Dark Age Datacore Contents Part One: Weaponry and Wargear

According to Archmagos Explorator Tranth the datacore found on the Sword of Surtur is fully intact and easily readable. He tells you that the datacore contains the complete designs for most of the warships and almost all of the archoetech found within them. The main exceptions to this are the Vortex weaponry and some of the more advanced Grav Weaponry.
What kind of rolls resulted in this?

Graviton Weaponry- Graviton Weaponry is very advanced and highly effective against heavy infantry and vehicles. It requires advanced and exotic material to build grav weapons.
Grav-Pistol- Near identical to the Imperial Grav-Pistol
Grav-Gun- Near identical to the Imperial Grav-Gun
Grav-Cannon- Near identical to the Imperial Grav-Cannon (Heavy Weapon)
Heavy Grav-Cannon- A larger Grav-Cannon that is still smaller then a Grav-Destroyer. (Very Heavy Weapon)
Grav-Destroyer-A larger version of the Grav-Cannon designed to be a tanks main gun, can be wielded by Knight-Titans. Larger and more powerful then the Imperial weapon of the same name. (Ordnance Weapon)
Grav-Hammer- A Thunder Hammer that has a graviton device incorporated that massively increases the weight, and therefore momentum and energy, of the hammer when it hits. This weapon can hit the ground hard enough to hurt nearby enemies with the shockwave. .
Heavy Grav-Hammer- A far larger version of the Grav-Hammer designed for use by Knight-titans, this is a devastating weapon against both powerful foes and hordes.
Grav-Amp- Near identical as the Imperial Grav-Amp
Heav-Grav Amp- A version of the Grav-Amp designed for use with heavy Grav-Cannons.
Just pointing this out but Graviton weapons and Grav weapons are two different things. Graviton weapons from Forge World operate completely differently than the grav-weapons shown in the new Space Marine Codex. The reason for this was a mystery up until Horus Heresy III - Extermination came out and actually had a Graviton weapon that behaved like a Grav weapon: the Graviton Imploder. The explanation being that all 40k Grav weapons started out as Graviton weapons, but Graviton weapons were not actually intended to be used as weapons at all (more likely they were to be used like Star Trek tractor beams) nevertheless they were used as weapons until some guy on the Forgeworld of Tigrus figured out how to make a cheaper replacement which concentrated the energy onto single targets rather than over wider areas. The tech-priests called this a blasphemy owing to the fact that it was not how the technology was originally intended but considering they are generally more useful on the battlefield they became more common than the original design.

Actual DAoT Grav weapons, as in purpose designed gravity based weapons, should have very different designs then modern Imperial versions since all modern Imperial Grav weapons are modified DAoT civilian tech made to work as cheaper and more effective weapons then the tools they started out as.

I vaguely recall that they're like Ogryn sized humans or Ogryns with human intelligence.
They're ogryns that call themselves jotun.

Specifically they are the Jotunheim variant of Ogryns, and unlike regular Ogryns they have human level intelligence. (I'd also venture to guess they're not as ugly/malformed and look more human that most Ogryns do)

Accelerator Autocannon
Accelerator Autocannon
When the datacores of The Sword of Surtur were analysed, the initial lack of Autocannon sized variant of the was considered odd given the existence of heavier versions. It would be discovered as being misfiled with redundant copies of the lesser heavy weapons, archived along with mount designs/specifications for the Heavy and Gatling Impaler. Once found, analysis of the weapon found it to be of marvelous utility, a bit with some drawbacks. The vehicle mounted weapon hit harder, had better penetration, and was particularly effective against vehicles. It's only real drawback was that the recoil and required mounting weight was too great for use by anything smaller than Destroyer APA. Fortunately, notes for a less powerful Man-Portable version were found in the personal quarters of the ship's Chief Armorer, enabling infantry to use this mighty weapon.

The AAC fills an important tactical niche. In addition to being a wonderful light anti-vehicle weapon, it's sees ever more use as an anti-heavy infantry weapon. During the Men of Iron rebellion, it was one of the leading killers of the larger infantry drones, blasting their frame apart and preventing nano-repair systems from being effective. In today's galaxy, many of the most physically capable warrior of the galaxy, such as Astartes and Orks, have also have pronounced regenerative abilities in addition to their raw durability. The AAC is powerful enough to render this regenerative factor meaningless in all but the most extreme cases.

Found along with the primary design, a Long Barrel version meant for AA work was also found. The greatly increased range came at the cost of a significant reduction in anti-armor capabilities, but this is irrelevant against both its chosen prey and ground based infantry. The only flyers that would require such capabilities are those that are worth using a significantly more powerful/expensive weapon on, such as a Neutron Annihilator.

The Man Portable AAC necessitated more serious trade offs. Closely following Chief Armorer Völundr, the adepts of the Collegia Reconstructus found that it was simply impossible to retain both the impressive rate of fire and the armor sundering capability. Ultimately, both were sacrificed in order to make it practical for use by infantry. While a lesser weapon, the MP-AAC is still clearly superior to the previous cased chemically propelled model of the old Imperium in all ways other than initial cost. Full deployment is only limited by the scale of the task, having hundreds of millions of examples to replace.

Long Barrel Accelerator Autocannon: Range 72", S8, AP3, Heavy 3

Notes
Chief Armorer Völundr can be used as an excused for finding a half finished infantry equipment project. The man had countless ideas, many of them actually practical, but only so many hours in a day to do work on them. Chief Engineer Swan of the In Dying Light is of similar use for vehicles and small void craft. Drawing a blank for a full warp-capable shipwright tough.

Considering they were likely designed by the same genesmiths that made the Navigators, I'd be willing to put money on that.

Jaghatai Khan Heavy Hover Tank
I shall now post my completed Primarch vehicles. For fluff, I'm basing this on the Ork Overlord Quest on SB. Vulkan is currently running Callamus. Lion El'Jonson is awake and leading a crusade effort here in Pacificus, started by the Phalanx. The Phalanx was ordered out of Sol with everything irreplaceable that they could shoe-horn in, and linked up with the Rock at some point. When they arrive in the Nine Worlds is something I'm going to leave open. The other surviving loyalists are rebuilding Ultramar.

That said, lets start with the most reasonable vehicle, the Jaghatai Khan. The reason that it doesn't have a full Neutron load-out is power generation. It's not big enough to mount an effective plasma reactor, and anything else would be far too expensive, even for Astartes.

Jaghatai Khan Heavy Hover Tank
The Jaghatai Khan represents a turning point in the Adeptus Mechanicus. While obviously derived from the Diamondback, it was the first grav-vehicle designed without the clear directions or guidance of the Ancients. First deployed by the forces of the Dark Angels legion, it spread throughout the remnant Astartes chapters and fiefdoms like wildfire. Within five centuries it had all but completely replaced the Predator and Sicaran among the major uncorrupted Imperial Remnants, with many of the wealthiest Astartes forces replacing most of their Land Speeders as well. For obvious reasons, the White Scars field the highest proportional numbers, with their Primarch being the designs' most enthusiastic supporter.

On a fundamental level, the Khan in an improved Diamondback. The Diamondback developers had made some notes about a theoretical follow on design, but had not gone beyond the initial proposal before the end came. Archmagos Veneratus Tranth took this proposal as a personal challenge, enlisting some of the finest technical minds of the Nine Worlds. The Khan includes the majority of items that had been put on the "wish-list", having increased armaments, inherent anti-infantry capability, marginally thicker armor, an integrated Flare Shield, an increased operation altitude, and being even faster. As any Tech-Priest would readily tell you, the resulting design is not cheap, but the result speak for themselves.

The hull has been enlarged but not fundamentally changed in terms of shape, already being optimum for speed and protection. The turret assembly has been disproportionately widened, now hosting sets of both Accelerator Autocannons and Neutron Beams. The size of the linked ammunition bay has also been increased, granting the AACs 33% more rounds. A small turret has been installed on the underside of the forward bow, holding a Gatling Impaler for anti-infantry duties. The reactor has seen a significant increase in efficiency, more than compensating for both the increased size of the vehicle and the increased power draw from the Neutron Beams. The Flare Shield necessitates the inclusion of a capacitor system, which is fortunately only strained when actually hit by enemy fire.

The name came after the results of the first successful set of prototypes were analysed. Lion El'Jonson remarked that the vehicle was "Everything Jaghatai Khan could possibly want out of a vehicle", with the name sticking. In addition to the normal pattern, several even higher-quality models were crafted for the sole use of Primarchii. With armor almost equal to that of a Land Raider, a side deflection grid, and a fixed forward ion shield, these Primus pattern models were worthy mounts for Emperor's sons. One minor "defect" of the Primus pattern is the partial exposure of the occupant to the elements. None of the surviving Primarchii are bothered by this, with Jaghatai Khan refusing to have it any other way.

Sanguinius Gunship
Here's the Thunderhawk replacement.
-I will add mocking introduction later, watch this space-

Sanguinius Gunship
While the Thunderhawk is legendary for it's reliability and durability, it has always had more than it's fair share of problems. Remus Ventanus, Hero of Calth, predicted that it would be a stopgap design that would soon be replaced. That it would last more than ten millennia of service can only be considered a brutal irony. Three centuries after the death of the Emperor and the beginning of the Second Age of Strife, elements of the Adeptus Mechanicus from the Hellworld of Avernus took up the challenge of creating a replacement. With access to the records stored within The Rock and The Phalanx, they were able to redesign the Thunderhawk into what it should have been in the first place. The resulting craft would be named the Sanguinius, in honor of the fallen Primarch of the Blood Angel. It's performance characteristics and capabilities could only be described as striking.

The biggest problems the Thunderhawk had all revolved around the deck configuration, mostly due to the split of the forward and upper holds. The forward hold was too small to hold a Rhino, and the upper hold was too cramped to easily carry Jump Squads or Terminators. Disembarkation was only possible from the forward hold, with the side exits being tedious and impractical to use. The rear ramp of the forward hold was too small and awkward to actually use, and had been eliminated entirely in later models. Troop comfort was always considered rather poor. Finally, the rear engineering sections took up a disproportionate amount of space while rarely seeing any access while in flight.

The Avernus developers determined that the deck problems ultimately came from the decision to have the flight deck be similar to that of the Warhawk pattern Stormbird. While this did simplfy training, the Thunderhawk's smaller size made it's drawbacks much more pronounced. For the Sanguinius, the problem was solved by eliminating it entirely, the the crew now stationed in a "Virtual Cockpit" behind the troop bay. With this solved, the forward and upper holds were merged into one, removing the distinctive bulge of the forward hull. The main fuselage was widened by 2 meters, enabling the transportation of Rhinos. A similar increase in height enabled it to carry Razorbacks and Contemptor Dreadnoughts. The landing gear was replaced by a much more space efficient design, no longer having to deal with the forward bulge.

The rear engineering spaces were slightly more complicated to fix. The original intent behind them was to provide the crew with the capacity to make repairs and perform maintenance rituals in hostile environments. This proved to be almost completely redundant in actual service. Additionally, the presence of the dorsal mount added what was essentially an additional deck to the craft, limiting the height of the upper hold. These spaces were compacted, with in fight maintenance capability now being performed by a specially designed remote controlled servitor. The sensor and cogitator array was moved to be slightly behind the control compartment, with the dorsal mount's affiliated support components being place between that and the main engine. The M33 'Cygnus' Machine spirit was retained.

The engines were replaced with more compact and higher performance plasma ramjets, whose design had been found in the datamesh of the In Dying Light. These engines proved to be just as durable as their predecessors and provided a substantially smoother flight profile. The dorsal mount was replaced by a fixed Neutron Annihilator, being roughly equal is size. The wing mounted lascannons were removed, and the Heavy Bolter sponsons were replaced with ball turrets strait from the Helheim pattern Fire Raptor.

By far the biggest technical challenge was addressing the wings. The comically thick and stumpy wings were responsible for the majority of the Thunderhawk's handling problems. Despite their best efforts, the development team found no coherent explanation for their existence or configuration. It was eventually decided to remove them entirely, their removal compensated for by lining the fuselage with gravity-plates from the Diamondback hover tank. The side engines would then be enclosed in an armored sheath, with a pair of missile bay mounted above to replace the lost hardpoints. The rear turrets would mounted similarly to the forward ones, placed where the engine housing and missile bays met.

Armor thickness along the now smoother hull was increased by another 5mm, further increasing durability. Protection was further increased by the included on both a Flare Shield and a Ramjet Deflection grid. Efforts to mount a full void shield came at the cost of an unacceptable reduction of transportation capacity, and were ultimately abandoned. As a final defensive measure, Hexagramic wards were included in the ship's structure, protecting it and it's occupants from daemons and sorcery.

The Sanguinius was now faster, better protected, and more heavily armed. Transportation capacity been had increased to 40 Armored Marines or equivalents, and could fit two Rhino or Razorbacks. Within 40 years they had replaced the Thunderhawks of the reformed Legiones Astartes, and would soon surpass the reputation of it's predecessor. The Sanguinius would serve as the quintessential Astartes transport throughout the remainder of the Second Age of Strike. But perhaps the single greatest compliment it would ever receive would be given by Lion El'Jonson at it's unveiling. He stated, quite simply, that "his departed brother would have been proud."

Eh, I'm not much of a fan of the idea that Vulkan's running Callamus. Mainly because Callamus doesn't need to be ran by a post-human demi-god to be successful. I'm much more of a fan Legio Fulminata version where Callamus is the center of a new, improved Mechanicus successor state. Having a Primarch run it feels much like how it would if a Primarch showed up and started running the Imperial Trust, it just cheapens the experience.

Roboute Guilliman pattern Command Carrier Land-Ship
And here is the first of the bat-shit designs. Similarly sized vehicles are canon in setting, but the Imperium didn't have any standard patterns. As I was half finished with it, I realized that this was quite similar to the Kapisi of Home World Shipbreakers. I'm being generous with the N-Squar law.

Roboute Guilliman pattern Command Carrier Land-Ship
The Leviathan was the Imperium's predominant theater command platform. A mobile structure to large as to count as a small facility in and of itself, it could coordinate entire corps. Unfortunately, the Nine World's supply was cut off with the fall of the Imperium. One of the low-medium priority projects of the local Adeptus Mechanicus was to develop a replacement designs. Proper development started two centuries after the death of the Emperor. A moderately sized team was formed from the staff of the Collegia Reconstructus and the Collegia Titanicus and given a generous amount of cogitator time. They were told to make something adequate.

They went ludicrously overboard.

At its heart, the Roboute Guiliman is a series of dramatically enlarged Magni Transporters lashed together. It's undercarriage is configured near identically, providing a tremendous speed for an object it's size. The armor is proportionately thinner, but still several times better than the original Leviathan. The powerplant was copied from the primary reactor of a Helheim pattern Raider Destroyer, providing just enough energy to power the entirety of the Guiliman's systems. By far the most energy intensive of which is the wide area void shield generator, providing an umbrella of protection nearly 20 kilometer in diameter, capable of withstanding opportunistic bombardment from Light Cruisers.

The primary purpose of the Guiliman is to serve as a mobile command center for multiple army corps, a duty in which it accells. It's flag bridge is capable of processing and distributing orders and information more than four times faster and cleaner that the Leviathan, and is easily capable of managing a 20 million man front all by itself. And additional bridge coordinates the logistical distribution network of its assigned forces. The rear third of the hull is given over to a sophisticated medical center, capable of treating the battlefield wounds of over 4000 individuals at once. The upper levels serve as an aircraft deck, capable of fielding over 140 fighter jets at a time.

Considering that it is nearly the size of a Void Destroyer, the Roboute Guiliman is lightly armed. Its primary armament consists 'only' of a single Accelerator Macro-Cannon, capable of flinging 300 ton shells across more than half a (small) continent. It's defensive armaments begin with 6 Dual Neutron Obliterators, the same model used as the main weapon of the Fellsword super-heavy titan hunter. Backing those up are no less than 40 Long Barrel Heavy Gatling Impalers, capable of tearing apart a Land Raider in seconds. Air defense is covered by an array of no less than 30 Hydra turrets and 16 Hyperion missile launchers. Anti-infantry/infiltrator is covered by an extensive array of quad Heavy Impaler turrets.

As one can easily imagine, deploying a Guiliman onto the surface of a world is a non-trivial endeavor, made even harder when the airspace is contested. The solution was to created a reusable repulsorlift drop cradle fitted with an expendable heat shield. Recovery requires the use of a full spaceport facility. Considering the expense and importance of the vehicle, a specialized warp capable transport has been designed to carry it from system to system.

The cost of a single Guiliman is comparable to that of a Warp capable Frigate, with substantially greater upkeep cost. Only 4 of the Imperial Trust's member have any real use for its capabilities. Alfheim and Niflheim have use for it's power projection capabilities, having great swaths of open territory with little to no fortifications. Midgard regularly field armies that warrant its command capabilities. Avernus itself has no less than 12 permanently stationed in the regions of Aridia and Elysium, securing vast swaths of territory and serving as the cornerstones of exploration and expansion efforts. Roboute Guiliman himself considered the vessel a logical, if overly grandiose, creation and regarded it as a compliment.

Vulkan pattern Foundry Land-Ship
And here's the smaller recovery ship. It has a lot more practical uses.

Vulkan pattern Foundry Land-Ship

Developed immediately after the Roboute Guilliman class, the Vulkan class Foundry Land-Ship is a macro-scale repair vehicle. Its original design goal was to serve as a recovery vehicle for other Land-Ships, slowly moving crippled or disabled vessels out of active combat zones. Once that ability had been developed, the design team focused on adding additional logistical functionality. The ability to effect field repairs was considered desirable, and the Guilliman did not have an inherent technical support capability. Design work was done by the same team.

Once again, they went overboard

The Vulkan is 100m shorter than the Guilliman. The flight deck has been removed, the vessel now featuring an array of smokestacks, heat vents, and cranes that would not seem out of place on a Greater Foundry. The forward hull features a truly gargantuan set of grappling hooks and arms, capable of tilting a Guilliman up to a 20 degree angle. This is done to gain access to the interior tracks, enabling field repairs of grievously damaged motive systems. Fortunately for the Guilliman this possibility had been considered during it's design, with it's outer bougies able to take the abuse with some help from repulsor arrays. Once basic mobility has been restored, a Vulkan can push a it's charge to a greater facility, where much more in depth repair efforts can be done.

But serving as a macro-scale tow truck is just the beginning of the Vulkan's utility. The interior has been almost completely given over to a truly massive industrial repair facility. It's sophisticated facilities can repair and refurbish everything from a Lasgun to a Warlord Titan, with its cranes capable of lifting the latter into it's volumus hold. Capable of salvaging and reconstructing an entire Armored regiment in a single go, it's logistical support capability is greater than many theater depots. Combined with a fleet of Magni Transports, a single Vulkan can keep an entire field army on the front line indefinitely.

While the armoring pattern remains mostly the same as the Guilliman, the armaments have been substantially reduced. The Accelerator Macro-Cannon has been removed, along with the broadside Neutron Obliterators. 10 of the HGI sponsons have also been deleted from the design. The anti-air emplacements and Heavy Impaler turrets remain. Finally, the void shield generator is substantially less capable, only able to cover 3 kilometers. The deployment methods remain the same.

The Vulkan has seen substantially wider deployment than the Guilliman, despite being meant to support the latter. It's most commonly roll is as a core asset of colonial starports, providing maintenance support, air traffic control, administration housing, and landing barge recovery. It's void shield protects it and it's closest neighbors from the worst of landing accidents. As a planet develops or goes bust, the Vulkan is relocated to a new colony, providing the same critical services. In this function, the Vulkan serves as one of the vanguards of civilisation. Vulkan himself was quite proud once he had heard of it.

Rogal Dorn pattern Macro-Engineering/Construction Land-Ship
And here is the "industrial landscape that grew tread" version. On a long term macro scale, it is by far the most important/useful.

Rogal Dorn pattern Macro-Engineering/Construction Land-Ship
Named after the defensive siege specialist of the Primarchii, the Rogal Dorn is a self contained infrastructure development platform. Capable of virtually all construction tasks, the Dorn only needs to be fed raw materials and specialist components to create an entire city from scratch. It's interior is a maze of ferrocrete plants, structural girder assemblers, pipe extrudes, and countless other forms of industrial machinery. The interior bays host a literal fleet of attendant construction vehicles of every possible make, with almost a third of the top deck devoted to heavy lift VTOLs. For military applications, its ability to create and repair fortifications is just as significant.

The Dorn is by far the largest of the Avernus Land-Ships. Bigger than many Void Escorts, it's operational weight come in at just over 800 thousand tons. When moving, it is assisted by an array of repulsorlift generators similar to those of the Nomad Cities of Muspelheim, and even then can only manage 10 kph. In practice, it usually only moves 1 kilometer per day, slowly progressing to the next stage of it's construction program as the current one is accomplished. When traveling to a new city, it's movement is enough to shake the earth or miles, announcing its presence well before ti come into view.

Considering its strategic value, it is reasonably well protected. It retains the Void Shield of the Vulkan, and it's armor remains thicker than a 'mere' Leviathan. It's armament consists of 20 sponson mounted Long Barrel Heavy Gatling Impalers, capable of seeing off an entire armored regiment in minutes, along with an extensive array of Heavy Impaler turrets for use against infiltrators. The top side AA compliment remains, although more spread out due to it's increased size. But it's greatest protection is the fortifications and garrison of the city it's building. A Rogal Dorn is never alone.

The arrival of a colony's first Rogal Dorn is a cause for celebration. It means that the powers that be think that the planet is worthy of future development, and serious resources will be directed towards that goal. Where once there was wilderness, there shall soon be ferrocrete skyline. If the Vulkan kindles the light of civilization, it is the Dorn that turns it into a bonfire, taming the lands for the use of human society. Roboute Guiliman, as the surviving loyalist Primarch that knew Rogal Dorn the best, thought that Dorn would have been deeply touched.

Huh, no melta bombs... weird.

I'd guess that the bombs just wouldn't be improved much - the main improvements we see in the list for existing weapons are increased range and ammunition capacity, which a bomb doesn't really need. The engineering improvements needed for a better bomb would be rather different.

@OmegaS - You could put those in spoilers in a single post rather than making multiple posts, you know.

Ferrus Manus pattern Brigade Command Land-Ship
And here's the actual Leviathan replacement. The team was given a size specification and told to shoe-horn all they could manage.

Ferrus Manus pattern Brigade Command Land-Ship
While the Roboute Guilliman was a magnificent command vehicle, it was just too big for use in meer multi-regiment battles. An actual Leviathan replacement was needed. The team was told to go back to the drawing board and make something "Leviathan sized" that can "do everything command related that the original could do". The obvious hole in this wording meant that a great many additional features would inevitably be added, likely at the cost of troop capacity. They were not mistaken.

The Ferrus Manus looks like a Leviathan on it's side. While the increased width does somewhat limit what terrain features in can travel through, it's decreased profile does much to protect it from direct fire macro-weapons. The bottom of the land-ship is simply a pair of Magni pattern transports side by side. The powerplant is a tertiary reactor of the -- class Destroyer, providing sufficient power for all of it's systems. It's void shield can only protect an area 1 kilometer in diameter, but this is enough for most small scale field bases. The armor is half again as thick as a Baneblade.

The weapons of the Ferrus Manus are still somewhat light for it's size, but are more than a match for anything less potent than a Knight-Titan. The frontal weapon is a scaled down version of the Guilliman's, able to put a 25 ton shell anywhere within 160 kilometers. The secondary armaments consist of 6 Long Barrel Heavy Gatling Impalers, one at each corner and two on the middle broadsides. The top deck hosts 8 Hydra turrets and 4 Hyperion missile launchers. A total of 140 Heavy Impalers provide very-close range infantry suppression capability.

In terms of command and logistical support capability, the Manus outstrips the Leviathan by a very comfortable margin. In addition to improved cogitators and communications, the Manus offers many depot level services. These include several full surgical suites, showers, a laundromat, a regimental scale kitchen, administration offices, a stockade, and a small court room. The transportation capacity has been gutted, but the prevalence of Mechanized units in the Nine Worlds and the existence of the Magni make this essentially irrelevant. VTOL aircraft can land and receive servicing on the top deck, but the Manus does not have long term hosting capability.

The Ferrus Manus is by far the most common of the Avernus Land-Ships. Most Trust army corps have at least one, with numbers slowly increasing. The target number is one to every Guard division, with the exception of Light Infantry units. The Manus is one of the first units assigned to a colonial garrison, serving as the initial command center and as the nucleus of the first permanent base. As a man, Ferrus Manus believed in mobile mechanized warfare more than static sieges. A supply depot that could keep up with the front and look after itself would have greatly appealed to him.
