.

"Ave Imperator General. I am Selucid Chapter Serf of the Varangian Guard."

Syr took his greeting and smiled as her proffesors in the Imperial Trust Academy told her to as part of the 'Inter-Planetary Combining standards' before replying in kind.

"Well me Selucid, I am Syr Rotbart Scion to the Planet of Avernus and dauther of the departed Lady Freya Njordmatter of the Vanir. I hope your travel through the warp was well."

The messenger nodded his head before speaking again.

"Yes it was Lady General and Emperor willing will be allowed to return with the same trip. I come here to bear a message from my Master. Normally we would not give out such information as the battle logs of our battles with Valinor for it exposes our fighting patterns but my Lord has decided to take a chance with you Syr Rotbart.

It is in our Lords hope that you will attain a high level of competence at command and that by knowing the enemy now you will be able to formulate strategies that can become the means of victory against the common enemy, the Arch-Enemy."

Syr stood up with gusto. This was like a dream come true and their didn't seem to be any strings attached to this at all.

"We however do ask that you do not share this information with anyone on pain of death." the messenger deadpanned.

An with that she was taken back just as quickly as she was excited by this sudden turn of events. How lucky can someone be in the Imperial Trust? Lucky enough that only a death threat was your cost for such highly valued information. She would not complain about the one string however.

"Lord Julius is truly charitable and confident in my abilities. What can I say but that I accept any help I can get in my studies of our enemies."

Selucid smiled slightly before showing a metal box wrapped in shining chains. He put it on the desk along with a key which he opened and handed over a data slate to Syr.

"I wish you luck young Syr but words to remember: Knowledge can be corrupting.

While we make sure that there is no such influence in this data slate I must encourage you to be wary in the future. I knew a good man that lost his mind to the dark powers by such covert means."

Syr nodded and expressed her agreement on the matter. She was going to have the slate checked by her special connections in the Inquisition anyways. She knew Klovis would be a bit peeved about this but would allow her to keep it if it meant the Astartes trusted her. The coffee arrived and Syr had a chat with the messenger for awhile learning more about the chapter serf and of his fellows. According to Selucid, he was once a Brigadier General of a planet in the Ultramar sector tasked with assisting Imperial Crusades before his son became an Astartes. Apparently, he followed his son ever since as a chapter serf and has served even when his son died during the Space Marines long journey from Rome. Selucid is a definitely a devoted soldier from what Syr can tell always talking about how proud he was of being allowed to lead the Imperial Guard in stalwart defenses against all comers from rebels, traitors, orks, and once against a khornate warband that tore through several regiments until he maneuvered several tanks to suround and blast them to bits. He is especially proud of that moment.

An with that he leaves aboard his ship and makes his way back to Byzantium while Syr finishes her paperwork for the day only to go straight to the Vox and putting in a request for Klovis-Ulthuans time. Lately he hasn't been very responsive but she could be patient as in the meantime she locked the data slate in her office vault (where she kept her contraband candy). As she went later to bed in her sleep cycle she dreamed greatly of the battles she would wage on her future foes of the stratagems she had learned to use in the Eternal war finally being used on a new enemy. An enemy that can be beaten utterly instead of waiting form them to return hours later. She slept well that sleep cycle.

1. If I can make a suggestion, perhaps you can use some of the ideas for planets made during the world creation of this game for polities? Many of them were pretty interesting and it'll be fun seeing them in-game.
2. Can we use the planet creation system as a template for polity omakes?

Guys I have an idea for a bird animal familiar with an Egyptian theme. Should I make an omake or just suggest it? Not sure which to do..

++Thought for the Day: The road to purity is drenched in the blood of the martyred.++

The history of Tianes began in the waning years of the Age of the Imperium, the Time of Ending. It did not begin in Tianes itself, however, infested as it was by Lokrishans (a now-existinct xenos race). Rather, it began far away to the east in the core worlds of Ultima Segmentum.

The Imperium had launched the Jenovan Crusade to reclaim and conquer a number of worlds after an unusual calmness in the Warp had made them easy to access. At its head was Lord General Militant Morgan Vient who was not incompetent but had gotten his rank mostly thanks to familial ties. One of the multi-regimental battlegroups that fought under his overall command was led by General Holster Tianes, a rising star in the Astra Militarum who had reached his rank at a relatively young age.

Vient saw Tianes as a threat as his competence was seeing him rise faster through the ranks than himself. Soon he would be forced to make him a Lord General and then Vient would look bad in comparison to Vient. Vient assigned Tianes to command the felinid regiments the Munitorum had assigned to the crusade and ordered him to attack a fortified xenos world on his own, ostensibly to test his talent but really to disgrace him enough that he wouldn't climb higher through the ranks. Vient thought of the felinids as disposable due to their abhuman nature and had little issue with sending them to their deaths.

To the Lord General Militant's surprise, Tianes had not only succeeded in taking the world, but though his army had taken major casualties they were low enough that they could still take part in the crusade. The main contributors to his success were his own genius and the dedication of the felinids under his command; they saw success as the only way to repent for the sin of not being born as pure humans.

Tianes' performance in the Jenovian Crusade meant Vient couldn't not promote him, but using his connections he would ensure he was out of the way. Tianes, now Lord General Tianes, was to be sent to the galactic west in Segmentum Pacificus and exterminate all sentient non-human life on the planet Lokrish, thus bringing the planet into the Emperor's domain. Tianes was given as many felinid troops as could be given for his task. This was because Vient didn't see the point in sending valuable human troops he could use himself into exile with Tianes and so any successes on Tianes' part would be played down due to the inevitably high usage of abhuman troops. Without high amounts of prestige, the odds of Tianes' returning to cause him grief was that much lower. The official excuse was that Tianes had shown great ability at commanding such troops and it would only make sense to give him more of them.

On the way to the planet, the battlegroup was diverted many times to assist in various campaigns against the xeno menace - eight times against orks and four times against miscellaneous xenos species. By the time they had arrived at Lokrish, Tianes' forces were crack, battle-hardened troops, but sorely depleted. Still they attacked.

The Lokrishans were a primitive race, only recently managing to get manned vessels into space. They did have numbers, though, and had warred against each other enough times that they had well-developed militaries to face the Hammer of the Emperor. Still, against such veteran troops, the advanced technology of the Imperium, and the long experience and talent of the Lord General, they were without doubt qualitatively inferior.

The first continent was taken in a lightning blitz when the various nation states of Lokrish had little time to prepare. This first continent could not easily be taken via land, sea, or air, only by the void, and the Lokrishans did not have void assets. This massive strategic advantage was necessary to fight off the vast hordes of the Lokrishans, horrified by the whole-scale genocide inflicted by the aliens invading their world. During this time Tianes could only defend as he didn't have enough troops to go on the offensive. He also couldn't expect reinforcements, so the business of setting up infrastructure, manufactorums, and cities began using the enslaved, castrated xenos populations they had subdued. Within 23 years the battlegroup had finished self-reinforcing and renewed their offensive against an enemy who had by now committed themselves to total war.

It took 112 years until the planet's conquest was complete and every last Lokrishan was either dead or enslaved. Holster Tianes himself had died 10 years before the end, when the last of the nation states had finally developed and deployed an atomic bomb. The planet was renamed Tianes by the felinids in his honour.

Since then and the death of the Emperor, the felinids of Tianes have fought off multiple major ork attacks and the subsequent infestations. The first ork attack came as a surprise and wiped out 25% of the total population before finally being defeated. That event prompted the full militarisation of the planet's population. All able citizens would have to spend several hours a week drilling in the militia, with each citizen spending 3 years active in the militia when they turn 18.

Imperial-grade wargear is restricted to the Guard. Militia members are only given a helmet, a protective vest, and a stub pistol; they are expected to buy their own weapons. With the restrictions on the quality of weapons the militia are allowed to own, variety has instead become a staple of Tianes weapons. You can find hundreds of patterns of stub guns for sale on the planet by various vendors and corporations, refined and improved over hundreds of years of war.

The Tianes felinids are a proud people. Though their bodies remain impure, they believe that their souls have been washed clean of original sin by the deeds of their ancestors and the blood of the alien. With no way of safely handling psykers, the felinids have a policy of putting them down wherever they appear. They have some awareness of the Ruinous Powers, believing them to be false gods who use trickery, deceit, and the corrupt to achieve their ends: the corruption and destruction of the Emperor's works. The felinids hate xenos, believing that only with their deaths can mankind truly prosper.

Hmm will do.

I'm thinking about a possible psyker companion that can fly and camoflauge but also has a telepathic ability that can report the surrounding areas to their psyker partner. Making them and the psyker excellent scouts in Avernus as well as providing yet another option in Avernus arsenal against other threats outside the planet.

Okay then, I feel like we have a good plan for the Valinor Ambush choice.

Now focusing on the Garkill issue, right now don't have a draft plan, still need to ask some more questions @Durin

1: Thoughts on how to make Garkill more likely to attack Avernus instead of somewhere else in the Trust:

1a: How about a small raid on Garkill's fleet purportedly by the "Avernite Navy" and led by Rotbart demanding to know where Garkill is, and challenging him to comeback to Avernus because we have been "waiting" for him? Heh... maybe mention we have new attractions for him (send him pictures of the Duat Wildlife King). (It worked in the initial Garkill attack to make him ignore Cumae.) Targets of opportunity of course, but main purpose is to focus Garkill on Avernus not to do significant damage to his fleet.

1b: Anyone else have any ideas?

2: Effectiveness of Life Eater Fungus torpedoes on the Ork fleet in comparison to more conventional weaponry?

2a: If Life Eater Fungus is an effective weapon, where is it most effective and/or useful to target: Roks, Battlecruisers, Small Hulks, or the Huge Hulk? Open to some details and expounding on this subject.

3: Can the Quartoks give us any information about the Death's Harbringer that could identify vulnerabilities to either ship borne weapons or a boarding party?

4: Assuming that if our goal is to preserve our own fleet (for a counter attack), and trying to get Garkill on the ground, thoughts on distribution of forces:

4a: Imperial Fleet and non-Avernite fleets warp in after Garkill's forces have already made planet fall? How long afterwards?

4b: Avernite Fleet holes up around Cumae until Imperial fleet arrives?

4c: Possibility of a retreating battle with the fleet during Garkill's approach, avoiding close combat and attempting to pick off Ork forces at a distance? Would other fleets (Vanaheim and Imperial) be better at this? Perhaps fight this battle, and then warp out to join other forces in a later return for relief?

4d: I assume the primary target here would be the Roks? (To reduce the threat to our cities).

4e: Static defense stations, should they remain around Avernus despite their likely destruction, or move them to Cumae?

4f: Can we deploy a (small) minefield around Avernus above the populated areas? Would this be much help at all against the coming threat?

4g: One of the major threats once the Orks landed were their heavy units (like the Gargants). Aesir Knights would be very helpful in countering this threat. Assuming we decide to pursue this "tempt Garkill to land" strategy, would Asgard be willing to station Knights on Avernus in perpetration for an attack?

4h: Can we build more Deathstrikes in time to be useful?

4i: What would be the best team that could be assembled to try and assassinate Garkill if an opportunity arrives? Will the other Trust members commit those resources to Avernus?

4j: Avernite ability to support a counter attack on the Ork worlds will be reduced due to the need to rebuild armies/defenses, is there any concern about this? Assume we target the most weakly defended of the Ork worlds.

5: We would want the counter attack to begin very soon after the Orks are repulsed from Avernus, how fast does the Imperial Fleet and Imperial Guard feel they can launch this counter attack?

Anybody think of any other questions to ask?

Sorry for being so scattered all over the place with the questions, just trying to get a handle on this.
1a. may work but may be too obvious a trap (he is smart for an Ork)
1b. no
2. more damage, less armour penetration
2a. best against Hulks
3. no
4a. at least one day, maybe two
4b. and harasses Orks whenever an opportunity arrives, some of the non-Avernite Fleets can arrive early and join this
4c. possible though not without losses, Vaaheim would be best at this
4d. yes
4e. move to Cumea
4f. yes and it would help a bit
4g. yes
4h. no
4i. Surt, Xavier, Ridcully, Pualson, Jane and you along with the Governors Own and Phase-Tigers
4k. not much
5. it depends on how much damage is sustained over Averus, best case a few weeks, worse case a year (ell worse case never but that is very unlikely)

1. good idea
2. yes, it makes them more liekly to be used as well

4j.

Cool, if anyone has ideas for planet omakes feel free to point them out. Maybe someone here can write one up if they have the time. I certainly have some right now.

Where are the planet creatiom rules?

(Waiting on Telepathica update to update the psykernumber sheet - Looks like it's a quad. graph, after all.)

Hygeia
An idea:

Hive World +4
Abundant Growth +3
Permanent Warp Storm -5
Isolated +0
Industrial +1

Artisans

Formerly settled as an Agri-World, Hygeia was soon forced to develop it's own industry due to Warp Storms making trade difficult and complicated. As time progressed, Hygeia soon developed into a Civilized world, one with an enormou- Plant grew not only on land and sea, but underground, sustained by geothermic activity. Similarly, population centres developed around such, careful not to cripple their own food production. This process eventually turned Hygeia into a Hive World over several hundred years.

For a Hive World, Hygeia remains one of the most peaceable and beautiful (On occasion called the Hive Garden, in part due to it's environmental policies managing to keep the world from being essentially a giant city) ones in the galaxy, helped greatly by it's isolation from the rest of the galaxy at large, and social policies carefully designed to minimize interpopulation conflict. The onset of the Abomination did not harm the world overly much when it occured, the population of the world having historically being more suspectible to Slaneesh and Tzeentech anyhow.

Not sure how much population a Hive World with Abundant Growth can support without rationing.

Can a Hive World with Abundant Growth (Fertile 3) support it's population without rationing?

How much people could it support? (Without trade.)

[x] Proposal: Imperial Trust Strategic Security Guidelines

1. Those guidelines should be taken into account when developing both strategic and tactical decisions made by Imperial Trust as a whole and by individual Trust members.

2. Main goal is long-term survival of Imperial Trust; barring that - long-term survival of Imperial Truth.

3. Derivative goals are:

4. Security
4.1. Strengthen void and ground defense of Trust polities and Imperial Trust as a whole.
4.2. Reinforce internal security of Trust polities. Trust members must be resistant to unrest, insurgency, civil wars and coups.
4.5. Combat the persistent threat of chaos cults.
4.6. Discourage external forces from attacks on Trust. Mostly by neutralizing close opposition and reducing perceived gains-to-risk ratio of attacking Trust for more distant and powerful polities.
4.7. Establish faith-keeping secret societies. Even in case of Imperial Trust falling under invasion we still can keep Imperial Faith, if all necessary preparation are made.

5.Prosperity
5.1. Put our economy to work. Don't let the factories stall. Every pair of hands capable of providing assets and advantages for Imperial Trust but not doing it is a security risk, if, maybe, a minor one.
5.2. Advance our resource security. While trade helps advance the development of Trust a great deal, reliance of certain polities on trade is a security concern. Every Imperial Trust member must build good reserves of deficit goods and materials and develop emergency plans to counter the trade disruption.
5.3. Lead in technology. High technology level of Imperial Trust is one of the greatest edges we have against our enemies. We most not let this change.

6. Interspace Order
6.1. Ensure cooperation or neutrality with non-corrupted human splinter states.
6.2. Make our faith known and understood by neutral and cooperative polities.
6.3. Neutralize large-scale ork menace in the neighboring sectors.
6.4. Neutralize large-scale chaos menace in the neighboring sectors.

Err... a lot of these are common sense things already being done, and they don't really address the issues being discussed (that being handling the upcoming attacks of Valinor and Garkill).
